Just stopped in on a Friday night and sat at the bar - at first glance it looks like a cluster so I'll will write the review as things progress. - cute and very busy pub / restaurant - there are only 2 servers and so far they are as attentive as possible for sure, both ladies are hustling with a smile. - We have watched 2 parties of 4 walk out. - We got our drinks right away and only waited a few minutes to get our order in. - While we waited I saw. (2 ) available 4- top tables open, but a party of 6 was told 30 minute wait. They declined and left. - A person came in asking for take out only to be told they were "inundated and not taking take out orders at this time." So far this is a management issue - these ladies were giving and needed 1 more server to keep them caught up- lots of business waking out the door due to poor scheduling- what a shame. One person behind the bar and 2 dining room servers would make this successful. It's too easy. - Food came out in a timely manner. Gary's pasta - 10/10 Clam chowder - 10/10 definitely homemade. My wedge- a little pricey but 8/10 only because the dressing came out clearly of a jar and no blue cheese crumbles. (Little things make a huge difference) - Moscow Marlin drink 10/10 - Another walk out. Lots of empty glasses at the bar. Would we come back? Only with these 2 servers. ( I think we got lucky) Definitely not on a Friday and If it's this much of a mess on a Friday, I can only imagine what a Saturday would look like. I have to say I was a little bit disappointed this time. I had a Reuben sandwich with onion rings. The pastrami was really tough, like you would take a bite, but you couldn't bite through it and so the whole piece of pastrami came out of the sandwich at once. And the onion rings were pretty boring. I don't think they make them there, I am not sure about that, though. But they had kind of a generic look and feel to them, but the problem was they had zero flavor. Like nobody put salt on them when they took them out of the fryer. That's the first thing you do when you pull something out of a fryer, you season it. The server was nice enough, but they have a thing now where if you ask for water, they want to sell you a bottle of water. I get that things are tough for restaurants, but I almost rather pay a little more for the sandwich and get water, if you know what I mean. I'm no food expert, or running a restaurant expert, these are just my reactions as a local who stops in here fairly regularly. I think if the folks who run this place feel like there's any value to my little thoughts, they would be easy to fix and wouldn't cost anything at all really. I've been coming here for years, and I want these folks to do well. read more

This is a bar with excellent food, including pasta, seafood, and the best clam chowder I have had this side of the Mississippi. Tip: Order a sandwich and get a cup of chowder instead of fries for $2. Note on the bottled water complaints: Bars make most of their money on drinks. There were so many kids and adults drinking bottled water here. Is this a SoCal thing? Maybe it's just me, but when I bring my kids to eat at a bar I let them drink soda. :) read more

The food was good, although we only came in for an appetizer. The sauteed mushrooms were really spectacular and the garlic bread was good. But the service was almost nonexistent. Had to ask for plates, water and the bartender thought a Jameson with a soda back was a Coke and a Jameson on the side. My wife did have an above average Bloody Mary. Had lunch at this quirky spot! This spot has cool and interesting decor along with some great music (not too loud). Service was attentive and friendly as soon as we walked in. We ordered a couple of local beers, a bowl of clam chowder, and the west end burger. Everything was pretty good. Service was very good. My husband got a French Dip. It was good but a little skimpy on the meat. I had blackened shrimp taco's. They really weren't blackened. Our server was Allie. She was personable, efficient and the perfect degree of attentive. The place has a huge range of beers on tap, many good wines on offer, and several cocktails. My husband had a delicious margarita, and after dinner I had a fabulous espresso chocolate martini. The food was delivered quickly and was delicious. My husband raved about his burger, and my turkey club sandwich was fresh and delightful. The place was jumping with happy energy. We hope to go again soon! read more

