I have been going to dental arts for 14 years. When Dr. Kevin Lehman took over the practice a great dental practice became tremendous. Dr. Lehman and the entire staff are caring, thoughtful and knowledgeable. While getting my bi-annual teeth cleaning his dental technician immediately spotted a periodontal issue and by catching it early saved me from years of painful problems. I have had a lot of dental issues over the years that have required specialists and the referrals by dental arts have also always been top notch. All of the other dental practitioners have respected the practice and have good working relationships with Dr. Lehman and his team. Finding a good dentist is hard enough, having an amazing dentist is the greatest peace of mind ever. read more

They did 3 crowns, that need replacing, due to open margins. They did a root canal that needs a retreatment. They told me that they couldn't save a tooth, that another endodontics was able to save! Run away. read more

I have never found a dentist I loved, and am withholding judgement until I get my fillings next week. However, I absolutely loved the dental assistant! Kate did the best cleaning I've ever had; thorough, listened to my issues /concerns and talked me through every step. Added bonus : They have a TV in each room, and I lucked out because parks & rec was on. After mentioning that the show was awesome (RIP parks), she turned up the volume for me (score!) which helped pass the time during the x-rays and cleaning. I scheduled to see Dr. Butensky via zocdoc, and he reviewed my x-rays, took a look, answered questions and was generally quick. One thing to note is that my insurance covers 80% of white fillings but this place only uses silver. I wanted to get a quote on the additional cost, but didn't quite get one due to how busy the front office is. Overall ; really nice staff, awesome cleaning, but will have to let you know how my fillings go. read more

I must say that Dr. Lehman and his team has been by far one of my better dental experiences over the last few years. So many others are only looking for how they can extract the most money from you but Dental Arts is not like that at all. Hi, I attended Dental Arts for Invisalign. Dr Small was my dentist. I am very happy with his care. It was very professional, and there was great attention to detail regarding the alignment of my teeth. He followed up with my appointments, checking in requesting pictures to monitor the trays and accommodated my schedule. I just completed my treatment and I am happy to smile brightly once again. I am very picky and apprehensive about who does my dental work. I was visiting NYC during the holidays and needed some dental work. A couple of friends recommended Dr Lehman. I seriously don't get why the low rating here. Everyone was so friendly and smiley despite it was a blizzard outside. Annabelle the hygienist was very gentle & explained everything along the way. She really tried to ease my anxiety to dental treatment. To me, the entire experience was definitely 5-star! Dr. Lehman and his team are the BEST! I started going to the practice when I first moved to the city four years ago, and have always had a pleasant experience. Nalini always does gentle and expert cleanings, and has given me a lot of insight about my teeth. While I'm usually only there twice a year for cleanings, I did have an incident where I damaged a partial cap on a molar and had to get a full crown. The drilling procedure went smoothly, and then Dr. Lehman designed the crown, and sent it to a 3D printer in the office. I got to stand by the machine and watch it get printed, and then they finished the procedure! I was pretty impressed and also happy to avoid a temporary crown and a second appointment. I have also had two cleanings since COVID started, and have felt very safe with their new procedures. I don't think anyone ever actively looks forward to going the dentist, but I always somewhat enjoy my appointments because the level of care is excellent and the entire staff is so friendly and personable. Anytime a friend or coworker says they are looking for a new dentist, I advocate hard for Dental Arts! read more

