The puppy they helped

All of the staff here is amazing check in went smooth the vet tech came out and took my dogs vitals after 6 mins of waiting. The veterinarian working glued my pups open wound shut and less than 10 mins later we got to go home. Thank you to everyone working you made my dog and I very happy .

I don't often review but when I do it's typically an unpleasant experience. In this case, I am happy to say this was a fantastic experience in a terrible situation. The staff and doctors here saved my little dog. A few weeks ago my pup was attacked by my boyfriends dog. Realistically she had a50% chances which I was told at 2am the day it happened after the doctor did life saving surgery. She had many puncture wounds that couldn't be closed and a large wound separating her shoulder which needed a drain to help prevent infection. Unfortunately within two days there was a bad infection and not enough time for the sample of bacteria to come back for new antibiotics. The doctor on staff that night came in and told me it was bad but if she had a lot of work chances were pretty good of survival and if it were her dog she'd keep going. I was hesitant after trusting an emergency vet with my other dog years ago after an attack, resulting in him eventually going blind and almost dying from a brain infection that was treatable had they listened to me. These doctors listened to everything I had to say, were honest and thorough. In a bad situation, you never know if it'll be ok with the injuries she had but it helped to have a great staff and doctors to trust with care. Finally, the surgeon doctor terry closed her wound with a 3rd surgery and within days she was walking on her front leg and healing completely. Their treatment plan was cautious and comprehensive. She still isn't walking on her hind leg but we are planning to assess in one week and do an ACL surgery if needed. Overall, had I taken my dog to a different er vet it may have ended tragically. The wait was longer than you'd like and at first unsettling but they do treat by priority and knew she wasn't at risk of dying night one. To help comfort her during the long wait they gave pain meds and comfortable waiting place. Secondly, for all the work she had needed and several surgeries it is affordable. More affordable than many normal vet visits have been. Thank you to the staff and doctors here for helping molly survive and continuing to give her great care as she recovers.

I took my doggie here because I had done everything possible to make his life tolerable. It was late on Friday night and they had emergencies going on. I was there sobbing to have my best friend put down. From the office, to the techs, to the doctor, they were extremely kind and compassionate. As horrible as this experience was, they made it as good as they could. They put a beautiful quote on the box and wonderful paw and nose prints on paper. I felt like they cared about me and my dog. I just want to thank them for how they perform their job.

Proper service from ANOTHER vet and wrapped as it SHOULD have been but wasn't. Service NOT provided by MEDVET.

Heads up, this will not be a pleasant review. And let's get one thing out of the way--I am no Karen by any means. Frustration. So much frustration with this vet hospital! To be fair, I do not speak to their character or demeanor as I did not specifically work with them, my husband did. He said they appeared kind and caring, but here's my frustration. They did not communicate at all and left us hanging. SIX HOURS and WE had to call THEM twice in between that time frame to get any kind of word on what the status was. I get it, critical takes precedence and with one vet on call that will take some time. SIX HOURS waiting around, though? Not to mention, I feel they did some unnecessary steps for what his laceration needed. He wasn't dying. They ran bloodwork when we asked not to. Were they sweet to him. Probably. Did they take care of him? Not really. The stitches came out, if there even were stitches to begin with. I couldn't tell because I was so frustrated and bleary eyed from not going to bed till 2:30am. They didn't even WRAP IT OR BANDAGE IT. The next day, I didn't see stitches and his wound was open again. Thinking they pulled out even though we followed instructions. $500 later and I'm now having to spend more money to get it fixed properly. Want to know the difference? Final price for current treatment is $155.12 and he's fixed up, BANDAGED and ready to go after only 2 hours max with 2 phone call updates and one from the vet himself! This also included critical patients cause I inquired. Message me if you want to know who to go to next time. Hard pass MedVet. You got my arm, I'll keep my leg. One star for them being pleasant, according to my husband, and I'll be kind to give another star as props for keeping my dog alive.

We took our sweet Marley here when she suddenly went lethargic, vomiting, and was struggling with every breath. We thought she had passed on the way there but was still alive when they were waiting for her and put her on the gurney. They immediately took her back. When the vet came in the room and told us he was very sorry but she had passed he also told us WHY she passed and he wasn't charging us for finding out WHY she passed away. She had a tumor on her heart (which we didn't know) that ruptured causing a pericardial effusion. Thinking your dog is healthy and they die suddenly is very traumatic. They helped ease this traumatic event for us, and to top it off the Urn and paw print we ordered were so beautiful! Thank you for taking care of our sweet baby in her time of need we are so thankful you were there for us!

Horrible place. Made me drive back several times with empty promises only to deny my dog. Wasted effort. Shame on this place

They girl at the front desk will not even allow me to tell her what is going on before she says the vet is to busy and handing me a list of other places to go. I could understand the busy excuse if it happened once but three different times is ridiculous. Don't label your company as an emergency service if you're not going to help all animals in need Or provide emergency service. So unprofessional. My recommendation is advance veterinary clinic on 3300 south and about 1000 east. The vet techs and doctors there are absolutely amazing and I've never been turned away no matter how busy. If you care about your pets steer clear of this place.

She started to have extreme trouble breathing tonight and was in a miserable state, so I drove her over there after midnight. She was at the end stages and I had to make the hard choice to end her suffering as humanely as possible. Staff was absolutely kind and understanding and let me spend time with her before, during, and after the procedure. She died very peacefully. I am so grateful for the professionalism and compassion at the Pet Emergency Room. My heart is broken but at least the suffering is over for my dear kitty who I have loved and cared for since the day she was born.

They were able to get us in same day unlike other vets when we knew she had cancer. They also took us same day 3 weeks later when we said our goodbyes. The room was spacious. Although the carpet was really wet and we had to ask for an extra blanket to sit on so we could be with our dog during her last minutes. As I write this I'm tearing up inside remembering her last moments with our family. My husband paid to have her ashes boxed up and her paw print memorialized. It was done beautifully and personally hand delivered to our door by someone. That last touch of the hand delivery really made me appreciate this facility and while I hope not to have to use them again soon, I wouldn't hesitate.

We had an emergency situation and I called both VCA Cottonwood and the new VCA Sugarhouse urgent care. We were on both wait lists, but unfortunately, their texting wait list service utilizes the same number. When I received a message saying it was time for us to come in for our emergency appointment, I thought it was for the Sugarhouse location, but it was for Cottonwood. This was confusing and upsetting and took extra time canceling our wait list time at one location and figuring out who had a space earlier than the other. After the confusion with the texting system, I drove over to Cottonwood, but since we had not been there for awhile, did not realize the ER was in a building and parking lot next to the original VCA. This building is newer and has other offices inside besides just the ER. It is clean and bright and most of the people we encountered during our visit were helpful and understanding. Dr. Larson was calm, understanding, and caring and spent time discussing different options for our situation and recommendations for care. I felt that my dog was well cared for, loved and shown compassion during such a stressful time. I also love the dog yoga zen sculpture at the entrance.
