He sliced my lip open! This is the most unpleasant cleaning and fill, I have ever received in my life. He was very rough and used very old machines and tools which his dental assistant said they hate. The metal piece was extremely sharp and he didn't handle any tool with care so that caused my lip to slice open and bleed for 2 days. He and his dentist assistant seem to have aggregation and hinted as if they weren't getting along and that all leads point to Dr Noorani being a bit aggressive towards his employees. This experience was awful. My wife also said he was intrusive and way to rough as well we won't be going here again! read more

I made an appointment for cleaning, as I read great reviews. My previous dentist went out of business and I surfed for a good one. First of all, dr Noorani was one of the unfriendliest dentists I dealt with. He didn't even introduce himself when he came in the room where his assistant (a nice lady called Rosha) was prepping me. Ok, I was there for a good job. He made the cleaning himself (about less than 15 minutes of actual work). He finished and left the room. I looked at myself in the mirror and I saw that I was basically as I was before he started, with still some plaque built up in between my front teeth. When I told him, he basically said that my insurance covers only this type of cleaning! Really?? What kind of BS is that?? He even had the NERVES to tell me that if I wanted a better teeth cleaning I should make another appointment in order to order a sleep apnea device (which I had asked informations about) he would have "scraped" them a little more!.. The worst experience ever. Dr. Noormani is rude and his attitude affects everyone in that office like a plague. Sadly the dental assistant there to help me today at my appointment was very nice to me and understood when I said I only wanted X-rays and no cleanings because I am in the dental hygiene program and we are soon going to be doing cleanings on each other which is why I cannot get a cleaning. The Dr also was violating so many OSHA regulations such as not having his mask on while doing an exam on me and pretty much spitting on my face while doing the exam and talking to me and as well as violating HIPPA as he started talking about a patient and their personal procedure and health over the phone right in front of me. The nice dental assistant lady has to put up with it and she was the only reason why I even had a bit of a good experience here. He took a lot of time to repair what I had broken. He is very patient and spends time to make his work as perfect as possible. I was very pleased. So this dentist also told me my insurance only pays like $70 or $80 for my visit and it's hardly worth his time.  I saw someone else commented on this too.  The thing is I understand completely but he shouldn't accept our insurance and then complain about it!  So I said to him, that's a lot of money for a half hour of work.  He said it doesn't cover his cost but proceeded to make me feel better about the situation and told me it's OK.  So should I go back there?  I feel funny now if my insurance is not taking care of him.  In general, the office is clean and nice I thought.  This dentist is old school and talks a lot I thought though aside from the insurance thing.  He cleaned my teeth and took x-rays well enough so that worked out. Experience was fine - with notable caveats. I chose to see Dr Noorani after reading all the good reviews about him, and while I only had basic cleaning done, it may interest you to note some observations. THE PROS: 1. It's a private practice at a great location in midtown. Thankfully it's not a "timeshare farm" where people who run the office (not the dentists) book way too many patients. 2. It seems he does all the dental work himself from start to finish. 3. Both he and his assistant were active with patient paperwork and follow up phone calls (surprisingly, he's the one that took my call for an appointment - on his off day.) 4. Gave good advice. He took xrays and ran simple tests (using compressed air, taps against my teeth, etc) before advising me on how things would proceed. So far we're doing well. THE CONS: 1. Constant up-sell When he wasn't playing doctor, it was like listening to a corporate sales exec. While I valued his advice, he'd be recommending this and that product without any real discussion such as - Did I really need it? Could I take preventative measures instead? Any alternative options? (take teeth whitening. For me, not important. But he kept pushing for an appointment to make that sale.) 2. Lost focus in the final step. I could sense he wasn't paying close attention as I felt him rushing through the fluoride/paste. I spit out several chunks of unused pink paste as I rinsed. Not the best job I've had done to my teeth. 3. This office uses Zocdoc, which is a third party service for calendaring and "selected" feedback. While the system they use isn't any of my business, I never gave them (Zocdoc) permission to contact me via endless texts (the day before to confirm, followed immediately by another to go online to confirm, then to register personal info. This same procedure was repeated the next day - just NO.) Thankfully, there's an opt-out link you can click on. 4. Equipment not at 100% A minor niggle; the tap for rinse water didn't seem to work. It was odd seeing the doc fill the rinse cup from a listerine bottle. Bonus quirk - the good doctor would pick random moments to sip his coffee - even while scaling teeth. He'd stop all of a sudden and you'd look up... to see him take a sip from his cup before continuing on. Something fun for morning clients to behold. It's like "huh? Is something the matter... oh, never mind - you need your caffeine." SO... All in all, the visit was fine for a first time checkup. Dr Noorani offered sound assessment for the health of my teeth (though the sales push was too much for my liking.) Maybe times have changed - I've read previous reviews talk about "fun conversations" with this doctor, but most of those are dated from years past. With me, he mostly kept to himself and showed little interest in talking outside of the business at hand (or concerning teeth products.) To be honest, I think I shared more empathy with his assistant - but that's just me. read more

