The wife and I were shopping in the area and were excited to try out The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill today, a Thursday around 11am. When we walked in the door there were no customers but a couple of employees at the counter putting together orders. We walked up to the counter to browse the menu. We could tell there must have been some large orders come in as the employees seemed very busy working with their backs to us. Apparently so busy that they didn't think to say, "Hi", or "Welcome in!"- literally said nothing to us. I asked my wife loud enough for the workers to hear, "Are we ready to order? and she replied "Yes" for them loud enough to hear. Still, that wasn't enough to get the workers to stop what they were doing to help us with our orders, so we walked over to the self-serve kiosk to get our orders in. We considered dining in but weren't sure how long it would take, so we ordered as Take out to be on the safe side. I clicked the button for a printed receipt but couldn't figure out where it printed after I did that. We decided to go sit down. At this point we had been there about 10 minutes with zero acknowledgement from the employees working. I've worked in the service industry before (and continue to do so in a corporate environment), so I understand what a rush is like but I also understand that you're to make customers/clients feel welcome and heard- neither of which we felt at The (Not) Great Greek Mediterranean Grill. As we waited, other customers were coming in. Seemed like some regulars and others didn't seem to have as much trouble getting the employees to communicate with them. Another 10 mins or so go by and I started to notice about 4 different people receiving their orders who had come in after us, so I went to the counter to ask the status on ours. The female employee seemed irritated that my question pulled her away from what she was doing but she looked up our orders anyway. Said ours would be up in a few mins, so I said thanks and I let her know that I clicked "Print receipt" on the kiosk but wasn't sure where I was supposed to get it. She pointed to where it was supposed to come out but it wasn't there and shrugged. I said ok, and sat back down with my wife to wait for our food. At this point, I was irritated with the service and didn't want to dine in anymore. We got our food and left. I received a text to share my experience, and I shared what I'm writing here with the restaurant mgr or owner. I received a text back that they were sorry that my wife and I didn't feel welcomed or acknowledged during our visit. The mgr or owner mentioned it was disappointing that the kiosk and service didn't meet our expectations. They did say they appreciated the feedback, so they could improve and would love the chance to provide better care that we deserve in the future. Maybe I'm being too critical/out of line but if that was my business, I would offer a free lunch or something of value to try and make it right. I let them know that too. We go to restaurants for good food, good service, and good people. When someone has a bad experience, I'd be doing whatever I could to earn that business back. This is not a place we are planning on going back to. read more

After a visit to a local art framing shop (we typically go to Hobby Lobby to get art work framed but they can't stretch oil on canvas wider than 72"), my wife and I decided to try out The Great Greek. We've seen their billboard on Hwy 200 (I guess those billboards work!) and were intrigued. When we checked it out on Yelp, we were surprised they have multiple locations, like a franchise. We were also a bit surprised to find out it's not a typical sit down restaurant where a server takes your order. We walked up to the counter and placed our order. We were then given a number to place on our table and waited for our meals to be served. They have a soda dispensing machine to help yourself with. What did I give a tip for, again? In any case, I ordered their lamb souvlaki plate which came with a Greek salad, rice pilaf and some pita bread. My wife ordered their gyro sandwich served with fries. The salad was good and the lamb souvlaki was equally good. The grilled lamb was flavorful and tender. My wife liked her gyro, commenting how there's a lot of meat in it. Our dining experience was satisfactory...nothing great but nothing bad either. Once your meal has been delivered, you're on your own to get drinks or whatever else you need. About the only negative thing we noticed was how slow the food came out and how slow they cleaned up tables after diners left. Lunch for two with tip came out to just over $42. read more

I stopped in after shopping in the area. It was quite busy for a random weekday afternoon. The cashier informed me there was a 15 min wait for lamb but I was ok with waiting. I appreciated him giving me a heads up about the wait time. My meal was served with 2 lamb skewers, rice, salad and pita bread. The lamb was seasoned perfectly and very tender(I ordered medium well). The pita was cold, I wish they had thrown it on the grill for a few minutes. I've struggled to find good Mediterranean food outside of my hometown but this was great. read more

