Worst store in the Meijer chain. Typical trip today. No carts in the store, empty shelves and 2 cash registers open with very long slow moving lines. Avoid this store if at all possible! read more

Meijer is an odd place to review, but it has to be done. In this age of materialism and greed, it's a good practice to try and steer yourself away from personal brand associations, right? Well I don't care about any of that when it comes to Meijer. Meijer is, for all intents and purposes, everything you need in a store. Everything from groceries to the pharmacy, furniture, clothes, toys, tools and hardware, even a small pet section, Meijer is the place I would want to trap myself in if there was a zombie crisis (they do have a hunting section, too). Meijer is open 364 days a year (Christmas day being the exception) 24 hours a day. While away at school in Chicago, this was something I missed quite a bit, and whenever I made it home to Royal Oak for a weekend, you could probably find me late at night, wandering the aisles of Meijer. This is probably a sad thing to admit, but I don't care. I love this place. read more

Apologies in advance for the spelling and punctuation errors, as I dictated this instead of typing. I do not give out one star lightly, which is the only reason I haven't given once star to this Meyer location. Although this is the closest Meyer location for me, I have been known to intentionally drive to a slightly further location in order to avoid going to the store. I believe it may never have been renovated since it was built, or at least the isles have not been widened since the carts got significantly bigger. Traffic flow is thus unmanaged and people move it slow pieces or block aisles with considerable frequency. If that isn't sufficient to deter you from driving out of your way to visit this store, they also have difficulty for some reason managing their inventory. This means that many times when I visit they will be out of stock of an item I need, though it is never possible to predict whichit will be. Given that the convenience of Meyer is supposed to be one stop shopping, it defeats the purpose of this location to have to visit the Kroger store just up the street immediately after. read more

I like Meijer but their new grocery layout has taken the practice of arranging items to increase shopping time and spending to new depths. Nothing is where it seems to make any sense. Ice cream is at the front of the store so it can thaw completely by the time that they don't have the spices you're looking for. The produce is intermixed with the deli stuff so that you have to walk through plenty of high mark up items to get produce. Dairy is spread out along the side and back walls which makes in hard to go through the aisles sequentially. I like Meijer because they are more likely to have something than Kroger. However they need to be called out on blantant disregard for any kind of logic other than walking you past as many items as possible. read more

If you are looking for a good parking space, you better pack a lunch cause you're going to be waiting a long time---even for a moderately decent parking spot. Each lane has like 5 or 6 handicapped parking spaces and then about 1 or 2 parking spaces for carts. Unless you plan on coming at 1 am, good luck with finding a decent parking space. And even at 1 am, good luck! And their roads suck!! Seriously. Bumpy asphalt/pot hole city. While I'm not a fan of there bakery section because most things I've tried taste very mediocre, they tend to have a decent selection of the basics that you would need to get your shopping done. I've done full grocery shops here and have been ok. FYI, they are always scarce on ice cream for some reason. And the meat selection could be better and I've seen it scarce there before too. But if you're not too picky, you'll find what you need and be happy. And they always have good deals. And check-out is not so bad since they have plenty of self-check out lanes. Oh and there's a Huntington bank that stays open till like 8:00pm m-f and is also open on Saturday and sunday. read more

I was on vacation and forgot my medication. I called the Meyer pharmacy, where we usually pick up my prescription, to ask for help. They could not have been less helpful and less compassionate. I was so frustrated and disgusted with how I was spoken to while I was just trying to fix a simple problem. Very very disappointed with Meijer. read more

I have a terrible review for the pharmacy in the ROYAL OAK store. They are the rudest bunch of people that work here.I have no idea why they think they can treat customers however they wish.This was a great place to come to fill prescriptions but since the remodel there are a lot of different people and all of them seem miserable.My family has been coming here for a long time and we do not need to be treated like we don't matter to this business. It has gotten out of hand with the attitude and immaturity of these employee's. I think a re-training in customer service and handling of something as delicate as the pharmacy is in order. read more