Painless. I've been terrified to go to the dentist and have put off it for almost 10 years. When I came to Dr.Noorani my mouth was in very bad condition. He helped me understand the importance to fix my teeth and explained everything that's needed to be done. He absolutely made me feel silly to not have gone to the dentist in so long. My husband went to Dr. Noorani today after reading all the positive reviews. When he was in the dental chair the dentist told him that his copay would be $33 instead of the $18 that the insurance company specifies. When my husband asked why, the dentist said for "sterilization fees." When my husband questioned this charge the dentist said "nothing is for free." This seems like a highly unethical practice. This was the most horrific experience at a doctors office I have ever had. Before walking into the office I had a peculiar phone call with the dentist himself booking the appointment and quickly telling me he would see what he would do because of my insurance. I should preface this by saying I recently went on Medicaid and was referred to this dentist by a white colleague of mine. I told this dentist that I had an unpleasant experience previously and I was very nervous for this visit but excited to start regularly going to the dentist. He proceeded to tell me that because of my insurance "he would do what he can". And that "your insurance only pays me $36 of work for each side of mouth so don't expect too much". Why is a doctor talking to my about money with a tool in my mouth? I told him that since I was new to the insurance I would need to understand how many visits I would need and how much. He then proceeded to ask me "where my people where from". I could quickly tell that this man was racially profiling me in the dentist chair. And clearly he was discriminating against me and my race. Regardless that I am from manhattan, I can afford my dental care, this dentist went out of his way to make me feel less than and a second class citizen. I strongly urge any black person or any person in general from giving this medical practitioner any work whatsoever. I am deeply disrespected and will continue this claim elsewhere. read more

After a horrible experience at Metropolitan Dental Associates, I got a list of dentists from my DMO. Most had pretty awful reviews or were no longer accepting patients with my insurance but Dr. Noorani came up with 1 positive review so I figured I should have some faith and give him a call, which I'm glad I did. I needed a crown and Dr. Noorani made the experience very easy and as pleasant as getting fitted for a crown can be. He explained all the costs up front and did not rush me into making any decisions. the process took several visits but Dr. Noorani made sure I left with a crown that fit perfectly and it does! The staff is very professional and calls to confirm all appointments which serve as a friendly reminder. I have never had to wait unreasonable amounts of time when I arrive for appointments either. Dr. Noorani is a good dentist. If you've been to dentists in NYC, then you're aware of the fact that RIP YOU OFF. Dr. Noorani is the best dentist I found in the city for my price range. Dr. Noorani is more of a no-nonsense dentist. The first time I went there he did a free consultation, free x-rays and told me exactly how many fillings I needed, and how much each would cost. He takes care of all the insurance paperwork which is a BIG plus. He might not be a smooth talker, but he is a very honest man. Has good taste in music and art, and time permitting he will engage you in pretty interesting conversation. If you're looking for a dentist who will treat you like a baby and charge you 2x-3x extra for his 'manners', then I you should probably go somewhere else. read more

I had a tooth extraction from a doctor in CT, an extraction that resulted in a dry socket. In complete panic mode, I came across Dr. Noorani on the internet. Their office was incredibly accommodating and gave me an appt on the same day. Upon entering his office, I saw him warped up in his own thoughts, no expression whatsoever. He was diligently instructing his staff on the patient he had currently seen. He glanced over in my direction, and said nothing, no smile, no frown. Seconds later he told me to enter the patient room. He thoroughly examined my teeth, not only the side that was hurting, but the other side as well. He assured him that it would be all right but it would require a week or so to heel. He gave me medication, prescribed me some antibiotics, and told me to come back in three days. He was incredibly knowledgable in his profession and had a charming personality. He spoke of history, politics, and even made some rather funny jokes. It is very important for people to feel a sense of comfort and trust with their doctor. He made me feel as if I was more than a file that would eventually make it back to his cabinet. He was out for my best interest. He is ones of those guys that you want to call anytime you have a problem, it's a shame he is only an oral surgeon. I went to Dr. Noorani because all my friends have been going to him for years. At that time I was looking for a second opinion on some major dental work my former dentist said I should be having (and paying for!). After thoroughly examining the situation, Dr. Noorani said there's a chance my dentist is right, but there is also a chance it is something minor that could be corrected with a prescription toothpaste - why don't we try that first and if it does not help we still can go for the major job. Guess what? He was right!! Not only was I able to keep my tooth but also save a lot of money. That was almost 2 years ago - I've been back every 6 months for my checkup since and feel in the best hands ever - dentally speaking :-) This dentist knows what he is doing!!
