I used to grocery shop at Meijer-13 mile all the time, but I started going to Kroger's a few years ago and never looked back. Meijer's claim to fame was low prices and they do have that, but by the time I factor in the cost to drive there (I live in north Oakland County) and Kroger digital coupons/Kroger Card rebate I'm just about at the same price for most commodities. I also get Kroger Fuel Awards to save money when I fill up my gas tank. Outside of the diminishing price advantage, there were other things that I didn't care for at Meijer. The quality of the store workers started going down from the old regulars we knew and loved. I once saw a guy pushing a cart of raw hamburger-with no plastic covering it. He took a turn too fast and 3-4 pounds of hamburger fell off the cart and landed on the tile floor. He promptly picked up the hamburger and put it behind the glass in the meat department. My wife and I were stunned and we reported it to the floor manager-if they found out who did it they probably fired him, then went out and hired someone equally inept. I never see anything like that at Krogers. read more

I went to this Meijer just before Snowpocolypse 2/11. It was very crowded, but what impressed me most was that just as fast as customers were cleaning off the shelves, the staff was quickly replenishing their supply. Meats looked fresh, fruits looked delicious and I was in and out in 35 minutes! I'll definitely return to this Meijer. read more

While this location doesn't have the shine of the Coolidge store, if I anticipate a mob scene there, I come to the Madison Heights location for a quick and easy in and out. More accessible by freeway and usually plagued by less traffic, the 13 mile store is good to go. It doesn't have as many customers as the Royal Oak spot so navigating the store without the desire to constantly scold those oblivious people who leave their carts in the middle of the aisles is a relief. The produce is so so, although always better than Kroger's and they generally have most everything you need if you're trying to bypass multiple shopping stops. read more

I don't really shop at Meijer too often, but I probably should since their prices are generally lower than Kroger. I have 2 options for Meijers where I live. I haven't been to this location since we moved about 2 years ago. I have heard it was newer than the Troy/RO location, so I decided to check it out. The produce section seemed to be a little cleaner and stocked better, which isn't saying much. I've never liked Meijer for produce, but I had to pick up sweet potatoes. The lighting is kind of weird here. I don't know what it is, but it's sort of dim. It reminds me of how KMart is or at least what I remember. The shelves were sort of bare in areas that had a lot of sale items, which I think is pretty standard for Meijer. I think this location is smaller than the RO location, but seemed to be cleaner. The parking lot wasn't as ridiculous either. I'll go back again. This could be my new Meijer location. read more

This store's approach to addressing covid19 issues is appalling. No social distancing being observed, group of customers at entrance huddled around an unlabeled bottle of sanitizer and roll of paper towels to try to sanitize their carts. No partitions for cashier's safety, staff without masks, or masks hanging off face, staff not adhering to safe distances . No organization or crowd control. If this is their A-game, it would be best to avoid this store and head over to Kroger. read more

Coming from the Northeast, I've never heard of this place, but was immediately impressed with the size and "find everything you want" vibe. I think it's an interesting blend of Walmart + Target, but with a little more green-food selection that either standalone stores. The lines...though, are really unbearably long. I go to this store all the time (usually after work around 3 pm during the week) because it's the closest grocery store to my house. In fact, I've been shopping at Meijers' of various locations for over a decade now. I usually Iike Meijers because I like being able to grab household items along with my regular groceries (I'll give an extra star for that alone). A few years ago I got decent customer service, too. Bad experiences were few and far between. In the last few years, though, I've been having to wait longer and longer to check-out, at least 30 minutes even for express lanes because they never have enough lanes open, express or otherwise. If I'm just wanting to buy a few basics then I've been choosing to go to other stores with faster check-outs. Customer service is getting worse and worse. The staff is not just rude, but will treat you like a second-class citizen if you are not wearing a mask. There has not been a mask mandate policy in Michigan or at this store for awhile, and I don't wear a mask because there's no requirement for me to do so. I've had staff ignore me in the aisles when I go to ask where something is located, refuse to help me in the self-checkout lane, etc. If someone does help me BECAUSE THAT"s THEIR JOB, I've been glared at and ordered to stand far away from them like I'm a leper instead of a valued customer. Meijer, if your employees want to hide behind the plastic shields then open more regular lanes! Just today the lady at the customer service desk saw me coming and placed a large stack of boxes between me and her so it was almost impossible to talk to her. Again, there is no mask policy. Clearly Meijer doesn't want my business. I'm tired of the abuse and long check-out times, so I'll be shopping exclusively at the Kroger in Troy or the Hollywood Market in Royal Oak for now on because they treat me like a valued customer and, let's face it, a human being (what a concept, right?). read more