Last night I shopped for the last time at Meijers because the do not allow what they call prebagging. This is a corporation rule, not just a local store's policy. This means if you bring your own shopping bags you cannot put items as you buy them in your own bags. I usually put produce in one bag, meat in another, detergents and soap in another and have a special bag for potted plants. Last night at Meijers on Michigan Ave. in Jackson, Michigan I had three pairs of men shoes in an oversize bag and they were sticking out of the bag and the clerk told my husband he couldn't put the shoes in the bag. No joke! And she wasn't pleasant about it. So I talked to the manager and she also told me that I could not pre-bag any itmes. Hmmm So if I buy 3 peaches can I prebag them in a plastic bag? Duh???? Then to top it off, she asked me how I got there, by bus? Oh, I'm disabled which is why prebagging helps keep stuff in the little basket area and enabled me to steer the cart. The bags they use at Meijers are all "one size fits nothing" and flimsy and often tear. They tip over in the car, too. I can't believe how some check out clerks bag items. I called corporate and they said YES that is their policy and that's it! She hooked me up with the manager of the Jackson store who I will say agreed with me and said he'd speak to clerk, who followed us around spying on us BTW and the manager and that yes, I could prebag. Doesn't matter because never again will I go to Meijers. If I want to be treated like a thief, might as well shop at Walmarts. Meijers also now has those bells and whistles go off when you leave the store even when you've paid for items and "detain" you as they search through your property. Legally once it is paid for, it is yours! Thank goodness for Amazon. Meijers has gone downhill through the years so those people that no longer have Meijers in their area, it isn't the Meijers you remember. Many items I look for they no longer carry. It use to be a very good store for shopping. read more

I dislike Meijer with a passion. True, the prices are quite reasonable (and the store brand string cheese is delicious), but this store is overall pretty awful, and I'd definitely be grocery shopping elsewhere if I had the money. If an item is on a good sale, it's almost never in stock, and sometimes it's less than clear what items are on sale and what aren't. The store is in need of a makeover, the floors and shelves are dirty, and the lighting isn't the best. The cashiers usually aren't friendly, and many are incredibly slow about their jobs. I've written Meijers' HQ with complaints in the past, and never got a response, which makes me feel less than valued as a customer. Going to Meijer on Sundays is also a stressful experience, with a lot of people in the store, you're bound to encounter a moron or two blocking the entire isle with a shopping cart while they're staring at the shelves as if they're seeking personal enlightenment from the frozen dinners. Either that, or you're going to see/hear a stressed family with at least one screaming knee-biter in tow. Avoid going there on Sundays if at all possible. However, I am pleased that Meijer decided several years back to not carry live pets, with the exception of aquatic life. If they could now phase out the fish, that would be great, as I see far too many floaters in the tanks. read more

Went here last night and after checking out I tried to exchange $10 cash for a roll of quarters. The jerk behind the front refused in the rudest way possible. He just said "nope", I asked why and he said it against company policy. Didn't even apologize for the inconvenience. I've gotten quarter there before and the cashier was going to give me one but she didn't have any. The front desk guy was just a jerk. It's not the first time I've had problems there. I went to Walgreens and they were willing to help me no questions asked. read more

Just home from my last shopping trip to Meijer. I went because I had an auto clip coupon from Mperks for 10 % off general merchandise. It should register once I put my account info in their system but, NO, as usual I did not get my 10 % off and the sales associate was of no help. Essentially Meijer stole $10 from me. This store should be an embarrassment to upper management in Grand Rapids but I guess they don't read Yelp. We have been in the area for 25 years and this is the worst Meijer's in the state. It has been re-modeled twice but the problem is management. They just do not care how long their lines are and I got stuck in another one today. The cashier Felicia was having a long conversation with the coupon queen in front of us. It took forever to get through the line as there were only 4 registers open. The U-Scan line was just as bad. I suggested that she inform upper management that they might send the manager's of the Royal Oak store over to the Madison Height store and learn how to run a store. We have never waited in a long line over there and they are always well stocked. I registered with Yelp years ago and even the worst stores in Hawaii are better than this Meijer's . Fred Meijer must be rolling in his grave at "you are next in line" because your Ice Cream will melt in those lines. read more

I'm done shopping at this store. They may have good prices but their customer service is terrible. I was next in line and the woman left the self-checkout so I went up. The clerk taking care of this said she isn't done and will be back. So I said now what do I have to get back in line again? He just walked away so I walked away with a cart full of merchandize and left it there right in front of a line of customers. This store has many checkout lanes yet they prefer to make you wait in line longer than it takes to shop in the store. Their employees walk around like they are the "living dead". Whoever is the general manager of this store should be fired for allowing this type of customer relations to exist. read more

I have lived in royal oak for two years and I always go here for all my shopping needs, extremely fresh fruits and vegetables, they have a great pharmacist as well read more
