Fried Duroc Pork Cutlet
Michelle H.

This spot is a classic diner, both in its decor and the food it serves. We enjoyed a large meal at a very affordable price. I ordered the Country Fried Pork Cutlet, and the pork was crispy and flavorful. The sides were a bit underwhelming and could have used more seasoning. The key lime pie was tasty and made for a nice ending to the meal.

Came in with my dad for an early bird dinner. I hadn't been here in probably close to 15 years and everything was great, just as I remembered. Menu is large and there's no shortage of various items to choose from. I went with the Grouper Oscar special with a crab cake on top, spinach and key lime sauce. Fantastic! Service was great as well. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.

Scrambled eggs, potatoes and biscuit with country gravy

We were hungry and having breakfast at Mel's Diner was a good idea. Our order was brought out fast and the food was served hot with generous portions. Hubs went with the country omelette and hash browns and I decided on the two eggs with potatoes. Both our breakfast choices were served with a biscuit smothered in country gravy. It reminded me of a breakfast my grandma would have made on the farm. The menu has lots of choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The best thing about Mel's is eating real food, not fusion or trendy, but ordinary meals prepared with fresh ingredients. They offer a variety of options for breakfast like pancakes, omelets and interesting items like eggs Benedict with salmon. Their lunchtime menu has plenty of sandwiches and salads, and for the dinner menu, think pot roast, meatloaf and fried chicken. Prices are reasonable here and Mel's is right off Tamiami Trail. A good place to stop by when you're hungry.

Great food...expansive menu..excellent service (Peter was such a helpful and positive server). Naples is lucky to have such a gem like "Mel's Diner"...the General Manager, John, makes sure guests are happy and the restaurant is well run. You can pretty much find anything you are craving on the menu...there's even a millionaire corner (fancy menu items). Love this place!

Mushroom Swiss Burger

Two of us from our office decided to get hamburgers from Mel's. It was a late lunch and we were hungry. The service was good and attentive. Unfortunately, the mushroom Swiss burgers were both overcooked to our liking. One was ordered medium-rare and the other was ordered medium but they both were served well-done. The burgers were not dry but not great. The bun was very small and dry. Also, the burgers came with lettuce, tomato, pickle, coleslaw, and fries (not pictured).

I wanted to like Mel's Diner more as I generally enjoy retro diners, but my experience at their Naples location left much to be desired. It's an older building and didn't have that much retro diner theming throughout to generate much atmosphere, and the music didn't do much in creating a fun vibe. They did have some nice pictures, but they were in odd corners of the diner, and out of the view of most of the tables. We went with the Tuscan chicken pasta and the chicken parmigiana sandwich. Both were fine and huge portions, but neither were inspired with regards to recipe and were very average tasting. The pesto pasta was ok, and served with decently seasoned chicken. The chicken parmigiana sandwich was a generous filet of chicken much too large for the bun, but neither the bun, breading, chicken, sauce, nor cheese was particularly memorable. The Caesar salad was a run of the mill recipe, but was serviceable. The onion rings that came with the sandwich were tasty, but came out a bit saturated, leaving some unappetizing pools of oil on the plate they were served on. If the job is filling up your stomach, it's perfectly ok, but I would have preferred smaller portions of quality food over larger portions of average tasting and unmemorable food. Our waitress raved about the carrot cake dessert, so we naturally tried it, but that was mundane much like the rest of the food. Service was friendly, but our waitress forgot to enter an appetizer we ordered, so wound up skipping it (probably a good idea considering the portion sizes of the meals). They have a very varied menu, so perhaps some of the items taste better, but overall this was a very average (2.5/5) diner experience for us. Perhaps one of their other southwest Florida locations may deliver a better dining experience, but Mel's Diner in Naples would not make my food recommendation list.

Breakfast.... no water, breakfast spread ( not butter), rationed syrup, cooked last night bacon. Don't understand the hype.

Mel's diner is your typical diner. We are from New Jersey and love diners. The foods great and very reasonably priced.

My new fav vacay alcoholic beverage. This place is lively and lots of TVs to keep up with your fav sport team. It's also a Seminole bar (go gators). I won't hold it against them. Lol. I was going to order the calamari and 6 oysters. Putting north of $30 for supper. One of the people in the party ordered a smash burger, and I thought, what the heck, I'll order that. Pretty good burger. For those who like to drink under a thatched roof outside, there is a tikki hut. The establishment's motif is all over the map. But let's just stay with the island theme in Naples, FL. Would I go back again? I don't know, I have had this book marked, and I have eaten at another of their establishments, Sonny's. They do not have the same menu. I like that.

Another great visit to Backyard Fire Grill--this place just doesn't miss…read more Stopped in with my wife for a low-key evening, grabbed some wings and a couple of cold beers. Simple? Sure. But sometimes simple done right is all you need. The wings were on point, the beers were cold, and the vibes were immaculate. Great music, laid-back atmosphere, the kind of spot where you walk in stressed and walk out smiling. And then there's Tina. She waited on us again, and honestly, she's a big part of why we keep coming back. Always awesome, always on top of it, makes you feel like a regular even if you're not. Good service elevates a good meal into a great experience, and Tina delivers every time. Here's my only complaint: I wish there was one closer to Fort Myers. We'd be here all the time if it wasn't a trek. And honestly? This concept would crush it as a larger restaurant with a full bar. Palm Beach Boulevard is seriously lacking in quality restaurant options, Backyard Fire Grill would absolutely dominate that area. Just putting that out into the universe. Someone make it happen. The Verdict: Wings, beers, great vibes, and Tina taking care of us, another five-star visit to Backyard Fire Grill. This place has the formula dialed in. Now expand it so we don't have to drive so far. Please and thank you.

Our server Mike, did an excellent job taking care of us. We started off with a couple cocktails. I had an Old Fashioned and my wife had the Not Bogged Down. For dessert, we split the special Crème Brûlée topped with diced fruit. We enjoyed the dessert so much, we purchased one for a sweet family of four sitting next to us. Major shout-out to Ashley behind the bar -- absolute pro -- though honestly the entire bar staff deserves applause. Watching the bartenders run the room is like watching a choreographed ballet. They somehow keep a mental spreadsheet of the waitlist, open seats, timing, and guest flow, seamlessly slotting people in without chaos or drama. It's impressive, calm, and clearly run by people who know exactly what they're doing. Now, to the inevitable dog commentary: yes, restaurants have rules. Yes, health codes exist.
