When i went into Mechanic Mikes the first time it was good I spent $1000 on car second time i was having problems $$$$ wanted them to know i could not go over 200 dollar's . The rude guy at desk came back with an estimate $ 700 . I said i couldn't afford . He said so you don't want it done I replied I cant . He acted abruptly. A month later my adult son decides hell do it . He came into the house outraged and said who was this back yard mechanic that stripped all the lug nuts ? I am not impressed with the customer service at Mechanic Mike's. They seem to work with a reactive motto rather than being proactive. If it was one minor issue then there would be no problem at all but that was not the case... 1. I requested an appointment through their site on Sunday (3/28) for the following Saturday (4/3). I had not heard back from them confirming the appointment so I gave them a call on Wednesday (3/31), only to find out that they are not going to be open on Saturday's. Okay, no problem, except it took me calling them to receive that information. 2. I had let them know that I needed my oil/filter changed and had a service minder code from my car that my wheels needed to be rotated. Gary told my friend who brought in my car that my wheels DID NOT need to be rotated. Then my friend talked to Rob who said they couldn't rotate them because they were closing. Now I'm just confused. 3. Once I got my car back, the drivers seat had noticeable black marks on the side that I will now have to spend additional money on to clean. On top of all this, they did not clear the minder codes that came up and a new minder code came - which should not have happened. I will not be going back. read more

A couple of weeks ago I took my truck in for smog for DMV registration but my check engine light was on. They told me right away that they would not run the smog test as it would be an automatic fail. They asked if I wanted to run a diagnostic to locate the issue. The price was a little higher than some others but in talking to a longtime customer there, he told me they have the highest diagnostic machine and that it was worth it. So I paid for it. They found the issue. It needed a part that was a dealer stocked item. Mike ordered the part a drove to pick it up HIMSELF so I could get it fixed asap. I'm new to the community and of course am always leary of being gauged. Mike and his staff are honest,friendly and reasonably priced. Looks like I've found my new mechanic! Thanks again! read more

I first have to say that both Jack and Mike are very easy to talk to as well as professional. I took my truck in for an axel replacement. The fixed it while also diagnosing other problems at a very fair price. However when it came to aligning my vehicle my experience at the shop went downhill fast! After 7 times having to go back into the shop (some of those times being after hours) my vehicle is still pulling very hard to the right. One of the mechanics also did damage to my steering wheel. Jack offered for me to bring it back for another alignment however after 7 visits this shop has lost my trust. read more

Drive older cars so we have been here quite often. They were ok (not stellar, not bad) until unfortunately, air conditioning stopped working. It first stopped working last summer, they "fixed" it. Then, happened again this summer...ok, weird, they fixed it again. It worked for one trip to San Diego and back, then once again, stopped working. Took it in a third time and were charged $200 for another assessment only to find out it was going to be over $1600 to fix. So, time for a new car and hopefully less time at the mechanic...we may or may not return here, if we do, will update to let you know how it goes. read more

I had an exceptional experience with this company. Everybody was so kind. My car broke down early in the morning, on my way into work, I managed to get it to a safe area, then walked to this shop. I met a man named Jack, he was so sympathetic and could tell I was very stressed out. He had another mechanic walk with me to my car, and he drove it back to the shop. I didn't know it at the time, but my car was only running on 3 cylinders! Turns out I needed a coil and spark plug replaced, and some other stuff done. They even shuttled me back to my house, while they repaired my car. The cost was half what the VW dealership would have charged me. I'm so glad I found this shop. Mechanic Mikes have some very hard working and dedicated mechanics.  These guys definitely go the extra mile to diagnose and fix your problem.  I took my vehicle to get my AC diagnosed from another "reputable" shop in Escondido and for $100 they told me I needed my AC compressor replaced which would cost major money.  I took it to Mechanic Mikes for a second opinion and it wasn't the AC compressor at all. They took the time to find the real problem (Evap Sensor) and saved me hundreds of dollars, not to mention over a thousand dollars on a useless repair that didn't need to be done. read more

We called Mechanic Mike Automotive after our 2011 Chevy Tahoe would not move when in drive. We explained that the car had been over heating and jerking through out the day, then finally would not move when we accelerated. We mentioned we were concerned it was the transmission. After having the car towed to Mechanic Mike's Automotive they called several times confusing us with other customers and other cars problems. They said they were given the ok to work on the car by "your husband, Jose" (wrong name and no permission given) I stated to please give my husband a call to make sure the right work would be done since they were confusing us with another car and customer. We were then told the fan relays were bad and they were going to change fan relays and thermostat also replace coolant and that was the reason car was overheating and jerking. Upon arrival, when told it was fixed and ready to go, the gauge was still reading above 210 and when I asked if that was ok, the mechanic responded, "yes, that's perfect" as he closed up the shop and started to walk to his car to leave, I put it in drive and pushed on the gas and the car still would not move. I expressed my concern and the mechanic got in the drivers seat aggressively and tried to move it, when it would not move a second mechanic got in and the same happened to him. He then said very abruptly, " oh yea you're gonna need a rebuild of your transmission." At this point I was very upset and said that was the whole reason we brought it in for. He said "no it wasn't I had no idea there were concerns about transmission and I asked him to call my husband immediately. He told my husband there was some confusion at the front desk and he had not even driven the car. He was going to let me leave without even test driving the car to make sure it was running correctly. We decided to have it towed to AAMCO where it was immediately diagnosed as a failed transmission and that was the cause of it over heating, not anything Mechanic Mike's Automotive had diagnosed. Our car was misdiagnose and due to negligence of the shop. The car was not test driven and if driven would have felt the car not moving while in drive, they charged us for things that were unnecessary. We were told by Jack we would get a full refund and when we went back the first time we were told he had to do the refund and he was not there at that time. Then when we went back a second time they told us Jack quit. A claim has been submitted to Bureau of Automotive Repair and Better Business Bureau. Please be aware. read more