Is there a difference between Meijer locations? Let me be the first to tell you...yes. This location is older, and located next to a waterpark, so in summer, you get to endure screaming wild children lining up for their slide bath. The customer base at this location is generally lower income people, so don't be surprised when you find yourself shopping along ma and pa, next stop the trailer park. The store is clean, but not bright and not friendly. The girl that runs the service desk was rude to me. When doing these reviews, i try to visit many different areas of the store. The bathrooms were in major need of a scrubdown. Lots of parking, but i prefer to park at the other Meijers on Coolidge. read more

One big turnoff in regards to ALL Meijer locations, is the long check out lines. Tonight I had to wait over 30 minutes, just to pay for my items. They had one section of self scan registers closed down. The cashier who rang me up, was a senior citizen who didn't know the first thing about bagging, He placed Clorox wipes in with my shredded cheese. Then he placed my Ivory bar soap in with some other fresh food I bought. I would expect a guy his age, should know better! He also looked rather unkempt. It seems today good help is hard to find! Maybe it is due to the never ending pandemic, the wages or whatever. The prices at Meijer have risen quite substantially also. Again they are not alone in this regard, Kroger and other chain stores are doing the same. Bottom line if you need to get in and out quickly, forget shopping at Meijer. If you are looking to save money on your groceries, try Aldi, Walmart or a warehouse club. read more

Since i started living on my own in Madison Heights, I have found that Meijer has the best produce section... Kroger almost has a good selection but Meijer's selection is greater. Randazzos on 13 mile in Warren had fresher looking fruit but it was expensive compared to Meijer and they didn't have bagged apples. Joe Randazzos in Roseville has more kinds of produce at better prices but when. I was there 1/3 to half the stuff was on the verge of spoiling. ... meijer never has a good selection of dried beans or rice, the ethnic stores are where i last bought beans and rice; the prices and selection on flour and baking selection are better than kroger. The meat section is good too, better than I remember at Kroger. My biggest complaint is, I usually get stuck paying at the self check-out machines, because the lines in the manned check out lanes are usually too long or closed. The machines don't work well for me and half or more of the time I have to wait an eternity for the staff to fix my register, and then the staff act like they are doing me a favor... read more

They have a horrible pharmacist named Doug that hates his own life and takes it out on his staff and the customers that are there to pick up their prescriptions. He is so rude to the customers and totally talks down to his staff when they ask him question for a customer. He should be put in the back to stock shelves instead of being around the public. I love this Meijer. They always have what I need but they are always out of a shirt I want wether it's a Red Wings or Tigers besides that it's a pretty awesome place. They have Flaming Hot Lays which is my favorite chip lol and they don't have them anywhere else. The people that work here are pretty nice and it's always pretty clean. read more

Slowest deli in the state of Michigan!!! The workers have less sense of urgency than my kids getting up for school in the morning!! Can't keep simple items like romaine lettuce in stock!! The machine that gives out numbers at deli has been out of order for a month!! I don't have 20 minutes for you to take care of the 3 customers in front of me to get a pound of turkey! U usually get all me fruit and veggies while looking up for my number to be next. Don't know if it's the union or poor management that continues to hire these slow paced workers that are gonna make me start shopping at Kroger!!! read more

