We gave been to Old City Hall several times over the last years. Each time gas been hit or miss. This time was a hit. Our server, Brynn was absolutely amazing. She was attentive. Knowledgeable and cared about our experience. The food was spot on as well. The roast beef sandwich was a hit. Filet mignon yummy. And chicken pot pie as delicious as described. Not at all a good experience. We won't return. We went to Old City Hall for dinner to celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary. We made a reservation through their website, which sent us to the "Taost" app. When prompted in the app, we included info about food allergies and mentioned our anniversary. Though the app prompted us the provide this info, no mention was made of either at dinner. Though the dining room was almost empty, the hostess seated another couple at the table right next to us a few minutes after we sat down. As it turned out, I was closer to the man from this other party than I was to my wife....not an ideal setting for what was meant to be a romantic anniversary dinner celebration. It was especially annoying because there were so many other empty tables available. We each had a cocktail, (A "Mule" and a "Perjury"), which were excellent. Dinner was another story. Petite Caesar Salads were ok, not great. Chicken Picatta and Lobster Oreganata were horribly salty. The chicken and lobster were cooked alright but were almost inedible because of the saltiness. Either the "chef" didn't taste the sauces or didn't care. Either way, yuck! Never again. read more

Let's start with a positive... Our server Stacey was absolutely phenomenal! Her customer service was spot on. Her timing was amazing. She knew the menu and was absolutely excellent. But despite her best efforts and doing absolutely everything she could and beyond she couldn't fix the problems with the food. The chicken tenders and fries were absolutely amazing and delicious but everything else thereafter was a hot mess. There has been some sort of change with the menu, which I can only imagine is because of a change in the kitchen or ownership. I have to stress that whatever change happened to either the kitchen, the Chef or the ownership, the quality and taste of the food has gone absolutely down the drain. The chicken piccata was completely inedible because it was literally a nasty par boiled piece of chicken that was rubbery with nothing but butter and lemon as the sauce. Again, Stacey was fantastic and immediately took care of my concern and offered me another dish. Thank you Stacy. She recommended the jambalaya. Unfortunately, the jambalaya was just as bad as the chicken piccata. That was because the jambalaya used the exact same nasty chicken that was again rubbery. The shrimp was overcooked. The sausage was decent. The rice and sauce were fine. The lamb chops were unevenly cooked. One was overdone. One was underdone. The third was apparently Goldilocks and in the middle. This used to be one of my most favorite places, with the best location and atmosphere, but ever since the change... which I can't even pinpoint... resulted in poor menu, choice changes and horrible food. They need to go back to what they used to do... Because the food now is not worth either the price or your time. What a shame. I would love to give Stacey five stars and the rest of our experience one star. read more

An excellent tomato bisque. Grilled cheese is a triple decker which I didn't realize until after it arrived. Probably unnecessary, but could be good if you're extra hungry. Also got a strawberry rhubarb mule which was Delicious. Sat at the bar for a no frills kind of night and felt very comfortable. Lots of chatter around the restaurant for a Tuesday night. read more

10/10! Outstanding service, vibe, food & drink - everything was perfect. Our server Stacy was friendly, kind, funny, personable and fun! She said the Lamb Chops were a hit and I'm so glad I got them. The Lamb Chops were cooked to a perfect med-well, the sides were well paired and the homemade special sauce was the perfect complement to the meal. The Fettuccine Alfredo was perfect - the sauce, the seasoning on the juicy, perfectly cooked chicken breast, it was a delicious savory meal. The atmosphere is a chill, cozy, quiet and romantic vibe - we sat near the bar area for a great date night feel. We had the Banana Butter Pie for dessert, which is not pictured because we ate it as soon as it came out. It was rich, delicious and every bite was perfect. 10/10 date night vibes - this was not it first time here but it is our first time back since the new chef and new menu changes. Really like the atmosphere here. Cool old school place. Server was very nice. Shrimp Cromosi was excellent and so was the salmon BLT.

