Medi Weightloss is a realistic program and it works. I get the weekly guidance I need and I am never made to feel ashamed by set backs or being stuck in a rut. D is the best counselor for me and her care is genuine. The staff is the most wonderful, kindest group of awesome woman that I've ever met. I really love them all. The space is clean although the furnishings are a bit drab and old and even though the scales work, they seem to be falling apart. The one big downside for me is there is NO PRODUCT, rather a minimal smattering. I rely on supplementing my diet with some Medi products and I can't get them in Plainville which is a shame. I work around it though, the Wellesley office has their shelves stock full. Plus mail order, but that takes time. Who likes to wait these days. read more

The staff are very kind and caring. The issue I have is with the program itself. I'm sure it works for some people, but definitely doesn't for me. It is an extremely restrictive keto diet that is not sustainable. If you have any sort of disordered eating history, I do not recommend. They offer some medications and supplements (all of which are their brand). The only appetite suppressant they offer is phentermine, which is a stimulant that can cause heart palpitations, increased anxiety and psychosis, not to mention is also has abuse potential as it is chemically similar to amphetamines. Overall, it felt like a marketing ploy to buy all of their products to ensure your success. If you are considering making an appointment, I encourage you to approach it with a skeptic view and consult all your doctors before starting any medications or supplements they recommend. If you are struggling with weight management, I suggest looking into seeing a doctor that specializes in it, such as a bariatric physician or endocrinologist. When seeing a healthcare provider, they should not be encouraging you to buy their specific products. I personally find it unethical to be advising patients on their health and then also be profiting off the treatments you recommend. I know its legal and is done with many other medications and parts of healthcare, but how it is done here is blatant and excessive. read more

Overall, I can say some positives. The people are nice, and people seemed to want me to succeed. Unfortunately, there's a lot of bad as well. I quit the program after a few months for a few reasons. The first is a big one - I have an egg allergy, and no one knew how to handle it. All of their products contained egg (vegans beware, I guess), so I couldn't buy their powders and bars. They give out recipes each week, many of which contain eggs. When I asked about it people sort of shrugged or said just to google recipes. The other problem is - this program is basically just a keto diet. I did this on my own. In fact, I learned recently that long-term keto diet gave me Cushing's. I did keto for 18 months, lost tons of weight, then suddenly gained it back in 2 months with no change in diet or exercise. It was this sudden gain and extreme difficulty losing weight that made me call Medi-Weightloss in the first place, only to find out they wanted me to do what I'd already done for so long. Eventually I went to the doctor and ran some tests. My endocrinologist told me partway through the program to stop keto immediately, as that was the most likely cause of my weight problems. My adrenal had probably shut down due to the stress of the extreme diet. I asked the folks there if they could help me out with a non-keto version of the diet, and they initially said yes, though I was skeptical. When this happened, the program became useless. They gave me a pamphlet saying "congratulations on completing your weight loss journey" with a list of virtually all non-junk foods. No viable recipes. No discernible plan. I had no idea what to eat day to day and really needed more of a plan instead of just a gigantic list of foods with a seemingly-mocking "congratulations" message. I enjoyed the idea of a support team that helped out and kept me motivated, and everyone at the program (for the exception of one nurse who just sort of stared at me awkwardly and gave me no cues about what I was supposed to do or ask) was fantastic, but at the end of the day I was told that they couldn't violate the corporate program too much. If you've never done keto and are willing to roll the dice this program could work for you. Or it could apparently kill your adrenal gland. It's medical weight loss, but they aren't doing blood tests for adrenal function or cortisol levels, so they wouldn't catch this problem. Overall, I feel like I wasted a lot of time, and money, and am once again completely alone in my recovery from Cushings. read more

