If you like visiting store that has incredible variety, but a level above Wal-Mart, then Meijer has what you need. From anti-freeze to fresh produce and meats, they've got you covered with an amazing and vast selection of endless items. Likewise, the store is very clean and well organized, once you learn the layout. I was actually impressed on my most recent trip to this store, when I decided to check out the wide variety of Asian cooking ingredients. This store seems to cater towards Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese tastes. Whereas, the other Meijer stores north of Belleville, tend to include more Japanese and Korean food items. The meat and seafood sections are well loaded and stocked with a wide variety of items. I was able to pick up some salmon for tonight's dinner at a reasonable price. That being said, I plan to buy some chicken breast, legs and wings the next time I shop here as they have an amazing selection of poultry. This Meijer is so well stocked all the time! Every time I visit here everyone is very friendly who works here! Especially the store director, Lavinvell (sorry mis spelled your name). He really seems to care about the way his store looks and he is very approachable and really does care for his employees and customers. The HR person named Sarah really cares a lot for her employees and takes the time to get to know them well and check on them to see how things are going. If you ever want to meet the store director you can almost find him in the dairy area rearranging the cheeses to make sure they are organized and well stocked! I don't think they ever have empty shelves and when they do they don't stay empty for long! If you ever want to work at a Meijer this is definitely the one you want to work at!! I live within a mile of the Belleville Meijer, but I was willing to pay, especially while I was rehabbing my knee. Love the whole experience. But to use Shipt all of the time was so costly, especially on Workmen's Comp. Fast forward to today. Meijer is offering free shopping/pickup and I love it! The ladies that have been my shoppers are wonderful. They are upbeat, smiling and always give me the best service. They should be allowed to accept tips as these workers were hired as cashiers and are asked to do something that is unusual (so many workers would cop an attitude because it is not their job). The staff is never rude, always upbeat and kind. I took a star off because the store is continuously under stocked and the women's clothing is HALF the size of the men's, not HALF as visually appealing and has half the selection. Excellent service from Meijer's butcher in Belleville, maybe Monday. No one has geese this year, problems in the supply chain. Holiday Market, unavailable from any suppliers. Meijer, same. Kroger, none in stock. But the Meijer butcher went on line for at least five minutes, and she wrote out for me the names and phone numbers of 5 area retailers who said they sell geese. One of these, the Butcher Shoppe in Belleville, was my next stop anyway; none available from any of their suppliers. Norman's in Westland, same thing. But my next call, sixth total, to The Market in Brownstown, got me a goose. Had been afraid I'd have to switch after 47 years of goose with chestnut stuffing. Excellent job by Meijer's butcher. And while I'm on a roll: Good service from Shipt during COVID, especially from !!! Megan !!! When Meijer had run out of eggnog at Christmas I told her Drat, I should have bought some from the party store when I was there. Megan delivered my groceries. As always, I popped out quickly to thank her; she told me that she stopped at a gas station on the way here an bought me a quart of eggnog. As I started back into the house I remembered that my charge at Meijer wouldn't cover a purchase at a gas station so I asked how was I to handle paying for it? She said Don't worry about it, it's a gift. And as I unloaded my groceries in the kitchen, I also found a Christmas card from Megan. So, five stars, only because they don't let me put six. read more

But when my husband come home from work it showed me he took a bite out of this plum that was absolutely Brown rotted nasty on the inside took a bite didn't even look at it until he brought it down from his mouth. I typically have more good experiences than bad here. The workers in the fruits/vegetable sections are always polite and helpful. The workers in the self checkout usually seem in a bad mood but can be polite when you ask for help, depending on the person. Customer service workers have always been nice. The biggest complaint I would have is there are people here who can be unprofessional. Workers will swear out loud in conversation talking to each other or on their air pods (just witnessed this today) in front of customers including kids. I find that very inappropriate for a work environment. read more

