The woman working the self checkout near the produce section today needs an attitude check. I work at the hospital so out of most people I understand not wanting to get sick right now. But theres no need to cop an attitude with me when asking me to move back, I was maybe 3 ft away from her and theres not much room between those registers. Where did she want me to go? Outside? The first time I stepped into a Meijer, I felt like I was in a movie. Meijer is a superstore that is very generic, yet very Michigan. It looks a little bit like a Walmart, with the same types of products and services, but with different fonts and signage. You can get everything you need in one stop: craft beer, boxed hair dye, live goldfish, undies, hunting gear, jewelry, gardening tools, craft supplies, and more. Bonus: Gas prices are typically very competitive. Not quite as good as Costco, but usually less expensive than other stations in the area. Even after years of coming here, it seems nowhere is quite like Meijer. I think Target carries nicer stuff, but the 24/7 hours is still what brings me here. I wish they had more floor help, but the people who help (when you can find one) are helpful and friendly. When you need groceries in a pinch at 3am, you can't go wrong here. read more

Edited 7/17 I really do like Meijer. I do the majority of my shopping here. I like the prices, selection & products. I work nearby, so I stop 3-4 nights per week. Usually I'm here between 10-11pm which offers the advantage of being less busy. I use self check out 99% of the time. Employees are pretty helpful if needed. I wouldn't say they have friendly employees, but they certainly aren't rude. The managers and most workers never greet customers upon crossing paths, which would be a welcoming touch. Since my review a year or so ago, they have been very good about keeping most items in stock. I do wish they would keep the "cut up" rotisserie chicken on hand more often. They haven't had any in weeks. The cut up seedless watermelon has also been low. Overall a great place to shop with the majority of items I need. They have great bakery items. Yum! read more

I like this store in general, but recently discovered their True Goodness brand has added sugar (molasses) to the peanut butter and it has added cane sugar to the broths. Adding sugar to a health brand is a sure way to lose market share. Maybe they thought their customers wouldn't notice. As far as this class of store is concerned, Meijer is better than it's competitors (except for the Rochester/M-59 store which is the most godawful store I've ever been to). I'm disappointed that I can only find the large bags of brown basmati rice at the Rochester/M-59 location. I'm giving this store 3 stars instead of 4 because I'm pissed that I had to spend twice as much on Smuckers Organic Peanut Butter as I would have on True Goodness. read more

We usually exclusively shop Meijer. That being said, this place is awful. Finish your construction or close. They should not be allowed to sell food during construction. The health department should be involved. Dusty, dirty, rotten food. I have dusted debris off boxes/cans. I tried handing a Meijer employee a bag of extremely moldy cheese and she responded "I don't want that!" Sometimes you can't get through the aisles because there are hi-lo's driving around. I had to duck under some horizontal poles to get down another aisle. No signs. No aisles closed. They should have, at the very least, not been 24 hours during construction. Close at 10 pm and do your welding, drilling, sawing, squealing, pounding and let the hi-lo's run wild. read more

So since I'm on a diet I haven't been posting about great places to buy craft beer, eat fat burgers or decadent desserts. But what I have been doing is buying healthy food that helps me watch my waistline and pocket book at this Meijer. They have a pretty wide selection of vegetables and fresh fruit in stock most days when I go there. It's also clean and the people are friendly enough. However, and this is not this stores fault, the new floor plan sucks and because of it they carry less items. read more

Stuff is always sold out and I have never waited in line for any less than 20 minutes. The checkout lines are like 10 carts long each because they usually only have a few lines open. The employees are always super nice though so I will give them that. I think they are just short staffed. Totally recommend shopping at the Royal Oak Meijer if you enjoy being falsely accused for shop lifting. I was shopping around 9pm last night when I had a secret shopper come up to me and tell me to give her all the items I had stolen and come with her. Please keep in mind I had a basket full. After questioning her, she did not look at the security footage herself and told me to hang on why she made a call... after she made her call I was told to continue shopping why she went to go look at the cameras. When I went to go check out (and spent over $100) I asked and she still didn't "get the chance" to look at the footage but she said "we were good" and she trusted and appreciated that I did not steal from her store....for future reference before you accuse someone of being a thief (before they even walk out of your store) please make sure you're talking to one. Just left your royal oak, mi. Store. Ran in to buy a $100 meijer gift card. There was ONE lane open with at least ten people in it, with baskets full of food. Asked if I could do it at self check out or at customer service and was told it had to be with a cashier. Needless to say..... I walked out without my purchase! Every time I'm there the lines are so long to checkout... there are never enough lanes open to accommodate your shoppers! It is absolutely infuriating!!! am i grocery snob? nah... can't be. but, i like my holiday market so much... and this meijer was such a crappy experience... i think i just... yep... i just had an idea. i'm a grocery snob. i went to this meijer in my never ending experience to find a decent bike at a decent price (not gonna happen in this century) and realized i needed coffee, milk and a couple of other essentials. and when i say coffee and essential in the same sentence, forget italics... there isn't a font invented that can slant / bold / capitalize the word essential enough for you to pick up what i'm puttin down. and as i strolled up and down the aisles of this ultra crowded sugar infested haven of my youth, i realized that i really dislike meijer. i think it has gone from what was once a decent quality, for a decent (even above average?) price point... to shrugging its shoulders and throwing its hands in the air... "we can't do it anymore" i can hear the slimy roast beef behind the deli counter saying to me. Please don't waste your time. Even with the make over on the physical store there isn't enough staff. The ones with good attitudes are completely over shadowed by ones with bad attitudes. Two days before Christmas, lines on all checkouts ate at least six people deep and the cashiers are taking forever and there are only two checkouts open besides the self checkout lanes. read more

