The biggest garbage fire company I've ever dealt with. Yes they offer steep discounts but buyer beware of the awful customer service you'll receive. I bought a gas powered chainsaw and went through the not so simple task of putting it together, buying special gas containers, and filling the containers with special gas. We started the thing up and it doesn't work! As in it's a lemon. As in I NEVER was able to use it. I have approached Menards both in person and in an email to their customer service and their only solution for me is to have it repaired! What joke. No where except apparently in very fine print on my original receipt was I informed that I would not be able to return a gas powered item. This policy and how they communicate it to their customers is false advertising and a scam. If it had been made transparent this knowledge, I would never have taken the risk of making such a big purchase that if anything went wrong with it I was SOL. read more

Had been using this Menards for years. Went to get two floor lamps for my home. One was in stock and the other was the floor model. I asked an empoyee if the floor model was given at a discount and he said no so I asked to speak with a supervisor. Anytime I've ever inquired about a floor model be it computers or tv's at Best Buy or printers at Office Max the staff is always coridal and says "of couirse we give discounts on our floor models." Not Menards! This is where it gets interesting. The supervisor, a smug, curt and a "I don't give a shi*" jerk named John responded to my curious inquiry as to why the floor model didn't come with a discount be it $10 or whatever with short, one or two word answers like "Yep" "too bad" or "our policy". He completely violated every customer service guideline that the basic employee should be using and yet here he is as a supervisor. I asked "so I'm supposed to walk out the door with this lamp that may be broken, may have been a return or may have been tampered with by other customers " and good ol' John with complete apathy and disinterest just snidely replied with angry, vacant eyes 'Yep"! I said "Fine...I'll never do business with Menards ever again" and John true to form said "Fine". I left. got my lamps at Home Depot and will never step foot into another Menards. read more

Save big money at Menard's is that the song says when I we hear it on TV, radio and in their store while you shop for things. We arrived on a day last week, Wednesday for their 15% on everything if you can fit it into the brown paper bag. I was like cool, too bad we can't like a toaster oven in there sigh. O Well, we got ourselves some house supplies that we needed. This Menards has everything you need for house improvement items and if you like to shop for snack and goodies this place has all of that too. I tend to go for their " Jacks" frozen pizza for like $2.99 each. I like junky food what can I say? I prefer Menards over Home Depot, it's more entertainment for me to shop here than at Home Depot and Lowe's. They have things I can look for the kid's like outdoor play and indoor gardening supplies. Who knew you could get mouth wash, milk, and lumber at the same place? But you can...if you go to Menards!!! My hubby and I were on a mission for some particular garden edging that we could not find anywhere else...Ace, Lowe's, etc. But we found it online at Menards. Get this...we ordered it online, they pulled it for us (32 pieces of 3ft edging), and we picked it up. Also, saved $32.00 in shipping! Pretty cool. Of course, like a supermarket, you always come out with more than we went for. We also picked up some floor molding and nails, filter, mouthwash (I wasn't joking) and our edging. This Menards is HUGE. I don't know if they are all like that. You seriously could lose your spouse if you wanted to. I don't think it was clearly organized or well marked. We spent the first 20 minutes wandering around hoping to find one of the departments we were looking for. No luck. Eventually had to ask. It is not necessarily easy to get into the parking lot if you are coming from the east. Doable, but takes some weird turns. Plenty of parking. The people were very friendly and helpful. Trust me. I bought a lawnmower from the mernards in morton grove. After the first week it stopped working. I brought it back to where I purchased it. They told me since I put gas in the lawnmower my. Warranty is no longer with mernards. They told me I have to go to the manufacturer. They handed me a out of date list of places that should help me. Poulan is the brand and no one on the list could help or were out of business. When I tried to get mernards to help me they said it is not their problem. I feel like people have a love/hate relationship with Mendards. Generally, I like Menards. Sure, it's weird that you can buy shampoo, jeans and dog food at the same place you can buy a table saw, paint your house, and shop for a new shower. But, compared to the other big box stores, the prices are usually better. When I found the exact same shower doors Sutdio41 carried at nearly half the price, I bought two from this store off the website for same day delivery. Morton Grove isn't terribly close to my house, but since they were delivering them, I didn't really care. Everything up to this point was great. The store called me shortly after my order, to let me know that they only had one door in stock and weren't sure when more would be available. They were unable to have another store fulfill my order, so I asked them to cancel the second door and ordered door #2 from the Clybourn. I was speechless when they told me that I would have to come in - to that specific store - for a refund. For my ONLINE ORDER! If I wanted to drive out to Morton Grove, I would've gone to the store in person to begin with. Still in disbelief, I called the store's main line and they told me to submit an online inquiry and I *might* not have to come into the store. I got a call back from the same store and they said they'd try to refund me for the out of stock door and would call if there was a problem. I did get my refund; I did not get - a copy of the refund receipt, a call