Yesterday great experience purchased a small upright freezer (thanks Noah) and many other products. No difficulty in having help finding said items. Best part was a young employee saw me struggling to get said freezer into car but was no problem. His name alludes me but within seconds I was good to go! The only problem was is that he refused a $5 tip, over and over attempts to force him to accept failed. Please Menard's change that policy! read more

Save big money at Menards! Why did nobody tell me about this Menards that has two floors and you take a walkway escalator up to the second floor (or elevator)? How fun is that? Normally I enjoy going to Menards but this was on a new level (!!). I especially enjoyed the trip to the second floor because just below they have a garden pathway of statuary like Versailles and you can get a sense of the scale of this store. Luckily, a helpful employee directed me to the zip ties. I picked up a standing tower fan, some drain cleaner and just marveled at the pet supplies (an aisle for food, an aisle for treats, an aisle for toys), snacks, candy, more. If I fill out the rebate I should have about $20 coming back to me. Of course I'll be back. Please have someone playing the piano for me. read more

This is one of Menards superstores similar to the one in Melrose Park. I stopped in at this store & was amazed. This store is huge. This store has 2 levels like the Melrose Park store w/moving ramps that lock the carts in place well you're changing between floors. They have a huge array of items from plumbing to hardware, electrical items, clean in supplies, garden products, lumber, food items..... Huge store! I recommend going to Menard's website, search for this location, and then search for your item(s) that you need. This will save you time from wandering the store. Checkout took a little bit,but I felt that was from other customers not being prepared vs the cashier. read more

The guy that was checking me out, had a personality of a slug and was slow as molasses because they're hiring anybody nowadays unbelievable you should have a self checkout line. It would be better than having a guy that has a personality of a slug. read more

Who doesn't like Menards? I have gone several times to buy multiple items for personal use or business and have always had great service from the staff and reasonable prices. The selection of items in the stpre is great, plus you can get replacement propane containers for your outdoor grill. I especially like getting the 11% rebate on everything I purchase. Bought a gas Troy built weed eater Saturday 8/10/24.Decided it wasn't what I thought given I couldn't get it started. Tried returning it Tuesday 8/13/24. Couldn't because I put fuel in it. Manager Vinnie useless! Told me I'd have to take it to service shop...I wanted to know why. So they can try to get it started. So if they get it started after putting gas in it, I'd have to keep it? Yep! That's how we handle small engines. Repeatedly asked what kind of sense did that make? No explanation that made any sense. Buy it, can't try it, because you can't put gas in it. I highly recommend that two of your employee's at the Vernon Hills location a cashier named Hope and a young man with glasses who puts carts inside be investigated because we will not be tolerating their behavior... They made a scene on 01/17/2025 at 8:33 PM by questioning and accusing my husband and I "the customers" of keeping an extra damaged hard outdoor faucet cover worth $4.58! The Menards employee with glasses took the damaged product upstairs and used it as a reference but left it behind and replaced the (2) covers that we had purchased! However, he pretended like we took it by following us as we were leaving, asked us "what did you guys do with the damaged/other faucet cover?" My husband the "customer" told the "employee" that he is the one that had the product last! They kept insisting so we showed your employees our bags that proved we only had the 2 hard outdoor faucet covers that we had paid for! read more

A recent special order situation compels me to alert the public to Menard's questionable policies. I special ordered items, failed to pick them up and lost track of this until doing books for tax time. I contacted my Menard's store and was notified the items were put in stock and sold. Menard's did not notify me in any way or refund my money. I did not contact the store until a year after the purchase, at which time i was notified I could only receive store credit because my "return" was more than 90 days after the purchase. Return? I did not receive the items to return them. I reached out to corporate immediately and weeks later am still trying to get a store credit. This is quite a sketchy practice I never encountered before and will avoid Menard's as much as possible in the future. read more

