Mendocino Farms has easily become a "when in doubt, go to" type of place for me. The prices are a bit high compared to serving size but man the quality is worth it. I have not been disappointed by a sandwich yet. The chimichurri steak and bacon is my favorite but I've had quite a few and think they are great. Was so happy see that Mendocino Farms made it to the ATX. It's conveniently located on 38th with plenty of parking. It appeared that they had both indoor and outdoor seating. When you walk in, grab a menu or view the menu on the wall. Once decided, order at the counter with the friendly staff, grab your number and take a seat. They'll bring your food out to you, but don't forget to put your dishes back when you are done. Portions are huge and they have great drinks. I had the lemonade and the avocado and quinoa salad. So satisfying when looking for a big salad. In addition to salads, they have sandwiches and soup, which looked great ask well. I'll be back to try the rest. read more

I arrived at 12:45 on a Friday. We planned a later lunch to avoid a crowd. My first time there and I walked into a packed dining room and a line of 10-12 people to order at the counter. But by the time my friend arrived about 1:10 the line had disappeared and the crowd was quickly thinning out. I had the farmhouse club and my friend went with a salad (I forget which one). My sandwich was absolutely delicious and I cleaned it up. His salad was enormous and he couldn't finish it. He had enough leftover to take home for another meal. Neither came with a side but they are available for purchase. The restaurant is bright and cheerful inside with plenty of seating. And the staff are very friendly and eager to assist throughout the meal. The only downside is their prices being a little high for the type of setting so one star off. I will probably return anyway for the delicious sandwich. But I wish it came with chips! read more

I've had a few meals at this location, and I'm really hoping this place sticks around. The space has been through several different restaurants over the years, including Oakmont Cafe and Doc's. I've been for both lunch and dinner, and lunch is clearly the peak time, which makes sense given the sandwich, salad, and soup menu. It feels built for the midday lunch crowd. The kitchen runs very efficiently, the line moves quickly, and online ordering is very easy. It's counter service, but I've taken meals to go a few times and everything traveled well. As of February 2026, it still has that brand new restaurant feel. The interior is bright, clean, and modern, and there's a ton of outdoor seating. However, you are just off 38th Street and across from the Seton medical complex, so al fresco dining may not be the quietest experience depending on traffic and time of day. Known for its fresh, healthy ingredients and innovative takes on classic dishes, Mendocino Farms continues to impress with its assorted menu of salads, sandwiches, and soups. At the William Cannon location, I was introduced to the Avocado and Quinoa salad. Calling it "excellent" is a massive understatement. To switch things up at 38th Street, I tried the Golden State Cobb - a hearty mix of applewood smoked bacon, avocado, hard-boiled egg, blue cheese, Lolli Bombs yellow tomatoes, pickled red onions, chives, balsamic glaze, romaine, kale, mixed greens, and a rustic red wine vinaigrette. I enjoyed the combination of textures and flavors. While taking in the view through the restaurant's large windows, I sampled a drink combo: half guava lemonade and half "Get Your Greens." The blend was refreshing and perfectly balanced. In addition, I grabbed another Avocado and Quinoa salad to go - still just as satisfying the second time around. The interior is bright and cheerful, with soft baby blue tones throughout. Outside, the signature blue-and-white cow greets guests alongside a playful balloon display. A standout moment was when Alex, the general manager, stopped by to introduce herself - a thoughtful gesture that reflects the brand's "Happy" principle. The staff radiated warmth and positivity, making the experience feel genuinely welcoming. Some of my favorite places are near 38th street, so I am looking forward to returning. read more

I met a longtime friend for brunch here a weekend or so ago. We were headed to another place nearby that was closed and I spotted this place and it looked open! I had been to this location before when it was different restaurants over the years. The ordering and delivery process were a bit confusing since it was our first time but will be easier the next time. You have to order at the front and then put your ticket number after scanning a QR code so they know where to deliver your food. Also, the napkins were under the food so we had to ask where napkins and silverware were as it wasn't quickly apparent. The food was really good. I enjoyed my wrap so much that I ate all of it and I usually take 1/2 of what I order home! My friend liked his food but the salad had some type of nut that was too crunchy and hurt his teeth. They were nice enough to substitute it for another salad which he did like. He ordered one of their fresh juice drinks if I recall correctly. I had a Spindthrift (sp?) fruit sparkling drink. Definitely a healthy option in a central location with easy parking! I look forward to trying a few other things next time I'm there. read more

