    Sausage flight

I've been wanting to try this place for years but never got around to it. A friend suggested here for dinner and off we went. It was fairly busy when we were here on a Saturday night. Good thing we had a reservation for our party of 6. There are two round tables which can fit 6 people. Otherwise it's waiting for tables to open up to form bigger tables. It did take a longer than usual (according to friends who have been here before) to get our food. Apparently the kitchen was busy with take out/delivery orders. The menu looked good with plenty of bbq items and even Korean fried chicken (KFC). Huh? I guess everyone loves KFC. I saw gumbo on the specials menu and just had to try that. It was a Turkey and sausage gumbo with rice. It was not what I had in mind when it arrived. It was thicker and darker looking than the usual gumbo. Despite the look, it was very tasty. I did wish it had more liquid. There was plenty of meat and I thought there were pulled pork and brisket besides the Turkey and sausage. I guessed it was so heavily seasoned I couldn't tell what meat I was eating. Not served with any sides. I also tried the brisket sandwich which came with either fries or salad. I requested for the moist/fatty meat so that it would not too dry. It was a generous serving of brisket with slaw and pickle in the sandwich. Some parts were chunks of fatty meat and others were lean and moist. I was it was melt in your mouth brisket. My friends like the Dino ribs which were really big ribs. They also like the pulled pork. Another friend had the 1/2 lb brisket and it was a bit dry. The server got the kitchen to re-do it and added sauce to the new plate. Kudos to the staff for wanting to make it better. I guess it's a good place for bbq food and prices are fair here. Free parking on the street. Just remember to make reservations if you have a big group. It's a nice place to dine in Steveston if you don't want seafood or prefer a meat place.

A friend suggested this place for dinner. Although the pricing was very good the food didn't meet up to my expectations of BBQ meat. The restaurant was 1/3 to 1/2 full and was somewhat busy. However, our food took a long time to arrive. We were a party of 6. I ordered the 1/2 lb beef brisket and it was very dry. The BBQ sauce that they drizzled on top was nothing special. I did bring it up to the server about the brisket being dry and she tried to make up for it by remaking it and adding more sauce but I am guessing it came from the same slab of brisket so it was still dry but better. B ordered the smoke sausage flight. The sausage was very tasty but again it was also nothing too wow. B also ordered a beer and the whisky flight. Yes this place serves a good selection of whisky and beer.

Was in Stevenston Village and this was the perfect place to sit down and enjoy a meal. Ordered the Cod Fish and Korean Fried Chicken tacos which both tasted great. Service was awesome. The guy at the bar is a rad guy who made some conversation with us and our server was attentive and speedy.

The sides were ok. The coleslaw is a bit bitter. I recommend the ribs and brisket. There are plenty of seats

Came in on a Sunday night with a deep craving for American-style bbq. We got the Dino (beef) ribs and a 1/2 order of the pork ribs, each coming with 2 sides. Pork ribs were flavourful and tender but the beef ribs I will say were quite dry and I personally found an overwhelming vinegar flavour on them- not my favourite. Sides were okay. We decided to risk it for the side of the day, which were hush puppies. They weren't my personal favourite as the cornmeal tasted a little stale to me, but my partner enjoyed this side. Corn bread was quite dry and crumbly which was only helped slightly by the side of butter. The yam fries are what you expect them to be, comes with a side of chipotle mayo and lastly the creamed corn was probably what saved the meal. We ordered a pina colada (not pictured) to hold us off while we waited for the food. Again, pretty mid. Flavourful but definitely too sweet. Service was nice and there were frequent check in's. cleansing wipes and several napkins are provided at the beginning of the meal to help with the mess.

I have been looking for a good place for smoked meats within Vancouver area since the summer. This spot was always featured in all my research so I decided to try it first since it s not far from where I live. The staff there were friendly and helpful. I ordred a 1/2 lb of beef brisket and I got it super fast : The slices of meat were thicker than I expected( usually I prefer thinner piece of brisket) , not much juicy and full of bbq sauce which I was expecting to be on the side. Overall I would say it was ok (6/10) but not what I was looking for , so I think I would be trying other places until one of them meets my requirements .

Mother's Day in Steveston could have been the typical eggs Benedict but we decided to check out Hog Shack for BBQ. Plus they had plenty of patio space so we had an instant table outside. Having lived in Texas with high expectations for southern style BBQ, we craved the brisket and Dino ribs. It did not disappoint. Flintstone-worthy beef ribs (one could have tilted the car) was massive. Beautiful crust, not fatty, very lean. Took 3 people to try to gnaw it down. 2.5 strips of brisket was a tad small considering the plate was touted as the Caveman. Nice cornbread muffin and crispy hand cut fries rounded out the meal shared with 3 people. It was the perfect amount. Oh and we had the catfish bites for an appetizer. Perfect weather and atmosphere for Mother's Day.

American Style BBQ in Canada done right. Everything ive ordered over the years from this place has been excellent. If you love poutine I recommend the Smothered Gems it's my favourite dish on the menu. 11/10

Drool worthy photo and review coming right at you! During the past weekend hog shack had their special dishes. Let's just say this week I had to go try it and I've never gotten into my car so quickly before. * Birria de res ($19.95) ~ oh my gosh these are game changer! If you ever see them post that they have it here for their special... RUN! Because it was so worth it! Comes with 3 loaded birria tacos and ultra delicious and rich consommé. The rice pairing was fantastic and also outstanding with the rich sauce base! I mean it was so flavourful you can definitely taste the flavours and spices used in the dish. The taco itself was loaded with meat and cheese! The rice was flavourful on its own but with the consommé it was chefs kiss! I've never craved such a dish so badly before. Please make this a regular menu item . * Bbq bacon cheese burger ($17.89), also added Caesar salad for side ($1.50) ~ the burger is making me speechless. It was huge! Now this is what I call a burger! Loads and loads of cheese and that meat was ultra tender and juicy. Nice cuts of bacon too! * Combo 5 ($25.95) ~ ribs and chicken lovers this is your dish! The chicken was ultra tender and juicy not to mention flavourful! The ribs, are on a whole new level. Smothered in the Smokey bbq sauce and the bones slide right off! * 10/10 ~ the birria taco was the fam favourite! It was so flavourful and delicious. Totally worth the mess! 100% recommend trying it here. * 8/10 ~ we had a ton of food, portions were great too! Leftovers from the combo 5! Total bill before tip: $67.68 * 10/10 ~ good social distanced, info gathered, hand sanitizer on tables, digital menus.