I have a major problem every time I go to this location. Joyce, who "manages" the self service lanes is terribly rude, and gets meaner if you interrupt her social chit chat to ask for her help...you know, HER JOB. It's pretty bad when regular, daytime employees are talking crap about Joyce, telling you-THE CUSTOMER, "that's why she works midnights". Fire this person already! The night crew stockers attempt to be helpful, but they're more confusing than anything, because they're high. I know this for a fact, because the seafood/cheese sections reek of marijuana, which you can smell through the entire grocery sections. I'm not a pot smoker, never have been because I'm allergic to it, and I get violently nauseated and vomit from the smoke/smell. I've mentioned this to several workers, including a manager, but obviously the managers are toking down as well, because they refuse to stop the weed smoking in the building. I hate that this is the ONLY 24 hour grocery store close to me, as everything closes before I get out of work. I seriously have a horrible experience, literally EVERY time I come to this location. I've posted on their Facebook, I've called their managers, corporate, etc. to no avail. They don't care. This location really needs new staff, all around. I would normally shy away from reviewing a store like Meijer, but every time I visit here it is an adventure and it deserves to be noted. Whether it is the great people at the Chase bank inside (who are always helpful and friendly-more like friends than people you're banking with) or the deli (which is always busy and full of the most senior citizens who are sneaky line-cutters, that i have ever seen) or the fantastic employees (one who ran down the aisle just to tell me that he told me the wrong isle to go to for salad dressing); this place is a gem. And the self-checkouts aren't congested and if you're machine rings something wrong or says you didn't bag something the woman monitoring it is actually paying attention so she just clears it and you can just go on instead of waiting forever. This is by far my favorite Meijer. read more

First off. I do like Meijer. They are almost always open and have 95 percent of anything I need. That being said, they have problems. 'Joyce' who works self checkout on nights, should be fired. Lazy, slow, unattentive and blatantly rude. I never wish for anyone to lose their job, but this one had got to go! Also, fitting rooms. No one is ever available in the evening. Manager paged for us (we used the red phone) and he paged 3x and finally I had to call him over, cause no one came, he huffed and puffed and acted like it was not his job, (like unlocking a door and walking away is so hard) (he was the black tall thin night manager). Last complaint, the steak section is limited, very few choices of high end steaks. Everytime I crave a good steak...none are available. Either they sell instantly or they order low because they don't sell...don't know I'll keep going there, but room for improvement is needed, hope upper management reads this. read more

Waited at the deli for 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge me even after I grabbed my number. Another lady mentioned that I had been waiting a while and Shaneice just shrugged her shoulders and did nothing to help. Luckily Fallon came over and helped when she saw Shaneice wasn't going to do anything. read more

Maybe I went at the wrong time, but there were a ton of people waiting to check out and not very many cashiers. On top of having to wait so long to check out, I watched the cashier bag 3 peoples orders and he was the slowest person ever! He literally looked at everything the people were buying to make sure he bagged like items together...which is great if there aren't a lot of people waiting. He also used 3 bags (1 paper and 2 plastic) if they bought any 2 liters. I seriously think it took me longer in the checkout line than it did for me to walk around the whole store to find the items I wanted to purchase. read more

This Meijer is very clean and well stocked. I'm a regular to most meijers and this one is fairly close to my house. Sadly I was going to give this Meijer 2 stars due to the fact it's customer service is disgusting. I walked into the store (barefoot, as I go most places due to my personal preference) I was rudely interrupted by a woman named Gail. No greeting just a rude haulting shriek. Screaming at me that I could not come into the store with no shoes. No where in Michigan state law nor federal law is it illegal to go into a public store with bare feet. I've frequented many Meijer before and have never had an issue I even went to the Meijer down the street on Coolidge and had no issue. Even if there was a policy about wearing shoes in the store there was definitely a much more appropriate way to handle things. I was in contact with the locations manager. I spoke with a Mackenzie on the phone before being patched through. She asked what my call was about I explained the situation and she very nicely put me on hold. My call was answered quickly and the manager on the floor was calm collected and addressed my issue in a very receivable manner. Which is why I changed my review 4 stars. In the future i did learn it is store discretion whether or not customers can be barefoot and this stores stance is that they must not be barefoot. However the majority of the staff is very helpful and easy to speak with. I hope Gail M. can have a better day and easier interactions with customers in the future. read more

