Here's the 411: - Three blocks away from the main downtown area in Paso Robles. - "Amenities" include a fridge and oddly positioned tv. - Tiny ass shower. OK Yelpers, full disclosure - I was really nervous about staying here this past weekend with my husband for my birthday weekend, but if you know Paso, then you know it costs a FORTUNE to stay anywhere even remotely close to downtown. But you all rated this place so highly, so we decided to check it out! Let me be completely honest - this was the BEST DECISION we could have made!!! As other Yelpers mentioned, it's a throw-back to the 70s. Outdated fixtures, a tube TV, you get the idea. But the mattress was new, and super comfy, and the room and bathroom were SPOTLESS. We paid around $75 per night (over the weekend!). If you're planning a trip to Paso, and you want something walking distance to the downtown tasting rooms, shops and restaurants, but you don't need all of the luxury a resort has to offer, THIS is the place. I give it 4 starts (I'd give 4 and a half if I could) but it has nothing to do with the place itself - it's because since this is a traditional motel, guests will walk right by your door. Since I'm a light sleeper, the "early rising" guests weren't as good about keeping their voices down when walking by our door, so I woke up earlier then planned. Thank you Melody Ranch Motel!! At first glance this motel (yes, you can drive your car right up to the door) looks a bit out of time. The closer you look and you understand very clearly *it is* out of another time. 1972 I think. AND believe me, this is the Melody Ranch's charm. The owner can be found behind the registration desk more often than most hotel/motel owner's. She is very friendly and accomodating. She knows her regular guests and it seems there are folks who stay season after season. (not night after night, thankfully) We visited the Melody Ranch twice the same afternoon before checking in. Having arrived in Paso Robles with no reservations, our normal operation is to scan the area and pop into a few places to get an idea of what's on offer. We made fun of the Melody Ranch on our first pass by. The first visit was based purely on economics. We had sticker shock from the other places we'd checked out. Hotel Cheval, Paso Robles Inn and La Bellasera....all beautiful but more than we were willing to part with for one night. We didn't jump at the rate which was 1/3 the price of the other hotels. Why? We 'assumed' the place would be musty and untidy. After exhausting valuable sipping time in search of a better value, we just coudn't find it and decided to check in at the Melody Ranch. This place is CLEAN. No, it hasn't been redecorated since what appears to be 1972 AND YES, you can eat off the floors it's so tidy. There is a swimming pool - we did not swim. We did have a good night's sleep in a clean comfortable room and the best part is...the next morning we didn't have to roll our bags too far...our car was right outside the door! At $65- for a room with 2 double beds and a bath this place BLEW the competition away in value. I'd stay here again for a 'one off' night. :) read more

I travel to the Paso area often and usually stay a couple nights in San Miguel however my usual place was booked. I checked around and called the Melody Ranch - was quoted a price of $61 for a Saturday night - reasonable based on the accommodations and lack of services. They took my credit card number and said they would see me Saturday. I showed up Saturday and the nice young lady said "that will be $87 please??????Huh? I explained that I had called and the gentlemen had quoted me a price of $55 plus tax for around $61 - to which I was promptly told, sorry can't do it. So I explained that isn't the way it works - as I was taken back as she flipped open a book full of names and credit card numbers - Jesus Christ. One of the owners comes up after she calls and he refuses to honor the quoted price saying he just can't do it because everyone else is paying the "weekend rate" and they are full and I have the last room..yada yada yada..his only concession was he offered to call motel 6 for me. Really? I think I can call motel 6 all on my own if I want. He than called someone else and they had this huge conversation - basically saying it was obviously my fault that they had misquoted and just did not see how they could honor the quote and it was a whole $26. I calmly explained that I would do everything in my power to let everyone know how crappy I had been treated. So the nice gentlemen said "well I am a Christian so I will pay the difference out of my paycheck". Me, being just as nice - don't give a rats ass about your religion I just want you to do what you said you were going to do. And.... The room sucked - it has a gas heater that the pilot light stays on and flickers all night giving off weird shadows all night. The TV might be a 13" and is clear across the room so you have to squint to see it. The pillows are ridiculously flat and the AC is not the appropriate size for the room. The water pressure is so bad you have to dance around to get wet - and the walls are so thin I enjoyed the drunken conversation and rooting around from next door all night. The pool is about the size of a large bathtub. read more

