The quality of meat is going down the drain. Lately I've purchased their marinated rib-eyes and their Santa Maria tri-tip. Lousy cuts of meat. Rib-eye cuts were like chewing bubble gum. I cooked the tri-tip in sous vide for six hours then seared, and still couldn't chew it. Meat tastes old as well. Like it was sitting for days, somebody rubbed some spices on it, rapped up and sold it as fresh. Spent nearly $30 on that tri-tip and threw most of it away. You've lost my business. I definitely don't recommend this place. read more

The staff is so rude. These young men in there do not come to the window when you arrive. You can hear them inside messing around and not paying attention. They are too busy talking about what they did last night and making fun of customers.Also,make sure that when you buy the enchiladas and they say chicken on the label that it is indeed chicken! If you're buying raw meat to take home and cook, this place is pretty good. But if you're buying takeout from the Grill, this place can be pretty bad. I tried it recently and the sides were gross. The lettuce was brown and slimy and service was poor. Seems like little effort is being made for the quality of food they serve. I'll be getting my BBQ meals elsewhere. read more

We got the Korean Short ribs this afternoon and cooked them for dinner tonight. They smelled rancid and tasted horrible. I threw them all out and wasted $21.00. They were 6.99 per lb. I will never be going to the Meat market again. read more

So unfortunate they are not what they used to be! We drove from Sanger to get sandwiches - total waste of gas and time. I placed an order for three sandwiches, one tri tip, one brisket and one rib eye. Full order of beans, half order of pilaf and two orders of onion rings. I get to the car to check to make sure all was there and we were missing a sandwich. I took the bag back up to the window and the guy opened up window asked if there was a problem and I said yes we are missing a sandwich. He took bag, set it on counter went over and started making a sandwich- I asked him what he was making? How do you know what we are missing without looking in bag? Seriously???? So they knew they shorted us a sandwich before we even left and they knew we drove in from Sanger. So rude and inconsiderate. So we get home and get out the sandwiches- tri tip was literally bread and meat - no sauces no juices nothing - rib eye was meat (fatty) on white sandwich bread, no sauce or juice - the brisket was good because it was juicy on sandwich bread with some bbq sauce. The pilaf was dry like bottom of the pan and the beans literally were from a can and tasted very sour .... so sad - waste of $56 bucks, gas and time read more

We moved here last August and tried the Meat Market BBQ sandwiches outside that my father raved about. I can recall them being pretty good. Fast forward to May of this year. My husband and I were looking for something to grab for lunch rather than a quick bite at In N Out, so we cruised by the Meat Market to get 2 BBQ sandwiches. It was rather quiet for a Sunday and there was no meat on the grill outside which I found odd. None the less I ordered a tri-tip for my husband and a BBQ beef for myself. I thought the bag smelled like beef jerkey...odd. My husband picked around his sandwich and the quality of the meat was inedible, he normally will eat anything as he isn't picky. My sandwich was dry and it literally hurt my teeth to bite through some of the meat(hence the beef jerky smell). My husband swore never to go back to the outdoor grill. Yesterday I went to the Meat Market to get filet mignons for fathers day and happened to notice the outdoor grill area bustling with people and tons of people at the tables. I emailed my husband and said "one more try" and he actually agreed. He asked for the brisket and I tried a bierock. When he unwrapped his sandwich we noticed that the chucks of brisket were 1' x 1 1/2" chunks...odd. We both both picked up a hunk of the brisket and neither of us could seriously pull meat away from either piece. The sandwich met the trash can immediately. The brisket clearly wasn't smoked anywhere near the hours needed to produce a tender and juicy cut of meat. No more tries here...we are done Another unfortunate thing here is the customer service at the windows outside is horrible for the most part. When I walked up to the window a blonde girl with a look of disgust on her face said "it will be a minute" as the window closed. Not a smile, not a hi...like she truly hated her job. When the window did open the gentleman with the hat was very friendly. Whew!! At the pick up window I witnessed a customer simply asking for BBQ sauce and the guy with braces rudely says "in a minute" so the gentleman waited by the window. The same worker opened the window and said "I said in a minute" loud and I was taken aback guess he was standing too close to the window. Not a good way to win customers when the quality of your food has taken a major slide. Get it together. read more