Big Johnson plate with yam fries and cornbread

I do have a soft spot for Southern BBQ every now and then, and while I can't speak to the place's authenticity, I can say what I had here really hit the spot! The catfish bites are deep fried in a cornmeal batter, which adds a nice texture to them, and my Apple Jack cocktail was both sweet and quite affordably compared to regular Vancouver prices. But the star was really the main mean. I split a Big Johnson plate with a friend, and it easily feeds two despite not being sold as a two-person meal. All the meats were delicious and slathered in richly flavoured BBQ sauces, from the giant ribs to the tender brisket and rich pulled pork. I got the cornbread side, which was delicious (maybe a tiny bit sweeter than I like) and paired extremely well with the meat, and the yam fries were pretty good as well! I'd love to come back and try another plate and more of the sides - the fact that you get two sides even with a regular main is great. This is one of those places where simple, unpretentious food is really given the chance to stand on its own and just be delicious. They give you little wetwipes that say "Don't be afraid to make a mess", and I think that encapsulates the fun about this kind of place and food - it's messy, tasty, basic, hearty food that leaves you full and satisfied.

    Brightly lit interior.

We waited approximately 25 minutes which is not bad at all considering how popular this small restaurant is. My mom is vegetarian and my girls had a wonton noodle soup lunch at another spot down the street. So we ordered a few things mainly for my dad, husband and myself: 1) Platter with barbecue pork and chicken (雙拼叉燒香油雞) 2) Half-order of roast duck (半隻脆皮燒鴨) 3) late of roast pork (燒肉) 4) Bowl of rice (一碗米飯) We cleared everything. The meats were juicy, tender, and flavorful. My girls are usually indifferent to Cantonese barbecued meats but they tried it and enjoyed everything as well. This is definitely a place to repeat if and when we revisit Vancouver.

They ran out of duck but do not fret because the soya chicken is where it's at. The soya chicken is incredibly tender, even the breast meat is tender. Secondly, it's perfectly marinated and if you dab a little of their homemade soy sauce, it's even better. Eat this with rice and you'll never want another meal in your life. This was easily our favorite dish for the place. Bbq pork and crispy pork are both spot on as well. They give generous and juicy cuts and the crispy pork is, well, crispy. The skin is a nice crunch and the meat is juicy, what more could you ask for? I still salivate and dream of the meat here and I wish we had something like this back in LA cause I don't know who else would make soy chicken as good as here. Cash only so come prepared! If you're a US tourist, they take USD as well but canadian is still the better deal.

Strolling up, there was a line. Good sign. The meats in the window were glistening and dripping delicious juices. Through the corner of the glass you could see the meat carver chopping each order and placing it in containers with their signature sauce. We waited a short time and were greeted at the counter. Almost every customer before us was Chinese and I'd watched the staff speak with them in both Mandarin and Cantonese, but both employees spoke to us in English (sincerely appreciated). We ordered a small amount of fatty and lean char siu and some roast duck, which he promptly selected from the window and chopped to order. The fatty was a bit much for me, but the lean char siu was absolutely delicious, and the duck had a nice crispy skin and juicy meat, all of which was delicious too. The sauce took up to the next level. IDK what it is about the soy served with bbq but it's either infused with the seasonings of the meat or the two combine in your mouth to make magic. Parker Place is a solid stop for this type of cuisine and a good starting point for exploring it in Richmond. I look forward to comparing them all over future visits.

We intended on getting the à la carte menu at first but realized that based on how many big eaters we had, it was more bang for our buck with the all you can eat menu. We chose the lowest tier of all you can eat and there were some people who preferred seafood; even if you upgraded to the highest tier the selection in our opinion, didn't get drastically better that it was "worth it". We had a party of six and was seated at a long table with a divider. When we got to our seat, the staff had placed the divider at exactly the table edges connecting the two stove but it was so squishy and uncomfortable for 6 people that we had to move the divider over a little. There's a time limit for all you can eat however with one stove and us not knowing that the vegetables came raw and in full foiled packages, it took a long time to grill anything. Our waitress came over many many times to remind us about the time limit and even then... we were well over our time limit even though we only put in two rounds of food. One stove shared between six people was awful. It's not like our stove could cook any faster even if the waitress rushed us. We were even ending the meal with s'mores and the waitress couldn't wait any longer and brought over the bill. We had to put down our s'mores stick to pay the bill so she could leave us alone to finish the meal... the restaurant was not busy, there were plenty of empty tables and there was no one waiting in the lobby. Did not appreciate the service here. Overall, food was greasy and not memorable (as I just tried a different grilled meat spot a few days prior). The portions were weird. Most of the dishes were severely under portioned so we made sure to up our portions for round two. Our time was up before we could even put in our final round three order. The staff also didn't respect some of the items. We put in ice cream on the first order as people wanted to use it as a grease palate cleanser and it was only when we followed up with the waitress did they say "oh we thought it should be served at the end of the meal instead since it's a dessert". Perhaps following the orders of what customers mark off would help with better customer service....