confirming anything, etc. I didn't know I saved myself a trip until the credit showed up on my card's activity. The door, itself, arrived quickly. It actually beat the door from the Clybourn store to my house even though it's much closer. I'm not sure if this is standard, but my door was delivered by a messenger and not the store. The problem with this was that the scrawny messenger guy was unable to bring it in the house himself. Thankfully, manfriend was there to help him. Had I been home by myself; I would've been screwed. This Menards is typically my favorite store. But today I went in to buy the Duck brand self stick window insulation kit. There was only one box left. And there was only 1 roll in the package. It typically comes with 3 rolls. The regular price is $7.89. Said it was on sale for $6.99. Went and talked to manager Nikki. She said $6.99 was lowest price she would do. Even though it was missing 2 out of the 3 rolls in the package. And Nikki was really rude about it! Almost full price even though missing most of the product? Wow! HOME DEPOT vs MENARDS In May, we purchased a 5 burner BBQ from Home Depot and pre-paid their recommended vendor to do the assembly at our home. The fee was $100. We called 3 times after the grill was delivered and the vendor kept telling me they would call back. Finally, I called Home Depot and explained the situation. The manager made arrangements to pick up the grill and take it to the Home Depot in Niles, where they assembled the grill and delivered it back to us. Then they refunded the $100.00 fee back to us. In May, we purchased a garage door from Menards and called their recommended garage door vendor, Leader Garage Builders, to make arrangements to do the installation. Leader installed the door but needed to come back with a different boot to complete the seal because there was a large gap when the door was closed. I paid Leader in full because they were Menards recommended vendor, and had no reason to be concerned that the job would be completed. Unfortunately, Leader kept putting us off for weeks and then stopped returning our calls. We called Menards and talked with the store manager, Chris, and explained what happened and asked him to please call Leader and have them complete the installation. Chris was very nice when he told us that it was NOT Menards responsibility to get involved. We called Astro Garage Builders and had them finish the installation and paid them $195. If you plan to make a large purchase for installation for your home please keep in mind our experience with Home Depot and Menar. There is a: Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace, and Menards. Each is 2 miles away (N, S, E, W). You have to gamble that the first hardware store you run to has the oddball thing you need to complete the job. I hate this Menard's also and after a shitty experience will never EVER shop at Menard's. I'll try to keep this short. I was there with my Dad, purchasing tools and paint. Spent about $500. That year, I was in this store very often. Always spending at least $3-500. On this occasion their security decided to stop me on my way out. Citing that they were watching me and saw me put a tool or something in my pocket. I will always remember this day. A colored person never forgets days like this. When you have been racially profiled. I remember from the moment I walked in the store, I was being followed and for no good reason. Two lost prevention guys following me from aisle to aisle. Just knowing these idiots would try something I stuck next to my Dad like flypaper. We stopped in the screws and nails, aisle to look for a particular screw needed for a cabinet door. Depending on the size needed, they offered individual specialty screws in their own little baggies. They didn't have the size I needed. At no time did I pick up any screws. So we buy all of our merchandise and walk out. At the doorway I am stopped by 4 loss prevention guys and two others that were following me the entire time. Without any mention to my father they whisk me into a secured room. Putting me in handcuffs, right in my fathers view. (Parents, just know that no person at a store is allowed to check you or your child without you or another person present. You can & should opt that a Police officer is called) I wish I knew this. Two guys put me face against a wall and said they were going to pat me down. It was winter and I was wearing a bulky winter jacket. Both of them stuck their hands in my pockets quickly, while doing a half ass pat down. They told me they would pat me down, NOT put their hands in my pockets. This gave them opportunity. One guy leaves the room. At this point, there is only one loss prevention officer in the room checking my person and jacket. !! A single baggy of two screws, price $.15 cents in my pocket! This guy calls me a thief and says they have to keep me in custody till a manger can come and work out the paperwork or decide on calling the Police. ARE THEY FUCKING KIDDING!! 15 cent screws!! We just spent $500 dollars on merchandise and you want to say I was stealing! SO this asshole gives me the whole talk about why stealing is wrong.. etc etc. Outside these fucks are keeping my Dad in the dark about what's going on. This guy opens the door to allow people leaving the store to see me in handcuffs seated. As a born American, when this kind of bullshit happens to you at a store which you frequent, close to home, it strikes a fucking nerve. The lost prevention guys say that they don't know where the manager is. SO, they want to parade me through the store with handcuffs on and with an entourage of 5 security guys. My Dad in tow, yelling, asking these clowns why they would do this shit! To get out of the store, they said I had to sign some paper stating that I stole from Menard's company and I had to pay them a fine!! Most of the loss prevention guys were White American, one guy was interracial, maybe White / Back. So this shit shouldn't of happened. I'm realizing I live in a cool part of Chicago because I'm so close to so many suburbs and, therefore, proximity to many stores that don't exist within the city limits. Menards