So I was very excited with this restaurant opening. I had high expectations but my balloon quickly burst. The restaurant is new and clean for the most part. A few things I noticed the staff is not friendly or very helpful. No hello - no smile - no welcome- it's sad how much common courtesy has been reduced to the bare minimum. Only the person who cleaned our table and delivered our food seemed to be happy and were kind. For a new establishment 1 of the 2 bathrooms was already out of order and the cleaning closet was wide open in the hall way with doors pushed aside. Not very appealing. Now on to the food. Although it was served hot and tasted fresh for the most part the lamb was a bit tough - the beef was a bit more tender. The feta fries were not crispy more like soggy. It seems like they are pre- made and set under warming lamp possibly to speed up the process which definitely hinders the taste. The rice pudding was delicious. We spent close to $60 for 2 adults and 1 drink. Be aware you can make it a combo for a bit less - we didn't get the offer and were charged for each separately. Make sure to read and take your time. All that being said I will try them again in the future - maybe after the mad rush and hype die down. Next time I will try the Gyro meat. read more

I love this place. The food is always super fresh and delicious. The salads are really green and everything in the salad is crisp and tasty. They make superb creamy hummus! The falafel is super tasty! This is my #1 go to for Uber Eats when I am in Ocala. In addition- they know how to pack a Togo order so nothing leaks or tips over. They double bag everything in paper bags with handles. It's the little touches that tell you that this place cares about satisfied customers. I ate there yesterday for lunch. You order at the counter and get a number for your table. I ask for a water cup. I was handed the smallest clear cup I have ever gotten in a restaurant. The food was brought to the table. I ordered just a gyro/lamb-beef. My friend got the same except she got a Greek salad and a drink (combo). They didn't give her salad dressing. She had to go to the counter to get it. The gyro was overstuffed with meat over the tomatoes, onions and lettuce with a little sprinkle of feta cheese and sauce. I couldn't get my mouth around it. I used a lot napkins because it was a mess. I finally gave up and cut it up. I left quite a bit on the plate. I don't like wasting food but I was disappointed in it. It didn't have enough of the dressing/sauce. For the price they could get back on the meat so you could eat it normally and add pita chips with a hummus. I guess they want you to hurry up, eat and get out because they have the most uncomfortable red metal chairs I have sat in at a restaurant. I am average size woman so if you are larger, I know you wouldn't be comfortable. I friend said the same thing about the chairs. One time and done. Nothing else on their menu interests me to try. My husband and I were eagerly waiting for this place to open. We got the best food. He had a Greek salad with chicken and I had the Greek salad with lamb. The pita bread that came with it was good with the tzatziki sauce. Soooo good, we finished off with the baklava ice cream with honey. I ordered the Mezze Plate, and it was absolutely delicious! The spanakopita was fresh and flaky, the grape leaves (dolmas) were seasoned perfectly, and the falafel was crispy and flavorful. It came with an enormous amount of creamy hummus, plenty of tangy tzatziki sauce, warm pita bread, and a huge, fresh side salad. The portions are incredibly generous - I couldn't finish it all! My husband got the classic Gyro with tender gyro meat, and his portion was massive too - loaded with fresh toppings and sauce. Everything tasted authentic and fresh, and the value for the portion sizes is outstanding. The staff was friendly, and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. Ate here for the first time via takeout and was not disappointed. The portion size for both the gyro and baklava was very generous and in accordance to the price. Gyro tasted like any other basic gyro with precooked/pre-sliced gyro meat, which was expected, however the pita and toppings were very fresh. They also provided an additional side of the tzatziki sauce which was appreciated. The baklava had fresh phyllo sheets with a good snap and plenty of filling as well. I did wish that there was extra syrup to soften the phyllo though as the middle layer of phyllo was too hard to bite through which was disappointing. Overall, the taste and amount of food provided made the price worth it, however I won't be coming back considering that the taste is comparable to ANF gyros who sells their gyros for $8 read more

Stopped by for lunch on our drive home from Orlando to Atlanta. What a gem! The Great Greek is located on the side of a small shopping mall strip in front of a larger shopping mall, so potentially not noticeable from the road. We ordered a steak souvlaki plate, kids gyro plate, and gyro wrap. The portions for all three were very generous. The salad veggies were very fresh. The meat was grilled to order, and everything was tasty! The kid really enjoyed the Greek soup and wanted to dip everything including the feta fries in the Tzatziki sauce. I am so glad a Greek place opened up on this side of town. The owner is always there with a friendly smile and actively a participating member of the team. The staff needs more experience but that will come in time. Since it was our first time ordering I decided instead of getting meals I ordered one of every protein kabob and made my own grilled veggies at home to go with them. My family favs were absolutely the grilled shrimp as they were like a flavor bomb of grilled yumminess. Next we all agreed on the lamb, gyro meat, and the chicken although it was a tad dry. They were all packed with tadziki which was one of the best I ever had and topped with a diced tomato and onion salad. I do recommend getting the app so you can order online and earn rewards.
