I have been here a handful of times and the staff is always super kind and attentive. The service given is always above and beyond from all staff, especially the front reception team. Everyone here genuinely cares about the animals. They are honest about what they think is necessary and when they think you can hold off on certain things. My dog got x-rays and they failed to send me results after I called various times and was told they would send me results. I had to physically come back into the clinic after trying to get a hold of my results. Not only that, the xray machine wasn't working and they failed to tell us that until after they charged it. I came here to get my Dog checked because he ate a piece of fabric. Firstly, the customer service is horrible here. The girls upfront are rude and very slow and they are NOT professional. I waited in the room for 2 hours with no update. I waited for 9 days for my X ray results, when I was told I would get my results the same day. I called various times the girls said they would send me my results for about 9 days I still never got anything, until I personally had to come in get them in person, 9 days later. Not only that, the Xray machine was broken and they failed to mention that but they were quick to charge me 935$. Please DO NOT COME HERE! If you care about your pets. I don't often review but when I do it's typically an unpleasant experience. In this case, I am happy to say this was a fantastic experience in a terrible situation. The staff and doctors here saved my little dog. A few weeks ago my pup was attacked by my boyfriends dog. Realistically she had a50% chances which I was told at 2am the day it happened after the doctor did life saving surgery. She had many puncture wounds that couldn't be closed and a large wound separating her shoulder which needed a drain to help prevent infection. Unfortunately within two days there was a bad infection and not enough time for the sample of bacteria to come back for new antibiotics. The doctor on staff that night came in and told me it was bad but if she had a lot of work chances were pretty good of survival and if it were her dog she'd keep going. I was hesitant after trusting an emergency vet with my other dog years ago after an attack, resulting in him eventually going blind and almost dying from a brain infection that was treatable had they listened to me. These doctors listened to everything I had to say, were honest and thorough. In a bad situation, you never know if it'll be ok with the injuries she had but it helped to have a great staff and doctors to trust with care. Finally, the surgeon doctor terry closed her wound with a 3rd surgery and within days she was walking on her front leg and healing completely. Their treatment plan was cautious and comprehensive. She still isn't walking on her hind leg but we are planning to assess in one week and do an ACL surgery if needed. Overall, had I taken my dog to a different er vet it may have ended tragically. The wait was longer than you'd like and at first unsettling but they do treat by priority and knew she wasn't at risk of dying night one. To help comfort her during the long wait they gave pain meds and comfortable waiting place. Secondly, for all the work she had needed and several surgeries it is affordable. More affordable than many normal vet visits have been. Thank you to the staff and doctors here for helping molly survive and continuing to give her great care as she recovers. read more

Had a scare with our other boxer where his eyelid had become completely swollen and red. We suspected it was a bee sting, but were worried about it possibly being an abscess. Tried to get into our regular vet and was left on hold twice, so we made our way over to the ER. The staff was great with getting us checked in. Still took a bit to be seen by the doctor, but totally understandable. She was able to confirm there was no foreign body in the eye and no abscess, just was most likely stung by a wasp. Little guy was given some anti inflammatory medication and the swelling came down 2 days later. We really appreciate the time and care that the entire staff gave to him while he was there. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could.This is the WORST place EVER!!! We took one of our dogs there with suspected rattlesnake bite, & it was determined as such, we proceeded with the anti venom treatment, when asked about how the treatments work, what to expect, we got the quote of 4-5 THOUSAND DOLLARS! Seemed like a really big number, when we asked about how the price is broken down and why it's was so high, all we got was that the antidote runs anywhere from $400.