I actually cannot believe how much of a disappointment this was. A lot of the reviews on Google are old but I found more recent ones on Yelp and thought I finally found the spa for me. I was looking to find a spa in the area that had (1) a great masseuse with a membership option and (2) a clean, private and quiet ambiance so that I would not be disturbed while massaged. Lets start with ambiance. For sure the place is very clean. One of the reasons I picked Sulis was their relaxation room, locker room and shower. The relaxation room is nice but right off the bat it is hard to relax in it. One of the doors (the one that doesn't get used) is right next to the reception desk. So if anyone else is checking in or chatting you hear their entire conversation clearly through the door. This should be an easy fix though. If all the massage rooms have sound machines, the relaxation room should as well or at least something to block out the sound should be put near that door. The locker room was much smaller than I thought and is definitely cramped and not private if more than one or two people are in there besides you. It was clean though. The shower was fine but did not get hot. I turned the temp all the way up and got a warm shower. Worse was that there were no towels available in the locker room. One was not offered to me when I checked in and there wasn't one in my locker. I tried looking for a staff member to give me a towel but upstairs had become a ghost town and I was not going downstairs in just a robe. This meant that I didn't have a proper towel to shower with (I knew they were available since I saw navy towels in a used bin in the locker room). Disappointing for sure as I ended up finding the equivalent of a clean dish towel and used that for my whole body. As to the massage, this for sure was the most frustrating part. I can honestly say it was the worst massage I ever had. I felt like I got someone who was inexperienced in massages or that I was her last client of the day and she put no effort in. I booked the "pure massage" which is your standard Swedish massage and I told the therapist I wanted medium pressure. I've gone for massages before so I really know what medium is meant to be like. This was soft/light pressure. Basically it was the masseuse gliding her hands across my body with no pressure at all. Multiple times I asked for her to use harder pressure and she would for 30 seconds and then go back to no pressure at all. The massage was also uneven and inconsistent, what she did on my right side she didn't do on my left. Really it just felt like she was making it up as she went along. I also paid for a 60 minute massage which started 15min late and then ended after only 50 minutes. So I came 10 minutes early, was more than ready by 3:30, the masseuse started at 3:45 and by 4:35 she left. I did not mind starting late as I thought it would be the case based on another review but why did 10 minutes get cut off? The positives about the massage include (1) the noise machine which really did block out a lot (there was still some talking I could hear but minimal); (2) the massage bed was comfy; (3) the hot towel for my face was nice; and (4) the masseuse used a lot of oil/lotion etc instead of being stingy about it. I came to treat myself after finishing my last semester of law school expecting to feel refreshed and that I would have finally found the right massage place for me but left frustrated and disappointed. read more

I went here today with a gift card from my siblings for my birthday. Chelsea gave me a 60 minute deep tissue massage. It was amazing. I started by being greeted immediately downstairs and showed my way upstairs. All the staff was friendly and welcoming. After checking in I was brought to the locker room and asked which I'd prefer. I was given a robe and slippers for my shoe size. The robe was soft and comfy, after changing I was told to go to the tranquility room. The room was stocked with 8-10 different teas and a few snacks. The room was also infused with essential oils, very relaxing. The massage room was the standard room. Bed was heated/comfy. She checked on my throughout the massage to make sure the pressure was right. When leaving I was asked about a membership. I was just there on Friday with a wedding party. The wedding was near Morristown, yet we schlepped here for the sole fact that the bride's hair was done perfectly here. That cannot be said for the rest of us. To be honest, I should have done my hair myself as I do hair and makeup all the time. But I figured it would be nice to all be with each other for this. Let's start with the music. I worked in salons for many years and when there is bridal party, you are to cater to the party for the exclusivity feeling. That didn't happen. They said they had Pandora and that's why their music was terrible. I, too, own a business and my recommendation for them is to get Spotify. It may not be free like Pandora, but it is $10/month to choose any music of your choice. That was a red flag when they couldn't change the music. I was already hesitant in going to the salon because from experience, salons usually do a tacky-do and then say "it will fall by the time for wedding". And each and every time it happens to me, it never falls and I look terrible. All I asked was for look curls and some volume. The girl who was doing my hair had nice hair, so I felt comforted by that. WRONG! I had so much product in my hair, that I felt I was wearing a helmet of teased hair with a ton of product. But what's worse, it looked like I was wearing a helmet! I was livid, and I mentioned it to the girl that I didn't like it, but again, she mentioned it will "fall". I didn't want to get upset in front of the bride. So I paid, tipped and left. Only to go home, brush out ALL the product that made my hair hard as a rock and re do it myself. I was then getting text messages from the other girls how they hated their hair and another hated her makeup. One of the bridesmaid legit looked like a clown. Her face makeup was 10 shades lighter than her neck. She looked like she aged about 50 yrs. When she told the "makeup artist" she did not like it, she basically said she couldn't do anything about it because it will sink in her skin. Something crazy like that. The worst part, her makeup costed her $100+tip. Luckily, I know how to do my hair so I re did that. I did my own make up, fixed the bridesmaid with the clown makeup, and had to fix the bride's mother's makeup. This salon just added more stress to an already stressful day. They made all of us pay in full. Were not apologetic, to me, at least. I basically could have done all the girls' hair and makeup. read more