We dont hit this location often but we were very pleased with it when we did. Very clean and good produce selection, although I would prefer to be able to buy limes by the bag (they only had lemons) - it certainly wasnt the end of the world. The store is Okay it is not the best Meijer that I have been to nor is it the worst Meijer that I have been to. The store is always full stocked and I have never not found what I was looking for. My only problems with this and other Meijer stores is that the lines are always slow even self checkout is slow because they only have like 3 of them open at a time which is really stupid, it's a machine, not a person why is it not open all the time, duh! read more

I highly recommend this Meijer store. For starters, they have a great variety of Organic Produce. The selection will vary but you can always find things like organic carrots, lettuce, cauliflower, spinach, beets, onions and potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and squash, avocados, peppers, bananas, and strawberries. They usually have organic bagged apples as well. Pears, oranges, grapes and berries are a sometimes thing as are organic lemons and limes. They have a whole line of Meijer Organics products that are very reasonably priced. I am also a huge fan of their Meijer Naturals line and frequently buy their Naturals version of many of our favorite foods/snacks. I highly recommend using Mperks either on the internet or through the app on your smartphone. You can clip coupons for produce which I have come to LOVE! In addition, you can earn personalized rewards for money off your next purchase for buying things you buy anyway. For example, every month I sign up for the reward to get $12 off of my next purchase when I spend $80 in Dairy. That's $12 off of groceries for buying stuff we need anyway. Also, there are pharmacy rewards that earn you $10 off of your bill after every 5 prescriptions filled. In addition, you can usually find coupons from the register to get $10 or $20 off your grocery bill when you refill or fill a new prescription. The savings REALLY add up at this store. I used to shop around for the best prices on things but with MPERKS that isn't necessary. You know you are saving money with either clipping their coupons or earning rewards. I carry my Iphone around the store and buy the items I know I have a coupon for. Simple! And, since that isn't possible for some people because they don't get phone service in the large Meijer store, I heard that they installed free WiFi so you can connect while in the store. I tried it once and found it to be slower than my phone service so didn't end up using it. But if you don't get phone service in the store, then it would be nice to use. I will admit that the lines are sometimes extremely long. They have probably 25 lanes but only 2 or 3 will have cashiers. They have 8 self-checkouts for fewer than 12 items and 4 or 5 self-checkouts for unlimited items. I always self-check out now. It's faster and easy. There are always helpful employees around if you need help. The staff here is very friendly. They even remember me and say hi to us when we are walking through. Every time I ask for where a product is located they can either give me detailed instructions on how to find it or walk me to it. I have never had a bad experience in this store. It is probably a mile and a half to two miles away from my house but I gladly pass other grocery stores to get there. Some things that I wish were different: 1. I wish they still doubled coupons but since the Mperks rolled out and the rewards program, I really don't even miss it that much. 2. I wish they had a larger selection of organic meat. Really, the only organic meat they have is Laura's ground beef. I would really like to not have to go to Trader Joe's for chicken. 3. They seem to run out of certain products sometimes. I most notice this with the Meijer Organics gallon milk and the coconut milk that I buy. There is always a different (more expensive) brand to get when this happens but it is a slight annoyance. The Meijer pharmacy on 13 mile in Madison Heights, MI is just awful! I work at a doctors office and was trying to call in a Rx for a patient, and they told me I have to just keep calling in prescriptions until I find a prescription that is covered by the patients insurance. When I asked the pharm tech if he could call the insurance company to check to see what alternative drugs are covered (seems like that would be a part of their job, yea?), they said that is was Meijer policy that they cannot. So awful, I will recommend patients not to go to this pharmacy unless they know their prescription drug coverage very well (most people do not.), as Meijer pharmacies are apparently against doing people the courtesy of checking Rx drug coverage for patients. read more

No carts Available for shopping. Almost all the fish were dead...just floating in the dirty tanks. Garbage all over the parking lot. I usually like this Meijer but their standards are getting really low! And just now the guy is finally outside getting carts and runs into my car with one!!! Just unbelievable! read more
