Always go to Mel's as soon as we get to Pigeon Forge, but our last visit was very disappointing. Two of us ordered the pot roast and one portion was full of fat. Also the portions are shrinking while the prices are increasing. Our wait person was not very attentive, but busy chatting with coworkers. Needless to say we did not make our usual 2nd visit this trip and hoping this was just an off day. read more

Our party grabbed dinner there - it's a little off the main road and has a 50s or 60s diner vibe. They seem very committed to the theme - the booths were cramped and the aisles were tight. I had the James' Works burger cause I wanted everything on it. The toppings were good. The burger patty was more on the softer side if you like that sort of thing (like noticeably soft...). The chili topping was nice. The group loved seeing the variety of side (starch) items: chips, fries, pasta salad, or potato salad. I saw another Yelper recommend the pricey onion ring upgrade. I took the recommendation, but the onion rings - they were not worth it. I stole fries from someone else's plate. The fries were pretty good. read more

Stopped for breakfast before heading back to NC. Cute, fun diner!! Booth seating. Stepping back into the 50's! Good was very good and served quickly! Prices reasonable for a tourist town. We will stop again next time we are in Pigeon Forge. read more

We absolutely loved coming here. We almost came our second night but they were closed. We enjoyed the hike box and the environment of the diner. The memorabilia was fun to look at. Our food was soooo good! The pancakes were the main hit of our families orders. We also had the burger and a chicken sandwich, all of which were very tasty. Nice portion sizes. Our server was fun and attentive. We will definitely have to make this a regular stop on our pigeon forge adventures. read more

This place was our second choice when we got to Tennessee Wednesday afternoon after we couldn't try The Bigfoot cheesesteak place which we tried today and it's absolutely TRASH but I did that review go read it!!! However we came to Mel's it's a small little diner that you will miss on the strip if you're not paying attention but my large party of 10 squeezed on in there anyway. Our server Whitney took the orders she was sweet polite and very attentive she made sure we was well taken care of! Now the diner had an odor that most customers was complaining about but they did the best they could to take care of that for the most part my party was happy the Nashville hot chicken amazing the club sandwich amazing chicken tenders kids were happy French fries now of us liked so get fried okra or onion rings instead the burgers are decent and this place wasn't too pricey so if you're in town give them a try hopefully you will like it!!!! read more

I loved the decor of the diner...the inside also appeared nice and clean. Not much of the food on the yelp picture reviews appealed to me so ending up ordering breaks fast for lunch---it was so-so. Maybe other food items would have been a better choice. I would give the diner another try, and order something else read more

We arrived at 11pm on a Saturday, asked to order takeout, and they refused- said they don't allow to-go orders after 10pm for whatever reason. The lady told us to wait in our car or outside for a table, if we wanted to eat. After 5-10 minutes, they called us in for a table. Maybe it was end of the night and everyone was tired, but their customer service sucked big time. The lady that told us to wait outside had an attitude, as if we were bothering them by coming in. The young lady that was our server didn't seem to want to be there- she barely said a few words when taking our order- don't believe she made eye contact or smiled at all throughout. Once she brought out our food, she disappeared and we had to flag her down. The mushroom burger was sad- the mushrooms were definitely poured directly from a can, not even sautéed or put on the grill. Only reason I'm not giving them 1 star is because the fries and banana split were decent. Otherwise, it was an epic fail of a diner in my books. read more

Wait here after leaving Dollywood late . We had to wait five minutes for a seat, but it wasn't bad. The service was prompt and friendly. They had a wide variety of things to choose from. I had the pot roast, which was delicious and hit the spot after a long day. Fried okra was delicious! The wife had pulled pork which was also delicious. Kiddos had cheese burgers, grilled cheese, and chicken nuggets. They had a lot of breakfast options too which I seriously considered ordering. Everything looked delicious. A good choice for us. We were looking for dinner after 10:30 pm and Mel's was open until midnight. It was a Wed night and we still waited about 10 min for a table. I ordered the fried chicken tenders salad and my dinner companion had the cheesesteak. His was a bit on small side while mine was generous. I couldn't finish it if I wanted to save room for dessert. Both meals were pretty good. We ordered the Hot Fudge Cake to share which was tasty. The waitress was nice and surprisingly attentive for as crowed as it was. The floor was really dirty, but I don't know what you can do about that with the amount of traffic. The other surfaces were clean. Tip for the mgmt... don't have the crew spray the tables and glass between booths while people are still eating at the next tables. The spray gets into the air and the odor is very unpleasant. Maybe spray directly into rag so mist doesn't permeate into the air. read more