-800. dollars a vial and depends on how many vials it would take, and then they watch them & vitals for a period of time to as a precaution, we still didn't get how that = $4-5,000.00. In the mean time we had another dog that potentially had the exact same thing, took him in when picking her up after her treatment, & asked if they could tell us if they believed he was bitten too & needed the same treatment, his symptoms were: swollen face, very tender to the lightest touch, and one puncture wound (we felt it was very clear he had) & they refused to tell us wether he needed it or not, REFUSED, because they wanted us to book him an appointment before telling us their recommendation, all we wanted to know is a YES or NO, they wanted the money $$$ that's all they cared about, we didn't want treatment for free we just wanted to know if he needed it, we are not Vets, clearly neither are they!! They had a dog in their ER & REFUSED to tell us if he NEEDED treatment, didn't care a bit about him & his LIFE!! To our suprise we found another 24Hr. ER animal hospital, in Layton, MOUNTAIN WEST VETERINARY SPECIALISTS, ran him there, in minutes they heard the full events of how we ended up there, accessed his condition & symptoms and in minutes (because they are good vets) they said "Yes, absolutely this is a rattlesnake bite & he needs treatment ASAP!" he has stage 3 kidney failure, hes 10, & its going on 9 hours since the bite, & they are saying the odd's are stacking against him and the clock ticks, he's in the ICU now, fighting, & the cost of his treatment with hospital stay & anti venom treatment $1500.00!!! This place cares about NOTHING but $$$ and their fat profits, all my dogs are rescues with special needs, WE are DOG/ANIMAL people, WE would do anything to save a life, & NEVER hesitate to do so! Charge you for absolutely everything they can. They charged me twice for X-rays for my dog. They misdiagnosed my dog and told me I should put him down. Ended up paying them $2,000. For nothing. Went to a normal vet. The vet did more than what MedVet did in 10 hours, in 45 minutes. Gave me the correct medication for my dog and two days later he's basically back to normal. Charged me $140. They are a joke. The vet kept getting frustrated with me because I was telling her she was wrong and you could tell she was holding her words back cause she didn't want to get into trouble. This place has been unreliable from the get go. Starting with last year or so when my dog had a sever back injury. They didn't have time for him and we were turned away. This dog was in major pain it didn't matter. Other vets have described his back as it's unbelievable that he isn't paralyzed. So strike one. Strike two miss diagnoses on blood on his rectum. Strike three blood dripped out of his rectum and they are so under staffed and busy that it was a 3 hour wait that was turning into a 6 to 7 hour wait. We left found better care at mountain west vet in layton. Being under staffed leeds to poor quality care and to top it off they charge hundreds more than other ers. Bottom line do yourself a favor and go some were else. Your wallet and your pets will thank you. read more

My cat (6) was missing bout 2 weeks. There have been sightings of rattlesnakes right up the street from me so I've been in a panic. Sure as hell he showed up two nights ago skinny and a huge swollen cheek. So I borrow the $125 for him to be treated emergency. After 21/2 hrs they took his temp. Another hour later said it was high. Then another hour Here apply for credit they say. So got turned down of course cuz I'm a loser. Then they left us for another hour after saying they would clean him up and probably give him meds. No by now I'm fed up. Get ready to leave and Instead of taking $125 they charge me $140 no meds still no cleaning shot nada a thing. I took my doggie here because I had done everything possible to make his life tolerable. It was late on Friday night and they had emergencies going on. I was there sobbing to have my best friend put down. From the office, to the techs, to the doctor, they were extremely kind and compassionate. Heads up, this will not be a pleasant review. And let's get one thing out of the way--I am no Karen by any means. Frustration. So much frustration with this vet hospital! To be fair, I do not speak to their character or demeanor as I did not specifically work with them, my husband did. He said they appeared kind and caring, but here's my frustration. They did not communicate at all and left us hanging. SIX HOURS and WE had to call THEM twice in between that time frame to get any kind of word on what the status was. I get it, critical takes precedence and with one vet on call that will take some time. SIX HOURS waiting around, though? Not to mention, I feel they did some unnecessary steps for what his laceration needed. He wasn't dying. They ran bloodwork when we asked not to. Were they sweet to him. Probably. Did they take care of him? Not really. The stitches came out, if there even were stitches to begin with. I couldn't tell because I was so frustrated and bleary eyed from not going to bed till 2:30am. They didn't even WRAP IT OR BANDAGE IT. The next day, I didn't see stitches and his wound was open again. Thinking they pulled out even though we followed instructions. $500 later and I'm now having to spend more money to get it fixed properly. Want to know the difference? Final price for current treatment is $155.12 and he's fixed up, BANDAGED and ready to go after only 