This food was DISGUSTING , wings were very small and more flats than drummettes, not crispy or seasoned. Two piece chicken the same as the wings. I have had this sandwich on my mind for a while, so I made an excuse to get out of the house for lunch and made my way down to the Quay for some Re-Up. The Fried Chicken Sandwich is seriously delicious. Crispy fried bits encase the juicy chicken, while slaw and bacon round it out. I could have easily eaten a second, not because of it's size but because it's so yummy. There's a reason Re-Up gets so much love. They make some seriously good food. Hands down the best Southern style barbecue I've had in the Lower Mainland. Before trying Re-Up, all I knew was Memphis Blues, and this place blows them out of the water. They sell out fast (especially on Fridays, sheesh) and the seating is shared food court-style with several other stores. But my five stars are dedicated to the food. Plus the people working the counter are always willing to substitute things if they've run out (aka more brisket!! More brisket!!). Melt-in-your-mouth brisket, amazing smoky ribs, and beautifully seasoned and juicy fried chicken. And the biscuits!! Get them with apple butter if you can. The beans also have this depth of flavor that can only be achieved by master barbecuers. Always go with at least one other person so that you can get a platter (full barnyard or proposition Joe). This is your chance to try a typical southern bbq in a cute little market in New West. My suggestion to you is to go during off-peak times. Otherwise, you will not only have to line up and wait for your food for a long long time, you may not even be able to find seating. The eating area is not very big. Re-Up has been around for at least 5 years now and although I wanted to try a new place in River Market, I knew I could count on these guys to have solid food. We ordered the BBQ call the Full Barnyard platter for my husband, daughter and myself. The platter was $36 before tax and consisted of 2 pieces fried chicken, 1/2 rack of ribs, 1/3 pound of beef brisket, beans, coleslaw and fries. It was a very decent price. Lots of pull pork. The one thing I liked about the pull pork is that it has a nice kick to it. Not too saucy or not drenched in BBQ sauce. The meat was moist inside. Overall, I have only good things to say about their pull pork and nothing negative. They are located inside River Market. Note that they might close early on weekdays. The staff do seem like they are trying provide service but may not be fully trained? I went with two other people and it took forever to get their order in as well cause the cashier was confused... I like the fried chicken here. The other meats (brisket and ribs) are ok, a bit hit and miss as the brisket can be a bit dry and tough sometimes. I don't know what they use for the the coating for the fried chicken but it is different from the other places. Same with the slaw. I think you can skip the biscuit though, nothing to write home about. I do like the southern iced tea. Refreshing and nice. For the fried chicken, they do not have breast meat. If you request for white meat, they will substitute with chicken tenders. They typically close at 7 pm though they closed at 5+ pm once on a Monday or Tuesday and so my friend could not order any food. We have had good experiences in the past with Re-up for large company lunches (50 to 80 people). Good food, good service. In late 2020 we had to cancel our Christmas lunch due to covid and we did so well in advance of the date. Kelly, the manager, said she would return the deposit. After that promise and despite many emails and phone calls, they completely ghosted. UPDATE- after seeing this review Re-up did contact me and promptly issued a refund. BBQ HEAVEN! Came in on a hot day for something to eat with my dad as he was visiting town and it was way to warm to actually cook in our house. Of course my father would find the the one place that has BBQ... There was no line up (even though we weren't pressed for time) so we decided to try it out. We were pleasently greeted and offered some advice on our order since we clearly had no idea what we wanted. We ended up order a beef brisket and a pulled pork sandwich with one side of potato salad and of course two sweet teas with lemon. It wasn't too expensive, under $30 for sure. We were given a beeper and told to wait until it rang. We found seats not to far away and took the teas with us while we waited. It took roughly 5-7 minutes until the beeper went off, let me tell you that thing was so strong it buzzed itself right off the table before we could catch it! They had it neatly organized and ready to go on a tray with napkins and utensils already to go. The pulled pork was cooked perfectly and the bun (judging by the size of the kitchen maybe wasn't made in house so maybe in a commissary) was made fresh. The