When I was finally called up, it was not to be seen. It was to be told they don't accept my insurance. The exact insurance we provided when we booked. The exact insurance they confirmed when they took the appointment. An hour of my life burned because nobody at this office bothered to verify a single line of information before I drove in and sat down. The woman behind me in line had been waiting two hours past her appointment. Still not seen. The receptionist was lovely. That is not the issue. The issue is that this entire operation has decided patients are a captive audience. That our time has no value. That "we don't know" is a complete sentence. That confirmed appointments are suggestions and posted appointment times are decorative. Hospitals and imaging centers seem to think they get to behave like the DMV. They do not. There are other providers. There are other systems. And I will be using them. Run your front office. Verify insurance before the appointment, not after. Communicate with the people sitting in your lobby. Treat the appointment time as a commitment, not a placeholder. Until then, save people the trip. Hands-down, the worst experience at a doctors office. You guys are an absolute embarrassment.

Thank goodness for smartphones. I have never had an MRI before, but Leo the technician was very friendly and made the experience easier. I was worried that I might feel claustrophobic, but the machine was open at the end, so you could see the rest of the room. Results were available through the portal a few days later. The reason why I didn't give Hoag five stars is that the MRI was done in a trailer, next to the building. It felt kind of amateurish for a highly ranked hospital like Hoag.

The Hoag Breast Center on Sand Canyon is a clean facility with caring staff. I checked in via the online portal, answered the initial paperwork questions, and arrived to check-in. I still had another questionnaire to fill out via iPad in the lobby but my name was quickly called and I was walked back to change out of my clothes. They were super busy that day and I did not even get a locker but I was handed a bag to store my clothing after changing into the standard robe. I had two scans which I was charged separate copays for, which is kind of annoying but my scans were clear and I was advised to come back in six months to repeat it. My appointment was about an hour and I was on my way. I like that they are centrally located between work and home.

I was able to take time to go with him to one of his radiation appointments, along with my sister, and we were treated like old friends and given a pretty awesome lesson on what's happening and all the ins and outs of his treatment sessions. I learned a lot in the fast 15 minutes it took from beginning to end. Everyone we came in contact with was super pleasant and smiling. I knew my dad was in good hands when he told me, but to see for myself that he was 100% right was priceless. (he's usually 100% right though, but you know.....) While waiting for your appointment, they have coffee, water, snacks, donuts, pastries, candies and such for you to sample if you please. From the first appointment on, my father was called by his name. As we sat for a few minutes, when we were with him, we heard them do the same with each and every patient that walked through the door. Even the patients get to know each other! We will all be glad when my dad doesn't have to go to the Imaging Center any more, but we are just as grateful that while he was going through treatment that he was treated like the wonderful person that we know him to be. Even with some computer issues happening, they still managed to keep things moving and get people in and out as quickly as possible. It also really helped having someone up front directing patients. I didn't catch her name, but she was patient, organized, and clearly knew what she was doing while handling the crowd. I came in for lab work and my 1-hour glucose test, and Kevin did an amazing job drawing my blood. I absolutely hate needles, but he helped keep me calm and made the process quick and painless. Walk-ins are welcome, parking was easy to find, and the facility itself was kept very clean despite how busy it was. Overall, a really positive experience.

Quest has a bigger waiting area but only one check-in machine. However, its online appointment system is much better than Labcorp's--easier to use and more reliable. If Labcorp can improve its online system, the experience would be close to perfect. The check-in process at Labcorp was smooth, and I didn't wait long before being called. Labcorp did a good job.
