"Buffalo Chicken" was disgusting and I told them no sauces
    Terri M.

I met a group of friends here, it was 11 of us total. Not everyone ordered food, only about half of us did. But I guess since there was 11 people in the party, that justifies the place to charge a 18% tip even though it isn't a "high end" place like it states when I looked up TN regulations for mandatory tipping. The young blonde waitress gave the worst service I have had in my life. We got there at 2pm, she came by and disappeared for about a half hour. I don't know if she was new, but she was not attentive, nothing about her service was good. If they didn't force the tip on us on our bill she probably wouldn't have received a tip at all. We had to ask for silverware and napkins more than once. We asked a guy who brought some of our food and he brought them out to us. I ordered bruschetta and the same exact pizza as the person next to me at the same exact time. I said no sauces on top when she asked if I wanted blue cheese or ranch. other person got her pizza 40 minutes after ordering. I got my pizza 30 minutes AFTER she got hers. What the hell, we both ordered the buffalo chicken pizza. Why the hell did mine take 1hour 10 minutes and hers took 40 minutes? That is beyond outrageous. The restaurant wasn't busy and pizzas take about 15 minutes. The bruschetta... terrible. Bruschetta is supposed to have garlic, olive oil, balsamic vinegar with tomatoes. The tomatoes weren't seasoned, no garlic or olive oil, very blah. I had to get up and find someone to ask them for them to get our checks and boxes because the waitress disappeared over 30 minutes ago and has yet to be back. She should be fired or properly trained. To be a good waitress you need to come back, check on the table, see if we needed anything, see how the meal was etc. We also had to ask for boxes 3 times.

Hate to advocate for chain restaurants, but I have to admit that Mellow Mushroom has good pizza. Honestly, it's some of the best pizza in JC. Heard a lot of people talk about terrible service here, but I've never run into any glaring issues. There is plenty of seating inside, outside, and at the bar. The only negative is how dark it is outside the front doors. Honestly it just seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen when someone falls. Overall I have to recommend Mellow Mushroom if you're jonesing for a really good pie.

Veggie Calzone but with vegan cheese
    Delanie M.

The good thing about mellow mushroom is that they have vegan cheese. Even though the vegan menu only has three items on it with two of those items being salads... You can substitute the vegan cheese elsewhere on the menu. I ordered a veggie calzone, sub, vegan cheese, no, Parmesan, no butter, no ricotta. I also got the vegan Greek salad which I thought it was odd that they didn't offer a vegan Greek dressing with it. I went with the balsamic. It was still a good salad, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a Greek salad at that point. The calzone was giant. It looked like a pizza folded in half. there was a little too much cheese in it, and I wish that it would've had more vegetables. The calzone only had mushrooms, tomatoes, and spinach. I could have added more veggies but the up charges were looking a little ridiculous per topping. i did have to add a fair amount of salt to it as well. overall not bad but not amazing. thank you for having vegan cheese though!

This place is dog friendly. Sign language inclusion with great food. I'm behind on my reviews, but catching up, since the end of the year is just around the corner. It was a trip with the in laws, and finding substance that would agree with everyone can be nerve wrecking. Thankfully, with reviews and searching the word dog came in handy :) They had two fur babies and those cuties can't be left behind. We sat outside with two tables pushed together. A party of 6, and two furbies. Our waiter was polite, fast, and efficient. I had a meaty pie, hubs a sausage calzone, brother in law a cobbs salad, his gf a buffalo pie, and mother and father in law had wings. The blue cheese on the side is out of this world. Real and chunky, thick blue cheese, not the soupy kind lol. My pie was just great. It had the right amount of dough to cheese ratio. There was tomatoes on top, so it was somewhat healthy in eating vegetables lol. The crust was a buttery crisp. The meat was thick, and there was a slight tang in the sauce. The calzone had a glistening Parmesan garlic flavor brushed on top. It had a nice slight crunch on the exterior. There was definitely a cheese pull in addition to the abundance of sausage. We did take the leftovers back to the hotel. Oh, and I noticed one of the waitress communicating, using sign language with a person that was hard of hearing. That is awesome! I have a sibling that is deaf, so it warmed my heart knowing that this place integrates with people with hearing disabilities. Overall, it was a great meal with awesome company. We will be back when traveling through the area:)

Pleasantly surprised by this pizza! I'm a big local gal but we were having an event here so I decided to try out the menu here. And I'm glad I did so! The Holy Shiitake was the bomb & the white pie was good too. Personally the holy shiitake was way more unique and flavorful while the white pie felt too cheesy and a bit greasy. The crust was very fluffy and perfect. Would go back sometime!

My sister and I enjoying the kids menu games. We ordered a medium Supreme pizza and a small Great white. So yummy!