Do NOT buy Jeld Wen doors or windows from the Vernon Hills Menards. I was foolish enough to do so. They took my thousands of dollars up front and I had to wait months for a patio door that never arrived. When I called Menards to find out what was going on I was told there was an "issue" with my door and Jeld Wen gave a new delivery date even more months into the future. Why wasn't I notified and what was the mystery issue? Neither Menards nor Jeld Wen answered my questions. When the patio door finally arrived it was damaged. I asked them to please turn this into a customer service success story. I may as well have directed my plea to a brick wall. I contacted the General Manager on how they can do better. The GM, Austin Mar, couldn't even spell his own name correctly in replying to me that he wasn't going to do anything to help. I was impress when I walked in to this Menards, I usually don't go here, my usual go to place is Lowes! But I felt like a very special customer today! When I walked in, there was an employee greeting you and tell you that the cart has been sanitized! All the aisles are marked with arrows and they have tons of signs for social distancing, so I felt very safe here and everyone was very polite! Just to add to previous reviewer I had problem at this store returning wrong item which was sent to me on special order. Kathleen who was handling my return wanted me to pay restocking fee on the item which was sent to me instead of the item I ordered. Isn't it ridiculous? Not only she didn't want to apologize on behalf of Menards for sending wrong item, but she also wanted to charge me restocking fee for returning wrong item . I went to different Menards store and not only they immediately accepted return without charging me restocking fee but also were discussing how to prevent this specific situation from happening to other customers. Will never go to Vernon Hills location again. read more

When they first moved their location in the area right next to Lowes & Home Depot I was thinking it seemed odd and I saw them as a lesser version of the neighbors. But once you walk in this behemoth of a store I realized their new location was not only new and shiny but considerably larger and expansive. They have way more than you ever could imagine. Appliances, fixtures, home and garden, tools, groceries etc etc. yes even groceries. I've never found it to be overly crowded and it's been fairly easy to find a staff member to help when needed. And yes the pricing does seem better than the competitors. So come on in and SAVE BIG MONEY AT MENARDS. read more

I had a washer and dryer delivered. Once the delivery arrived they stated they had to drop it off in the driveway. Otherwise, we had to pay $50 cash to bring it into the house. I called Menards asking about the delivery and why I was charged $113 for delivery but they wouldn't actually deliver it in the house. They didn't have a good answer other than it was delivered by a 3rd party. They took no responsibility for the delivery issues. I talked to two different managers. The kicker was that they did bring the washer into the house with no extra fee. Also they do not hook up the washer and dryer. If you need appliances go to ABT. Horrible. Employees do not care or have any sense of customer service. Have never seen a smile on any employee ever in this store. I have out it up with it but now I'm done. Not going back. I have often ordered special order items. Going to the order desk for pickup is typically a miserable experience. Security guards treat every customer as a criminal. Then you have to wait at a desk for someone to look up and pull your order and give it to you and then the horrible security guards assume you have stolen something. My breaking point today is when I arrived and no one was at the pickup desk. Daniel was the person that was supposed to be there. I rang the bell more than once. No reply. I then called the phone number for pickup and Daniel answered. He said he would be right down. Never showed up. 20 minutes later I left the back went to see the manager on duty Julia who hardly apologized. She refunded my order and I left with no product. Avoid this store. Goodbye, Menard's -- A Cautionary Tale on Return Credit "Certificates." It finally happened --the nightmare scenario of every ADHD-diagnosed trucking lawyer, cum hack carpenter-- I lost a $130.00 store credit "certificate" in this enormous (and frankly amazing) store before I even left its 4 walls after the return. I have exclusively and enthusiastically shopped at various Menard's for years, and loved the offerings (check out the veneer core ply and pre-finish butcher birch/red oak butcher blocks/hard wood S4S 2x4's) so much that I was willing to overlook some of the more Orwellian reports about its practices with zero guilt. I knew the score; I knew exactly why this in-efficient and diobolical, anti-consumer practice exists. I have been so paranoid about losing these things in the past that I would literally use the clip on my fold out utility knife to secure it inside the bill of my trusty green Menard's cap (I will miss you, old friend.) I just can't do it anymore. I can tune out information or ignore articles about alleged labor issues or employee programming, but I just can't support this place after witnessing the agony and dread that washed over an otherwise great employee's face as he confirmed, at my request, what I already knew: "you are just going to have to re-trace your steps." I can only imagine the horror he and the delightful clerk -- who had just helped me ring up and stack $386.54 of butcher block, bench legs, construction timbers, MDF, and shelving -- felt as they watched my desperate and manic attempt to search 4 zipper pockets and every pocket in my jeans over and over while pleading with myself to find the certificate. My otherwise joyous 2-hour excursion through this massive store in my hometown (I am re-doing my old man's basement shop with him...sky is the limit ...) came to a decision: I could have: 1) easily paid for the goods sans the $130.00 credit and moved on with my life; 2) taken my only Menard's sanctioned option and embarked on an agonizing 2-hour fools errand through the store; or 3) I could apologize profusely to the clerk and poor re-stock guy and just walk out. I chose option 3. It sucks, but I am better for it. Your employees deserve better than to serve as henchman to carry out this kind of chincy, bait and switch nonsense. Your store is good enough as is- you don't need to nickle and dime hard working customers or claim (without any logical connection) that you don't use cards because of "return fraud" as I was told when I casually asked the return clerk why they can't simply use cards like everyone else. Not everyone is a shade ball and your returns folks already have to deal with the legit scams on the front lines --don't make them gas light people like me. I was returning pristine, 2 week-old unused or unopened stuff: 2 Masterforce sawhorses, a large plastic container, and two fencing rolls. Oh well, I will truly miss my escapes to this place and know have to find another place to grab the rest of the great materials seemingly only offered by Menard's (the tools to properly laminate a block like the ones I am buying by themselves cost more than these bad boys.) I hope my $130.00 is worth it. For numerous obvious reasons your employees could have verified the return in seconds and probably still can from the context here alone. My only hope is that the poor manager or re-stock crew finds it and can use it --I know damn well that no part of your claw-ed back profits are going to reach the pockets of the people who actually have to pad the bottom line/face your customers. I recently purchased a hot water heater from Menards Vernon Hills requesting one of the recommended pros for installation. After setting an appointment the pro cancelled 2x . This required undue stress and expensive last minute installation elsewhere. Neither manager nor customer care offered any assistance. I would suggest finding your own pro. read more