So, we have not been to OCH for a while. We thought we would give it another try since we have been patrons for over 30 years. My husband had the chicken piccata, usually chicken is pounded thin and cooked nice and crispy. Not so with this. Chicken was not thin and very little taste. Pasta was an extra charge...really. I had the prime rib sandwich. The bun left a lot to be desired and they still don't have horseradish for this sandwich. We love this place and wished they would upgrade to their previous food. read more

Such a disappointment! We were seated at a table near the window. Nice. The couple who entered next were seated so close to us we felt we had to whisper. In a room of 20 empty tables on a Monday evening, they decided to seat the only couples in the restaurant right next to each other! The drinks were good, but the entrees were almost inedible...salty beyond belief! I could only eat half of mine, not because I wasn't hungry, but because of the salt...it felt like it was burning my mouth. Happy anniversary dinner to us (NOT!). I had the meatloaf dinner. The meatloaf was too dense, almost like a piece of beef, it was on the dry side. The special cherrywood topping did little to add moisture to the dish. It was pricey for a meatloaf dinner, even with the high beef prices now. I would not recommend this dinner. The service was good but not at the level you would expect. It's always hit or miss. I've noticed the service is great if it's a weekend or the manager is working, otherwise you'll be waiting 10 minutes or more before anyone even comes to the table. We've gotten up and left multiple times for lack of service. The nights when the service is terrible so is the food. It ends up over cooked or luke warm. When you come to a nicer restaurant with higher priced food, you expect better service. It used to be a place we want to go, but not much anymore. read more

My grandparents requested that we eat here for their 50th anniversary. They had a lovely time, and Gavin made sure our party was well taken care of! I ordered the Bibimbap and enjoyed a few bites, but everything in the bowl was bland besides the small scoop of meat with a heavy soy flavor. The shiitake mushrooms were soggy and the bowl was mainly rice. My boyfriend's burger tasted plastic-ish and sugary. Edible but not great. The fries were the star of his dish! Heard of Old City Hall from our friends over at Under the Radar. The place is in the heart of downtown and not hard to find. Inside is very cool and you can feel the history. There was a bar side and then a dining side, big brick wall was in between the two. It was way too loud when we walked in (I know, I sound like a grump). But the music was blasting and we almost turn around and walked out. We sat up front and our waitress was friendly. We got some delicious hard ciders on tap. Turn around time for service was great until we had to wait for our entrees. Appetizer (focaccia and dips) came out within 5 minutes of ordering and entrees didn't come out for at least 25+ minutes. I got the burrito bowl with shrimp, it was good but needed more sauce. Not worth the long wait. My husband got the Santa Fe chicken sandwich and he was happy with his meal. The place emptied out around 8:30 p.m. and the live music stopped around then. The wait time for our bill was very long as well. I felt like we were here for hours. But overall, nice ambience inside and pretty good food, our service was just very slow. read more

This is a really cool place and I must see if you go to Bay City. You walk in and it's very interesting because they have the main bar with all its historic Glory, and then to the left is another room for dining and if you go to the right there is a private dining area for parties. We only went there for drinks so I can't tell you how the food is but the menu looked delicious. The bartender said that all the food was good, and I have to take her out of word. They had a really nice crowd that came in early and she also told us that Fridays and Saturdays they really bring in a good dinner crab. read more

My old friends and I met here for a little mini reunion for a Friday evening dinner. We made reservations for 12 over a month ago and still only had on server (Samantha, who was great by the way) assigned to us. I normally just eat lunch at this establishment and had not had dinner service here in years. I found the supper menu to be limited. I enjoyed the chicken nacho appetizer but noticed the black bean salsa had decreased in size. My entree was the Sposami Pollo that was flavorful but the chicken was dry. We were seated about 3 hours. They also had live music which was one person singing and playing a guitar. It was extremely loud. So loud that I could barely hear the person in conversation right next to me. I expected a fine dining atmosphere not a sports bar. They have a vast amount of beers, wine and a full bar. Low, high top and booth seating with cloth napkins. The ambiance is old city Brick walls with low lighting. 3% service fee charge for credit cards. Very good service even for understaffing a table. Clean. Limited street parking. I enjoyed the drinks and the company of old friends but I think I will go back to just getting lunch here when it's better quality food and a little quieter. read more