Well it"s 2013 and after reading some of these reviews from 2011, the Clovis store has not changed. I could not agree more about the poor service. Management must not care otherwise they would have attempted to improve the lack of service. I usually shop at the Meat Market once a month for a few steaks or tri tip. I could not chew the marinated New Yorks. I had to chop them up very fine the next day and made tacos. The last tri tip was not edible. It had so much gristle, I had to throw it out. The lack of counter service is a significant problem. There was no one behind the counter to assist me. I saw the cashier walk to the back and try to find someone. I walked out. Today I waited for 5 minutes while the young gal behind the counter was talking to someone. Meanwhile 3 more people got in line behind me. I was so frustrated as they were just chatting. The ignorance of these employees must be a reflection of the management. Bad service. bad management. read more

I came to this particular location a second time. I look around and find that there is only one person helping customers (no other store staff in sight at all anywhere). There were a lot of customers there at that time. I waiting for five minutes, and then just gave up and walked out of the store. They obviously do not feel very highly of their customers to only have one person there manning the meats and cheeses. At least at the other location on Alluvial, there are a few people always back there to help. read more

I am a regular at the MM and honestly the meat is great and at a fair price. The chicken, tri tip, sausage and even deli meats are very good. I would have given a 5 star. However, as others have stated, the service is horrible. For the amount of times I am in there, they should know my name or at least acknowledge I am a regular customer. Last time I was in there a customer went off on the staff because they were waiting so long, the staff's response was a sarcastic "I was on the phone, what do you want"? i believe the "manager" is the owners daughter, which is probably the problem. There is no accountability. The only time I see the owner is when she's coming out of the office. The Butcher staff has no idea what is going on, knows nothing about the meat or preparing it or even what is available. I was told they would have Thanksgiving sausage thoughout the holidays just to be told they didn't have any the day before Thanksgiving. After i complained quite a bit. They actually were able to find some in the back. T understand there might be new people, but take the time to train them in the product and in customer service. Learn from Starbucks what customer service looks like. They might be reading some of these comments, because they are now at least saying "hello" when you walk in the door. Hopefully it will extend to the counter staff and management. read more

Bought 1 lb of Hoffmans smoky cheddar here. They cut it to thin to use. Called them and they said to return it. Tried to return it and the manager pretty much said NO. Does this lady not understand that by not exchanging 10 dollars worth of cheese she is losing me as a customer? And that I am going to tell everyone I know not to shop there. Well, she saved a few bucks today and lost a lot more in the future. I wonder if her boss would approve of her decision making? I shopped for meat there even though their prices are higher and their meat is average because they are the "local" market. But they are not the only market selling meat.... read more

Got the Thursday special today and it was horrible! Rice pilaf and rotissiere chicken were super dry and the chili beans were so bland. Also a little irritated that I paid $1.50 extra for the chicken to be cut up and all they did was cut the fryer in half. The location on alluvial cuts it up into pieces. I have been to the place dozens of times. The last two were so bad, I'll never be back. I knew I was in trouble from the sign on the take out window. It stated they would only give food refunds with receipt and would weigh the food and give a refund on what was not eaten. If I had not taken the Carolina Pork Sandwich back to work I would have got 100% of my money back. The "freshly" BBQ pork was refrigerator cold. You shouldn't have to nuke a $7 pulled pork sandwich bought at a "Meat Market". Their "Famous" Tri-Tip sandwhich was luke warm, over cooked, dry with soggy bread the trip before. Had the tri tip and was pretty good. Chicken breast was sooooooooo dry I couldn't eat it. Rice pilaf was good.