This is a great new spot in Central Austin. It's casual but the menu items are relatively healthy. I ordered the "Happy Hippie" and really enjoyed it. It was a very colorful and tasty sandwich. I also ordered the pesto pasta side dish which I took home and didn't try yet. The staff was very friendly and greeted me warmly when I walked in. They were eager to make menu recommendations. Parking is relatively easy. There is a lot in the back of the building. Seating is ample both inside and outside. I'm glad this spot opened up recently. I stopped by both for their sneak peek and their grand opening. The service was top-notch, everyone was so attentive and welcoming. They made sure every guest was greeted, understood the menu, and was happy with their meal. During the sneak peek, I tried the Avocado & Quinoa Superfood Ensalada with chicken. Wow, really delicious! The crispy quinoa gives the right amount of crunch. Honestly, it didn't even need dressing (though I did dip my fork in time to time). For the grand opening, I went with Chen's Crispy Rice Salad, and it was really good too and very crunchy. You might need a bit of dressing for this one, but you can still have it on the side to make it healthier. The weather was perfect, so I sat outside. It might be too hot to do that in the summer, but that's a problem for next year! I'm very impressed. I'll definitely be back! read more

This is a cute chain from California with a farmhouse aesthetic and a good selection of upscale sandwiches and salads. I really love their fresh ingredients and attention to detail that brings some options I wouldn't normally see but add a lot of flavor and interest. Everybody is friendly and eager to discuss the menu choices with you, or you can always order through their online portal. I've tried the Chicken Parm Dip which was very tasty but uses sliced chicken with crispy crumbles as a topping instead of actual chicken parmesan filet. Instead I'd recommend the Chimichuri Steak & Bacon sandwich that's spectacular. The marinated peppers and tender steak and caramelized onion jam are great, and even the toasted sesame roll stands out. Of course they have salads and soups and wraps so there are plenty of choices. And for drinks they have lemonades on tap that have ingredients like pomegranate mint or guava which are nice. There's even passion fruit black tea! It's also worth noting they have their own parking lot, so that was a relief and there was plenty of space even on opening day. read more

It is a restaurant that specializes in creative sandwiches, salads and more with fresh ingredients and fearless flavor combinations. This location has a fun mural inside and very colorful and fun decor. I prefer the salads at this establishment so this time I ordered the Golden State Cobb with applewood smoked bacon, avocado, hard-boiled egg, blue cheese, Lolli Bombs yellow tomatoes, pickled red onions, chives, balsamic glaze, romaine, kale, mixed greens and rustic red wine vinaigrette. I decided to add chicken as a protien which was an up charge. Initially I was having difficulty using the coupon as it wasn't registering the additional chicken up charge as a purchase but management stepped in and ended up comping the entire meal. I appreciate the staff going above and beyond to honor the coupon offer. I ordered my meal to go and it was packed nicely with the dressing on the side so the salad would remain crisp. When I got home to eat it, I was impressed by another great salad with tons of fresh ingredients that made for a delicious and healthy meal. Loving this new addition to the neighborhood! Fresh, healthy, tasty, fast food; what's not to love? Even the employees seem jazzed to be there. Everyone is incredibly attentive and helpful, looking out for your every need, even though there's no official table service. You order at the front and your food is brought out to you in no time at all. As for food, I highly, HIGHLY recommend the sandwiches. In particular, The Happy Hippie, which is easily veganized by removing the cheese and switching the bread to ciabatta. It's a marvelous mess, stained pink by beet "caviar" (basically a vinegary beet relish), loaded with hummus, avocado, sprouts, cucumbers, mushrooms, and satisfyingly crunchy carrots for contrast. The toasted bread really pulls it all together, despite the assembly wanting desperately to fall apart. You may need a fork to finish it an and a shower when you get home, but this one is worth the struggle. Bonus points that there's a free parking lot in back, though it is small and will fill up quickly at lunchtime. read more

This was my first time visiting the new location near Lamar and 38th St. I ordered two sandwiches to go. While waiting, I noticed the large indoor seating area and some outdoor tables that were getting good use on this nice Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, my first experience wasn't stellar since my order was incorrect. I had indicated that I didn't want cheese on my sandwich, but it still came with it. Removing it was a hassle since it was right next to the beet caviar (finely chopped beets) that I actually did want to eat. This was on the Happy Hippie sandwich, which was very filling and very messy in a good way. I also tried the Vegan Bahn Mi. It looked a little small at first, but at least it packed a lot of flavor. Overall, I'd probably order the Happy Hippie again--it was hearty and seemed like a fair value for the price. Hopefully next time, the order comes out right. read more