This is your no frills, standard motel, comparable to a Motel 6, but cheaper, in this case. We stayed here on a Monday of Thanksgiving week. I asked around and this motel had the lowest rate. Seeing that I'm frugal, I was sold. Of course, reading other people's positive reviews did help in the decision making process. As I said, this is a simple motel. There are only 21 rooms and 21 parking spots. You park your car next to your room. There is also a small pool located in the front of the motel, near the street. The office attendant was friendly and check in was simple. Our room had a double bed, small bathroom and closet, an old TV, and wi-fi access. The decor was definitely a blast to the past. It was rather quiet here, perhaps due to it being a Monday. The motel is centrally located near Downtown Paso Robles, so it was easy for us to find a restaurant. There is also a park located nearby in case you wanted to go for a morning stroll or run to preemptively burn off the calories that you'll gain from wine tasting. To sum up, I would definitely stay at Melody Ranch Motel again next time I go wine tasting in Paso Robles. read more

We only needed to stay one night, and the rate was reasonable with no additional charges beyond what I was quoted over the phone, which I appreciate. An impromtu drive up to Paso for a little wine tasting this week. Looked online for hotels and didn't see any great deals/locations... so checked yelp. Saw the good reviews for the Melody Ranch Motel, and liked the proximity to downtown Paso. Called them up and booked for two nights @ around $63/night. FYI- I don't think they'll show up on travel/hotel search websites. Check in was a breeze, and we were off to our room with the key. The room definitely has charm... if you're looking for bathrobes in the closet, 800 count sheets and flat-screen tv's in your room... you best look elsewhere. If you're in the market for a good room, with 60's-70's kitsch appeal, this should be your place. It's an old-school motel, and if you remember staying at one of these places while taking the family land cruiser to the relatives place... then you know exactly what I'm talking about. If you're in town for wine tasting/vacation, chances are you won't be spending a whole lot of time in the room anyway. So do yourself a favor and book at this place... it's within walking distance to downtown and close to the 101... and it'll be less expensive than the other joints (which means more wine!!) read more

A no-frills motel with clean rooms and friendly staff. We were staying in Paso Robles on a busy weekend when rooms were hard to come by. We came across this property on Yelp and decided to stay based on the reviews. We are glad we did. The beds are comfortable, and rooms include a refrigerator, a small coffee maker, a small table, a small flat-screen TV, and the shower included shampoo, conditioner, and soap packets. It is an older property; check in was done manually, and room keys are actually keys not electronic key-cards. But the staff was very friendly, the rooms and linens were clean and comfortable, parking was assigned with spaces near the rooms, and the property itself is very close to downtown and the town square. We stayed here 3 nights as part of a wine tasting trip and were quite satisfied. The rooms were definitely on the small side, and as others have noted the decor is a complete throwback to the 70's, but the rooms were immaculately clean, the staff friendly and helpful (they live on site), and the location amazing--not only is it easy to/from wine tasting but it's a short walk to food/drinks/shopping/coffee/bars/movies. The pool is smallish but was heated so even on a cold, rainy weekend at least one of us enjoyed a swim. Rooms do not come with refrigerators standard but they have a few small ones they will give you one of if you request it. the occupancy charge for more than 2 people is also a very inexpensive $2 (enough to cover towel and water). One problem we had was paucity of outlets (the 70's didn't anticipate us needing to charge all our gadgets). If we go back (and we probably will), we'll be sure to bring a power strip. Other than that, it was quick, clean, quiet, and friendly. All you could ask for in a sleep cheap! I'm going to start this off my saying that my fiance and I don't usually stay in nice places. Hotel rooms to us are strictly a place to shit shower and sleep. This place was just terrible. The only reason I didn't give it a single star is because the owners/employees are SUPER nice. Expect the rooms to be very basic. Just the necessary amenities, not at all bad. Now on to the bed. We ended up sleeping with a single sheet because there were crustables on the blanket. I'm taking like other people's bodily fluids crusted on the blanket as if they forgot to wash it. Secondly the sheets were like sandpaper. No joke we woke up with raw, scratched up elbows . We couldn't wait to leave. Apparently the owner didn't have our info on file because SO MANY PEOPLE CANCEL WHEN THEY SEE WHAT THIS PLACE LOOKS LIKE. His. Words. I'm pretty sure they go right next door to the Paso Robles Inn. This place has a ton of potential. Really all that needed to be done was cleaner slightly nicer sheets and maybe a not so sticky shower. Clean and comfortable, and everything in the room works perfectly. It's not a Hilton, and they are not trying to be! You can walk just about anywhere you would want to go in Paso from here, and the square is less than half a block. My room had a mini fridge that I did not use, but you may need one....its a bit larger than your basic mini. There are extra towels in the drawers of the desk, and they have been there each time I have stayed there. Enjoy! My boyfriend and I are from the bay up north, but we had reservations for a show in Paso Robles last weekend. We had well pre-planned for this trip, and this was a motel we found with affordable prices. Checking in was a breeze, checking out was a breeze. No complications or anything! My one and only complaint is that the walls are a bit too thin. I remember waking up during the night because a man and a woman were trying to get into the room right next to ours! They had complications entering at first, but they figured it out eventually. Once they got inside, it got quiet again. Good to know the wall between rooms were thick enough to block out sound, but not thick enough if I can hear them jiggling their car keys. All in all though, we enjoyed our one night here. read more

