Came here on a Saturday noon time and there was a tiny line up. Not too bad! But by 2 or 3pm, there's a big line up out the door, so my tip is to GET HERE EARLY! We got the Matcha Dipped donut, Vanilla regular brioche donut, lemon regular brioche donut, and the Cereal Milk Brioche Donut. I have to say I was very impressed with all of them. The Matcha Dipped Donut had a very nice bitterness to it. The donut was also very soft and the dipped part was melt-in-your-mouth. I absolutely LOVED the Cereal Milk Brioche Donut because it was so fluffy and so well made. I love the fact that it was less sugary than I thought it would be. A MUST TRY THIS ONE!!!!! The Vanilla and Lemon brioche donuts were very fluffy as well and that sugar on the outside just gives it a great texture. All in all, a great donut place and also amazingly fast service! Saw all the pictures and videos everywhere and well had to try these because my weakness is strawberries and cream and everything bagels with lots of cream cheese.. went a little after 1 and sign was up they would have fresh donuts after 2pm, must've sold out? Ordered 2 everything bagel, 2 strawberries and cream, 1 X Nutella and 1 X salted caramel. The salted caramel was a bit too sweet? The Nutella was ok but for the price, hence why 4 stars instead of 5. The strawberries and cream one was sooooo fricken good. Reminded me of going to Myeongdong in Korea and eating all the fresh street food and there were these brioche donuts there as well which brought me back into time when we can freely travel and eat anything! The everything bagel donut was super light and the cream cheese was fluffy. Highly recommend you give Mello a try and the milks look super cool but I just was focused on the donuts I should've grabbed one! Stopped in to try the artisanal doughnuts. Decided to get a medium sized box of mixed flavours which was plenty for our group of 6. The staff were friendly and helpful. There's not really much for decor or eating in. Just pick up and go. We really loved the raspberry filling of the Holt Renfrew donut. I was a big fan of the lemon curd. They also had a couple flavours available in Mini sizes, which we preferred. The cost was a little high at around $34 including tip. This is an indulgence for sure, but I think we'll be back. read more

Brioche doughnuts (brionuts) are having their moment right now. Places like Mello are popping up all over the place that only do this one kind of donut. So if you looking for cruellers or old fashioned or cake donuts, this ain't your place. I tried the Nutella, PB and J and Cereal. They were quite amazing! All of them were filled to nearly bursting with filling! My favorite of the bunch was probably between the cereal one which had a frosted corn flake outer covering and a milky vanilla cream, and the Nutella one which had a ridiculous amount of decadent filling. I'm literally writing this review while I'm at this cafe. I heard about this place just two days ago and since I'm in Chinatown, I had to check it out. I ordered the lemon curd brioche donut, cereal cookie and a cortado. Yummy!! Donut was pillowy soft and the filling wasn't too sweet. Cereal cookie tasted like what it sounded like. It's very addictive. Service was fabulous and they seem to speak Korean among each other. One lady was so nice to give me a complimentary ice cream (in a container) but darn I'm not going home until a few hours later. Why oh why? Lol. That was because I spent over $40 buying their donuts and sweets for my friends. **You don't need cash, they are cashless cafe. This cute little shop just opened in Chinatown (East pender) a couple stores from "that" Vegan icecream shop-a place I refuse to go back again (out of principle). It has opened over a month now and I've been here twice in the last week. Service is friendly and the products are good! I have now had the regular sized lemon filled and mini sized blueberry filled brioche doughnuts. I think the lemon doughnut is amazing for its generous filling. I'm not normally a yeast-type/brioche type doughnut but the lemon curd dipped in sugar was really yummy! I'm little mini sized one tasted a bit dry for me (but I think it's the brioche and there isn't as much filling which is why I found it a bit "dry"). I came back for their old fashion doughnut and that was my favourite (but I'm biased Cos I love those kind of cake-y doughnuts). I managed to snag the last 2! Street paid parking is somewhat available depending on the time of day. Interior is minimalistic and cute. I am sure I'll come back! I do like thar they are open later in comparison to the other popular Vancouver doughnut places! But be aware the selection is a bit limited in the evening (obviously lol). Well Hello Mello!!! Came in when they opened at 9 am Limited selections when I got there, but I tried Vanilla Custard donut and a latte. I had it to stay. No one else was there. Cute cafe, bright colours. I love the colour yellow! The coffee was good and donut was great. While enjoying my treats, another donut came out. Peanut butter & jelly donut. I ended up taking a couple home. Donuts were good, the dough is soft and fillings are not too overwhelming. $3.75 each, does not accept cash. Plenty of seating. Hours of operations are great. I got the tiramisu donut and I looooved how not too sweet it is and just strong in coffee and cocoa flavor. I honestly asked the shop assistant which flavor is the least sugary and she pointed me to tiramisu. It's just so full of light cocoa cream, the brioche is also light and smooth. read more