So I know Meijer started out in Michigan. We have been shopping at our local Meijer for years. It wasn't too many years ago it had a facelift and rearranging. This piticular location looks sorta old and neglected. Maybe they have concentrated too heavily outside of their home roots? Aisles are long. Ours were cut in half and now have a main aisle running thru them. The book section and electronics was much bigger here. Check out lanes felt old. Cart return was nonexistent. Went in just to pick up a few things. As I was passing through the store aisle an employee with an attitude stopped me. She asked about my service dog. I explained he was a service dog and the tasks he performed (questions permitted by ADA). It seems she was not satisfied, rolled her eyes and said 'trusting' and walked away. I'm embarrassed to say how often I come to this freaking place. And I make shopping lists! Even though this place has some issues with cleanliness and weird employees (one time I was getting some meat from the deli and the dude was making laser gun sounds while he ran the slicer. Pew, pew, pew. True story.) it's still better then the alternatives of giving my money to janky-ass Walmart or driving all the way to Canton to hit a Kroger. While I'd prefer to always shop somewhere like Holiday Market I do enjoy the convenience that Meijer offers in terms of being able to get food and medicine and toys and household crap as well. I just wish our Meijer was on the list of stores they were giving upgrades to. The inside of this place is pretty gross to be completely honest with you. My old lady won't even get deli meat from here because it's so dirty back there. The bathrooms are also always disgusting. Always. Stank should not be wafting out of a public restroom at a grocery store every day for 20+ years - for real. I've also had occasion to get meat from here that was labeled as being plenty fresh but was straight up rank when I opened up the package. Another pet peeve is that I wish they would put in more self checkouts. This location is notorious for never having enough cashiers so, if they aren't going to pay people to ring me up at least rip out those lanes and put in a few more stations where I can do it myself. Pros though are the convenience like I said, the selection throughout all the departments, the pharmacy is always fast, their return policy is very generous and MPerks is a really good rewards program. There are a lot worse places to shop but there are also a lot better places as well. This Meijer is not as great as it typically is this morning. The 1st thing I see is a sign that says mask must be worn inside now. The 1st person I saw was a very nice greeter however she had no mask on. Please be consistent with your staff they should have on a mask too. I see some definite improvements in this Meijer, I still have the occasional issue but not the way it used to be. If I am cheap shopping and not feeling like a drive to better market, this place will do just fine. The stocking seems a bit more consistent and it is not all Meijer generics like it was there for awhile. I can get actual brands I am looking for. I do wish they would stock the six pack bottles of diet Pepsi though or any individual sized bottle of Sprite Zero (or any individual sized bottle of diet root beer for that matter- any brand will do). They do carry plenty of the only bottled tea I drink (outside of Trader Joes), unsweet Gold Peak. The meat department seems better staffed now and even friendly for the most part. They offer samples and seem to have no problem cutting my deli products to order rather than pushing the pre cut stuff. Around eight or so they sell the pre cut products for half off and I see a lot of people getting the bargains. I also like the Meijer brand meats and they are a bargain regular price. The prepared stuff is awful but it generally is everywhere I shop. I have seen a much better fruit and veggie section lately. The clamshells of mixed greens have decent sell by dates on them at the very least and they offer a good variety of different types of whole heads of lettuce. I can get all my salad making needs in one stop this winter. They offer some harder to find fruits and have a reliable stock of fresh herbs in a pinch. Still not the best but improved. I love the big ziplocs of shelled nuts, much fresher than the ones at Kroger. I love that they are carrying the greek yogurts I prefer from Stoneyfield and in plenty of varieties. They also have the Chobani pineapple, passionfruit, blood orange and pomegranate which works for me. Now if they could only stock me some decent cheese and all the flavors of pop chips. The bakery stuff is best avoided though, on many levels. Ditto on the pharmacy. I am hugely annoyed that I have to cross an entire store to get to basics like deodorant or toothpaste. Poor design. I did find some rock bottom prices on popular paperback titles and flashlights lately. I got an handy deviled egg carrier for a party for a song over the holidays, which worked. This is my local grocery store. It is super close to my house, and open 24 hours, so I can't ask for more convenience. I rarely shop sections other than the grocery, but it is a full Meijer with a range of household items, clothes, pharmacy, etc. Normally, I would choose a local grocery like Busch's or the former Hiller's, but I no longer have one in close range to my home. The grocery lay out, space, and cleanliness is excellent. It is not as crowded, narrow as some Meijer stores. It is well lit, organized, and stocked. There are three important areas of a grocery store for me: produce, meat, dairy. I focus on those along with brief notes on liquor, deli, and bakery in this review. They key of any grocery store for me is produce. Meijer offers a broad range of local and distant produce, both fruit and vegetable. This includes a fair selection