Mel's diner is located on the parkway close to the Pink Jeep tours. The outside has the vibe of a classic 50s diner with car pictures on the windows. Inside you will find a jukebox and the whole diner surrounded with various Tee shirts for sale. If you are looking to buy a Tee check out the coupons in the various tourist brochures about Pigeon Forge. You'll find a $2.00 off coupon. All meals are served all day here. Friendly service. I noticed that they were now selling cinnamon rolls here. My husband, daughter and I decided to split one and we were smart on this one. It was delicious and yes you could make a bit of a mini meal out of it. I had the "hot mama" egg white omelette that cam with veggies and a side of hash browns and toasts. My husband and daughter both had pancakes. We got our food in a decent amount of time. I really enjoyed the omelette and found it gave me a break from the egg yolk ones. The hash browns were fairly bland but I figured out later they allow you to season them yourself as you like. My husband and daughter both enjoyed their pancakes with our daughter taking some of it home with them. I must admit I like the tees here. You can scan the placemat they give you for the various colors. They make great gifts for the car enthusiast on your list. They also have some small souvenirs in their case and I ended with a rubber ducky Mickey and Minnie. We enjoyed visiting here and hopefully would like to try a lunch or dinner if we ever return. Located on the parkway in Pigeon Forge they have their own parking lot. read more

Our group visited for lunch and came back for a breakfast to this 50's style diner. Decorated like the ones we grew up with in NJ, our waitress Flo made us feel right at home. It was almost free entertainment from her as she took our orders, and even remembered that the teenager in our group didn't use butter for his pancakes. Our food was quickly brought out, was good, and the second time we visited unfortunately had a hair in the eggs - yuck! That was fixed by another plate being brought out but it took away my appetite halfway through my BLT. Took the rest of it home but will probably discard it. Inexpensive place to try - very busy during most days and is a lively place with music from the 50's and 60's. read more

Probably our favorite restaurant in Pigeon Forge. Place was packed and the service was as fast as it could be. Prices were affordable and large portion, all three of us agreed the portions were massive. Mel's truly is designed and feels like a diner from years ago. Food was good. I had the chicken fried steak, fried corn & okra. The steak was pounded very thin...so more breading that steak, but the gravy was excellent. The okra was good. The fried corn was not even warm, but it was tasty. Hubs got the cheese omelette & toast. He said it was very good. Service was meh...the staff seemed more interested in each other than they did customers. I was hoping for a bit of a 'diner' atmosphere, recommendations on what to have, engaging regarding the dessert menu, etc. However, other than being loud & crowded, the atmosphere fell flat. One of the biggest surprises while visiting Pigeon Forge was the lack of restaurants open past 10pm: this is a tourist town whose biggest destination (Dollywood) closes at 10! Where are all the restaurants ready to serve the exhausted, hungry crowds exiting the park?? Anyways- we were thrilled when we discovered that Mel's was not only open, but it was fun inside and had good food. Server was very friendly. Not a lot on the menu for vegetarians, but I enjoyed my grilled cheese (which I jazzed up with sliced tomatoes). read more

Friends and I came and traveled all the way ti TN from Chicago for fun and I really enjoyed my time here: We had to wait about 30-45 mins due to a long wait around 10-11 PM, and there's parking outside which is amazing. Service was okay due to it being packed. I got my food really late and it's okay! Food was decent. I ordered chili and it's saltier than I expected, but it's pretty good. We also had breakfast foods from Mel's Diner and it was normal for most breakfast places. Other than that, prices were really cheap and I would definitely come back here again! read more

I asked the waitress for some butter for my grits, and she said "more butter?", as if it was fine the way it came, and what is wrong with me:-( The shrimp on the Po Boy was NOT Blackened. No spices what-so-ever. The french fries that came with it, were the best part of that meal:-( Our waitress, Becca M, avoided eye contact with us the entire time we ate, and remember, the place was over half empty. Once we were finished eating, she came over, after waiving her down, and asked how our meal was. We reported to her the unsatisfactory meal but we ate it because we were on a quick break from work & needed to hurry. We did not have time for a 2nd breakfast to be cooked. She picked up the bill & asked us to wait a minute. She returned after a while & told us she removed the charges for the two iced teas! So, we paid $35. for two people to have a crummy meal while on a quick break from work. FINALLY - we are so sick of those horrible metal chairs in the dining room. They hurt most people's outer legs/hips & do not encourage a customer to relax & be comfortable. In the past, the food was so good, we would just over look the chairs, but after today's horrible food & the lack of anyone caring about our visit, we won't be using our hard earned money to eat crummy food & be uncomfortable. FYI: after removal of our iced tea, our meal was $29.90, we did include a $5.00 tip.

We walked in around 3pm on a Saturday and were told it'd be maybe a ten minute wait but then got a text as soon as we sat down that a table was ready!
