The food here at Medusas is truly the down home style Mexican food that I am used to enjoying with my wife who is the best judge of the home style flavor which this establishment has made available for their customers. Strolled in around 3 PM to this unassuming little place. There were a few other tables which I took to be a good sign on a Monday afternoon. The owner was there by himself and ran the show like an old pro. We had chips and salsa within 30 seconds, drinks within another minute, and our orders about 2 minutes after we ordered! The chips and salsa were very good; no grease at all on the chips and the salsa was zippy without being scorching. My wife had an order of nachos and I had a couple of tacos. Nothing mind blowing; the nachos were solid and the chicken in the tacos was very good. Very cool mural on the back wall. read more

I wasn't even high or drunk and when I ate my burrito at Medusa, this is what I told Jane Doe, " Jane, this burrito is so good it taste like as if I was high on weed, that's how good this burrito is!" My brotha man! One of the best burritos I've had hands down way better than So Cal. This place is owned by authentic Mexican people and cooked by authentic Mexican chefs. Before i begin, I think it's important to mention that the service here is refreshingly friendly and down to earth. Moving on, I suppose this is a review of Yelp just as much as it is a review of Medusa's. Yelp recommended this establishment as one of the highest rated spots in the local area, and I think four stars fits this place perfectly. The rice is excellent, the salsa is fresh, the enchiladas are cheeeesy, and the tacos are tasty...exactly what is required of any Mexican establishment, plus it offers service with a smile. We arrived at 7:25 pm. They close at 8:00pm. There were patrons eating in the restaurant. After we ordered the food, the lady said, we cannot sit down to eat. At 7:30 pm we have take out only. The first thing I noticed about Medusa's was it's lack of cleanliness. From the outside as you entering, it looked liked it hasn't been cleaned up in a while. Same impression on the inside. I almost left, but I was hungry for a meatless taco or burrito. The chalkboards posted single tacos for $2.75. The counter person kept pushing for the the full lunch option for about $10.00 more. She finally agreed to sell me a single rice and beans taco for $2.75. It was small and bland,and included unseasoned chips and undersalted and bland salsa. To be fare, they used to be good, but they've gone the way of other Cambria restaurants: low quality high priced food, served served in a messy, poorly decorated and unclean setting. read more

Three to four stars. The salsa was great, so I went with the larger number. They give you a choice of salsa on a scale. The woman behind the counter and pointed to a low point on the scale, probably because I am a mayonnaise face. I pointed near the top and said "caliente." I know a lot more French than Spanish, but I didn't see the point in saying "chaud." Dang, it was good. The heat stayed on my tongue for several minutes after I finished it, and it was a pleasant heat, not the sort that makes you cringe the next day when the food ends its journey through the body. I ordered a beef fajita quesadilla. It was different from most I've had, in that there were ingredients like peppers in it. The fajita meat was good, not great. The overall flavor was very good. The price was a dollar or so more than I expected to pay based on how the menu was written (any meat was quoted at a certain price and I had to pay more than that price). I figured it was just a misunderstanding about how to phrase things, so I let it slide. I will eat there again. There were several items I noticed on the menu after I had ordered that looked very interesting and I intend to try some of them. I still haven't found a Mexican restaurant on the Central Coast of California that compares to the best ones in Houston, but I'm going to continue to look. You know that you are in for a treat when you are served homemade chips that are fresh from the oil. Yummy! I've had some good Mexican food in my time, so I was excited when the fresh and spicy salsa hit the table. But that was the highlight of the night. My chile relleno was filled with seeds and had barely any cheese in it. My chicken tamale tasted like it came directly out of a box, went into the microwave, an had no identifiable chicken in it. And everything was covered in the most tasteless red sauce. I was really excited by the prospect of the restaurant and came away super disappointed. It does seem like the tacos may be made of fresher--non box and microwave--ingredients, so if you choose to eat here maybe try those. read more

I'm baffled by the 4 star reviews, we came here, because of them. We had a combo, chili rellano and taco. The rellano was one of the smallest and flattest, I've ever had and somewhat oily. The taco tasted like a fast food taco. The beans and rice were just ok. I love Mexican food and was really hungry and craving it. The restaurant itself is pretty dirty looking. Came into this place after the we found out the Mexican restaurant closer to our hotel was not accepting charge cards that day. Made the trek a little farther to Cambria Village and it was well worth it. The salsa, oh the salsa, so good, the chips were fresh still smoking and hot. Our food was definitely made to order, no hot plate preparation here. Everything was fresh, and so tasty. They accommodated a special order making a chile verde platter instead of a burrito. The meat was tender and chile was perfect (not too hot). I had a cheese enchilada and chicken flauta combo. This was the biggest flauta I have ever seen. The chicken was great, moist and flavorful. The enchilada was authentic, and the sauce was smoky and seemed to be a family recipe. (No canned salsa here). This is another new favorite for me, but also need to keep in mind they closed at 8, so next time we will go here first! read more

Nothing is a standout oh my god can't believe amazing, but if you're hungry and don't want to fuss, yes try this place. We were looking for a simple healthy restaurant in Cambria. What a find. Not at all part of the tourist strip of cafes and boutiques. Tucked into a tiny mini-mall, the restaurant was quiet and old-fashioned in a friendly, family way. The woman running the restaurant was warm, welcoming, answered all our questions. Great unlimited supply of chips and salsa! Fast and friendly service, the waitress was nice and bilingual, offering more chips and salsa whenever we ran out. Good prices relative to Cambria standards, and I think the only Mexican place in town. Try not to use the bathroom... not the nicest bathroom... My husband had a carne asada burrito and he said it was just "good", "normal". I had a chimichanga and I asked for one without chicken, only cheese and beans and they made it for me. It was good and big and came with guacamole on the side, like I asked. Good beer selection, specially of Mexican beers, of course. This was our second visit, pretty much the same as the last. The food is overpriced for what it is. The rice, beans and chips are tasteless. Salsa is heavy on onions, light on tomatoes. Service is slack faced and monotone. We won't return. We'll go to Cambria Cafe instead. read more

Very Very Good Mexican Food! I had the Shrimp Diablo (12.95), it came with beans/rice/corn tortillas/sour cream/guacamole/6 huge shrimp in a spicy sauce. My meal was very delicious! I will be returning in the future to order that meal again. My fiance had the carne asade combo burrito, the carne asade was very dry and not as tasteful as mine. Next time he will probably order something different than the carne asade. TIP: The restaurant is small, limited booths/seating. We sat outside at the bar stool table, until a booth was available (about 15 minutes and it was freezing!). If you arrive at the right time though there should be available seating. I noticed that a lot of people got their food take out, good choice when restaurant is packed. If sitting on the outdoor patio, they will not allow you to have beer, beer only allowed inside restaurant. read more

This place suprized me on how good their food was. So far from home, in an area that does not seem to have many mexicans, I was skeptical on how I would like this place. The food was very authentic, from the chips snd salsa all the way to the lighted toasted buttery bolio on the carnitas torta. The food was extremely flavorful, except for the beans (which is what I go for). This place deserves and has the potential of 5 stars if they improved on a few things. Soda tasted like it was poured into a glass from a flat can of soda. The beans had no salt. And the service wasnt attentive.
