So here's the thing. In October '25, I had another place change both wheel sensors in my SUV. Immediately afterwards, 2 dash lights came on & wouldn't go away. I took it back to this unnamed place, and they could not fix it. After some minor complaining, the mechanic sent me to Melvin's up the road, where I met the manager, "Chris". I waited for maybe 10 minutes before they looked at my car....20 minutes later, it was fixed - Dash lights, gone!!!! And Chris didn't charge me anything for this. The staff is ALWAYS courteous and professional, kind and attentive, and they are BUSY. The phone is ringing off the hook and people are constantly in and out of the doors. Still, the customer service associates never lose their cool. I went in the other day because after filling up my tires, I got the low tire notice. I assumed that meant I had a leak, but really the system was so sensitive, it was going off because I had overfilled them. Melvin checked it out for me, got the tires the right pressure, and charged me NOTHING! When the mechanic handed over my keys, he talked to me for a second and said he had to look it up online because he hadn't seen that either. You could just tell, he really liked his job and figuring out how cars work. This is definitely my garage from now on, and it should be yours too. read more

I had an appointment at 3pm at the Melvin's in Johnston RI I called to see if I could get in earlier they said to come by 11:30 got there by 11:14 they took my SUV in right away I waited for 40 minutes I finally checked as to why it was taking so long come to find out my tires were not there they asked me who I spoke with I told them one of you they tried to deny saying they spoke with me and blamed it on the call center not even man enough to own up to there incompetence I guess that's why they work there apparently a brain is not required to work at Melvin's in Johnston RI. Only good if you like gambling. Will you get a helpful or nice person on the phone? Will your work be done at all (especially if you bring it for several needs yet provide them in writing AND verbally) or on time? Will the work be done, or the problem diagnosed right? Will you be told it IS ready to be picked up when it isn't? I have especially not enjoyed going back again and again, explaining the problem that is usually not properly documented on their end, and either getting attitude or the runaround most of the time. I went to get tires on my car and made an appointment on line. The man who took my license plate number down messed it up by one digit which resulted in another vehicle/ person and overall information. Even though they placed the tires on with the right size but never correctly aligned my tires I had to go to Mavis to have that rectified because the woman who answered the phone about my concerns over the wrong information was extremely rude and wanted nothing to do with fixing it. She just dismissed me and didn't even care when I told her my car was shaking on the highway ... Leaking rear axle seals, contaminated rotors, and brake pads.I took it home and ordered the parts to fix it myself. As I took it apart I found no suck issues. I only gave one star because I had to put one I guess. Brought my truck in TWICE to have a tire repaired. The first repair lasted a couple of days. Brought it back again, it lasted 4 days. Almost got into an accident on the highway because the air came out again. Brought it to a totally different place . They said what Melvins did was illegal, put plugs for a tractor tire. I had a front end rattle, WHEN THE CAR WAS IDLING, and $500+ later the rattle was still there. Was told the problem was sway bar links, that they wanted to change last time they serviced my car, so I guess they were hell bent on getting paid for this job? Sway bars may rattle when moving but they were told it was when idling. I guess it served me right not to look at it myself because I have attached a picture what the problem was. Not only did they try and pull a fast one and try and sell her stuff that she did not need one of the staff members was very rude and disrespectful. This staff member decided to belittle and mock my grandmother because she would not purchase the services and multiple tires that she did not need. I received a phone quote for a battery, oil change, and 2 new tires. The quote for the tires was incorrect the first time from the phone representative so she called back telling me it was a mistake and the new price was higher. I was fine with that. I got a quote of 169 for my battery. I dropped of sat am and by 4 I received a call it was all set. I did fail inspection also because I needed brakes which I'm sure is true. I show up to pick up the car Sunday morning and things get interesting.. I paid my bill which seemed high but I wasn't exactly sure how much it should be. I look at the receipt my battery was 2 hundred dollars more than I was quoted but they gave me a 100 dollar credit so really I paid 100 more than the quote. So I go back in to get my refund. I was told politely that they need to call corporate to issue a refund. (Seems crazy) No one was sure if corporate is open sundays so I end up waiting for my refund. Now the mechanics come out and say we checked the paperwork and we didn't put a new battery in that car and we don't have one can you come back tomo. I couldn't because the point of the weekend was to get this done as we work during the week. So they call the owner who is talking to the mechanic in front of me on speakerphone and there was a disagreement if the battery was replaced or not.. eventually the owner clarifies he is positive it was replaced. I went there to pick up and was there over an hour while this all happened. To the owner and companies credit they did refund the battery. I was obviously frustrated and got in my car and the dust cover that covers the battery was in my passenger seat, my new tire tire pressures were low and all different, my valve stems on the new tires had no caps, and I needed windshield washer fluid with the warning light on. To say the least I will not go there again which stinks because previous to this we had great experiences. Also after waiting for corporate who never called about my refund the owner said it can be done through the credit card machine... why didn't that happen before I waited an hour read more

Sadly I brought my car in Sat for a simple alignment as I had recently purchased new tires. Within a few minutes the mechanic came out and told me there was a problem, that there was a broken bold on the rear upper lateral link. When asked cost to repair, he said $1000. When I informed him I no interest in fixing it for that much, bc there are other issues with the car, he offered to try and fix it a "different way" for $500. At that point I knew I wanted to take to my own mechanic to have it looked at. He quickly informed me the car was not safe to drive, that the tire could buckle under the car which was very dangerous. It was curious to me that the car had no issues when tires were put on recently, and the car was driving just fine prior to stopping. While advised against I drove the car to my mechanics and dropped off to check it. It was discovered that not only was it likely that the bolt was broken in the mechanics bay, but that they were working on the wrong parts all together If they were tying to do an alignment. If they knew what they were doing they would never have even touched the area with the broken bolt. Photographs show that #1, they were working on the wrong area, #2 the bolt that broke off, was obviously so recently broken that it was clean, no rust, no dirt. Fresh break. So now I am forced to fix my car, to upwards of 500$, for something my mechanic and I would bet a paycheck you actually caused yourselves. I am beyond angry. Mr Melvin, I would like to speak to you, this is now how I remember your father doing business. read more

Went to melvins after 2 awful experiences at town fair and I am veryyyy happy I did. I blew out one of my tires on a pothole and when calling them after town fair they were very accommodating. They didn't have my tire but said they could get it the next day and called at 9am the next morning. I asked if I could come in round 1pm and there was no issue. I waited only about 15 minutes ( 1st time I went town fair tire with an appointment waited almost 2 hours) and that was it and the prices are fair. I highly recommend this tire place, will only go here for tire needs from now on. read more

Every time I go in there they take such good care of my vehicle...they all know me by name...and half the time there's no charge if I'm having an issue with my tires like I want to get them rotated because I bought them there.
