We visited on a Friday shopping day for lunch and were able to find a street parking spot right in front of the entrance. We were greeted at the door and seated right away. We ordered the pretzel bites appetizer , and it was so good that we ate them all before taking a photo. We also ordered drinks from the seasonal drink menu. The "Frosted Dirty Cola" was made really well. The style of this restaurant was really unique, employees were nice and attentive, and the food was really good. I brought my son here for his birthday a few weeks ago and it might have been one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. We didn't know it was close to closing time as we were just walking around downtown Fredericksburg and the restaurant seemed relatively crowded and lively so we decided to go in. We shared with the hostess that we wanted to celebrate my son's birthday and she sat us in a corner away from just about everyone else. We waited close to 30 minutes and had our table moved before we ever got a server. By that time, the restaurant had cleared out and our food was being rushed to us as the servers worked to close up. Someone came by and apologized saying the hostess was new. Nothing was offered to make it right. I honestly don't think I'll ever go to another Mellow Mushroom again. Dined here for dinner recently and while the food was great we did have some service issues. This was our first visit to this location but we have dined at several other Mellow Mushroom locations in other states and we are big fans. We appreciate that most MM locations have a good beer selection and the option to order pizza with vegan cheese and this location fulfilled these expectations. Our server was not the most attentive and it took him two tries to communicate that the hummus appetizer was unavailable. My beer was brought to the table but my wife's wasn't until we got our server's attention and asked about it; at that point he went to the bar and bought it over. The restaurant was busy but not packed and there was maybe two people at the bar. The pizza (large veg out with vegan cheese) was delicious and we also ordered 10 wings, dry with mild buffalo on the side which were very good. Overall we enjoyed the food. One other negative and not specific to this location but they now charge extra for a side of tomato sauce which used to be provided at no extra charge. After years of choosing MM as our local pizza spot, I'm done. Ordered takeout and, for the second time, the pizza was cold, the "hot buffalo" wings had no sauce or flavor and were also tepid, they no longer provide carrots and celery AND the cost is still high. It's just easier, cheaper, tastier, and less disappointing to make pizza at home. Sorry, will not be back. read more

It's been several years since we've been here and we came yesterday, on a weekday for lunch. Getting there right as they opened, they were dead, but soon after, several more parties showed up. Service was excellent, very friendly and helpful. The food was very fresh and tasty, as I remember it. I got there salad and 1/2 sandwich deal and their lil bowl of salad was packed full of fresh, tasty veggies! The Italian hoagie was excellent too! Definitely will go back! read more

Great pizza!! Hubby especially loved it while I prefer a thinner wood fired crust. Wings are good, and pizza is definitely all about the toppings since the crust is more substantial. The server said it's a "spring water" crust, but it's darker in color and reminds me of whole wheat. Beer selections are good, loved the 6 Bears and a goat Rappahannock Red, but they were out of it on our second visit. Fun ambience, prompt service on a Thursday, but 1 hour plus wait for pizza on weekend before Easter week. I think they were caught off-guard by the holiday. We sat "outside" which was a screen in patio which was really nice. our waiter forgot to bring us cutlery and we had been waiting and really hungry so we just went up to the pos system and got them ourselves. Caesar salad was the first thing to come out and it was delicious. The dressing had a lot of nice flavor and we liked how fresh and crispy the homemade crouton and lettuce were. The portion for the chicken was shockingly small but we learned it was only a $2 addition, and it was juicy not dry at all. We wanted a side of fries but they do not have those here. Instead, tater tots! We love tater tots but i was slightly disappointed with portion and overall quality. Tasted very frozen and came out cold. Not crispy at all. As for the pizza, they offer gluten free but only in a size small. So we opted for a Large that was not gf. The funky q was interesting... We also meant to order on a thin crust which i think would have made all the difference. Personally was not impressed with the breading on this pie, the crust was enjoyable with sprinkles of parmesan on top. Just wish there was a better "crunch". The portion for the pie was large and worth the price. Overall quality of food here is okay. Our experience with our waiter was also just okay. My first time here and it was a good experience! Sat at the bar and had very attentive service from the two bartenders. Went with friend and we enjoyed drinks off the menu and to start Cloud 9 wings. The flavor of the wings was great! Menu says they are double baked so was expecting a bit crunchier wings, but they were not. The flavor still made them really good! We then got a Merry Prankster to share... wonderful amount of toppings and perfect flavor combo! Inside was fun, bright and had outdoor seating hooked to the backside of the bar. We haven't gotten take out for at least 2 years from here because of the service. A take out order that was supposed to be 35 min took almost 90 min. And they WERE NOT busy. Excuses were made. When asked to speak to a manager they were seen standing out of sight behind a wall. We got charged for sauce that was not in the order and the pizza was cold. Flavor, yes. Customer service NO! Clearly the management doesn't seem to be bothered by this because it hasn't changed. There are many more pizza places with MUCH better service we are happy to spend our money at, one across the street! read more

