Best in town. I should have come here sooner. Shame on me. I order big at restaurants. I don't order a snack plate. When I want supper, I eat like a king. So, I ordered a table full. And ate nearly all of it. Good things: they have olives. And they will give you more than just two or three sad ones. Copious olives with supper are a must. The chicken kebab were quite good. I enjoyed them especially on the indispensable yellow rice. With a slice of lemon. The kofta was also good. I loved the char they were able to get on the meat. And they didn't skimp on the seasoning. The pasta was honestly meh. But it's not a pasta joint. Still, it was good and eaten. The salads were top notch - served and tasted authentic. Maybe could have used just a bit more onion. Pita was good, though not the fluffiest and warmest. Don't worry, I ate all of it anyway after driving it around my plates to clean up. Sweet tea was good. Finally a place that cleans their stuff. No funky tea here. But I regret not getting a glass of wine. Overall, exceeded expectations and I can easily recommend. read more

The food was good and I've been back 3 times. My favorite was the veggie plate although the falafel was over cooked (see pic). The gyro was different than I'm used to. I grew up eating the kind shaved from a rotisserie. It was good just not what I was expecting. I would love to go back and have wine with my meal next time. Lunch time is packed and it's hard to find parking at the restaurant. I parked a block away in the neighborhood. The service dining in was very slow and not very attentive. I love Greek and Mediterranean food. So, a visit to Mediterranean Tea Room was welcomed when suggested by a friend. TL;DR: Excellent service, very nice atmosphere, good spot for lunch (slightly pricey), probably better for dinner, good food. Service: the wait staff were all friendly and attentive. Our waiter kept my coffee hot and my water glass full. One of the other servers recognized my companion and remembered he liked his pita toasted, and immediately took the pita back and toasted it for him without being asked. Atmosphere: The restaurant has a very friendly, laid-back feel, like you would expect from a tea room. Very nice, warm decour. You feel "comfortable" here. Food: I was not disappointed by my entree. The portion size of salmon, salad, and rice was ample. I ate too much! The salmon was grilled expertly and prepared with a delicious topping. Absolutely no complaints. My ONLY COMPLAINT was the humus. I wasn't thrilled by it. It was not as flavorful as I was expecting. However, I also can't say that I know what true, authentic humus SHOULD taste like... I've only had it at other greek and Mediterranean restaurants and I attempted some from scratch about eight years ago, so I've tasted a good number of choices, but can't say which were truly authentic. So, theirs could be the best in the world and I just don't know better, but for my personal tastes, I've had better. I've MADE better. I can forgive the humus, though, because everything else was dynamite. Price: our total meal for two was $40. For lunch, that's a bit pricey for a lunch meal and for what we got, but again, everything (except the humus) was excellent. I would gladly go there again for dinner. read more

We went there today for dinner. We have been living in Columbia for 3 years and we know its existence but never been there before. There have been other Mediterranean restaurant on same road and we have been going there a lot. Tonight we supposed to go to same restaurant and we decided to hop in this one . It did not disappoint at all. Good food , good service , delicious food. Too much portion size. One dish will be enough for two. I do recommend eggplant pizza and chicken kebab on rice. read more

I love the Mediterranean Tea Room. The food is delicious and authentic. Here is the Kofta Medallions plate. My only issue is the warmth of the meat whithers some of the lettuce. Also the cumbers on the salad are cut pretty thick but I like it. The dressing is house-made and quite - a good balance between spices, oil and vinegar. I think they always serve the dress on the side so just try it out. If you love Greek food but you're tired of Greek Boys and Zoe's then try them out. Next time I'm going to try the hummus so I can make a review about it! read more

I had not been to Mediterranean Tea Room in YEARS so when my friend asked about it I thought it was a great idea to head back! The service was great and the staff was knowledgable about the menu items. We started with the hummus. You get a small mountain of hummus so quantity wise it's a good deal. We did not exactly care for the taste. It wasn't bad but we felt it needed a bit of acid so we ended up using the lemon from our waters to give it a bit of a kick. I had the Kofta Steak and I thought it was well seasoned and delicious. I would definitely order it again. The greek salad and rice were also nice. All of our meals (there were 3 of us) were plentiful and everyone seemed to enjoy their orders. Definitely check it out! Maybe skip the hummus? read more

Don't let the name Tea Room fool you in the name of the restaurant! Of the few Mediterranean Restaurants in the Columbia area, this one probably is my favorite places (service and food wise). I was here earlier this week with a book club I'm part of and they were able to sit our group in the "big" room that sits facing Divine Street. Given that we had 10+ people in our group, our dinners came out fairly quickly (like in 10 minutes) after we put in our orders. I'm glad that they have a regular grilled chicken option, which includes rice and a Cesear Salad, but since I'm not a Cesear Salad person, the salad was way bigger than I would have liked. Parking can also be tricky. The parking lot in front us not that big. The restaurant itself is not that big, but for the amount of people that were there when we were there, there was not enough spaces. It appears that there is some parking behind the restaurant as well, but not sure if it is for the restaurant or the business behind the restaurant. As most of us did, we wound up parking on King Street, the street between the BP Gas Station and the restaurant. read more

It gets no better than this place, atmosphere is minimal and not always as clean as you would like (but really is sanitary) but once you see the prices and the food, you realize this is a serious place to eat. 6 oz. chicken I have had many times and never tire of it. Salmon is great if they have it the day you are there, it is scarce, and very, very popular. Thursday night they do an amazingly good spegetti and other nights they have specials. The wait staff at lunch can't be equaled elsewhere, at night it can be variable but is always efficient. Very popular with locals. I see friends there most every time I go. It's hard to give this place a fair review after eating at amazing restaurants like Elie's and Al Amir. The food was good, but I have definitely had better. I was also a bit disappointed to see that they don't have dolmas ("grape leaves") on the menu, which is a very customary dish at any Mediterranean place. I liked the falafels in my vegetarian plate and the hummus was good too, but the tabouli was mediocre. I asked for a small cup of hot sauce to give the food a kick, and I was given a small cup of a green dish, which looked like it had minced chilies in it. Even with adding some of this to the food, it was just sub-par. However the place has a nice intimate and warm environment. It's not too noisy and is a good venue to get dinner and catch up, you don't have to shout over your meal, which is always a positive! Service was good too, our waitress was friendly and attentive. All in all, it's a nice environment for conversation but if you're hungry for a real Mediterranean meal and want delicious food, I'd suggest going to Elie's or Al Amir, their food is just much better. read more

Great falafel - well flavored, lightly fried, and - if you get the falafel sandwich - stuffed along with tomatoes, cucumbers, and tahini in a pita. It's not the most authentic Middle Eastern food ever - but that doesn't mean it isn't fresh, delicious, and simple good food. The sandwiches are a great deal and with the included salad, it's difficult to finish! The addition has a calmer atmosphere than sitting near the kitchen and take note that there's parking in the front and a lot in the back. read more

I haven't been here in about 8 months, but it's the first place I think of for food when I think of Columbia. Best hummus I've ever had. Period. Great appetizers.