2 hours max with 2 phone call updates and one from the vet himself! This also included critical patients cause I inquired. Message me if you want to know who to go to next time. Hard pass MedVet. You got my arm, I'll keep my leg. We took our sweet Marley here when she suddenly went lethargic, vomiting, and was struggling with every breath. We thought she had passed on the way there but was still alive when they were waiting for her and put her on the gurney. They immediately took her back. When the vet came in the room and told us he was very sorry but she had passed he also told us WHY she passed and he wasn't charging us for finding out WHY she passed away. She had a tumor on her heart (which we didn't know) that ruptured causing a pericardial effusion. Thinking your dog is healthy and they die suddenly is very traumatic. They helped ease this traumatic event for us, and to top it off the Urn and paw print we ordered were so beautiful! He has sepsis, you say? Again do you think falling after bowel surgery had anything to do with that? My senior guy had a series of emergencies over the last 48 hours and I have been here three times. Tuesday night, Wednesday night and then this morning and each time the staff was amazing. The night staff was amazing and so welcoming and helpful. They treated my Koda with such compassion and I had no doubt he was in great hands. They even remembered him the second night and took him right back and the doctors each time were very caring and took the time to explain the best course of action. The day staff this morning was equally as helpful and caring, from reception to the techs and the doctor. The doctor took her time to explain everything in great detail and helped me understand the situation much more clearly. This veterinarian hospital is great. One of my dogs has had skin allergies since she was a pup and always scratching herself. Because of this scratching she got a nasty ear infection. We took her to Medvet because they have a dermatologist there that is awesome. She prescribed meds to clear up the ear infection within two weeks. On a follow up visit, she gave my dog an allergy shot and some special shampoo to help with her scratching. Now she doesn't scratch at all and seems more happy. I took my other dog there because he had large lumps in his neck and was not eating well and losing a lot of weight. They examined him and found all his lymphnodes where enlarged and determined he probably had lymphoma cancer. The vet was very kind and explained our options for treatment or ways to help him be comfortable for a little longer life. We didn't want him to suffer any longer, so we decided it was his time to go. They staff and the vet were so kind and caring and are little sweet doggie went so quick and peaceful. read more

Our cat at 1:30 am started having extreme breathing problems. I called MedVet North hoping they could advise us on how to help our cat. First of all I was greeted on the phone by Shannon who was so kind and caring. She said we should bring our cat in and they would evaluate him and see what they could do. When we arrived Shannon greeted us at the door and immediately went into action taking our cat to be immediately evaluated by Dr.Massey. The staff of Shannon, Dr Massey and Triston(security) showed such compassion to us when we were so emotionally upset about our cat's condition. Dr Massey calmly explained our cat's prognosis and her thought process in coming to our cat's diagnosis. She patiently let us make the right decision on what to do which was to ultimately relieve our cat of his pain and let him go. Thank you MedVet North for having this excellent staff! read more

Super unfriendly and not great with my dog or my partner trying to deal with difficult circumstances. When working with animals in a critical or traumatic situation I understand it's high stress but bringing negative energy affects the animal and their human. The wait was long, which we anticipated and were fine with. Our animal required some extra care while we were waiting and their solution was not at all helpful or beneficial for our dog who was already super stressed. No other options were given by the not at all friendly technician. We chose to take our animal for treatment elsewhere. There are other emergency vet options in our area. As a side note the woman working the front desk was the only redeeming thing about this place. She was absolutely overworked but still personable in an impossible environment. read more