I was finally able to try out this place which is located on William St in downtown Fred'burg. There are street parking as well as a paid parking space. As you walk in, the main dining area is in front of you, two sided bar on your left, a sunroom, a take out window and open kitchen concept. The interior decor is very vibrant, colorful and the restaurant is clean. I ordered 3 items: 1) Loaded queso dip 2) House salad 3) Taco nirvana pizza. The loaded queso dip served with thin seasoned long toasted crostini was very delicious. That queso dip was creamy smooth with chicken and enchilada flavors. With each bite the flavors intensified as your palate is craving for more. The small house salad with refreshing which arrive to the table with romaine lettuce, diced cucumbers, one tomato slice, shaved parmesan, dressing of choice and surprisingly a half cup of black olives. The black olives overpower the salad so it was scrape to the side. The salad itself was tasty. The taco nirvana pizza was filled with so much umami, bold flavors and that sauce wow. The outer crust was light, slightly thick like a personal pan thickness and a little sweet. The filling was the highlight with green peppers, onions, green onions, diced tomatoes, choice of protein- chicken or beef; creamy sauce and cheese. The only thing that was missing was a little heat but other than that. It is a must get item along with that queso dip. My server Tiffany also the bartender was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely make another visit to try other items on the menu. read more

Last visit i got the wrong order twice, our cups were empty the whole time and didn't get asked for a refill until we were leaving, service was really slow, and all of our food was cold, room temp at best. I ordered a build your pizza to go with vegan cheese, tomatoes, artichokes and Kalamata olives. The restaurant was very clean in the dining area and even the kitchen minus the expected traces of flour on the floor. The team member that gave me my food was very polite and was accommodating to all of the condiments I asked for. The artichokes seemed to be placed on the pizza after it baked because it wasn't roasted and had a lot of juice in it. FYI- Pizza ranges upwards of $30 for a large pizza and all of the toppings are an up-charge unless you get one of the pizza options they have like a meat lover's etc.. Restaurant was nice, but aftermath was awful from the garage to becoming sick. The server assured me the food was safe for a celiac and told me to put my validated parking sticker over the bar code on the garage ticket. Don't do that! You need that barcode and the validation sticker to get out. Peeling the sticker the server gave me off the garage ticket ruined the barcode and cost us $50 to get out of the garage. And then I became horribly ill on the drive home. I have celiac disease, have eaten safely at other Mellow Mushroom locations, and gave my normal explanation about celiac disease. Everything appeared fine, but I clearly received food with enough cross contamination to knock me out for the rest of yesterday and still today. This place was already high up on my list for the ambience and the fact that they offer vegan cheese at all, but now it's easily number one . On a girls day lunch with my daughters, we enjoyed pizza in house and got both of the new menu item vegan hoagies to go. There was a mixup with our pizzas, which was quickly resolved by our waitress, Chris, and the manager on staff . Not sure where to start. I've always loved this one. Never had an issue with service or the food. However this time was so off putting I doubt I'll go back. The server was not good at all. It wasn't even crowded so not sure what the excuse would be. She became suddenly nice when it was check time I assume to play for a good tip. The food took forever to come to the table. Over 30mins. When I arrived it was half cooked pizza. There were servers with lots and lots of long unsecured hair. As if that wasnt off putting enough we could see the kitchen area. Super cool manager!!! And awesome food!!!!! Husband loved his chicken pizza - chicken pieces were gigantic, no kidding. I had the shiitake mushroom pizza - off the charts, I absolutely LOVED it with all of me. It has become my favorite and I will be getting the same pizza every time I come to this place. It has delicious mushies mixed with truffle oil. * hearts* This traditional mellow mushroom pizza is always sO gOoD. Du-dun. Du-dun. Dududududududududududududududdududududududu DU-DUN! WATCH OUT FOR that Great White.......pizza?? The Great White pizza was also quite delicious. I always have a hard time finding a white sauce pizza, and it's honestly a favorite. Havana oh no nah. Let your inner hipster out and try something new like Wild in Havana. This Cuban twist pizza had a mustard drizzle which was oddly satisfying. Overall, service was nice and friendly. The food was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. My only complaint is that then J shaped table set up in the middle of the place was a bit awkward and the walkways were pretty tight. The style inside is abstract and wacky which I love. Different style than the RVA location, but not a bad thing at all. I had a nice dinner here just a couple of weeks ago. I ordered a small pizza with pineapple on top, and my friend got the Holy Shitake Mushroom pizza! The server offered us an appetizer, and we obliged, starting with the bruschetta. It ended up being bread overload, but it was all good, so I was content, although slightly uncomfortable since it is not good form to unbutton your pants in a public establishment! The server was nice, although not super present, but I believe she was also the bartender. We had a coupon we were planning to use, but our check was too small to use it, so we gave it to the family of 5 sitting at the table next to us. They were quite grateful, and it worked out for them! It's definitely a carb heavy meal, so I probably won't be frequenting the establishment, but that's mainly due to what my metabolism will tolerate bahahaha read more

First time to this establishment, patronized w my two little boys. I like the lively and bright atmosphere. Our server was cordial, helpful, and fairly knowledgeable about the beer menu. I decided to step out of norm and ordered the Pacific Rim pizza that came w bacon, ham, jalapeños, and caramelized onions. It was pretty good, not life changing but good. Better than a Papa John's or similar pizza but not a Brothers pizza (if you are local). It's good but not extraordinary. The pizza is larger than expected and I had a medium. The toppings were flavorful and commentary w nothing was over powering anything else. The server offered dipping sauces for the crust to which I declined but it's a good option.