Good selection of meats and in the store, chicken jalapeño sausage is soooo good. When we have a pot luck or BBQ and we don't want to grill a tri tip we go and get a whole cooked tri tip thin sliced w/ peppers an onions. Good for a quick sandwich outside. Must admit I have noticed the lack of customer service sometimes but that is mostly at the outside window and not all the time. read more

Driving by I seen the plume of smoke coming from the pit and then smelled the sweet aroma of BBQ. Boy was I glad I decided to take a drive down Sheppard ave! I had never been here before so before going inside I decided to read their reviews and found that their ratings were not that great, mainly customer service complaints. However, I gave them a try anyways and found one of my new favorite spots to grab a GREAT tri tip sandwich. The customer service I found was very polite after being polite to them first so maybe some of the other reviews need to extending a little friendliness on their part. If there was a zero I'd give it to Fresno Meat Market! Ordered Turducken 3 weeks ago and put name on list to pick up on Sunday, 23rd since we do Chistmas on 24th. Called on morning of 23rd to see how late they were open and was told hours were 9-3...also told her we were coming from Sanger to pick up our Turducken. Husband got there at 2:30 and they told him they were closing and he couldnt get it and our name wasnt on the list!! So now we have to totally re plan our Christmas dinner for tomorrow!! They are jerks.. unprofessional and we will NEVER do business with them again and neither should you..if they did it to us...they will do it to you!! read more

Have been coming here for a long time and normal have a great experience. Today I bought two beer marinated trip tips about 4 lbs each. BBQ then the n my Weber and was disappointed as they were rather fatty. Also the marinade had no flavor. First time I've had meat from here that was not enjoyable read more

I have been a customer of the Meat Market since it opened in Fresno, Ca. I loved the Meat Market and I followed them when they moved to Alluvial Ave. And then started to patronize the Fowler Meat Market too because it is close to where I work. Today I went to order a BBQ Beef Sandwich for my son, who is in the hospital. I was told by the Server that The Meat Market NO LONGER does BBQ Beef Sandwiches. He was very abrupt. I pointed out that the Sandwich is ON the Menu and that NO WHERE is there a sign stating they no longer sell BBQ Beef Sandwiches. He stated that the Management no longer wants BBQ Beef Sandwiches sold. The Server's attitude was very uncaring and just looked at me like I was just a waste of his time. I called the Pinedale Grill at the Meat Market and was told that they DO still sell the BBQ Beef Sandwiches there and did NOT understand why Clovis Grill did not and that they would look into it. My Office has always bought 2 large pans of Tr-Tips and/or BBQ Chicken for our monthly office lunches. After what has happened, we will no longer buy from the Clovis Grill at the Meat Market. When I informed our staff members of what had just happened to me, some staff members spoke up about the bad customer service they had received there and how they were made to wait on orders that were phoned in ahead of time. The Grill at the Meat Market in Clovis seems to have either a Bad Management Situation or really LAZY employees...or they have 'family/friends' working there.....whatever the case might be The Grill at the Meat Market, in Clovis, just lost a Customer and my office. I hope others in Clovis follow suit. As to me personally, I will be posting on my Blog and other Blogs as to what happened to me and hope others, who have experienced something similar, will speak up too. read more

I have been at this Market on several occasions. Its always a great experience. The store is always clean, the service is great. Meat is always fresh, excellent selection. If they don't have what you need or what you are looking for they will order it for you. They have great suggestions for your entertainment needs. Don't forget the Tri-Tip sandwiches!! Good quality meat, friendly and knowledgeable staff. This was my first trip to the Meat Market since moving back to the Central Valley after 10 years and I was not disappointed. Last weekend my husband and I stopped by to see what was available for an upcoming party we are hosting. While there, we ordered a rack of ribs and a pint of potato salad to take home for lunch. What a mistake. The ribs were so dry they were like jerkey on the bone my husband tried to salvage some of the meat and mix it with BBQ sauce but even at that, the meat was inedible. I thought it might be a fluke and intended to go purchase tri-tips there today, but after reading the rest of these reviews that is not going to happen.