I wish I could give this place no stars! This has to be one of the worst Meijer locations in Michigan. It's no secret the sell expired meat and produce with mold and gnats on it. When these concerns are brought to managements attention they give you attitude. They never have shopping carts in the store so you the customer have to go on a scavenger hunt through the parking lot to find a cart! The employees are always standing around doing nothing and they have the most ghetto incompetent managers in this store. Meijer website claimed a Tracfone SIM card kit was in stock at Detroit, Madison Heights, and Royal Oak. I drove to all three stores. None of them had it in stock, and the employees didn't even seem to know what it was. Tried to contact Meijer through their website, but the form doesn't work properly, so I had to complain by phone. Got a rather obtuse man who seemed to have great difficulty following what I was saying, despite obviously being fluent in English, undoubtedly his native language. His response, once he finally understood, is that "we always tell people to call the department and talk to an employee to make sure an item is in stock." First of all, "we" don't tell people that... nothing on their website says that. It said "in stock." Second, calling won't help if the employees in electronics don't even know what a SIM card kit is! Not too thrilled with Meijer right now. Got the SIM card kit at Target... plenty in stock, same price. read more

Would like to give a big shout out to Cindy and Gary, managers of the Toy Department. They went above and beyond (especially Gary) in helping replace my child's bike. The bike was almost a year old and still under warranty. My daughter had infrequently ridden the bike. When for some reason the crank system just started to fall apart. We contacted the manufacturer, who really wouldn't do too much for us. This was brought to the attention of the folks, at Meijer and they stepped up to the plate. Thank you very much! read more

Normally it would seem that there's nothing to Yelp about at Meijers. I mean everyone knows what Meijers is, right? Quality food, good organics selection and a little bit of everything else. But even after years and years of shopping here I had never stepped into the garden center. Let me tell you, I'm stopping at the Meijer Garden Center first next year. There was a excellent selection of vegetable plants, annuals and perennials. Who knew? They were are so healthy, big and best of all WATERED. If you are a fan of landscaping and gardening like I am then I know that you've noticed that this year everyone stopped watering their plants for sale. They looked terrible. Not so Meijer! The staff was taking excellent care of every plant and they were big,healthy and very reasonably priced. Great job Meijers. I'll be buying a lot more next year too. read more

Exceptional pharmacist! This is my usual pharmacy but today I came with a new insurance and I wasn't sure if the Rx toothpaste was covered. Miss Vivian spent more than 30 minutes calling my insurance. At the end it was rejected. It was a bummer but what struck me was how professional, calm and patient she was with the whole situation. I greatly appreciated her efforts. I usually get good service from other pharmacists here too. read more

Anyone that knows the Meijer history knows that Meijer predates WalMart, being founded in Greenville Michigan during the depression. WalMart could learn a thing or 3 from Meijer in fact. Meijer originated the superstore concepts of 1 stop shopping and being open 24hrs. Hopefully they remember what made them special and do whatever they can to retain that specialness. Will never go back to this store. Being that my girlfriend was living around the block and since we both work at a bar the hours are convenient. For so long I shrugged off the absolutely horrible customer service and disrespect, because hey it's late no one wants to be at work. This time I'm fed up, she went to the store and bought me 2 Xbox games as a gift. One of the boxes was not wrapped in plastic, something she wouldn't know to check as neither of us are avid gamers, but it still had the sticker on the side and was missing the disc. Mind you she did not handle the games until they were purchased. I then contacted the store and the same girl Diamond, tried telling me she clearly remembered the game being wrapped. When I asked for a manager she set the phone down and as I listened to her and other employees chit chat for a couple minutes finally the manager got on the phone, "Val" was very short and disrespectful about the situation. She did not take down any of my information or do anything except tell me I was going to have to deal with it tomorrow. I understand that it might be out of her power, but to not document anything and act so bothered is not ok. read more

Beware their pharmacy services. Should your insurance company request your pharmacy records it will take them months to facilitate leaving you to deal with the calls from the providers of service bcuz the claims cannot be adjudicated. Their CS # VM even states it will take them at least 4-5 weeks to address such a request. I have had better CS from the Federal govt. They will not even respond to calls on this matter in the executive office. so much for Fred Meijer's lip service to his patrons "Customers dont need us, we need them". read more

Today was the worst experience I've had here with the employees. I went to go try on clothes and was told to leave my cart right outside the changing-room area. As I opened the door one of the female employees yelled "PARK YOUR BUGGY SOMEWHERE ELSE, THIS IS MY WORK STATION" are you fricken kidding me!? She wasn't even joking. I was in shock that I had just been screamed at by a grown ass woman. How rude, especially since one of her fellow employees told me that's where I had to leave my cart. 5 minutes later I'm looking in the plant section and some lady (possibly manager) came up to me and asked if I needed anything in the most unfriendly/cold tone. She then proceeded to literally spy on me looking at the plants as if I was going to steal the planters. Ummm. What. Never in my life have I ever been looked down on like that by an employee at any store I've ever been to. Last but not least, as I'm walking down the hair care isle there's a group of younger employees probably around 19 or so, slacking off/being obnoxious af and acting like work was a place to hangout and catch up. I will never give this location the time of day ever again and will gladly tell my family & friends who go there to go to the location on Adams rd. Love this store. I have been shopping at Meijer's for years. The store is always clean and prices clearly marked. They recently got new shopping carts even tho the ones they had were in pretty good shape. I can't stand carts that are hard to push straight. If you are a newer patient BEWARE. The pharmacists will need to call your doctor to confirm the prescription, but they won't make sure to call during actual office hours, or to call more than once during office hours to get the response they need. You may end up out of luck and out of medication for the weekend if your doctor's office isn't open on the weekend. The manager will be happy to let you know your prescriptions aren't ready due to their incompetence. read more