Always a wonderful dental experience with Dr. Lehman and his team. Over the years, with their help, I have progressed from a phobic patient to someone that actually enjoys dental cleanings. I was very happy to see the comprehensive COVID protocols they have put in place. From temp checks, sanitizers, open windows, air purifiers everywhere, separate rooms for cleanings and dental checks to limit the Dr's exposure. Airing out rooms between appts and Having patients rinse with peroxide the second the mask comes off. I bet I'm missing some but you get the idea. This is a staff that really cares about you teeth and your health. 2.5 Stars is DUMB for Dental Arts. They deserve 10 stars! I was recommended to got to Kevin by a colleague about 4 years ago. It was my first dentist since moving to New York and it was also conveniently located near my work at the time. I am so happy I took my colleague up on the offer. Kevin and TEAM are wonderful! Sweet, sincere, real about what you need and what you don't need, positive and friendly. I don't like dentists. They scare me. Even more than going to any type of doctor. Here at Dental Arts, Kevin and team make me feel at home and safe. I have never had an issue with the 'front of house' or the back. I have had everything from cavities, cleaning or replacing part of a missing tooth done and its always been pleasant. I look forward to my 6 month check up! I was without insurance for a while and I still went to Dental Arts. It is worth the money. I even have insurance thats sh*t and Dental Arts doesn't take it AND I STILL CHOOSE TO GO THERE. I have recommended Kevin and team to at least 3 other people and everyone has been so happy they took me up on my recommendation. I don't do Yelp reviews. Write or Read. Avoid at all costs! I had a decent experience my first time here since I only came for a x-rays, cleaning, and checkup. The x-rays were professional done as was the cleaning. The hygenist did a very thorough job and I commend her for it. However, the dentist Dr. Duka looked at my x-rays and presumed that my teeth were in good condition. He did not even take any instruments to look in my mouth. Then based on the x-rays, he suggests that I have my wisdom tooth pulled. I wanted to consult with him about it, but he just left without answering my questions. I think he was just interested in $$$$ for me to pull my wisdom teeth. Overall, I have a bad impression of him based on his disappearing act. Secondly, the receptionist said she would contact my insurance company and get an estimate of the wisdom tooth extraction for me. A month later I receive a bill from my insurance company for services that I did not even receive!! That is completely ridiculous that the dentist got paid when he didn't even extract my tooth. AGAIN, this is all about $$$$ with them. Lastly, I went in for emergency services and I know my insurance covers this but the receptionist said that they have to charge me for it because they don't know if my insurance will pay it. WTF is that? Again, it is all about $$$$ with them. So, I paid the money and I will never go back there again. Good riddence you money-hungry slaves. read more

From registration to cleaning, I felt extremely cared for as a first time patient. I didn't bring my insurance card, but had the info/phone number, and they quickly took care of everything for me in the front office without blinking an eye. I wish I had read the above review before going to this dental office. After a cleaning where the dentist identified 3 cavities, I came back to get a root canal (and treat an infection that mysteriously appeared after the cleaning). The root canal could not be performed because the tooth had already decayed too much so the dentist stood looking at the x-ray in front of me, shaking his head at an obvious loss for what to do. Finally, he filled it up, as if it were a normal filling. Now the tooth is freakin' killing me and the advice I got was "maybe ya could extract it.. ya might need an implant tho." Also the front desk wasn't the nicest, nor the dentist the most comforting. read more

There are no surprises, and I feel very much involved and informed in all decision making. His staff are wonderful. The care he provides is top-notch. What a disappointment this place ended up being. I went in with a small issue, and came out worse, with more work needed. This place overcharged me, even though I told the receptionist I was covered 100 percent. They did not consult me properly, and I felt taken advantage of. Now I need more work, as per the dentist request;; but they now want me to have a consultation? Consultation? Your office told me what had to be done ( after the fact) , and now you want me to pay for a consultation? Then pay again to have the work done? The best thing in that office, was the dentist's assistant ( Latino) he was amazing and caring. I would not suggest this place to anyone, unless you want to be overcharged, and taken advantage of. I'm shocked to see this offices overall low rating. I've been a patient under Dr.Lehman's care for over 2 years now and cannot say more great things about my time there. Booking with the office is always very easy - I commute from LI to NYC for work and they always have availability from the wee hours of the morning to after work if needed. You can also book through ZocDoc. The office is easy to get to and located in a convenient spot near a few train lines. The building doormen are always cheery and helpful every time I go (I forget the floor # every damn time.) I never have to wait long for my appointments, although I always suggest arriving early because sometimes they are able to fit you in earlier as well. The staff is always helpful and will answer all your questions, I never feel like Im being rushed. The dental staff is thorough with the annual cleanings and give you honest advice on how to care for yourself. No up-selling on unnecessary teeth whitening procedures like other places. Dr. Lehman is a very attentive doctor who is always willing to answer my crazy hypochondriac what if scenarios and knows each case (patient) well. I'm always surprised when he remembers me from appointments 6 months apart! Overall this is the BEST dental office experience I've had in my entire life. I have been going to dentist after dentist with issues since I was a child and this is the best care I've received in that time. I refer all my friends and coworkers to DAM. read more

Trust these reviews and stay away! I made an emergency appt for a filling at 9am the next day online, and I showed up and the door was locked! No one was there, and then I waited a half an hour and STILL no one showed! Unbelievable! i completely understand that maybe my appt didn't go through since I did it online, but don't even accept appointments at 9 if you're whole office doesn't show up til 10! I even called later to see what the problem was and she told me that 'its not their fault' because the system glitches. Show up on time and this wouldn't be an issue!! Beyond mad about this. Beware. I did not have a good experience with this dentist practice for two reasons: 1. I feel they did a bad job with 3 of my cavities (they have done 6+ for me total). The cavities did not set correctly, which they told me was normal and had to have them re-done. I could imagine having to redo 1, but 3 felt like an unordinary high number. The dentist was rather new and said my teeth were "unusually" shaped. What?! 2. They tried to recommend me to get more cavities filled than were truly necessary. Upon getting a second opinion from a different dentist, she recommended that I wait and watch those same cavities rather than getting them filled immediately. However Dental Arts made it seem like I should get those same cavities done immediately. read more

