Incompetent, is the best word I would use to describe my customer service at meineke today. Many things went wrong with my vehicles visit to the shop today. First they were an hour late to get my car into the shop despite me arriving at the scheduled appointment time, then they needed to get the part, then they got the wrong part, then they sent some one out to get the right part again.... so 4 hours later my car finally has the right brake pads replaced. I asked them to "make it right". They refused to take any thing off my bill despite wasting 4 hours of my day. Then they over charge me 200$, credit it to my account 2-3 business days. If your on a tight budget that could mean food on the table. They should have at least taken labor off my bill as it's not my fault they had the wrong brakes, sent some one out to get the wrong brakes, then have to go out again to get the right brakes. Items were stolen from my car, I was over charged for services I was never told about and overcharged for services I explicitly said I didn't want at Meineke (899 Central Ave, Dover, NH). These are not statements I would ever make lightly. I went to get 2 snow tires put on my car and was told I could get a free state inspection. I asked to have the tires, free state inspection and oil change done to my car. They charged me for an engine and cabin air filter without ever asking me if I'd like that done. I had just replaced both of them 2 months prior and they did not need replacing. When they pulled them out of the trash to show me, both of them were both still clean and white. Their response was "well when I ask people, they usually just have us do it." I was asked if I wanted synthetic oil, I said no and to give me the cheapest option. When I inspected my bill, I noticed I was charged $75 for the oil change. When I asked why it was so expensive, they told me that it was synthetic oil. After explaining that I didn't want synthetic oil and I've never put synthetic oil in that car, his response was "well I don't write down every time someone tells me they don't want synthetic oil." I also noticed on the bill that I was also charged $40 for a state inspection that I was told was free. The guy behind the desk said that my state inspection couldn't be free, but next time I come in, that state inspection will be free. When I went to get into my car, I noticed my center console compartment had been opened (it is always closed) and that both my iPod and Hyundai specific connector cable was taken out. I've owned the car for 9 years and never listen to the radio, always my iPod that's connected to the car in that compartment, I was listening to it on the way to drop off the car at Meineke. I asked the guy behind the desk and the first thing he says is "I'm not responsible for your property" then mumbling audibly under his breath "people shouldn't leave shit in their car." He insisted that he locks the cars every night and that his guys didn't have the capacity to steal it. I asked if he could review the cameras to see what happened to it and he told me there were no cameras on the property. I am now out $1300 for what should have only been $207 worth of work and I am now working with Dover PD to try and recover my iPod. read more

I went in for an inspection. I sat waiting for 1.5 hour and was told my car wouldn't pass inspection. I was handed a receipt of specific things needed to be done and the grand total was $1999. They told me all these things wrong with my car and I left absolutely broken thinking I would have to pay all this for an inspection. I went to another garage, told them what happened, showed them the pictures and details of why my car wasn't being passed and they laughed. Made an appointment over a week in advance for an oil change. Dropped the car off 10 minutes early and was told "it might be a little bit until it goes in" returned two hours later to find my car had not been touched and was told "It's going in next." I politely asked for my keys and left. I understand things go wrong especially in the vehicle service industry, but I would've appreciated some kind of a heads up either when making the appointment or dropping off the car that it was at a bad time and I might want to reschedule. I thought everyone there was great. Prices came in within estimate and timing was good. My regular mechanic was on vacation and they fixed my a/c just before a heatwave. It wasn't cheap but they're never cheap to fix. Price was right in the ballpark of what I was expecting. Paul's a little rough around the edges but I don't expect my mechanic to be genteel. I found him quite pleasant. Old school garage guy. I felt like he was straightforward, which, as the son of a mechanic, I appreciate. Showed me the part they replaced. They gave me a free inspection and quote. Turned about to be a seized caliber in one of my tires which had damaged the brake pad and rotor. I posted a review three years ago which has been relegated to the "not recommended" area. In light of today's occurrences, however, it should be "highly recommended," because we were not only screwed three years ago, we now are going to pay tons of extra dough to undo what Paul and his rip-off artists did to the car. Here's my original blurb: I shall not say one bad word about the proprietor; I will state the facts, you may draw your own conclusion. In the first phone call when I described the problem with my daughter's car and how I expected the work done, I wanted to be sure he understood I wanted a bolted-on system, no cutting, no welding. He proceeded to have his trained ape cut off the flanges and weld the system