My first home is New York City, my second home is Philadelphia, and now my third home--due to just…read morehaters--is Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. This is probably the reason most entertainers and people of fame who come from Harrisburg move away and don't say they are from there But anyway... Me, having Philly family and being a Philly fan of everything, especially those Eagles (don't stop reading because of that!), I had a chance to get a cheesesteak from South Philly Hoagie, and let me tell you, I was impressed. The bread makes everything, and then of course the meat. I ordered mine with mayonnaise, cheese whiz, and of course, mushrooms. Now, I did order it through the Uber Eats app, and I wish I could've added provolone, but I never had to add pizza sauce to my cheesesteak until today. I'm glad I did! It made it pop, even though it was missing that provolone. One thing I do wish is that they would actually take the bread and get some of that steak juice right on the bun. Other than that, I'm not mad at it. Of course, it's not Philly. It didn't bounce me right back to the hometown of Will Smith, and it didn't have me saying "I'M A WORK OF ART." However, I was pleased and satisfied. Maybe the flavoring can hold me over until my next pay next week so I can take a train down to Philly. The French fries were amazing, if I must say. The sub was plenty full and had plenty of meat on it. If you asked me, "Would I buy this again?" Yes, I definitely would! And I would do it over-the-counter so I can have it my way, like Burger King! They piled the meat high and it eas super tender. The sandwich I ordered had red sauce that I asked to be removed and it was perfect. They really STUFF these guys full which is nice. My boyfriend really enjoyed his. Mine was super greasy so I had to dab that off as best I could. It was good but it didn't really hit the spot for me. My quest for the cheesesteaks continues.

There were a few…read morepeople there when we arrived, and more filtered in as the evening went on--always a good sign. I ordered the Cacio e Pepe Cheesesteak for $16, while my dining companion went with a traditional Cooper cheesesteak with onions and peppers on a non-seeded roll ($15), plus an order of tater tots ($5). We both grabbed sodas for $3 each, and our grand total--including tip--was just over $50. The traditional Cooper cheesesteak, tots, and sodas were pretty run-of-the-mill--solid, satisfying, and exactly what you'd expect. But the Cacio e Pepe Cheesesteak? That deserves special attention. The Cheesesteak Guy raves about this sandwich on Facebook, describing it as a fusion of the classic Philly cheesesteak and the Roman pasta dish Cacio e Pepe--and for once, the hype is fully justified. Thinly sliced ribeye topped with melted Pecorino Romano and a generous amount of freshly cracked black pepper, all on a perfectly seeded roll. It was rich, indulgent, and gloriously peppery in the best way. Plenty of Pecorino (which is currently my favorite cheese), bold flavor, and a roll that held everything together beautifully. Truly perfection in a bun--tender, savory, and downright unforgettable. My only suggestion? A little more consistency in the meat prep. Some chunks of ribeye inside my sandwich were quite large and seemed to miss the slice-and-dice phase. Still delicious, but smaller, evenly chopped pieces would make it easier to eat and even better overall. That said, I'll absolutely be back--Patty Melt and Greek Burger are already on my list. Bonus points for plentiful free parking since it's located in a strip mall. One tip if you're going at night: pay close attention, because the sign isn't lit and can be easy to miss in the dark. If you're craving a cheesesteak with a creative twist, don't sleep on the Cacio e Pepe. It's something special.

The cheesesteak was very good! The bread and steak were delicious, even the wiz went well with it, although putting it on before the meat is a little different. The brisket sandwich, I was not a fan of. It's just my opinion but it's served pretty basic. It comes with au jus, but that doesn't really add much. It's kind of bland, and it doesn't taste like it was smoked, idk how they prepared the meat, or if they get it delivered, but it was very bland. I've read other reviews of people saying they waited over an hour and this and that, but I got my sandwich's pretty quickly! Hot and ready to go! I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the area! I ordered Mac salad but I got potato salad instead, but I don't hold that against them, accidents happen, and the potato salad was good!

When I arrived, I was told it would be one hour for a hot sandwich, or 40 minutes for a cold sandwich. They have 3 or 4 tables placed end to end to make one long table. Someone was seated at the table, so I could hardly get by to go to the restroom. I left without getting anything. There are some picnic tables outside. This place is basically a takeout place for the locals. Recommend getting a sandwich at one of the Harrisburg places. Do not plan to return.

Some were great, some good and others should have never been called cheese steak subs. We moved to PA a few years back and have explored our community for the best places to eat. It was one day about 3 months ago, my wife and me had a hankering for a really good cheese steak sub. We punched in the request in our GPS and several places displayed upon the screen. After a quick check on reviews of the various locations, we settled on South Philly Hogies. Although the trip was 18 minutes away at 23 miles, off we went to try this establishment. We both ordered the California Cheese Steak and fries. We drove home and I can tell you by far this was the best Cheese Steak we had ever eaten. The bread it is served on is so soft and fresh and they have no issues with making it your way. I would be remiss if I didn't make mention that the staff are always nice and friendly. The quality and quantity that you get with your order almost seems impossible these days. We were so pleased that every time a family visits us here in PA, South Philly Hogies will always get a stop from us. We enjoyed every bite and discovered that we like it so much that as soon as we receive our food, we travel to the shopping mall and eat on the lot. We never make it home now with our food. All you hear in the car is lips smacking and people saying "um, um , um" I must also report that they are truly wonderful with regard to prices. I have paid upwards of almost $30.00 for the food we ordered from other establishments and the food was not that great at all. Not wishing to see price increased at this location but I would gladly pay a little more because they are that good. Thank you guys for doing such a great job with your service and your food. We will see you again as you are now on our once every 2 week visit list. For ever! Mr. & Mrs. Green

Her husband Brad invited us in as Lance remembered us from the day before and they happily made us sandwiches. They were also cleaning out the ice cream machine from the day and gave us and passerby's free shakes instead of letting them go to waste. Super fresh rolls with the right texture that have some give, some squish, but still held up well to being stuffed with the steak, cheese, and add-ins/sauce. Also good quality ribeye steak that's well chopped. I prefer mine with provolone and sweet peppers, along with marinara on top. But honestly, these cheesesteaks are good enough with just steak and cheese. The fries here are shoestring, which is perfect if you don't want soggy fries when you let them sit. Penn Steaks uses beef tallow which gives it a bit more savory taste. I'm not really into beef tallow for frying, yet I still enjoyed then. I'd still prefer Five Guys fries over these. But don't let that stop you from trying them! And the service was fantastic. The person taking my order was polite and helpful. I even met one of the co-owners who was very friendly! A great guy to chit-chat if you like that sort of thing. I learned quite a bit from him during my visit. They sell their cheesesteaks in 6", 9", and 18". The 9" is generous and should satisfy most people. I might be able to finish an 18" if was really hungry and didn't add too much to it, but I'd be in pain afterwards! The 18" is better for sharing. I'll stop by more often for a good cheesesteak. Next time I'll get extra cheese on it. I know I'll probably be addicted to their cheesesteaks sooner or later. Edit: added photo of their cheesesteak