I didn't even know this place existed but randomly discovered it thanks to yelp! I was lucky to arrive in between long lines (they were nonstop busy but the line moved very quickly) but sadly 2 items I had been eyeing from afar in the case were bought right before I got to the counter. On a whim I got a matcha and also a pbj donut. The donuts themselves were money. The best brioche donut Ive had yet - great flavor, texture and just the right amount of sweetness. I liked the inside fillings as well but felt like there was a bit too much of it. Both exploded all over our hands so it was pretty messy. But I guess never too much of a good thing. Absolutely delicious Brioche Donuts but don't expect to see their entire selection until at least 9:45 or 10am. We showed up around 9:15am and they were just coming out with the brioche donuts. Mom and I were a little confused, especially since mom wanted to try their Strawberry Cream version. We asked the woman at the counter if she knew about how long until those would be available and she said not until 9:45 or 10am as it's the last donuts they make in the morning. So if you want to see all their offerings, wait until 10am to arrive and everything should be ready! I ended up getting a lemon curd filled donut while mom got the vanilla cream filled. It was fantastic. I loved the light and airy texture of the donut - hands down one of the best I've had. I sampled a little of the vanilla cream from mom's donut and I actually preferred that over my lemon curd but both were delicious! I'd love to come back again and try a few different flavors. Been wanting to try Mello since it opened because it kept on popping up in Yelp and other social media platforms plus the place and the donuts are very photogenic. One rainy weekday afternoon, hubby and I were both craving for doughnuts (been breaking my GF diet lately O_o) we went to Cartems first but they were sold out of donuts so we figured it was our chance to try Mello in Chinatown. Street parking us available and the place wasn't busy when we arrived. Interiors are really gorgeous and very photogenic. Washrooms were clean and tidy. They have a communal table, small tables by the window and bench seating available. We ordered a mini strawberry donut for me while the hubby got an old fashioned donut and a cup of hot chocolate. I found the donuts quite pricey-- the small donut was around $3 with tax while the normal size donut was around $3.75 before tax. The donut was just okay for me honestly, they look pretty though. Hot chocolate was presented in a messy cup (with chocolate marks on the side and cup rim) plus the hubby said it didn't taste anything special -- just like chocolate syrup mixed with milk. read more

Mello is a modern stylish brioche doughnut bakery that's somewhat of a secret in Chinatown. So many new places have taken over the old Chinese grocery stores, restaurants and herbal shops I'm not really sure what's there anymore! They have about 10 standard/dipped flavours with are about $3.50-$3.75 each, and then about 4-5 special flavours which are $4.75 each. A little on the pricey end of doughnuts, but I enjoyed the novelty of trying a unique twist on a doughnut. The brioche bread dough was fluffy and soft, and nice and fresh. I would recommend coming in the morning for a greater selection, and as these are bread doughnuts they would be "harder" later in the day and should be eaten right away. We ordered the lemon curd, tiramisu and cereal milk totally $14 before tip. The lemon curd was rolled in white sugar, and filled with lemon curd. It was my least favourite as I felt like I've had better elsewhere and the curd was not very lemony. The cereal milk donut was crusted in corn flakes and dusted in powdered sugar, and was filled with a cereal milk whipped cream filling. I really enjoyed the crunchy exterior with the soft cream filling, but wish the cream had a more intense cereal milk flavour. The tiramisu was probably my favourite as it had the strongest taste. The outside dusted in cocoa powder, and filled with tiramisu (espresso/chocolate) flavoured whipped cream filling. It was the most decadent, but most tasty. Decent brioche doughnuts. I love trying new foods and I think it's worth trying if you're in the area. However to satisfy my future doughnut cravings, I'll stick to my London fog stuffie from Cartems. read more

