Great friendly service and has a menu that offers all the diner standards, but all the food seemed old, reheated, dry and really worth about half the prize paid. I won't be back. This place has the best value for the money. You have to go here!! Our family has already ate here twice in the 4 days that we were here. I ordered the surf & turf for only $16.99. The filet was cooked perfectly throughout. Very tender. The lobster was delicious and tender. The salad with the strawberries, goat cheese and almonds was amazing!! Margaritas are only $3. Disappointing. Friends recommended this place, but perhaps they meant the other location, because this one was nothing special. The host gave us a 20 minute estimated wait time then forgot to seat us. After 45 minutes, I asked him why he seated four groups that arrived after us. He offered no apology. Our server was busy but did her best. The coffee was just warm, our omelets were good but not great, and good value for the money. Very good, low prices. Servers are excellent. However..... looks like menu hasn't been updated since 1970 or so. Several of our fish orders were over cooked. Common romaine lettuce and generic cesar (low garlic) dressing..... and cheap Bisquick-biscuits ?? Good place for a family. I'll return but hope owner upgrades much of the menu.... he could start adding more greens and herbs to salads..... dry some spicy or fruity sauces on the fish, maybe some more wines?? Decore is fun, though needs new carpet. One table was mostly enclosed so it helped with conversations with seniors who are hard of hearing. read more

A real diner!!! Wish there was one on the east coast wherever live. Real diner food, diner staff, total diner experience. Julienne salad had real off the frame turkey, always a good sign. Mel's Diner is a great place to go with the family. The decor is cute with a 50's theme. The pricing is average not to cheep, but very reasonable. THe food is pure comfort food. They have burgers, sandwiches, meatloaf, soup, and more. It is what I call a typical greasy spoon, but very memorable because of the decor and good quality of the food. What keeps me from making my rating a 5 star is that the seating is tight. There is stairs with a narrow path way, and we were seated at an open face table looking out at the diner. So, we moved. I came in last week for breakfast. It was amazing, the omelet I had was one of the best ever. Try the Mediterranean omelet it's so good and comes with potatoes and soft biscuit. Coffee was fresh and always hot. I highly recommend this place. The staff were very friendly also, I had a server named Echo and she was the best.Very friendly and will make you feel right at home. There last night with friends. Waited for some time to get in. But there was 14 of us and had to be split in two tables. Not a problem. A VERY popular and always crowded place. I can see why. Very generous portions at very reasonable prices. A very varied menu with daily specials. Give it a try. Despite some things I read here, I found it to be very comfortable, wait staff very professional and courteous and the manager or owner stops by to ask how it's going. There are two prime rib sizes...12 and 14ozs. Take the larger, for the price ($15.99) and better as a thicker slice. Salad was the usual nice size. Not rushed here and everyone (14pp) was happy with their meals. We were there on a Tuesday night when the evenings special was Fried Buttermilk Chicken which again was a very nice portion, but I opted for another fave of theirs...the prime rib. Stale fries, cold tuna melt, server Candy offered applesauce as a replacement for fries, brought out hot slices, the type served with pork chops, though I didn't order pork chops. So the two items that are supposed to be served hot, were cold, and the one item I expected to be cold, was hot. In other words, a really terrible meal, with no one that cared, despite bringing it to the attention of the server and two people at the front. I was very quiet and polite in pointing what happened.
