My family keeps giving this place another chance and continues to be disappointed. The guys making the pizzas must just refuse to read the orders because we haven't gotten a single pizza that they haven't screwed up. It is not an issue of the person taking the orders because they read the order back to us and the receipts on the pizza boxes have the orders correct. Please impress upon your pizza makers that knowing how to read and paying attention to the details of the orders are integral parts of the job. "Light cheese", "extra sauce", "no butter/no parm" should not be options on your custom pizza menu if those are too difficult of instructions for the staff to follow. I sincerely hope you improve because this utter lack of attention to detail is unacceptable. read more

Wonderful pizza to be had at Mellow Mushroom, but on this occasion, we had salads. I had the chef salad with their balsamic vinaigrette and it was delicious. Almost half an avocado! And grilled chicken, more than I could eat. I always have their house red sangria, which is quite good. We visited on Super Bowl Sunday, and it looked like they had a big take out business. Our server was great, food was served promptly. This location is in the historic old downtown and had a nice outdoor seating area. The restrooms could have used some sweeping up, but was comfortable. Where to start??? My first memory of Mellow Mushroom was when my wife brought home her leftover pizza from this spot I didn't know existed, this was in Fort Lauderdale. It was a piece of their Holy Shiitake Pie! You know that scene in Ratatouille when Remy took a bite and saw colors and... Well you get the picture. Mellow Mushroom of Ocala was a treat to find! This place is is a funky little spot with a chill vibe and good food! We ordered our usual Holy Shiitake Pie and the Chop It Salad ! The pizza was exactly how I remembered! The ingredients are masterfully paired! The salad looked as if it were an afterthought. Our waitress Bri, was fast and friendly! We will definitely be back soon! The location can get very noisy, due to the lack of soft surfaces to absorb diners conversations; but I think that is the vibe they're going for. Not a big deal, but just a heads up. Ordered the pretzel bites for a shareable appetizer; do yourself a favor, order something else - they were pretty tasteless, including the beer/cheese dip. Pizzas, on the other hand, were stellar! We each had a small different type and shared. Holy shiitake was delicious, my co-diners ordered Mighty Meaty, Veg Out and house special. All were delicious with a nice chew to the crust. We came in and were seated and no one ever showed up to take a drink order drop off plates or menus after I got up and politely asked the host staff they them person no one showed up!? after we decided to get up to leave the manager came out to ask why we were leaving! Why do you think we're leaving? We're hungry. No one has shown up. This is 3 o'clock on a Sunday afternoon. There were only three other people in the entire restaurant. I'm done with this location. Atmosphere inside was popping and vibrant with conversation. So for the pie. Dough is chewy but good. Sauce is lacking in flavor but you can't please everyone. In the words of Mick Dundee, "Needs more garlic." Cheese was evenly spread and didn't taste like the box. The toppings were good. Loved the bacon and the veggies. Had we not waited over an hour I would have walked out. After placing our drink order, it took about 25 minutes for those to hit the table. The Caesar salad was a wet mess. The salad came out of pizzas hit the table. One of the two pizzas was wrong. Forgot the calzone which we waited another 40 minutes for. The restaurant had empty tables with dishes left on them for quite a while with people waiting to be sat. I was a server for years and years so it's not me being a Karen on this review. Walk up the street to have the seating hostess tell us the app is never accurate. 35 minutes later, we sat down at 658 ( my daughter started a timeline ). 714....no greeting from anyone. Finally got a server and ordered drinks at 720. This is 22 minutes after we sat down. 732...no drinks. 741, after my daughter texted my OTHER daughter about the fiasco, SHE is calling the hostess stand FROM AN AIRPLANE SEAT on the tarmac in Minneapolis to get DRINKS TO OUR TABLE !! 748...drinks arrive 28 minutes after ordering. 752...pretzel app arrives. No salad. 802...salad arrives with two pizzas...one pizza is wrong. Salad was too wet and had just two croutons on the caesar. 828...CALZONE arrives AFTER the pizzas. Undercooked. The mushrooms were not even cooked through. NO refills of any drink. NO check back to the table. WE had to wave the server down to get the check and take out boxes. You failed on EVERY LEVEL. Bad service. Bad food. And after posting online at other sites, lots of feedback that says the same...... I was looking forward to this meal for months and it was a complete failure. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. And I don't want to hear about how they were understaffed. The weekend before Christmas, management over staffs for this very reason. Restaurant was noisy. Felt like I was in a nightclub. It wasn't packed but told it was an hour wait. It was actually 38 minutes til we were seated. While we were waiting to be seated, one of the hostesses (a very thin woman in her 60,s) sneezed into her hand, then proceeded to wipe her hand and her nose using a paper towel. We watched as she picked up some menus and wrapped flatware and seated another couple. After we were seated, we had to wait 12 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. We waited another 42 minutes to get our food. The pizza was fresh but the crust was a little bland. I would have asked for something to dip it in but I didn't see the waiter during most of the meal. I'm familiar with Mellow Mushroom in other cities and was eager to see if this one would be as good as the others. Each restaurant is uniquely decorated and have their individual atmosphere. I like that this one has outdoor seating and a walk up bar. The inside has a lot of hard surfaces and it can be very loud at times when crowded (it's a sports bar vibe). Lots of flat screen TV's if you want to watch something. The quality of their food is excellent. We've already been a few times since they opened and every menu item we tried was delicious. I'm partial to the pizzas and salads. Pizzas are available in either thin or medium crust and are toppings are plentiful. A small salad is large enough for two. Sandwiches and appetizers were tasty and plentiful. They have a great selection of beer, wine and spirits. The servers were knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. The dining area, open kitchen and the restrooms were clean, no unpleasantries. The location is in the midst of downtown Ocala near the town square with plenty of public parking available. Yep! I highly recommend getting half and half of a specialty pizza because you can try different types this way. I love great white, veg out, and kosmic karma. The restaurant is decorated nicely but it still appears that the wait times are long and staff is limited. Although we didn't experience anything bad this time, the lady that arrived right before us to pick up her order was told they'd lost it and she'd have to wait 45 MORE minutes to get her pizza so she just left. It's worth noting that they may need to work some kinks out before you visit but don't give up on them because MM is always great pizza! read more

We went there on there first Friday ever for the restaurant and it was very crowded but I feel for how many people that was waiting we got in about 40 minutes. Since it's there first week open, I figured it might not be at there best but they were on point. I have been to them in Brandon Fl so was familiar with what to suspect. They did a good job, food was great but it took awhile cause of the crowds. The service was good and they had corporate employees there to help out. We had the pretzel bits with cheese plus the meaty pizza and steak calzone, all of it was great. It's nice to have another option for a sit down pizza and bar in Ocala.