Stayed here as a group of seven (7) on motorcycles AGAIN and AGAIN it was perfect ! Having been here before we know their excellence is sustained over time. The family that owns and runs it is wonderful. They were very accommodating to us and demonstrated their concern for ALL their guests by politely asking us to roll our motorcycles out of the parking lot before starting them early in the morning. We had a ball at the Melody Ranch! After an all-day drive to Paso Robles from San Diego, we unlocked our room and walked into 1958. We give it 5 stars because the accommodations met our expectations and staff was always friendly and helpful (4 stars), and location gets it the 5th star. It is a vintage, retro motor-court motel that is the real-deal - not a hyped-up remodeled reproduction. These are the experiences I love about traveling! If you're looking for a cutesy-boutique motel, this is not for you. The decor and furniture are dated, mismatched, and worn, but the floors and bathroom were very clean, the bedsheets were bright and crisp and smelled like clean laundry, and the towels were bright white and fluffy (and I'm picky about these things!) The toiletries were very minimal, probably like motels were in 1958. We found the small room details - obviously original - very entertaining: the metal Kleenex dispenser mounted on the bathroom wall and the funny metal gadget on the door that you turn to indicate Maid Requested or Do Not Disturb. The unexpected bonus was being walking distance to the the action of downtown Paso Robles for drinks, dinner, and stroll around the park. The owner is very friendly and gracious and can ways be seen about the property working hard to ensure everything is up to snuff and that you're satisfied. There is AC, heat, and free WiFi! There is an extra sitting area for your computer or other stuff. Bring an extension cord for your chargers because I couldn't find many outlets, but there was a power strip available. The Melody Hotel is great! The staff is so kind and the place looks fun. We showed up around midnight (past their closing time) and Barbara opened the door for us. Unfortunately they had booked our room for the week after (a rare occurrence she assured us). We were slightly disappointed but Barbara began calling other hotels in the area and found one close by. She said to come back in the morning and they would pay the difference. We showed up the next morning and everyone was so nice about the whole situation, apologizing and they payed for the difference like Barbara said. They even recommended a great local spot for coffee! My daughter lives in No Cal and I live in So Cal, so we decided to meet in the middle for a girls' weekend and to celebrate her birthday. Looked on line for places to stay and thought the Melody Ranch Motel would be just the place for us. It was perfect....great location, within walking distance of everything we wanted to do, near great restaurants, thrift stores, a number of spas to choose from. AND, the price was amazing....we knew we weren't going to be spending much time in the room, so didn't need anything fancy. Comfy, clean and the people were very helpful and accommodating. I'm not a 4 or 5 star kind of tourist gal, I want to explore a place and I just need a comfortable place to sleep. As others have mentioned, it is a very retro 70's time warp experience which is kinda fun. No fridge, microwave, hair dryer, or iron and the TV is circa 1980 big-box but that's okay, I didn't need any fancy ammenities. What I did need was a decent bed. Unfortunately, THE SHEETS ON THE QUEEN SIZE BED WERE TOO SMALL (did the maids run out of sheets?) The UNFITTED, FLAT BOTTOM SHEET was either a twin or a full and could only be tucked under at the corners. The top sheet barely came over the sides and after a few minutes in bed watching late night TV (not "romping about") everything was coming undone. The mattress and UNFITTED FULL-SIZED PAD became exposed and I kept waking up due to the tangled, jumbled, lumpiness and an aversion to touching the mattress. Had to remake the bed twice during the night. Also, those of you unaccustomed to gas wall heaters (I am used to them) might find it a bit noisy. We wanted to be walking distance to downtown for NewYearsEve but ended up moving somewhere else. The manager told us his feelings were hurt and that he'd never had a complaint (sorry dude) so maybe this was a freak occurance. read more

What a hidden gem! During a trip to Paso Robles wine country my ladyfriend and I found ourselves with an extra day to spend. We had stayed in Atascadero but were looking for a last minute place walking distance to the downtown Paso area. The nice lady at the Chamber of Commerce suggested this place and we decided to give it a look. Don't judge a book by it's cover! When we first pulled up we though we had stumbled onto the 1970s but once you got past that you'd find: 1. Super friendly staff 2. VERY reasonable prices (ask about AAA discounts) 3.