of organic produce. The produce area tends to be full, clean, and maintained. Rarely have I seen fruit flies or the like at this location, and I have never seen filth, mold, or excessive bugs like I have experienced at other grocery stores. I tend to shop early on Saturday or Sunday mornings to avoid crowds, so sometimes I have to ask or wait for a few items to be stocked if they were depleted late the prior day. This is rare, however, and the produce staff is always helpful. In general, the butcher area of Meijer has declined over the last twenty years, but it is still better than most chain grocers. Meijer still does a lot of it's own cutting and processing, including making fresh sausage, which is great. I recommend the fresh Meijer Italian, bratwurst, breakfast, and other types of sausage. They are good quality and reasonably priced. The fish and meat section at this Van Buren Township / Belleville Meijer is good. I like its layout more than many of their stores. It is in short sections in front of the butcher counter, instead of the long freezer row along one wall of the store. The selection of meats here is decent, and their butchers will usually cut meat to your specifications upon request. This Meijer has a great dairy section. Their selection of butter has a range of choices from domestic and international sources. It covers a range of needs from daily cooking and serving to fairly rich, decadent cooking and baking. Meijer has its own branded dairy products, including organic. The Meijer milk is good, and the Meijer organic milk is great. It doesn't have the over-processed, slightly burnt flavor of some pasteurized milks. This store also carries a good variety of dairy alternatives and non-store branded options. With regard to packaged cheese and yogurt, the selection is great. They don't carry every variety, but they have a lot of brand options and more than enough flavors. This Meijer store has an excellent beer, wine, and liquor section. It is chockfull with a range of price points and types and sources to meet almost any palate. It also carries a fair amount of Michigan products, though they could be better identified and placed within the store. Unfortunately, over the years the deli section of Meijer overall has declined so much that I no longer buy anything at their deli counter. While they have a good range of Meijer branded products in this section, they no longer carry some of the higher quality brands and items. In addition, the staffing at this location is always too light, and while friendly, the speed of service is slow to the point of being obstinate. Meijer has a bakery section that is well-stocked with reasonable quality. Their items are fresher and better than most factory baked goods, but they are not great. With so many excellent, family-owned bakeries around metro-Detroit, and most of Michigan, it is easy to find higher quality and more interesting bread, pastries, etc. That said, in a pinch, I'll take a loaf of their house italian or french bread over soft-n-good -- any day. The rest of the grocery is solid. Like I mentioned earlier, the layout is easy to navigate and organized. In most sections, they carry a solid selection of items. Their store branded items are good quality and reasonably priced. Some that I buy frequently are their frozen vegetables and organic spices. Finally, though the staff here is helpful and friendly, Meijer is fighting the economics of labor. With rare exception, the employees here are slow, even lackadaisical. During peak times, it is rare to see all lanes fully open. Though, infrequently I have seen a manager walk through and open or staff more cashier lanes. Also, something about the layout of the front of the store makes the wait for a live or self cashier station worse. It doesn't funnel appropriately, and it is hard to see across lanes, so when busy, navigating through this area is a painful exercise. Overall, this Meijer is better than many on this side of town, and it is definitely better than many of the competitor grocery stores in the area. read more

Some days we get great service some days we do not. Tonight was such an occasion. I got out of work and came here to pick up a bottle of brandy to start my mon tue weekend off with. I get the bottle and get on register 2 self serve. It tells me assistance needed since I am buying booze. Ok I understand the state and federal laws regarding this. Bad enough the gal checking my id was probably not even born when I was 22 years old or even when I was 25, I do understand! The self serve computer has no way of determining my age, but come on! The red light is on telling you assistance is needed at register 2, go assist the customer waiting patiently to cash out and go home, but no you are doing everything else and or chatting with your fellow employees than assist!! So finally my patience ran out and I moseyed over to a human being on register 12. Got my stuff rung up, am heading out the door, I walk past the young lady who was supposed to assist and I explain why there was no one at register 2 when she finally looked up and walked over to check on that red light. This Meijer is always well lit. The food is fresh and laid out nicely. Out of all the Meijer stores we go to this one is my favorite. They have sale items on hand and the prices here don't seem to be as drastic as at some of the other