I had the misfortune of returning a an unused product with the original receipt within a few weeks of purchase yesterday at the Vernon Hills Menards. The return desk worker, Janice, was rude and short with me. She was in a great hurry to just process the return and get me out of there even tho there were no other customers in sight. She insisted since I had used a merchandise credit for a small amount on that large $ receipt she would apply that to the item I was returning and only give me a merchandise credit in return. I had used a small rebate check for the large $ amount receipt that had many items purchased. The receipt did not show the rebate check had been applied only to the purchase being returned. She was extremely rude and and insisted the "system" would only let her do that. I asked to see the store manager. A cashier named Janet came over and said she was the manager. She also continued with the fact I must get a merchandise credit in return. She again was short with me and waved to a sign posted by the returns desk saying the sign said she must give me a merchandise credit. I read the sign and couldn't find it. She had taken of by then so a 3D worker was nice enough to come over and help me find the words on the sign Janet said they were there. The 3D worker couldn't find it either, so Janet came back over. The wordS on the sign were never found. I insisted and finally Janet reluctantly found a way (that they said didn't exist) so they could put the amount back on my MasterCard and not give me a merchandise credit. Janice and Janet were rude and too lazy to process the return w/o the merchandise credit. Janet was the worst, pretty much telling me to step aside when we weren't done. She just refused to help or even be civil to me. Watch out! If you ever need to return something at Menard's be prepared for surly, rude workers. read more

I was very excited to go into the store to buy some paint for my 15 year old daughter for her room. A worker then came up to me and said how old is your daughter, I replied with 15 and he said that "16 and up are only allowed in the store so she can wait in your car" he also asked if she had an ID. I don't recall ever going into a store and having my daughter carry an ID. sorry but I'm not going to leave my child unattended it's also illegal to leave your kid in a car especially with how hot it was that day no way. read more

Menards stole $200 from my family. We purchased an item off of their website. It did not work out for our project. The first time I tried to return the item, they would not accept because I did not have my wife's credit card which was used to make the purchase. The second time we returned together and we were charged a $200 restocking fee because they said it was a "special order." At no time when purchasing online OR on our emails receipt did it was this item was special order or subject to a restocking fee. We were told that information was in another email that we somehow did not receive. We even purchased another replacement item the day before and they still charged the restocking fee. Absolutely crazy! Will never shop at Menards again. There are plenty of other stores in town- Home Depot, Lowes, Ace... Menards needs to make a BIG CHANGE in their customer service and policies! Well I think this store needs a lot of help in terms of service, specifically the younger staff, I appreciate it that two specific mature women helped me this afternoon. Barb helped me in the garden center, Barbara. She was very informed and very enthusiastic about a new floor plant that I was picking out and unsure of how to tend to. Then, at the register, greeted by Mary in the red sweater. Mary is also a mature woman. I really appreciate that it's not all young people working at the store because the younger people were not quite as attentive in service. The person who answered the phone was not clear, not interested, and not helpful. Two of the managers or supervisors that came to help us at the register were incomplete and inconsiderate, somewhat rude or dismissive to Mary. Finally a more senior manager, in terms of rank, if you will, completed the transaction. I definitely think this store, compared to mine in Kenosha, needs a lot of customer service help; but kudos to hiring people like me of the future who still need to work. read more