I took my dog in on a Saturday. No where else was open. She had mucous and blood in her stool. I brought a fresh sample and IT WASNT TESTED! Instead, they asked for blood panel and wanted to do an xray and urine sample. ( I declined the X-ray and urine sample ( for parasites?) Nothing was broken ! Did my own research and contacted a vet tech friend & determined she had a parasite. I put her on Panacur and by the next morning she was feeling much better. so.., instead of checking the stool sample which was all that was wrong with her, ran inconclusive other tests and ran up a very pricey bill. Brought my 7 year old Chihuahua mix here a year ago he was having difficulty walking and was crying when ever he was touched on his back as if he was in pain the staff were very quick to get him back even with all of the regulations due to Covid it took them about 30 to 45 minutes to find out what was wrong it turns out he had a ruptured disc in his spinal column the only way to fix this was through extensive surgery however there was no guarantee that he would walk afterwards and it would be a very long road for him so after talking with the vet on call and discussing all of the treatments available I came to the hard decision to say goodbye and have him humanely euthanized the staff was very understanding and very compassionate and I was able to hold him the entire time while they put him to sleep and then they left the room and I was allowed time with him to say goodbye. read more

This place is really lacking some SERIOUS people skills. It's really unfortunate. I will try my best to be brief, but bare with me. I didn't have any other vet surgeon options because all other hospitals were booked out because of COVID, so I had to go here, but if you have other options, go elsewhere. I understand that their jobs are difficult & stressful, BUT...I have never in my life experienced such a nightmare group of people. First off, any time I tried to ask any questions, every person I spoke with was defensive. I didn't understand this because I never once gave them any indication that I would be THAT person who yells at someone who is just trying to do their job. It started off with the surgical coordinator Jenny being so uncooperative. It wasn't until I got a 3rd party involved that she ATTEMPTED to help out her patient. It's like she didn't care about helping her patient, at all. I had asked her to fill out a grant packet & gave her an entire WEEK to respond (LITERALLY 4 CLICKS & a signature) and she straight up said she was too busy & couldn't do it because she "was on the phone all day" working to help me. I am still not sure whether she is super incompetent or just doesn't care. (Probably the latter) Pretty sure she also hung up on me at one point. My dog had a leg amputation and was sent home with improper instructions and was in intolerable pain for days due to their negligence. They failed to email me the post-surgery instructions the night prior to his discharge as they said they would. The instructions they sent home said to remove pressure bandages present on the extremeities in 1 hour. We removed what we thought was that an hour after coming home. We later learned that the sticky bandage we removed was his fentanyl patch and shouldn't have been removed for four days. NO ONE EXPLAINED THIS TO ME AND NO WHERE IN THE INSTRUCTIONS DOES IT EVEN MENTION THIS. You sent a dog with a leg amputation home with INACCURATE INSTRUCTIONS. But they NEVER failed to email, call or text me/practically harass me on instructions on how to pay my invoice. After the amputation surgery, I took my dog in because he was crying nonstop. He was examined by a doctor who said "everything was fine" but then proceeded to ask me why I had posted such a negative survey result. Turned out my dog was crying because he had an infection. I ended up explaining myself, but like how did she miss the infection?!?!? Another thing that left a bad taste in my mouth was Dr. Terry told me he would call me "the second" he got my dog's lab results back. But he didn't and of course, I had to call HIM, which he then told me he had "partial" results. Then the next day, magically & pretty quickly he received the other part of the lab results. I don't think he knew that I had records/copy of my dog's lab results and I saw the date he received the results 2 days before calling me. Why lie about this? So pointless. I would have understood if he said "we have been super busy & stressed, sorry I didn't call you". Oh and every time I spoke w/ the doctor, it was like pulling teeth. Maybe if it wasn't such a difficult process of communicating w/ him, the outcome may have been different. Maybe I would have decided not to do the amputation. But, at least my dog isn't in pain now, so I can't blame Dr. T too much. I am not writing this review to get anyone in trouble or to be vindictive, I just want to save someone else from experiencing a headache/never ending nightmare that I went through. Stay away from chain "speciality hospitals" because they are overpriced and are essentially looking to make a buck off of sick animals. Do yourself a favor, and try to find another vet or hospital that's owned locally, if possible. read more

