When I lived in Atlanta, I could walk to my nearest Mellow Mushroom, and that location also delivered to our home address. A rarity indeed. Now it's a 45-50 minute trip up to Wilmington from Holden Beach, but definitely worth it when the cravings hit. And if I happen to be in the area, I like to stop by to get a go-to order to bring home even if I can't dine in. Like the best Mellow Mushrooms, this Wilmington location nails the flavor and consistency of their pizzas, calzones, and salads. Our usual takeout order consists of a large pepperoni mushroom pizza, a large greek salad with Esperanza dressing, and a Gluten Free House Special with extra cheese. Be sure to let them know if your GF pizza is for an allergy, and they will prepare it in a safe manner. Husband also enjoys a sausage calzone from time to time. The location off Oleander is easy to get to, and there's plenty of parking. The outdoor seating area is great when the weather cooperates. The friendly and helpful staff aim to please. I visited Mellow Mushroom at the North Water Street location, which is not in Yelp yet so I am leaving my review here. We ordered a Merry Prankster & Might Meat. Out of 5 I would give it 4.5 to both pizzas! They both had awesome flavor and still hot when we picked up. I highly recommend both, and also the thin crust is Customer service was top notch with a very welcoming atmosphere. If you visit the North Water Street location you'll have to park on the street, but it's worth the visit! read more

Stopped in for lunch! We sat outside as it was a beautiful day. My son ordered the lunch special :2 slices with drink and my daughter the 1 slice special. We come here fairly often because of their vegan offerings but lately it's been a struggle to get the servers and kitchen to deliver what we order. For example, the vegan salad is supposed to come with vegan feta not mozzarella. Ordered it and it came with mozz. Tries to send it back because it wasn't right and was told they were out of feta but weren't told that when we ordered and weren't offered a discount or other option. The pizzas are solid and love that outside in dog friendly. The music inside and out is almost always too loud though so try to sit away from the speakers if you want to have a conversation. read more

Only one thin slice of portobello. Really?!? The pizza tasted great but I was expecting to have mushrooms throughout the pizza. I guess this is what Mellow Mushroom does. Service was less than good. As soon as I got my pizza, the server moved to another table. I wanted some hot pepper flakes. Halfway through my pizza, he finally came around to check on me. Their pizza is delicious, atmosphere is wacky/fun, service is wonderful, and they have a variety of different types of pizza you wouldn't pair that oddly taste different! A long day at work = drinks and good food! Mellow Mushroom didn't disappoint! Being a margarita lover, I had to try all three! The original RB margarita was tasty and tart. My favorite was RB Made Wild! WOW. Tangy & Sweet! However, the RB Gone Fernal was a great mix of both with hints of cinnamon & caramel. I wanted a salad and boy did I get a good one. I ordered a pizza to go. When I was eating the second piece I bit on something hard in the crust. I looked at it and it was a fingernail!!!! I could not even believe it!!! I got violently sick. I was so mad so I called and talked to the manager. She told me it was impossible because they all wear gloves and kind of acted like I was lying. It had been years since I had been to a Mellow Mushroom but once my daughter and I were out on that side of Wilmington we decided to stop on in. We got a cheesy bread, Caesar salad, and a kids pizza. I should have read closer and seen that the kids pizzas are on french bread, which is not what my daughter was expecting. The cheesy bread was also on french bread, and was extremely cheesy. Overall, it was just okay. I have always been and continue to be a big fan of their salads though. Their dressings are really nice and their portions are pretty large. Overall, it was just an okay experience. I may go back sans-child and try some of their specialty pizzas that I use to get back in the day and give them a second chance. read more