I am torn. I really wanted to like this place but I left my facial experience unimpressed and disappointed. I go to facial appts not to relax or be pampered, but to help manage combination skin, especially in my T-zone area. I value places that provide a thorough cleaning and extraction. As one of my previous aesthetician quipped, "If you want to relax, get a massage, not a facial." I booked an appointment by telephone and was advised to come 10 mins before to fill out paperwork, which I did. After the paperwork was done they showed me to the locker room to change into a robe and slippers. Then I went into the lounge, which was supplied with a range of herbal teas. So far, so good. Very nice space, and because phones weren't allowed, I sat and waited. And waited. And waited. 18 minutes go by after my appointment time. What is going on? Did the aesthetician know I'm here? Finally, I propped up my courage and opened the door back out into reception. The receptionist who greeted me is now chatting with another girl and a third person. There were no other customers in sight. I had to interrupt their conversation to ask what was going on, as it is now after my appointment time. The receptionist immediately launched into the rapid-fire-canned-response-mode (you know, the tone that customer service reps use to try and cower you into submission with their super fast, know it all 'professional' voice?) and started telling me that an additional 15 mins is incorporated so I can get comfortable, change into the robe and complete paperwork. Paperwork? But wait... isn't that why I came 10 mins early? If I knew I had 15 mins to slither out of my clothes and dawdle in a tranquility room, why would I come early at all? One of the girls who were there chatting then said that she was the one that will be doing the facial and that she is ready for me now. She didn't introduce herself. No one offered an apology. I actually ended up being the one apologizing for interrupting their conversation. The facial itself was ok; extractions were done. I left the appt an hour and a half after the scheduled time. The next day my chin started having tiny breakouts. This has never happened at previous places I have visited, including facials @ Massage Envy. So sad. I am moving to Toms River next month & you better believe I will be traveling an hour and a half to come here. My hair has been absolutely beautiful and healthy since I started coming here. They offer so much! The massages and facials are divine (they have groupons!) Saturday mornings they have bagels and coffee and mimosas. I have done the keratin express a few times and just recently had the full Keratin and absolutely LOVE it! They also have a nail salon that is in the back but I have never gone there. It was my first time coming to this salon and my first time booking with the stylist Katelyn , I wanted a cut with a blow out. I do have very curly hair and I called to ask if they had any curly specialist and they recommend Katelyn. I will say that Katelyn did a good job on the hair cut , as for the blow out , it came out terrible. As soon as I left the hair salon my hair puffed up instantly and did not even last me a whole day. I was very disappointed with my blow out especially since they recommend this stylist to me for my curly hair. I messaged the stylist to see if we could find a solution , maybe a partial refund or something else to compensate me for my money that I spent which was very pricey. Katelyn never got back to me and when I called the manager stated that they don't give refunds, which I find ridiculous that they have no solutions to giving their clients compensation if the work was not done properly. If you have curly hair or a person of color and have textured natural hair , I would not recommend this salon to you as they have a certain type of hair texture they can achieve blow outs on. Walking into Melandre you would never guess you were in Nutley. The space is very trendy, modern and looks like a salon you'd see in the city. I went here for a massage and I have to say it was the best massage i've ever had. I had Chelsea as my masseuse and she was wonderful. I told her where my trouble spots were and not only was she very attentive to them she was also very informative and gave me advice on how to avoid re-aggravating them in the future. A very much due review here for Melandre... I came for a massage a few months ago (which was excellent btw)- I should probably write a separate review on my massage/spa experience. It was my first time at coming to this place but had heard good things about this spa. After my spa experience and seeing all the hustle and bustle downstairs at the salon, I got curious and checked out reviews on it. Well, like most busy/popular salons found really good reviews and some not so good, so decided to find out on my own. And I'll tell you right now, so sooo happy with my decision. I am super picky with the products I use and what I do to my hair and was very pleased to see top of the line products and knowledgeable staff. I went for color and haircut. I wanted highlights, I'm not exactly the one that comes in knowing exactly what she wants but knew I wanted something that looked natural yet sophisticated... well my color specialist nailed it! As far as haircut, I was looking for to change up my haircut a bit, something sexy but that I was still able to style on my own at home. I have been a client for years and the service here has always been impeccable. Wednesday night, I went in for a blowout with Antonia (I hope I'm spelling her name correctly). Midway through, I began to get dizzy and nauseous (I suffer from vertigo). Antonia was beyond accommodating and kind. She got me a cup of water, made sure windows were open to give me air, removed my smock so I could cool off, and completed my blowout quickly and professionally. I bought a Groupon on Thursday and scheduled an appointment for today. My Groupon was for an illuminating/collagen facial that was originally $135 but was only $75 via Groupon. I thought it was a great idea since I was in need of a facial. I usually get facials every 3 months that include extractions of white and black heads. This particular facial began with a cleansing and then several masks. Then with proceeded with the "extractions" that literally did no justice. Once my facial was done, I went and checked for myself and I was extremely disappointed. I can give myself a better facial with some tools I bought on amazon and my iPhone flashlight. My face does feel much softer but definitely not worth all that money. I don't think I'm going back there because it is pricey and definitely not a real facial. I visited Sulis Spa for a facial with Valerie. It was a wonderful and lengthy (in a good way) experience. She was very thorough in explaining what daily treatment would work best for my skin and didn't push the spa's products on me (I HATE when they do that). The basic facial includes much more upper body massage time than I've experienced at other spas which was very relaxing. I left with skin that was less red and more supple than I have after facials at other places. I will definitely be returning. read more