Because they are so scared of covid they forgot common human courtesy and respect. They left their hearts at the door. They made us hand over our dying dog in the cold weather when she needed us most in the parking lot!!!! The compassion during the whole process was ZERO and their only concern was that the cleaning crew continued which was not peaceful at all and that we had our masks on!!! They pray on people who will do whatever it takes to treat their fur baby. I took my cat last night. We dropped him off around 10pm and had to call several times for updates. Which they gave me the run around saying that they were examine him and would let me know. At 1 am they called to let me know that the doc recommended surgery and blood work which would be 750 $ or up to 950. I had asked them if they had given him fluids or anything for pain in the 3 hrs he had been there. The nurse had the audacity to say they were waiting for me to authorize it. When I had already called 3+ times for an update and not once did they say anything about needing authorization. I would have told them please do both. So she said she would need to talk to the doc again and call me back. At 1:40 am. They call back and I told them I would follow up in the morning with his reg vet. She seemed irritated but said ok. She said they would give him so fluids and something for the pain while I was on my way to get him. They lied and didn't give him any fluids!!! But charged me for it anyway. Shame on all that work there. Your moral compasses are seriously way off . I hope that this place gets investigated. Never will I ever go back here and I hope that this will maybe make someone think twice before they take their precious fur babies. read more

I won't drag this out. You can read any and all of the reviews and see a very consistent trend. DO NOT TAKE YOU PET HERE!!!! My dog was bleeding all over there waiting room and they said " have a seat. It will be 8-10 hours" . 8 hours later after I throw a temper tantrum they put a bandage on my dog and gave him a zpac. The time is what killed me. 8-10 hours before being spoke too???? I asked if I could go home and run back because I live 10-15 mins from there and I was told no and I'd lose my spot in line. Everyone in there had been there 5,8,10 hours. Finally when I said just give me my dog and bill so I can leave, then someone wanted to take time. It was another hour to just give me my bill. That only happened when I said you have 5 mins to take my credit card then you can take me to small claims court for your money. 3 minutes later the transaction was completed. A friend of mine said this about the place and it fit so well I'm stealing it. Their business model is to prey on people at one of their lowest points. You are already freaked out, then they leave you waiting and worrying for hours and hours until you are mentally , emotionally, and physically broken down. They they give you bad news and a highly inflated bill hoping that you just say yes please do whatever needs to be done. All of that seemed about right. Terrible terrible terrible. Shame on them as people and a business. I would like to apologize to the poor young ladies up front that got to deal with me. I know it wasn't their faults. They were doing their jobs to the best of their ability but just happen to be doing it for terrible people. I'm sorry to them for being overly emotional. We took our dog Blackjack in on an emergency basis because he had fallen off a bed for no apparent reason and appeared to be dazed and very lethargic. I was an absolute crying mess. The welcoming staff were very pleasant and immediately took our dogs vitals. The office was very crowded with what appeared to be pets in need. For an emergency vet, it was not an unreasonable time to wait and it was obvious if a pet was in crisis or need, the staff got right to them. They were professional and compassionate. Dr. Daniel met with us and was extremely patient with me and explained all tests including an ultrasound to ensure that there was no internal bleeding. Prior to anything being done, he politely asked my permission and authorization. Costs were explained and medical options were provided. He allowed me to stay in the examination room and watch him perform the test on my dog. He located a ruptured spleen, internal bleeding and a mass on the spleen. He offered a course of action which was emergency spleen removal to be performed within the next hour or 2. He continued to be very compassionate and let me try and digest what he was saying. I was in a complete panic and the vet nurse/tech, I wish I could remember her name but I was an emotional mess (a young, thin blonde gal with some arm tattoos)was extremely kind to us and we felt like they were going to do everything they could to save my dogs life. We left our pet of 13 years with them and the gal said the Dr. would call directly after surgery. He did! He continued to be very kind in explaining what he did and advised me that Dr. Scherk would call me in the morning between 9-11am to give us an update. Dr. Scherk called precisely at 9am and was just as kind, compassionate and informative. We went to visit our dog that day and met Dr. Scherk, who was just as wonderful as he was on the phone. He stated that if we hadn't brought our dog in when we did, he would have bled out. We got to take him home after 2 days to wait for the test results on the mass that was removed. He advised us we would have the results in 7-10 days. This morning, on a Sunday, day 7, at 9am