Mendocino Farms is one of the few islands of civilization in Downtown L.A. It is a lunch place: soup, salad and sandwiches. The ingredients are fresh all natural and good. There is serious attention to how things taste, whether the food is good for you, and having a happy place to sit. During my convention days in L.A., I clung to Mendocino Farms like a Titanic Survivor clinging to some floating jetsam. At night, a lifeboat would come by to rescue me. It would take me to an ethnic neighborhood for an amazing meal. Santa Monica Beautiful People count as their own ethnic group. But it could also be Korean or Filipino or Guatemalan or whatever. After breakfast, I would be thrown back into the cold water and have count on Mendocino Farms to save me again at noontime. * * * Having Mendocino Farms come to Austin, Was like having a kindly Dutch uncle come to visit after years of absence. The food here is just as good as it is in Los Angeles. I had a tomato bisque to die for, and a tofu with crackling rice salad that was fun on a stick. I don't get guava lemonade very often. Mendocino Farms will teach you to love the beverage. * * * The menu is small. All signs are that they intend to change their line-up seasonally. IN: I tried the Not So Fried Chicken sandwich, and I'm so glad I did! This sandwich is made up of roasted chicken breast rolled in crispy buttermilk fried bits on ciabatta, and it absolutely delivers. OUT: The Farm Club is your classic turkey, bacon, lettuce, and tomato on whole wheat. Unfortunately, it felt very dry despite the herb aioli. While the food is delicious, the customer service here has been horrid. I've been a patient at the hospital across the street for a week and ordered from here twice. Both times the order has been incorrect. The first time I ordered the Thai Salad (best salad ever) with extra dressing and Tomato soup. When my husband made it back there was no extra dressing and no soup. He made the walk back and they gave him the soup and threw in a free cookie. Ordered again today and similar issue. Originally forgot the extra dressing again and was given a small cup of soup instead of a bowl. The food is already pricey (and it is good), but at this point Im convinced they're purposefully ripping people off because it's hard to believe their employees can be so inept that they mess orders up so regularly. I saw that Mendocino Farms was a chain from California and had several colorful, fresh sandwich and salad options on their menu, including multiple vegetarian options. I had several on the menu I wanted to try, but ended up going with the Happy hippie sandwich and tomato soup. I felt that it was a little pricey for how much food you get - it might be a little more worth it if a side was included. The sandwich was really tasty and fresh as promised, with a nice brightly colored beet spread. I felt really good after eating it, not bloated or heavy. I don't particularly recommend the tomato soup - I felt that it was too creamy and lacking in flavor. I probably wouldn't get that again. I think I'll be back to try some of the salad options that looked good - definitely recommend visiting here at least once! The indoor dining area is very cute as well. read more

Mendocino Farms never disappoints! Thankful you for the quality and service every time

This is doomed Austin real estate that changes hands every few years, but we had high hopes when we saw that Mendocino Farms was moving in. Seemed like a welcome addition and a good location by all the medical stuff for their concept. We recently went and could not have been more disappointed. We came in for a late lunch, and while it seemed that there was plenty of staff buzzing about, a lot of the tables were dirty and it was absolutely FREEZING in there with unnecessarily loud music. We tried going outside, but the traffic on 38th was even louder. So, an unpleasant environ overall. The food didn't make up for anything. The "modern caesar" was just odd--it had these "superfood crunchies" that honestly felt like you were chewing sand. The "chef's special" golden state cobb was OK. We do have to say that the portions are at least normal for what you're paying. The kid's pizza bites that our daughter got was LOL. Honestly just toast (literal toast) with some sauce and mozzarella under a broiler. It reminded us of the homemade pizzas we used to make with matzah for Passover. Everyone was friendly, and we were pleased to have a healthy meal, but we were so unimpressed by everything, and don't have any plans to be back even though it's so close. We'll be surprised if they last a year, but we wish them well in the meantime. Three stars, barely. read more