I switched dentists to Dental Arts last summer and the first experience wasn't the best because it is a root canal. And no matter what it's a traumatic experience whether you have a good or bad dentist. But after that they are now my regulars to go to. The building itself and hallways are really not nice. But if you are willing to get over it and look for a good teeth cleaning with a team of professionals. Look no further than Dental Arts! The office itself is very nice and clean. And dr Duka loves art and abstract things. So you will find some really nice pieces in here as you wait and stare at the beautiful fish tank with exotic fish in it. read more

Booked appointment for 11am next day. Got a phone call at 10am saying the doctor wasn't in that day. When I asked how this can happen, I was told his schedule was empty, but he wasn't there?! I'm not sure that restating facts qualifies as an explanation. Then 5 minutes later my appointment was confirmed on ZocDoc... Client appointment management must not be the hardest part of being a dentist and I can't get into the mindset of a professional who maintains a staff that doesn't know how to operate it, or refuses to give them the information they need to operate it. Dr Lehman and his staff are wonderful. Anabel is a gentle and thorough hygenist; she watches for certain trouble spots over time. Dental care is great and I've never had trouble with billing. I also like the flat screen TVs in each exam room, so you can watch daytime TV as your teeth are cleaned; and then they will project your XRays on the TV! This office makes a trip to the dentist as pleasant as possible. Do not be turned off by the lowish overall rating as Dr Lehman turned this practice around after he purchased it. read more

Dr. Lehman has gone above and beyond to provide a safe dental experience during COVID. The windows are cracked to allow for a constant breeze, they have UV air purifiers, they limit patients per day, everyone is wearing masks, specifically N95 and sheilds/jump suits for staff, and all equipment is properly sanitized and covered/stored. I had a great visit. Amazing technology and the staff was very friendly! Dr. Lehman makes it easy to visit the dentist :) awesome bedside manner! I had not visited Dental Arts Manhattan and I had tooth soreness, so I quickly got into Zocdoc to find a dentist that could get me in ASAP. I was in the next day. When I got to the office, Dr Lehman looked at my teeth and reviewed my X-ray and came to the conclusion I needed a root canal. He was able to send me right over to an Endodontist and they quickly started taking care of my tooth soreness. After my root canal I went back to Dr. Lehman for my crown and again it was easy to make the appointment and once I got there I was taken right back. Dr. Lehman was able to prep my tooth and set my crown all in one sitting. It was amazing technology and the crown is flawless. Dr. Lehman and his dental assistant were not only super friendly and pleasant to chat with but very transparent in every step of the process including what they were doing to my tooth, to the process of the crown and the cost of everything. When I visited the dentist, he said that I had a large cavity/possible root canal in my molar. Since I've been moving around for the past few years and haven't gotten xrays in awhile that wasn't surprising. The root canal was expensive, but since I have no way to dispute this and I had gottenn a recommendation for him I trusted him. The second visit I had another cavity. I trusted him again, but it seems pretty strange that I started having all these teeth problems after I started seeing him. Today, when I was brushing my teeth there was a black streak that wouldn't go away. I'm thinking that this is the filling somehow leaking out of tooth. Finally, they cant seem to get the billing right. They generally quote me a lower number which I pay then send me a follow up bill. I checked with my insurance and the total bill is accurate for the services they gave me, but it is still skethcy. Needless to say I'm going to find another dentist. read more