While visiting Bay City I had a chance to dine at Old City Hall. It's a local favorite so I was thrilled to give it a try. I walked over from the Double Tree which took roughly five minutes tops. One side is the bar and bar seating surrounds the bar. It was obvious the is the choice favorite as I over heard a bar tender ask a patron would you like your usually or were you going to try something new? I decided I like the small time feel. The happy hour menu was the best place for me to sample the fixings before deciding on an entrée . I ordered the calamari & Lavender mule. The calamari was seasoned well, tender and crispy the way I like it. It's served with cocktail sauce or their chipotle sauce. The lavender mule was a beautiful surprise. I opted for the virgin mule not a fan of vodka. It was a sensual sweet, effervescent and refreshing. A perfect wind down drink to end the day. I ordered the Bistro burger no bun, no cheese, medium well, onions, pickles, tomatoes, jalapeños and sweet potatoes fries. The burger was cooked to perfection the taste of the burger it's was nice. I just added a dash of salt and pepper. The sweet potato fries were delicious as well. The flourless chocolate was super delectable. The only reason why I did not give a five stars was the long wait. read more

Stopped here while in town overnight and had some yummy food. Not many places open on New Years Day, but well worth the stop. Service was good at the bar and there was a healthy crowd for a holiday. Was feeling the need for comfort food and the Mac n cheese did not disappoint. Served with crisp bacon on top, it was nice and cheesy. Went out for a post holiday meal.. party of six. I could knit-pick about several things (having to ask for refills and such) - however, my sons burger was very charred and bitter and the "short-rib" ragu I ordered was awful. Barely warm, the meat was in chunks and very chewy. Nothing like short rib. We sent it back, and some cook literally comes out challenging me on the issues, smug with his kitchen job, and ends it with "sorry we could't please you boss". No... I am sorry your food was unacceptable by any standard. Rest of the food seemed fine... would give another chance, but not after the silly encounter with the cook. read more

I'm my opinion this is the best restaurant in this town. I had the ahi tuna with in house made nacho chips, horseradish sauce and veggie. It was amazing. Then for my main dish I had blackened salmon with green beans. I too was fantastic. Lastly, for dessert I had the flourless chocolate cake absolutely delicious. The service was great. Found myself in Bay City as my friend and I met up halfway in between us for dinner. They had some good reviews and it looked cute from the outside. The inside is nicely decorated/nice atmosphere, but it's pretty loud in there especially with the band/duo playing. TBH, they were too loud for a dinner crowd. It was really hard trying to have a conversation with my friend. If it was later in the night and you were sitting in the bar area, that would be different. Our server was nice and helpful but we weren't blown away by the food. We ordered calamari as an appetizer and the pieces were larger than normal, I liked it more than my friend did. Their cocktail sauce was excellent tho! My friend liked his steak but it wasn't anything special. I was disappointment in the pork chops. They were super fatty! They also tasted bland to me and my friend thought they were on the dry side. They were ok but not something I'd order again. My pork chops were accompanied by green beans and potatoes, both were very good but better than the pork chops! I definitely consider going back but I would want to order something else and I would ask to sit far away from any music that was being played. I'd give this place a 3.5 but I'm rounding up to a 4 read more

This restaurant is absolutely amazing! You walk in and have such a great variety of options to enjoy your meal. You got a quiet room or a higher class bar. When you walk in you're greeted by a lovely waitress and the service is top notch. The food is made how you want it ordered. Tell your server what you like and you will get a good recommendation. I had the Thai chicken lettuce wrap and the balance was perfect. The waitress made sure the order was too my liking and the ambience is very welcoming. The lighting is perfect and with a visit. Not certain how the food is because we sat there for 40 minutes and they never took our order. One waiter walked by a dozen times, but never stopped. Saw three of them pointing our way and talking. The food was impressive. I had the Espresso rubbed ribeye, the steak it self was fine but the sauce has an amazing coffee flavor which I never had before. There was also some smashed potatoes and I guess it was butternut squash on the side. The steak came with options of a salad or a soup, I chose the Caesar salad and it has an interesting sour flavor, which wasn't what I was expected but indeed very tasty. I also had the crab dips, the crab and cheese was good but what makes it outstanding are the chips. I guess they are house made since I don't know any brand of chips are that good. The service was amazing the greeter and server are all friendly. But one thing that I want to mention is that I was actually looking for something special, especially for seafood, but there aren't too many on the menu and I ended up eating beef next to a huge lake. My fiancée and I went here for the first time yesterday. Got to say we will definitely be back. Great atmosphere, plenty of drink selections, and our food/service was on point -even with there being a wedding going on at the time. I got the prime rib sandwich with truffle fries and my fiancée got a grilled cheese with truffle fries. We both agreed that our fries were the best we've ever had (get some garlic aioli to dip them in) and we both enjoyed our sandwiches very much. Great Moscow mules as well! read more