The food staff and location were excellent. The restaurant has enough seating inside and I love the bar feel to it. The staff is 10/10 so attentive and kind. I wanted to order something off the menu and they said if they have the ingredients they will make it for me! So I ordered the linguine Alfredo with a rib eye steak. We also ordered the coconut fried shrimp, clams, a halibut and sweet potatoes. They were so good! We also ordered beer. What happened? New owners? Staff? It was a WED night and they were busy and only one person serving. She tried but man a room full of people and the wait time was too long. The food: I had the clam chowder in the bread bowl. The bread was soft, and not baked. The last time I had it, the bread was crispy and buttered, and it tasted amazing. This time it was not so good. The clam chowder itself was average and OK. She had the fish and chips. The fish was overcooked and super salty and the fries were old and not as tasty. We were both really disappointed because the last time we were here this place was amazing. The service was on the spot. Loved our experience! We were greeted and sat by the owner and had a very nice chat. We had just been ignored I mean literally ignored at Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill! West Ends made up for it big time. We loved the ambiance. Totally a comfortable down home cozy local bar type of feel. My husband and I are absolutely versatile, but this is definitely our favorite element! I had the best Bloody Mary! We also ordered the calamari appetizer, a couple bowls of clam chowder, and the halibut and chips. All was delicious. We stopped in for lunch and found the food surprisingly good. The waitress was very sweet and attentive, handling the tables by herself. It's an older looking establishment. Hubby really liked his chicken sandwich. I tried the and fries. The fries were so crispy and delish and not greasy-oily. The cup of chowder was good but pretty standard. They did mess up on Hubby's order as he asked for potato salad with his sandwich and got Cole slaw but he decided to eat the Cole slaw instead and said it was good. They only serve bottled water which is weird, where you end up buying one of their Coke products if you don't want bottled water. There is a refill on the soda tho. read more

We stumbled upon this restaurant on a motorcycle trip up the 1. Second time in Cambria and we very happy we stopped. Bigger on the inside than it looks from outside. Their beer list was great! They have Pliny on draft. We got some clam chowder which was very good wings come naked which is how they should always come. And you can dip into whatever sauce the table wants. Home made potato chips. Halibut and chips. Give it all a shot! Nicest lady was running the joint. Had a spunky attitude and you could tell she cared. It's a small dine in pub that is family friendly. Had the fish and shrimp tacos and both were huge when compared to street tacos. The sauce is spicy for those that might not like it too spicy. You can ask for it on the side and put it your pleasure. Also had the pesto pasta which was good and creamy. We also had the chipotle pasta with shrimp and sausage. Also great with a little sweetness and spicy. The spice can be done to your pleasure. We had the clam chowder which was great! If you have had splash cafe in Pismo, it's very similar to their clam chowder. The service was ok as my clam chowder showed up with our food. I think they forgot to bring it out until I asked for it. What a gem in Cambria...My visit to the West End Bar was such a pleasant surprise. The owner, I'm pretty sure her name was Vicky, was absolutely wonderful. She made fantastic drinks, and even more than that, she had such a sweet, sweet disposition that made us feel right at home. You can tell she genuinely cares about her guests. But the real star of the show was the clam chowder. Hands down the best I've ever had in my life....seriously. It was so good that I went to the famed Sea Chest down the road to compare, and honestly, it didn't even come close. We decided to try this place for a late lunch/early dinner. After being greeted then seated almost immediately, we were pleased to see a wide selection of sandwiches, appetizers, and entrees. They also offer a variety of beers and are conveniently written on a board near the bar. It was a friendly vibe and we received friendly and prompt service throughout our meal. We chose this place as it popped up on Yelp and looked to have more food that we would enjoy versus the lodge that we were staying at. And the pricing was half the cost. It's right on Main Street and has a cozy down home feeling. I called ahead and they placed a reserved sign on a table for us. The table we got was a bit small and squished next to another, so I had to squeeze in as to not hit the neighboring patron. The service was alright, it seemed like it took a while to get the bill but there were just 2 nice ladies running the bar and dinning room. I had the fish and chips which was fresh cod and most likely package fries But they were hot and crisp.