together. He installed a Walker pipe and charged me $239.78 for the part. I can buy the same exact part on Rock Auto for $84.79 or at Advance Auto Parts for $120. He made up a "sleeve," an eight inch piece of pipe worth $10 to join the components where he had the flanges cut off. His price for the part: $150. The car also had a CEL showing, so he told my daughter on the phone he was going to change a sensor, and she said, "You should call my father." He did not call me; he changed the wrong part (if he and his so-called mechanic knew anything they would have changed the air-fuel sensor, not the O2 sensor). That part was $129.56. I went to the store to complain, and he told me, "I knew you were going to be trouble." Anybody who knows anything is going to be trouble to this guy. The $150 sleeve installation was a totally botched job. The angle was wrong in aiming the system toward the back of the car, and the overall length of the system was too long. We had all sorts of resonances, the system was falling off the hangers, and the rear muffler failed because of the excessive pressure against it being bound up against the rear bumper. I finally had my personal mechanic fix this can of worms these cretins had created. RUN! DO NOT WALK! GET AWAY FROM THIS PLACE EVEN IF IT'S A LIFE AND DEATH EMERGENCY. I had to give a star, I wish it could have been negative. We went for an inspection today at a reputable repair shop. Where Paul et. al., had cut off the flanges and welded in his $150 sleeve, we now have serious leaks. The shop wants to install new parts which will be bolted together as per manufacturer. They want to use new parts and replace the entire system, which will cost $2,100. This is why I told Paul to not cut off the flanges; I did not want a welded-together system. The most ironic thing he said to me was, I'm just trying to save her a couple bucks." Now we're in the hole for a totally substandard job three years ago which will cost hundreds to undo today. Got to say that based on previous reviews I would not use this business for service but it was the only service station that my car could limp to. It was making a horrible grinding sound from the front passenger wheel, I thought for sure it was a bad wheel bearing and thought there goes $600 plus I knew at this late hour it wasn't getting fixed tonight and I was more than an hour from home with no easy ride to be had. I parked the truck and walked into a busy reception area where the fellow behind the counter read my facial expression and asked me what was wrong. Told him what I expected was the problem and after a short discussion he had one of the mechanics clear a lift and instructed him what to look for. 15 minutes later I was driving down the highway my truck good as new. Turns out it was just a faulty backer plate that was rubbing against a moving part. The charge for the service was so very reasonable. If the previous reviews are to be believed I would have been taken advantage of but not the case at all. I highly recommend this establishment it is top notch in my opinion. If I could put into words how bad this experience was, it would be a short story, well here it goes. First I made the appointment online and not less than two days before after I made arrangements with work, Paul called me and told me suddenly he needed to cancel it because, he was short a guy. No remorse and no care just dry. I dropped my car off on Friday he had it all Weekend and got to it Monday afternoon LATE, it was not done till AFTER hours and he told merit would be done Monday. He charged me way more than he quoted pretending he gave me a deal, than the car was sent for An alignment which I didn't even fully need, he also was TOLD to leave my Gas Cap Check light on and HAD I not called to remind him it was about to be tested. It gets worse despite all that from 479-520 for a damn tire rod, alignment and labor, paul told me he would leave the car with keys in it parked at his shop. I advised him I work late and he said no problem it will be here, he NEVER called me to let me know it was NOT done that night. I advised him I would walk to get the car, could have been raped,mugged etc. My car was not there. I called the shop the police and Paul's excuse was it was held up, that's very funny considering his guy went up there at 3:45 and suddenly didn't return till after close and left my car there? How the hell did the worker get back to the shop? no apologies just excuses, he is horrible at customer service and no respect or care for his customers. I have been retired from the fast lube idustry for the last 10 years. I am very reluctant to bring my car anywhere. Then I happened to find Paul. I thought for sure my car needed a front CV Shaft and was prepaired to spend a couple hundred dollars. Paul told me I needed to leave my car and he would call me when it was done. Before I got home Paul called and told me the car was all set to come back and get it. When I got there he told me one of the shields was grinding on the front wheel. Thankfully Meineke is right off the highway and even arriving after 4pm the owner and his guy were able to replace my back brakes before they closed and had me back out on the highway. I got to the shop about a half hour later. They wrote me up and took my vehicle into the shop. They tested my charging system to make sure everything else was ok. Stay away! Do not Use! Not worth the hassle / head-ache! I booked an appointment using the number listed on the website, when I arrived at the shop they "had no record" of my appointment. I called the number back and truthfully they are an appointment setting service for the independent stores. They swore that they had provided the information to the shop so neither party was accepting responsibility for a mistake. A week later I was called by the corporate mediation center in Charlotte NC where all they did was apologize for the inconvenience. The manager of the store is somewhat hostile, and if you don't like dogs and or are afraid of them, be careful as he has an old vicious dog in the store. The moment I spoke with the manage communicating my frustrations with them the dog snarled at me and postured in an attacking manner. Do yourself a favor if you are looking for customer service, stay away from Meineke period. You won't find any reasonable experience at the store or with Meineke, ever. read more