Mello is definitely one of those IG-worthy cafes with the monochromatic aesthetic inside. It looked super cute, so me and my boyfriend stopped by to see what they had! I wanted to try the Strawberries & Cream donut, but they were unfortunately sold out when we were there. I decided on the Tiramisu one instead. We also ordered some coffee too - a mocha and matcha latte. The donut was super delicious! It has a soft outer layer covered in sugar and filled with lots of coffee cream, really similar to a cream puff. You definitely need coffee to balance out the sweetness though. The matcha in my latte was a little overpowering though - you know how when there's so much matcha powder that it's bitter? I'm not a huge sweets girl but my god, this donut shop was REALLY good! They have tons of different flavours but specialize in Asian ones. I quite especially enjoyed their matcha and tiramisu. Careful though because it's in a sketchier part of town. When we went there was no line because it was a little late in the day that a lot of their flavours were already sold out. The donuts themselves are stuffed with the flavoured creams and I'm not a huge fan of a Timmie's boston cream donut but this doesn't compare! Went here with a friend when we visited and the city and were pleasantly surprised! I've seen lots of good things about this bakery but I have high expectations for brioche filled donuts since we have a great place in my city. We went mid day and there was no line and still a nice selection to choose from. I only got the tiramisu and the lemon as I was gonna fly later that day. I ate the lemon first and was so happy with the texture of the dough. It was light, fluffy, and wasn't too greasy. It didn't leave any weird flavors or coating on my tongue. The filling itself wasn't too sweet and it was addicting. Smooth and tart cream. The tiramisu I saved till later, like at least 8 hours later, and it was still good. Didn't have as much of a bite since it was in a container for a while, but the dough was still soft and the cream had such a nice espresso flavor to it. This one unfortunately was not pictured! - Original (strawberry): The cream is just the right amount of sweetness, and it is just airy enough that it doesn't taste too "heavy". I could eat at least two of these in one sitting. - Tiramisu: If you like tiramisu, you will fall in love with this flavor. It literally tastes like tiramisu in a fluffy cased doughnut! The rum taste is not too strong, so if you're buying it for kids, you don't have to worry about that. - Lemon Custard: The lemon custard is not too sour, and not too sweet. While in the neighbourhood, mello is a MUST to go grab your gourmet donuts. The quality of these treats are unmatched. They are perfectly light, fluffy, and well flavored. I myself am not a particular sweet tooth however the way they handle sugar and sweetness really hits the nail on the head. My personal favourites are the strawberries and cream and the cereal milk. I have not yet been able to try their everything bagel(?) flavour which is more savoury but you honestly can't go wrong with the other choices available. Depending on the donut, they range from 4-5.25 (all pricing mentions are always subject to change) so a half dozen can certainly add up quickly. I do believe these are worth the cost because they also feel like they are made with a lot of knowledge and love. Bags are $.75 to go but again it is just crafted so beautifully and adorable with their "love at first bite" branding. The regular ones are like PB&J, lemon curd, dark chocolate pudding, etc. The special are like strawberry & cream, tiramisu, cereal milk, etc so the regular and special are almost the same but the specials are $1 more. The donuts are really soft and fluffy. We got the strawberry & cream, tiramisu and Nutella. The strawberry & cream is an open style donut ( like a hotdog bun ) so it's not stuffed inside like a Boston cream. The cream is airy but not as sweet as I like but everyone has different level of 'sweet tooth' so it may be right for you. There were a few strawberry piece on it so I'm not sure if it is worth $4.75. The tiramisu was a lot better as it was flavorful, dusted with cocoa powder and filled with espresso cream. The place is just east of Main St on Keefer St. It is a small place for grab and go. Cereal milk ($4.75) Rich Frosted Flakes flavored cream with a crunchy coating of Frosted Flakes with the course sugar and brioche donut. Symphony of textures and flavors. Second favorite. PB and J ($3.75) The PB is a lot more prominent but the hint of jam at the top helps cut the richness. The cream is a mixture of the base cream and peanut butter making it velvety smooth, nutty and delicious. A modernized classic. Third favorite. Nutella ($3.75) The more simpler one, brioche with Nutella filling. Simply delicious. Fourth favorite. Overall, these are the best donuts I've ever had in my life. The donuts were immaculate.