Meijer locations. Their aisles are kept neat and clean. It is easy to move around the story. It is very easy to access and there is plenty of parking. The parking lot is well lit. The staff has always been attentive to me when I went here. I had to go get some hot ice one time and I didn't know how it was sold or priced or handled. The staff helped me locate it, get it out of the case and pay for it. (Yikes! Hot ice is EXPENSIVE!) They also provided caution information and helped me load my buggy. They have very good pizzas at this location too. The frozen section is very well stocked and though it might sound strange I always find the things in their frozen section to be fresh. They have a very good deli as well. Whether you want a quick lunch or a meal for a whole family they can handle it. read more

I have been a Meijer customer for many years. My business took me all over Michigan so I have patronized many Meijer stores. The Belleville Meijer is the worst I've ever seen. It was O.K. until the present general manager took over. I had a problem with a cashier several years ago. The previous manager took care of it immediately. The current manager would probably try to spin it into a stupid: I "need to undestand" crap story like she did a few years ago when she created chaos overdoing machine auto check out lines. (She had customer lines backed up to the opposite store wall) Her attempt at spinning the incompentence was: "People do not react well to change" -this after I told her I am very high tech oriented. The service desk is irrationally Lotto customer focused and the staff cannot work the simple USPS mail scale computer system. On several occasions, I have seen & experienced the following crazy practice: Only two or three staff working the service desk with several customers waiting to send mail, make returns, etc. Here is the nutty part: ALL or ALL BUT ONE of the staff servicing a sinlge LOTTO customer. O.K. finish the transaction. They get their turn but that is not what happens!The LOTTO person buys several instants, finds a small winner. Staff waits & cashes winning ticket, sells more and keeps doing this, until the person quits! What's insane about this is Michigan stores make nothing from LOTTO transactions! Second problem: Whenever store manager is a little short on staff rather than claim the LOTTO machine is broken, she has the staff tell people the USPS mail computer-scale system is broken! Why lie at all? Only incompetent managers lie. The Deli is even worse than the worst Kroger deli I've ever seen (the Michigan Ave/ Canton- Center Road Kroger). I know that "customer is always right" died with downtowns & small business shops but this deli staff takes things too far the other way. For the most part, the deli staff runs their own shop and its philosophy is "whatever is easiest for us". The produce section was like that until enough new "associates" were hired in to it about six years ago. This deli crew appears to be unsupervised. They cut ahead any lunch meat .that is on special & pile it uncovered in the deli case (which I though violates Health code). Some staff insists on serving customers the open air dried pre-cut even when customers ask for fresh cut. If they obey, staff is sure to "get side tracked" & move slowly. They are inconsistent about the customer service number system. Sometimes they use it, sometimes they do not. I mention this because it leads to tiffs between customers. BUT...it's easier for the staff, which like electricity seeks the "easiest route". I've advised friends who are too social to risk tension with deli staff to simply order a thinner cut so they can get fresh cut meat. A new worker, I hear, intensionally gets the order wrong. The manager of this Meijer needs to get with it and start managing this Meijer! Bad service is certainly grounds for dismissal and there are plenty of people looking for work in this tanked Michigan economy. read more

I would normally leave a good review of this Meijer since I usually don't have problems. Until I started picking up the groceries through them. When shipt did the shopping it was wonderful. They were friendly, texted when something was out, asked what they could replace the item with, told you when they would be done... Now you take what you get. Hardly have I been given the choice to substitute anything. I'm not told until I get there that they are out of something. I make orders based upon what I need. If one thing is missing, it doesn't make sense to buy other items on my list. So then I'm stuck with items for a recipe I can't complete. But hey, Meijer got their money who cares about the customer service. That's another thing, I call customer service & they have nothing but excuses & want to push me off onto another department. Went there on Sunday at 1100am and there were so many pallets and boxes blocking most of the isles...I left asap. All in grocery department. I used to go there Saturday mornings around 6 am and you couldn't hear yourself think because you were getting run down by the floor cleaning guys. And they expect YOU to get out of the way. Waiting until last for the chicken only to find out that they didn't have a 8 piece (another 15 minute wait at 5:00, really?). In order to substitute pieces it would cost me $2 a piece more! 10 self-serve checkout lines only had one associate to troubleshoot all of them.