he called with the good news! No cancer! Most of this experience has been a blur of emotions but I feel we were very lucky to have chosen to go to this emergency vet and to receive the doctors we did along with the staff. This place was a joke. I understand that things can get busy, but it absolutely absurd that they tell you it's first come first serve in the ER, but then will have you sitting there for 2 to 3 hours, and not even see the doctor. Do yourself a favor, don't waste your money here because they will rake you over the coals and nickel and dime you. I'm surprised they didn't charge me for breathing the air in the building after reviewing the receipt. The doctor did not seem to care about me and my concerns about my pet. The staff was extremely off putting when talking to them and they made me feel like I was wasting their time when I would ask questions to help clarify things. There was clearly a reason why the parking lot was empty when I parked and it's because these people do not care. The customer service was horrible and I doubt it will be corrected, but I at least hope someone will read this and I can save you the time, money and frustration. I never send reviews or bad remarks even when things are very wrong, there are times when I've not gotten things I've paid for, and I still don't complain, but this is a horrible place to take your animal! They are the only place near open on weekends that is not almost an hour away. I hate writing a bad review but this needs to be heard! We brought our dog in for emergency issues as he was breathing heavily, lethargic, diarrhea the whole nine yards and I get there and they tell us it is a 4-5 hour wait - which is fine I get it, and tbh they did take him right away because of his breathing which I was thankful for and put him on oxygen, however there was no communication through out the time I was there - when I asked them what going on or how long it can be, I kept getting an answer of it won't be long! But then 2 hours go by and again I'm appeased with the same answer! I was there 8 hours!! for them to come in and ask me to have him stay overnight for observation after making it sound as though he's bad but only "a little worse then I would like" but it sounds like to me ok I can manage and not that bad, plus they wanted to charge me $6k for the night stay. I declined as I was familiar with my dogs issue for most part and felt I could handle it- but they advise me I have to come back again in morning to re- test, on my way out they tell me how good my dog was and how mild mannered he was and then told me they had been so busy that day that while he was on oxygen he had been near the "death table" and had been super busy that unfortunately he had witnessed several euthanasias!! I was horrified and came home crying - I was under the understanding my baby had been fighting for his life and sat there watching them kill his fellow mates. The next day we went back as required and once again there for hours just asking or wanting answers- instead they tell us we have very few options - we keep him there or euthanize him - I go off on them and say I won't have my dog stay or be put down by these people and tell them about my experience and what I was told where I was told it was a complete lie what I was told about the euthanasia table and his experience - that when is done, it is done with respect ...yada, yada.. I don't trust them! So we took him home and getting another opinion and if we still must put him down - we will- but in our home with a vet that will come to us - as there was never any kind words or empathy, or sympathy, and there was little communication - and when it was given it was given with very little disregard to our feelings or even wallet - because don't worry they have a plan you can pay it with - made us feel we have very little choices, I felt hopeless leaving there like my dog had no chance and I'm a bad person for not wanting to be there a second later even though it had been another 6+ hours. read more

I had to rush my Bella girl to this emergency vet because she had punctured my inhaler. They quickly took her back and got her vitals and checked everything. They were very open about what was going on and decided to keep her for 24 hour watch to make sure everything was okay. They were so sweet and compassionate as i was bawling my eyes out. After leaving the facility the night ICU nurse sent me pictures and an update on how Bella was doing. Went in tonight to get my dog looked at after having trouble breathing, shaking uncontrollably, vomiting and collapsed on the floor. We brought her in at 5 and no one else was there it took two hours just for someone to come talk to us. Then after the Doctor came in for 5 minutes she left for another hour and a half just to come back and see what we wanted to do. Then after changing us for blood draws they took ANOTHER 2 hours to even get my dog and tell us the results. When we ask what was taking so long they said they had to put a dog down( yes the is very sad) but they can in 3 hours AFTER we were there!!