beef brisket was just the right amount of spicy and the meat was falling apart in your mouth but still had some bite to it. I am probably the MOST picky person when it comes to potato salad.... so to my surprise it is now my new favourite! There was no chewy potatoes, it wasn't watered down and there was plenty of flavour. I will definitely be coming back and bringing all of our out of town visitors here all year round! We've had our fair share of fried chicken in search of what reminds of us home; and without a doubt this is the best spot around--when I'm even remotely close I make sure I take a detour over to the Quay to load up. More often than not I will call in an order to pick up because my order is always pretty large. I've now been to re-up more times than I can count and have perfected a carryout order for my family of two: bucket of chicken (10 pieces that comes with slaw and 4 delicious biscuits); 1-lb of brisket; and their "retail" rack of ribs, which take about 15 minutes to heat up/cook at home. We always order this large amount because we live in Vancouver and only get out to New West on occasion. And it takes us many days to get through our leftovers, but it's always worth the heavy load. One point of consideration is that their packaging for carryout leaves a lot to be desired. I always bring my own bags with handles to manage our large order. We travel by skytrain to get there so it can be cumbersome with the basic brown paper bag they provide. The staff are always super patient, friendly, and working hard. read more

Update: 2nd visit Jul 26 2019 Sometimes something is too good to be true-so we went to Re-Up again and we were proven right. Aside from testing 2 other main items (briskets and chicken), we retested their ribs and poutine with bacon, which turned out to be a lot less satisfying than our first visit (see details below). The Great Fried Chicken Hands down their fried chicken, though expensive at $7.50/2 small pieces with small coleslaw...... is the tastiest amongst other ones we tested like KFC, Popeye, Max (Filipinos), Vesta Grille (Korean), and other various Chinese fried chickens. The batter has a unique umami similar to anchovy or fish sauce that makes me go "ummmmm" upon taking the first bite. The meat inside is very hot, indicative that it is well cooked. Because the pieces are small, we are never without a bite of meat without the batter. Otherwise, I would have suggest a longer marinating time to get the flesh as tasty as the batter. comes with a delicious plum tangy dipping sauce (remember to ask for it), a coleslaw, $2.50 extra for biscuit (don't do it) Portion not enough has lunch, go for minimum 4-6 pieces. Expensive but worth it for an occasional treat. Highly Recommended Item The Ugly Beef Brisket We reserved the brisket 34 hrs ahead as required and arrived 1/2 hr early to wait for its did not expect an experience not short of meeting a hot chick in a nightclub under dark lighting, only to discover next day under daylight that it was all just mascara and lipstick We order the entire 1 lb of brisket which gave us many many pieces to test. The top small tiny pieces were perfectly juicy, tender and melt in our mouth. ‼BUT THE MAJORITY OF THR BIG PIECES UNDERNEATH were completely dried out, hidden under sauces.... I had plenty of beef brisket in my life time and this is the 1st time I almost choked trying to swallow the dried out meat. ‼After I complained to what appeared to be the owner/manager (Chinese), he quickly poured me a big container of sauce so I could do a French-dip style brisket by dunking every bite to let the sauce help with easing the dried meat down my throat. This time the portion was much smaller (maybe the boss is around) and the coleslaw for all the dishes we ordered was watery. Less time the coleslaw was crunchy and drained. Perhaps we got the bottom of the barrel. 2Bacon Poutine Redux ($2.50 extra do bacon)....... It was night and day compared to last time. The bacon became the standard supermarket thin ones, unlike the first time when it was thick bacon and cooked to just crisped before laying over the poutine. So the mouthfeel changed from deluxe BBQ to food court New York Fries type of run of the mill poutine. There was a lot less cheese than before. Overall the poutine experience had regressed by 40%. Recently the other top BBQ house in Greater Vancouver, Dixie BBQ has closed its door. We wonder if the sudden decrease of quality and serving size in Re-Up has anything to do with that. Given our disappointment with the the dried pull pork (see last review), the small poutine, the dried briskets, and the inconsistent ribs, we don't think we will be back any time soon except to do another update to see if they have picked up their act. For this I reduced one star. You can still get a good experience if you stick to the Ribs and Chicken. read more
