This is a meh deli. I ordered the soup and half a sandwich. Got a matzo ball soup and a pastrami on rye. Pro: the pastrami was sliced thinly and it had a good taste and mouthfeel. The matzo ball soup was standard, nothing to write home about. The slaw was alright. Generous with the mustard. Cons: They used white bread, not rye and the bread wasn't toasted, so it stuck to the top of my mouth with each bite. Also, the sandwich was super small, even for half a sandwich. Like the size of a small Arby's sandwich. The pickle had no crunch and was super rubbery and limp. If you do decide to try this place, take your food to go. The seating area is a constant flurry of delivery drivers picking up their orders. It's not a place where you would want to hang out. I appreciated the Seinfeld references on the menu because I loved the show, but I don't think I will be returning to this deli when there are others to choose from in the city. Sorry to say Mendy's DID NOT do it for me! The few blocks I saved by not walking to 2nd Ave Deli will haunt me for some time! I was excited to see the deli in the neighborhood! But that excitement too a quick downward spiral! I ordered a brisket on rye and received it on white bread instead! Not that it would have made a difference because the meat was dry! I received from pretty decent food. And a turkey and corned beef sandwich. It had fresh lettuce and tomato. However much to my surprise it was done made on White Bread. Went recently for the first time. Had a pastrami sandwich. The pastrami is every bit as good as the " name brand" delis. Unfortunately, it's served on the cheapest crap white bread shaped like rye. I'll never understand establishments who get the hard stuff right and screw up the easy part. They obviously buy this cheap bread in bulk and it really does detract from the sandwich. Next time when I go, I'll come with my own two slices of rye and throw their bread in the garbage. I wouldn't even give their bread to birds. I have too much respect for them. This Mendy's moved from Park Ave and 34th Street...i had the misfortune of having no other kosher deli to go to in the neighborhood at the t, and the food was very poor. Frozen matzo balls, corned beef, roast beef, pastrami kept sliced and rolled up ready to be slapped onto two slices of rye or a roll. This place is a very poor example of fine kosher cuisine. If you find yourself stuck having to go here, eat safe, order a hot dog or gefilte fish because they buy that, and do not prepare it themselves. Also the cleanliness is questionable. read more

Fabulous food and excellent service - so lovely to spend the day! I will come back soon for sure. The pea soup was out of this world, my friend's mushroom barley soup was equally scrumptious and the falafel and pita sandwiches were extraordinary. Mine was extra spicy, my friend's regular. Both were amazing especially when combined with coleslaw and pickle and dressings on the side. This was the most superb vegetarian luncheon for the two of us. Watched the cook cleaning up and throwing out garbage. Then my food is done. The cook thensticks his ungloved, unwashed hand into a plastic container (quart size) of salt and uses his dirty hands to then put the salt on my food. I mentioned the incident to the manager on my way out. Immediately through my food in the garbage. The contaminated the entire container of salt which will be probably be used for weeks. Disgusting. I wrote a review about 4 years ago on Google singing the praises of this place for their warm turkey sandwiches. It is now Mendys 2.0. Since then, they moved down the street to a smaller space, probably due to Covid. Four years ago I came here for the fresh roasted turkey sandwich. I came here today for the same reason. Their fresh roasted turkey today tasted like it was roasted 4 days ago. The meat was dry, cold refrigerated and flaky. A big disappointment for $20. I ordered their salad for $ 17, which was good. Lunch came to over $40. This will be my last visit to Mendys 2.0. read more