Went in earlier today because I was having some headlight trouble. All exterior lights were working except for my headlights... I thought it was going to be something major because it is pretty rare for both headlights to go out at once. I took my car in and 10 minutes later found out it was my headlight bulbs. I was just a walking wallet when I walked in the door here. So here's the story. My husband has a lifted Jeep and it was doing the notorious "death wobble" on one of the front wheels so we initially took it to 4 Wheel Parts for them to take a look at it since he got the lift put on at a 4 Wheel Parts location in another state. After they inspected it, they called him and said it would be $900 to fix. Woah! Now I'd be ok with that if it truly needed $900 worth of work, but you know how these car repair places can be, so you just never know. They said they wouldn't be able to fit the Jeep in for another couple days so we took it home and I took advantage of the extra time to do my homework on some other places to get a second opinion. My husband, bless his heart, was willing to just plunk down a credit card, no questions asked. Good thing he has me. Lol :P So I looked up some places around and ended up at Mechanic Mike's to get a second opinion. I called first to ask if they were familiar with Jeeps with after market lift kits. He assured me that they were and said they were even working on one now. He inspected it for free to get me an estimate to show my husband when he got home from work that night. That much I appreciated. He looked at what 4 Wheels wanted to do(there were no prices listed on it though) and was like, "Wow it looks like they wanna rebuild the whole front end to fix the problem!" So I'm thinking I've come to the right place! I knew 4 Wheels was just trying to squeeze money out of us! Then he hands me their estimate and it's for $825!! I'm guessing he knew 4 Wheels was charging a TON so they figured if they could just get their estimate slightly lower, they could take our business from 4 Wheels and get their greedy paws on our hard earned money. Even when I called beforehand and told him we had been to 4 Wheels first, he said, "Oh I know we can beat their price for you" so obviously they're familiar with their outrageous prices. So I take the estimate, thank them and leave, thinking maybe we will just use 4 Wheels after all since a $75 savings isn't worth it to take a chance on a different place from the place that put the lift on it. I didn't give up though! I went home and started doing more research online and ended up on Jeepforum.com. That's where I heard from multiple people about Dave at Auto Doctor up in Temecula. They said this guy knows his Jeeps and it's worth the drive! They also said his prices were very reasonable. It would be a 30 minute drive north for us but I convinced my husband we should take a shot. I called and spoke to Dave and then emailed him the 4 Wheels plan of action. He took a look at it and said the same thing about how they are wanting to rebuild the whole front end and how that was most likely unnecessary. So we took the Jeep up there, he inspected it, figured out the problem, and fixed it for us for $170!!!!!!!! It's been over a week now and it drives perfectly. No problems whatsoever. I'm sorry this ended up being so long but I hope that my experience can help other people. This garbage that we went through with 4 Wheels and Mechanic Mike's is the kind of thing that gives people heart palpitations at the very thought of having to shop for car repair. Don't allow yourself to get overcharged here like we would have been!! read more

On Friday, February 27 I took my 2002 Toyota Corolla to Mechanic Mike's It was running fine, but the check engine light had come on so something needed to be addressed. The diagnosis was the O2 sensor and around noon I gave the go ahead to replace it. It was expected that my car would be ready by the close of the day, however it wasn't done until about 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 28. (2 full days in the shop)--cost $360 I returned my car (per the warranty) on Monday evening March 9 because I was experiencing severe power loss on acceleration from a stop, and popping noises from the engine. On Wednesday the diagnosis was damaged fuel injectors that needed to be replaced. Relying on the shop's expertise, I gave the okay to replace them. I picked up my car on Thursday morning, March 12 (2 full days in the shop) Cost $820 On Tuesday, March 24 I again began experiencing power loss and popping sounds upon acceleration. I returned the car a third time on Wednesday, March 25. I checked on the status of the car on Thursday, March 26 and again Friday morning March 27. At that time Mechanic Mike's still did not have an idea of what might be wrong. At the close of the day, the problem still had not been determined. I picked up my car. (3 full days in the shop) On Saturday, March 28 I took the car to Toyota Escondido. It was determined that the O2 sensor installed by Mechanic Mike's was defective and needed to be replaced. I had that done and have had no problems with my car since. The technician also said that was highly unlikely that there had been a problem with the injectors. The facts are that I took my car to Mechanic Mike's and it was running fine, but that after 3 visits, 7 days in the shop and approximately $1200 later I had a car that was unsafe and unfit to drive. It cost me an additional $430 to get it back on the road. I won't be going back. read more

I went to another garage for the rear brakes and they told me my front rotors were not turned properly and it would affect the system. I took my car in for a head gasket job. They charged me 3000.00 and after keeping my car in for 3 months they ruined my engine and destroyed my stereo system. 30,000 worth of damages. Like cowards they did not take responsibilities. When they tried to have their insurance pay for their damage and did not work they just say they will not pay. They have no one competent to even take a screw out and usually their mechanics will ruine the customers cars just to get even with coward Mike. They gave my car to a tech that was getting fired that day. He was already creating all kinds of problems with work at the shop. He just sabotaged my car to get even with the owner.