UPDATE to my original review dated 9/15/2015: As of today, Friday, September 18, 2015 I have finally (!) received my pro-rated refund from Medi Weight Loss. I had asked Bruno to put in writing a breakdown of my pro-rated refund and he did. Matter of fact, Bruno even went so far as to apologized for not responding to my emails or returning my call. Direct Quote: "I apologize if you felt like you were getting the run-around, as I can see how it looked that way from your perspective." So that's something, right? As previously stated: if you find yourself unhappy with the program and would like a pro-rated refund, be sure to keep track of all services you receive re: document everything. In fact, I recommend you put you request for a refund in writing first (either via email or certified letter) and then speak to Bruno or Lisa as it is difficult to prove a conversation. Looking back, I am very glad I put my initial request for a refund in an email. On a more personal note. I was trying to lose 20 lbs. In my humble opinion if you are trying to lose 20 lbs or even 50 lbs I would not recommend Medi WL. From my perspective, that program is for people who are morbidly obese and have tried every other avenue to lose weight. During the acute phase, the program requires you to eat every 3 hours consisting of 3 meals and 2 snacks (each meal/snack consisting entirely of protein). Now, I understand the science behind the program (keep your metabolism stoked so as to burn fat) but I do not believe that this is a healthy way to eat. Any diet that admonishes vegetables and fruit is not a healthy diet -- in my opinion. While in the acute phase you are not allowed to have any carbs: starchy or cruciferous. When you reach your weight loss goal, you can move out out of the acute phase and then you re-introduce vegetables, fruits and grains. However, if you see your weight climb, you must decrease the veggies/fruit and up the protein (again) so as to put your body back into ketosis). I don't know, call me crazy but can anyone sustain a diet like that forever???? As a vegan, my diet is primarily comprised of vegetables, grains and fruits - giving up these foods would be like asking me not to breath. I just cannot do it. All told, I still want to lose 20 lbs but I know this is not the way. A long time ago I used to see an RD and whenever I would propose a weight loss idea to her, she would ask me, "Susan is it sustainable?". If the answer was 'no' then she would say not to do it. If you think you can sustain Medi WL, then go for it, but I I would bet the percentage of people who permanently fall off the program is greater than those who manage to stay on it. The owner and staff here are exceptional. Their attention to detail and bedside manner are second to none. Everyone I know that has been to this clinic have seen the results they were looking for in a resonable timeframe based on the effort they put into it. I lost 25 pounds my goal was to lose 40. I did the 12 week program. They never warned me that my time was running out. I asked the staff and they had no clue when my 12 weeks would be over. When I checked with the receptionist she said today is your last visit and told me it was $70 for each additional appointment. I couldn't afford that. So thier attitude was basiclly don't let the door hit you on the way out. I got no advice on how to maintain the weightloss without the stay slim and weekly visits. They never explained when I should add fruits to my diet. I went 12 weeks with just meat and green veggies. They took a before photo but never took an after photo. I feel like they want me to be unsuccesful and gain the weight back. So they can get more money from me. read more

I had some success with this program many years ago when there was a different staff. I was contacted by the current staff last year with an offer to return, which I accepted. The promises made during the sales call turned out to be untrue. The availability of the appetite control medication was inconsistent. The overseeing physician, an OB/GYN whom I never saw on site, did not prescribe at the full therapeutic dosage so the medication did not work for me. Therefore, the program was a failure and there was no recourse to recover the monies paid in advance. The science behind this weight-loss concept is reasonable but the staff, the "pay up front and hope for the best" attitudes, and the inconsistency of an absentee physician from a practice area that has nothing to do with nutrition makes this business a poor option for weight loss. I've contacted the company, answered the multiple surveys and have received no response but I still receive solicitations to "share my experience" so I will continue to share my story so that others can be made aware of how this practice operates. read more

NO WAY! I was treated like a leper. The first thing that makes it less personal is the glass barrier. It makes clients feel as if you think we are sick - too much like a doctor's office and less like a therapeutic environment. Plus, I assume it's mostly women and we view it as clique-y ... we see your staff laughing and chatting and then "having to open the window" for us - with a facial expression of ugh this person is interrupting me. I went to a different Medi Weightloss location where they didn't have this barrier and I felt included. It made me feel they cared. They took the time to read who was coming in soon for their appointment and greeted by name. I felt like a number in Plainville. Disappointed. Don't go to This location. read more
