Great donut shop in downtown Vancouver. Spacious but little to no seating when I visited. The staff are very polite and patient while you try to decide which of the many flavours to get! I LOVE THESE DONUTS! Whether you call these brioche donuts, malasadas, bombolinis, or something else, they're amazing. They really remind me of Chinese sugar donuts too, except with filling. From the pictures I saw online it looked very sweet, and not like your typical Asian bakery because it looked like it had a lot of sugar sprinkles on the outside. However, it wasn't as sweet as I thought. In fact, it was the perfect sweetness level. I got the cereal, cream doughnut, and I loved it! It reminds me of my whip cream icing that I make at home. And the outside cornflakes crust gave it a crunchy texture, which I loved! Most of the time with frosted cornflakes it's super sweet, but this was the perfect sweetness level. My son got the tiramisu and it tasted just like coffee, but it was also very good. My daughter got the strawberry cream and she loved it! It has small bit of fresh strawberry. my daughter tried the Matcha original donut, and it was very heavy on the Matcha flavor so much that it had a bit of bitterness to it. So if you like Matcha, I would definitely recommend it. But for me, it was a bit too much. Was icing. The Matcha was a thick icing they had on top of the donut. I found it overpowering. I couldn't even taste the doughnut. My husband got the salted caramel which in most cases is very sweet, but it wasn't at all. Very light and flavor, but he loved it! It had just enough saltiness and sweetness and a lot of cream. It was a very simple shop and didn't have much decor. If it is on taste then I would say 4 stars. However, these donuts are not that special. I have had better donuts elsewhere. They are pricy for what they are and what their competitors are charging for donuts. So if you ask me if the donuts are worth the $5 for one. The answer is no. It was somewhat messy to eat because its an open halved donut. The strawberry cream as mentioned was very light. I liked the fact that it is not overly sweet. I do suggest checking this place out. Only big Con for me about this place is the neighborhood that it is in. It is located in Chinatown. The area is somewhat sketchy and especially at night time. Parking is not easy to find. My friend got the matcha brioche donut and I got a couple of bites. There was no line and the service was quick. Although the interior is really nice and clean, it does look very empty as there is a lot of open space. We were both quite excited for it since the place is so well known for its donuts but I found it very underwhelming. I'm a really big fan of matcha so I was surprised. As said by other reviewers, the matcha has a strong flavour that would otherwise be perfect for tea alone. Because it's a donut, I expected it to be sweeter but it's just too bitter as a dessert. It is a good ratio of cream to bun though. The bun was yummy. I found the temperature of the donut to be a bit offputting but I might be a little nit-picky. Amazing brioche doughnuts. They're large, fluffy, and the cream inside has a fantastic flavor profile. The cereal milk doughnut was recommended and so I went with that along with a sesame milk. I bought the brioche donuts with four different flavours: dark chocolate, matcha, tiramisu and everything bagel. I got here around lunch hour. It was not too busy. I saw the bakery made so many fresh donuts. All of them were very attractive and looked delicious. I would love to go back and try other flavours. The colour of the exterior of the bakery is very light, so I was trying to look for the name abs make sure I went to the right shop haha the interior is a bit smaller than I expected. During the pandemic, they only do takeout. All the chairs and tables are not available for seating yet. The customer service was great. I asked a staff about the donuts and she answered them politely. The donuts were packed in a brown paper box. I visited Mello while I was on a trip in Vancouver, and I'd like to say that it was one of my favorite snack spots that I visited while I was there. Entering, there was no seating, but everything inside was modern and new. The staff was friendly and helped us pick out some of the popular flavors at Mello. We decided on the Everything Sesame Donut, Lemon Curd, and Strawberries and Cream. Everything Sesame Donut: The flavor may seem odd at first, but this was the best out of the 3 that we got. The cream cheese wasn't too sweet, and wasn't too salty--perfect balance. The donut itself was super soft and fluffy and not too doughy at all. I do wish the dough to filling ratio was a bit more even though. The sesame on the donut was a perfect balance with the chives, making this a fantastic savory go-to donut. Strawberries and Cream: Second favorite out of the 3. The cream wasn't too over powering from the strawberries, which again created the perfect balance of the flavors. The strawberries weren't too sour or sweet, which probably varies by season as well. Lemon Curd: If you really like sour desserts/candy, then this is perfect for you. I think I was looking for more of a tart flavor rather than sour (more because it's in a donut form). This past weekend my friends and I visited Chinatown for Light Up Chinatown and was excited to finally visit Mello for their donuts. The donuts are good but their customer service needs some working on. Never felt welcomed and when I asked for the milk cereal flavour, I was snapped back with "sold out" and not "sorry we are sold out but would you like another choice." Maybe have a sign for the sold out flavours if your staff are too tired to repeat. When trying to select another flavour, I felt like we were wasting the staff's time with a hurry-up attitude. The brioche donuts are light and fluffy with a good outer sugar coating and the over stuffed fillings are not too sweet. I had the lemon curd and it was not too tart and had a thin pudding like consistency. After the first bite, make sure to lick the filling quickly or it will drip off-waste not! My friends had the chocolate pudding and tiramisu brioche donuts and both enjoyed. The brioche donuts are $3.75, special donuts are $4.75 and the old fashioned are $3.50.