is like the middle class man's Home Depot. It's been around forever as a good old hardware store -it has a good selection like its competitors, but there is something more down to earth about it. This was a very nice location. I found everything I was looking for. The staff was friendly and the parking lot is huge. Glad I found it -I had to mapquest it but it's really not too far from Rogers Park. Came here at 7:45am on a sick day because my smoke/CO detector decided to finally crap out and let me know it was time to replace it. As long as I was here, I also picked up some wet cat food and garbage bags. Yes, they sell cat food (and cheaper than walmart!). This store has everything. They have a lot to look at, good sales - a lot of yummy snacks, and I love their big seasonal and outdoor garden section. I can't believe the complete incompetence I encountered while doing a simple online order pickup of two items. Nobody contacted me about one item being sold out despite my phone order from earlier in the day. Menards needs to hire better quality experienced workers who are knowledgeable in the departments they are working in. The handyman and the plumbers that work on my elderly mother's house are way more knowledgeable than the dumb dumb lazy hourly cart pushers that work at Menards. I asked a teenage worker where I can find a lubricant spray for my lawn mower which I showed from my iPhone at their official website. The kid sends me to the paint department. When I went there no one was at the customer service desk after awhile. I looked around and found another worker where I can find a lubricant spray. He told me to go to automotive aisle but was vague where it was located. I found another worker in a computer station where it was located. He pointed me where the automotive department was located but he seemed too lazy to escort me over there. Opposite wise, when I went to Home Depot to look for a 48" long fluorescent light fixture, I went to the customer desk and showed the particular model from my iPhone to their official website. The front desk young lady paged the elderly lady worker who was knowledgeable about light bulbs and directed me to the particular bulb I should be looking for. She also told me to inspect the connector pins to make sure it is not bent because she said sometimes they can be bent during shipping. That is real customer service from Home Depot. Also, Home Depot has self checkout station like in Jewel-Osco and WalMart stores. You don't have to deal with the B.S. of the customer in front of you who has a lot of stuff. At a Harbor Freight store, I was figuring out how to use the gas sprout nozzle for a gas can. A teenage store clerk came up to me and taught me how to use the gas sprout nozzle. I didn't ask for his help but he saw me figuring how to use it. The elderly lady worker at Home Depot and the teenage store clerk at Harbar Freight are the type of workers Menards should be hiring not some useless flunkies. read more

With the exception of the ladies in the "Returns" area, and a couple of cashiers, everyone else can be replaced by robots for all I care. Especially the surly older gentlemen in the plumbing section. They are angry, curt, irritable, and worthless. Your best bet is to identify the exact products you plan to purchase on the website before making the trek to Morton Grove. When you arrive, walk into the store, get your items, pay, and go home. Don't talk to anyone. It's important not to talk to anyone if you wish to not have an unpleasant experience. UPDATED Review: 2/19/19 at 10:08pm I honestly love this place but my review has gone down to 2 stars because of one wicked women I just had to deal with. If the manager is reading this, I didn't get her name but she was at the entrance side. Older women with frizzy brown hair, thin. I checked out and was holding a heavy piece of equipment. The store was closed by the time I checked out and I told the women at the register that I was parked on the entrance side. She said it was no problem that someone would let me out so I made my way back to the entrance where my car is parked. This rude older women (described above) starts barking at me to go around and how I can't be there EVEN though I'm holding this heavy equipment. I explain to her my situation and she refuses to open the door. Leaving me standing there holding this HEAVY circular saw! I told her that I wouldn't be going around and she says she will open the door but she needs to check my receipt. Fine I say. She proceeds to then checking my receipt and EVEN the BAR CODE to make sure I didn't steal the item. It was SO RUDE and humiliating to have this women harassing me all the while I am still holding this HEAVY ITEM. Her entire tone was very judgmental and rude. She then proceeds to telling me "in the future you have to go around and who was it that told you to come here, is it this women on the receipt?" I was so frustrated I told her to open the door. Finally she opens it. Which by the way was SO SIMPLE for her to do. All she did was unlock the side door. So I wasted 7-8 extra minutes of this women harassing me checking each item as if I was some criminal before letting me out. This women has me so annoyed at her unprofessionalism that I'm not sure if I will be coming here anymore. I usually never leave bad reviews at hardware stores. It's freezing cold weather so I went to drive my car up so I could easily load the wood. I was greeted by someone and they helped me out my wood in the car! One of the best big box home improvement stores! they have everything one would need and have more selection than HD. The store is spacious, clean and organized just like their other locations I've been to. Lots of room to shop around and nobody is bumping into my cart thanks to the wide isles. I've been helped when I needed help. Every now and then they have 11% rebate on everything. Who else does this? The refund/exchange policy is as generous as anywhere else. I'm glad the store does NOT allow pets inside. Your dogs can be friendly and they probably are but nobody wants to pick up bottom-shelf merchandise that with dog's urine on it.