Classic me -- fueled by sandwich euphoria, geographically confused. I realized this as it was my 2nd time there in the last few days and didn't see my review for this location. To clarify: the brand new Mendocino Farms on 38th St (the correct one!) is every bit as amazing, possibly even more so now that I've had time to reflect on my sandwich enlightenment. And yes, Alex was once again an absolute legend. Friendly, helpful, and full of positive energy -- like the human embodiment of avocado toast. Alex made my wife and me feel like we were VIPs at the grand opening of flavor itself. So if i was to sum it up: The sandwiches? Still divine. The vibes? Still immaculate. My sense of direction? I live down the road and am so happy another casual dining spot opened up in the area. There's not enough good ones in central Austin, and this one is fantastic. I have gut issues and appreciate the fact the Mendocino farms is transparent on their menu, with the nutrition info downloadable online. Very few restaurants offer that. The food was delicious. I got the Turkey avocado salsa verde sandwich, which was full of flavor. I also got the lemon chicken soup, which is not something I would normally eat, but it was so good too. It's crazy to think that subway is a block away, their foot longs are more expensive for terrible quality and the worst staff imaginable. The quality of Mendo is loads better across the board. Staff was attentive and over-the-top nice. They have their own parking lot with access on 2 different sides! Who would have thought that that would be such an important amenity. I look forward to coming back every week. I'm also looking forward to the revolving seasonal menu as well. read more

Wow. We are visiting our family in Austin and they took us to this restaurant. It had a nice atmosphere and I liked the decoration. They had house made drinks and a nice porch. They were super creative within establishing the restaurant, for an example the workers had there name tags and a tag that showed their favorite menu item. As for the food, it was great. The chicken tenders were good and "The Happy Hippie" I would definitely recommend. The couscous was interesting. Overall, great experience. Definitely hope we will be back. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday, not knowing much about Mendocino Farms and it must have shown because a friendly employee came out from behind the counter to talk to us as we viewed the menu. She pointed out some popular items and answered our questions. The two sandwiches and soup we ordered were wonderful. Innovative combinations of flavors and healthy sized portions; I took half a sandwich home. The restaurant is largely unchanged from the prior tenant. It is bright with a lot of windows and on a nice day, it has several tables outside that expand the welcoming atmosphere outside. read more

I was really excited to see Mendocino Farms open in the neighborhood! The food is definitely good, fresh, and thoughtfully put together. No complaints on taste/quality. The challenge has been the online ordering experience. I know they are new, so some hiccups are expected, but both times I've placed a lunch pickup order, my "ready by" time has been off by more than 20 minutes. That delay really eliminates the convenience of ordering ahead. I'll take a break from ordering there now but hope this location will be successful and they can smooth out the timing. read more

We got the Chimichuri steak and bacon, chicken pesto caprese (gluten free bread), and crispy rice salad with chicken. Came here for the first time over the weekend for lunch. In short - excellent food, subpar experience. Upon walking in, if you get in line to order food (as opposed to the folks who ordered online) you're basically roped into an area where your face is super close to a giant electronic menu on the side wall. It's awkward. And it's a huge menu so it takes a while to read, as you basically block any other patrons from entering or reading the menu or walking up to order. There's no paper menu or way around this, so initial impressions, not great. Then you order at a counter, with a human. Fine. But then they had to print the receipt and hand it to you, so you could carry it to your table (because who doesn't love handling BPA-covered receipts right before eating a sandwich?) and then use your own phone, scan the table, and type in the number on the receipt. So they know where to bring your food. Seriously???? How is this the best option you could have come up with? Clumsy, unhygienic, just ick. And requires you to be on your phone. As we waited for our food to arrive, hubs munched on his bag of chips. He then had greasy fingers, but there is nowhere to get a napkin, anywhere, so ... just waited that one out. Once our food came (which was a reasonable amount of time), napkins came with the trays. No utensils were provided - but upon walking yourself up to the counter to ask, you could get one (to eat anything that fell out of the sandwich). My side sauce (which is how it came, not a special request) was in a plastic cup, with a lid. We were dining in - can we just use a washable metal bowl and reduce some of the plastic? The whole time we ate, a worker was putting apple slices into plastic containers. The whole "farm" concept was lost when the restaurant is oozing with plastic. The astroturf seats are cute, but how are they getting cleaned? And no knife to spread the sauce on my sandwich was annoying. The place doesn't know if it wants to be self serve or not. Is it a wholesome "farm" setting or plastic central? We will be back - good flavors, fresh ingredients, good bread, and folks were friendly. But we'd appreciate the whole receipt/phone thing disappearing, utensils and napkins available at the drink station, and a better way to view the menu to not feel so rushed to order. read more