I had the worst experience ever here. The manager in Dover is unreasonable and takes advantage of his customers. I took my fairly new car in for state inspection and it was rejected for brake pads. Due to his estimated repair costs I took it elsewhere and when I went back for the stickers he was going to charge me again. He overcharges for a state inspection in the first place and legally can't charge a recheck fee but does. Save your time and money and go elsewhere! Please avoid this place! Man I wish I read all these other pooor reviews before I brought my car here. I got my brakes repaired in December since they provided me with a reasonable and competive quote over the phone. I had to wait for my car to be finished there since I couldn't leave it. After waiting for over 2 hours, the delivery guy brought the wrong brake parts, which resulted in me waiting an additional 2 hours for the right parts to be delivered, and for them to do an oil change. Then at the last minute, I was told my check engine light was on and I needed a part (I believe they said it was a faulty o2 sensor, which I knew didn't seem right since I had recently had it replaced at the VW dealership). 4 hours later, my car is ready and yep my check engine light is on, which it hadn't been before. Being a VW, I know how quirky of a car they can be so I let it go, thinking it was probably just another unrelated issue. I will say however, that I didn't have a good feeling when I left Meineke. A few weeks later and my brakes started squeaking, even though they hadn't before when I actually did need them replaced. I figured it was perhaps the cold weather or ice or something stuck in them. However 2 months later and they are still sqeaking. In addition, a few days ago my car started "chugging" on the interstate. Yesterday it got much worse, so I popped the hood to check the fluids, etc. Thats when I noticed a disconnected wire that wasn't there before. I plug it back in and volla! My car is running fine "for now" and my check engine light went off. I found this very interesting since I hadn't brought it to anyone else since I had brought it there. The fact that my check engine light only came on once I took it there makes me think they were trying to get me to purchase an additional part that I did not actually need. I've seen it all too many times where auto repair shops take advantage of people, thinking customers, especially women are too dumb to know they are being lied to and taken advantage of. I called today to let Paul, the guy who runs the place know of the issues I experienced since I brought my car there. He had no recollection of the part I needed, but offered to hook it up to the code reader ($$) and take a look at my squeaky brakes. Upon arriving, I was told that I would have to wait over an hour for a State inspection to be done on the establishment's computer system. Why wasn't I told about this as soon as they knew about it, instead of when I had arrived and they were half way through it? Well, I decided to wait it through. The inspection was costly, about $75. I paid $30 for the exact same work just north of Boston at a Meineke. After being charged more than I had discussed including getting an oil change I didn't request and the reason was - "I do a lot of these things and I though it was on the job order". Wait a minute, YOU DON'T LOOK AT JOB ORDERS AND DO WORK TO CARS THAT DON'T NEED IT BECAUSE YOU DO A LOT OF OIL CHANGES? REALLY? More likely the low hanging fruit stuck on my windshield was too tempting for you to pass up. Very good shop, no b.s. from Paul in the front. Honest and efficient! I used to have jeeps and could do basically any minor repair myself but now with a VW I need the pros, went in originally with a transmission issue, been going to them ever since. No one would touch my VW for a transmission service except a vw dealership, I was quoted at $450 at the dealership, Paul took it in and in just a couple hours my car was returned for a fraction of the cost, $175 plus fluid. I had a great experience at the Dover Meineke...I knocked my car out of alignment on a pothole and bent the front rim. I was really ticked because I had JUST gotten a new rim about two months prior (I have bad luck with potholes). The folks there got me in right away, confirmed that I had bent the rim badly, and got me a great deal on a replacement (especially compared to what I had paid two months prior). They allowed me to keep my vehicle there for a few days when I was travelling for work and when I came back it was good as new. I was treated fairly and I found the service to be great. The manager was a nice person. We talked while I was waiting for my car to get done. They also gave me a free state inspection sticker for the next year since the service charge was higher than a limit. Very satisfied. Recommend this place to others! read more