Here is a rundown of my experience: - Appointment 1 (Cleaning): Assistant takes xrays, dentist performs exam. Cleaning not done as I had arrived 10 minutes late. He identifies 3 cavities (I hadn't seen a dentist in 2 years) and I am asked to reschedule the cleaning. - Appointment 2 ("cleaning" aka root canal, 12 days later): Supposed to be the aforementioned cleaning, but ends up being an unplanned root canal (I felt pressured to get it taken care of on the spot). The root canal was deemed "necessary" even though that tooth had been given a clean bill of health during exam a couple of days earlier (the tooth needing a root canal was not one of the teeth identified as having a cavity). No pain or noticeable sensitivity either. I ask the Dentist to re-examine the xrays and check to make sure a root canal is needed since it wasn't mentioned previously. He responds that yes, definitely, there is obvious decay and that he couldn't have missed that earlier. Dentist was then unable to complete the (impromptu) root canal once started because of missing equipment (which the assistant had placed in the sanitizer). Had to leave with a half finished root canal. - Appointment 3 (root canal take 2, 2 days later): Dentist admits that he hadn't identified a need for a root canal (as I correctly thought) during the exam supposedly because the tooth had a filing. He then claimed the filling had fallen out within the time between the exam and my next appointment. He had not noticed the missing filling on the tooth when beginning the root canal even though I asked him to compare it to the xray and the filling was clearly shown on x-ray from a couple of days earlier.) I also find it odd that I didn't notice a filling falling out: it was a chunk of metal and would have presumably left a noticeable hole in the tooth! After the root canal, the tooth cracked in half (vertical split), requiring complete extraction (by a specialist) and a likely implant (probably not covered by my insurance). Perhaps this was my fault for not seeking a second opinion after being informed that I needed a root canal. Perhaps the tooth cracking post-root canal was my fault because I chewed using the fragile tooth (although it was a piece of bread). Perhaps it was an unfortunate, but unlikely accident. I don't know... I didn't appreciate the pressure to have a root canal, and I didn't feel comfortable after the conflicting readings of my xrays. In my case "getting it over and done with" was just the beginning. Update: Post-extraction, an exam and xrays by another dentist showed no cavities, despite having had no work done on the other supposedly decaying teeth. read more

I'd give 0 stars if I could. While I found everyone very friendly at Dental Arts the dentist I saw was incompetent. Like some of the other accounts on here I was told I needed services that I ended up not needing. In my case I was told I needed a root canal and after several failed attempts the dentist referred me to a root canal specialist who told me there was nothing wrong with the tooth and that the x-ray the first dentist sent along indicated there was no problem. The specialist did a new set of x-rays and found nothing wrong with that tooth or the others. He later determined that I had extreme sensitivity to cold which was later double-confirmed by two dental school professors (including another root canal specialist) at a respected dental school. I don't know if the dentists here are totally incompetent or just trying to get more fees from the insurance companies but all I know is that you should NOT go anywhere near this place. If you want good dental care and can't afford it then check your a respected university dental school. Don't take a chance and don't be afraid to get a second opinion. Go with your gut feelings! read more

I have been a patient for a few years after dumping the scam artists at Union Square Dental who constantly try to upsell you on non insurance covered services. Dr Lehman and his staff are professional, caring and easy to work with. I have had cleanings as well as major dental work done....all with great care and great results. I have Dr Lehmann and I find he is honest, down-to-earth, provides excellent care and willing to refer me to cheaper alternatives. For example, he urged me to have three of my wisdom teeth out , or at last 2 of them as the 2 in question had severe decay and would proably hurt in ensuing months. As he knew I did not have health insurance, he referred me to either Columbia or NYU Dental School. In the past, he has given me a thorough cleaning and periodic xrays. He has identified correctly cavities and once caught a mistake his own mistake after he intially read one tooth as having a cavity, I would recommend him. I withhold one star as the other dentist in the practice I have not had experience with and so feel unable to give 5 stars unless I have worked successfully with the other dentist. read more

Only reason why I'd say 1 star is appropriate is because Dr. Lehman was very kind and seemingly knew what he was doing. HOWEVER, I'd recommend staying far, far away from this office. Scam, scam, scam. They first told me I was in network and 100% of cleaning/x-rays would be covered. LIE. They also told me I owed a certain amount for filings in office, but then I received a bill from my insurance and they had not been notified of my payment to the office. SCAM, SCAM, SCAM! Also, when I called my insurance, they told me the amount submitted was over 300% more than they normally see submitted by dentists in my area. Greedy and dishonest. Not a good combo. read more

The receptionist, Gloria, is one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. Dreadful. Dr. Lehman is nice though I do think that he tries to fill cavities that are not an issue. I don't really trust their judgement there and am sure that xrays every 6 months is totally excessive. read more

This is my first Yelp review. Even though there are enough negative reviews for Dr. Lehman, I am compelled to add another. I completely agree with the reviews that Dr. Lehman is all about trying to make more money through insurance fees. After filling several "cavities", it was determined that I needed a root canal. After a incredibly rough and uncomfortable root canal where he had to call in a specialist during the procedure because he did not know what he was doing, I was told by another professional, a well-respected oral surgeon that the root canal was completely unnecessary! Now that tooth is a complete mess and I have an appointment with a root canal specialist to see if I can keep the tooth or whether I will need to have it extracted. Dr. Lehman also came in to one of my appointments with a long list of "necessary procedures" that none of my other dentists agree with. Incompetent, greedy, and the worst experience with a dentist I have ever had. There are plenty of honest, kind, dentists out there. Make an appointment elsewhere, ask your friends, and please avoid Dr. Lehman at all costs. read more