Located along a busy main business road, entrances to the parking lot are easy to find. This is a…read moresmall shopping center with plenty of parking although it is a bit tight to maneuver. There is one other restaurant as well as several businesses using this parking area so there is always traffic. Handicapped parking is limited with a couple spaces near their entrance and a couple more spaces further away from the door. You'll need to look for a ramp if needed as there is not one by their entrance, but that is not their fault. Walking in for lunch, there was a sign to seat yourself. The restaurant was slightly less than half full. Seating is a mix of tables and booths. There is a low wall on the left with tables on the other side which may be a bit more private or less busy. Most of the booth seats we passed need recovering and the general decor is older and could use a freshening. There is also a small bar in rear with about six stools. There is some background music noticeable but at a low volume which did not interfere with conversation. The temperature inside was rather cool and we left our coats on during our meal. Our waitress came by within a few seconds of us sitting down. She took our drink order and brought the drinks back within a minute. We asked for a few minutes to review the menu. After about ten minutes she returned, apologizing for getting distracted with bussing tables and taking other orders. It appears the restaurant was understaffed and our waitress was performing many tasks. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees. One appetizer dip came out piping hot in about ten minutes. The Buffalo Chicken dip was very good. There is distinct Buffalo flavor without significant spiciness. The majority of the included chicken was shredded as expected but there was one very large chicken piece in the middle. This needed a fork and knife to break apart to eat. The accompanying pita-type chips were warm, crispy on the outside and little puffy inside. The remaining appetizer was delivered about five minutes later, with the two entrees about five minutes after that. The Fall special Four Cheese Bruschetta dip was good. Three of the cheeses were well mixed and the mozzarella was layered on top in the middle of the bowl. Once this cooled a bit it was difficult to use the pita chips to dip any of the mozzarella so a fork was used. The fresh basil and roasted cherry tomatoes were nice garnishes. The Johnny's Special sub was fine but not really special. There was enough meat, lettuce, and tomato to feel it was a decent value but the flavor was overall bland. The onion, mayo, and Italian dressing were minimal to non-existent, at least as far as flavor was concerned. The bread was nicely toasted with a crispness without bordering on hard. The bottom of the sandwich did get soggy by the time the first half of the sandwich was eaten but it did not fall apart. The accompanying French fries were very good, crispy outside and tender inside. The Syracuse Stuffer Calzone was another decent value with adequate ingredients to make a complete meal. The steak was decently flavorful but there was also gristle (possibly grill scrapings) included which took away from the experience. The accompanying marinara dipping sauce was underwhelming. While the recipe ideas and flavors are interesting, the execution was lacking. The kitchen had an issue with the timing of sending out the different parts of the order although the entrees did arrive at the same time. Our server was obviously good at her job but was saddled with additional tasks beyond any reasonable expectation of being able to handle while still serving the customers. The overall potential of the menu does merit another visit.

But the second we parked, we could smell that wood-fired oven doing its thing. That smoky, toasty aroma? Instant confirmation we were exactly where we needed to be. Is this place fancy? Ahhhh... NO. And that's part of the charm. We went early for dinner (around 4:30ish). A few people were coming and going. You fill out your order on paper sheets and they make 12" pies, perfect for individual tastes. We ordered a plain cheese as our barometer (because you always judge a pizza place by the basics). I built mine with pepperoni, red onion, fresh mushrooms, and roasted whole garlic cloves. While I was trying to be subtle snapping photos, Theodore opened the door to the wood-fired oven and invited us to take a look. OMG. I LOVE a wood fire oven, and this one was glowing red hot. He explained the pies cook in about six minutes. They're thin crust but sturdy enough to hold their toppings once they cool and set a bit. Just look at the pics. Again... not fancy. Paper plates. Plastic utensils. But honestly? You could serve this on a paper towel and it would still be phenomenal. MIND. BLOWN. The crust is perfectly balanced and crunchy. The red sauce? Perfection. They smoke the meats in house, and that pepperoni was unlike anything I've ever had. And the roasted garlic? Absolute game changer. I imagine they already have a huge following, but if you haven't tried this place yet... put it on your list. Immediately.

Our waitress was nice but wasn't very knowledgeable about the food; I asked her if the shrimp poboy came on hard or soft bread. She said soft so I ordered that. It was toasted to the point of being rock hard; actually cut my lip on it. Otherwise the poboy was pretty good, just hard to eat. The wife enjoyed her burger, but it wasn't anything special. And neither of us cared much for their side of chips; it's clearly their attempt to be different by not serving the usual French fries. But in our opinions, it's a fail. They were neither a tasty potato chip nor a fry, but something in between, that even ketchup couldn't make tasty. Interesting place to visit once, but I doubt we'll be back.
