I'm not a huge ramen person, so the fact that I finished my entire bowl says a lot! I know their first location gets PACKED. So, we called on a Friday afternoon, and there was no line. We got seated immediately and placed our orders. The karaage was crispy and saucy (and the veggies that came with it were so good). The wagyu was of course perfection (we tried the plum one). Wife and I decided to be adventurous last night, and opted to try this new Japanese Ramen Restaurant called MENSHO at Westgate in Glendale..... My Honest Review: - Presentation is good, but it stops there.... The Food taste pretty mediocre for being so overpriced. $28 for a single bowl of Ramen, $24 for 4 pcs of Nigiri just because they added "Wagyu" to the name, yet it taste just like the All You Can Eat Nigiri at Chinese Seafood Buffet ??? Takoyaki is pretty Ok, but I had better ones from the street food in Asia... Expect to pay over $100 for a simple dinner for 2, and if you have kids, you might as well take a HELOC on your mortgage! - Pissed Poor Service with arrogant servers (maybe trying to imply the Japanese culture?)....Lets just say he got waaaay below the suggested tips on his card machine.... So of course he gave me such a bad look and handed the final copy of my receipt with an attitude....No "Thank You", just anxious to see us leave..... I know that it's non customary and consider an insult when you tip in any restaurant in Japan, maybe I should have also "implied" the Japanese culture and left him ZERO tip..... - Don't assume you will have a nice Quiet dinner alone with your better half, as your only option is to sit on the Sushi bar, share the community tables with other customers, or sit on the Patio when it's 100 degrees out.... - Don't ask for utensils as you will get resistance from your server, and only deserve to eat there if you know how to use a chopstick - Drink your Beverage slowly as you will not get a quick refill - Are we ever coming back? This place has been the subject of very intense debate between me and my friends. Two friends say it's "the best." One has been to Japan once so I guess he knows and you can stop reading now. But, personally, I think this place is mediocre af. I went a second time to make sure I wasn't missing something. My review is as follows: To begin, I admit that the fried chicken app, spicy or not, is very good. The raw beef nigiri is also very good and beautifully prepared. The ramen noodles themselves are also pretty good. But the ramen dishes as a whole are terribly underwhelming in my opinion. You basically have only a few vegan and a few non vegan ramen options. Can't speak on the vegan. Most of the non vegan options use a "rich" chicken broth, which is an understatement. It's rich because they seem to basically melt the bones into the broth. While I don't find that gross, I do find that the result is basically a thick sludge. More a sauce than a broth. And it's a tad gritty, fine, but still kinda chalky. The flavor is okay, but not the savory bomb you'd expect from that sort of time/effort in making the broth. So, broth no good. Eggs and noodles good, but the other stuff they add is also underwhelming--it just doesn't lift or cut through the "richness" aka thickness like you need. Im also not sure that the combo of ingredients, except the more traditional signature, make much sense. Anyway I still gave it another a shot due to my friends' passion and picked one that didn't use the rich chicken broth--the butter miso lobster waygu. Aight so surf and turf. Classic combo. 50 freaking dollars. CAN you go wrong? Apparently. The broth was not a sludge but it was fairly bland. And for the price the amount of meat--supplemented with ground waygu, cmon, why-- was not good. But whatever, portions aside, it was just underwhelming taste wise. Unfortunately, I just don't get it. So I'd say pass. Go for Hana or some unknown hole in the wall in your hood. read more

I came early and told the waitress that the rest of our 8 person party was coming in 10 minutes and they were quite accommodating. They let me hold a 8 person table and allowed me to wait for the rest of my party. Note that Mensho is on the backend of a mini plaza; there's plenty of parking in the back lot. What was really nice was that the waitress offered to explain all the ramen options and was very specific with how they tasted; offering more details than what was written on the menu. This was quite helpful considering we had blind people in our group. Another example of great service was that they allowed us to be on 6 different bills. Note that because we were in a large party, they forced charged us all a 20% tip. I got their signature ramen which was a creamy chicken broth that includes their wagyu, pork, duck, and chicken. I ordered their OG spicy sauce on the side; they give you so little for $3. The overall ramen broth is slightly more thick than other ramen, but it is so much more flavorful than other places. Each of the meats were cooked to excellence and the service for all 8 of us was fast. The whole restaurant was sleek and clean. My order came out to $41.15 (includes tax and tip). Thus, the place is definitely pricey but at least you're paying for quality food and service. read more

Mensho has solid and consistent quality, the signature is one of the thickest broths I've ever had, the noodles are thicker, low hydration noodles with more of a snap than chew, and they use it for all the bowls I've gotten before. It is on the pricier side but they supplement it with more expensive toppings. I personally don't really like coming much due to the price and not liking the noodle texture, but overall it's a solid place to splurge at. read more

Everything we ate was delicious! We started with the chicken karaage. Probably the best we've had outside of Tokyo. Then the wagyu uni sushi and ikura uni roll was next. You can really taste the freshness/quality. I had the spicy yuzu ramen + chicken and my husband had the garlic ramen. Hands down best ramen in Phoenix! Our server seemed impatient and a little frantic at the start (it was very busy and loud to be fair). The food runners and person refilling water were attentive and explained each dish thoroughly. Overall great experience and will definitely be back! Just maybe not a Friday night. PS. As you are being seated the host shouts Irasshaimase (welcome) & the rest of the staff follows. Second time at mensho - first time was their Mesa location so I knew I was in for a treat. We came on a Saturday for a late lunch so we didn't have to wait to be seated. I think their dinner service is way busier. The restaurant is nice, has indoor, outdoor and bar seating. I got the cauliflower ramen based on the waitresses recommendation since she said it was great for peanut butter lovers - she was right. The broth was so rich and creamy. I added pork and egg, the pork didn't do it for me but the rest of the dish was so delicious that we will give them a pass. My husband got the g.k.o which was also great but IMO the cauliflower was better. We also tried the corn wings - my table wasn't a fan but I did like it. Service was good. Prices are higher than you would expect for ramen but you are really getting a premium experience. Probably best ramen in town. Can't wait to go back and bring my niece who loves ramen here. read more

The interior is beautiful and there is a variety of booth, bar, and high-top vs. normal seating. When we arrived at around 5:45 PM it was fairly full and there were already people waiting! We started off with the Uji Strawberry Matcha as well as a Sunset Sour. The strawberry matcha drink didn't really taste of matcha and leaned heavily towards sugar-y strawberry water. It's *not* worth it. That said, my bf really enjoyed his Sunset Sour and as someone who rarely drinks alcohol, I thought it was decent. I ordered the Signature Toripaitan which comes with 4 types of chashu (wagyu, smoked pork, duck, and chicken) as well as truffle paste, an ajitama egg, and more. The noodles here are the real star as they are a nice chewy consistency and had great bite to them. They had a slight squiggle which helped hold the broth with each bite. The broth itself was rich, thick, and creamy. The only downside is I do think the chashu slices are super thin and while there is a variety of meats the slices are so small it didn't feel substantial enough. My bf got the GKO (garlic knock out) which is a creamy chicken soup with 5 kinds of garlic! The garlic flavor is STRONG and I loved it. The spice does slowly build on the palate which may deter some folks (aka me). It also comes with chicken chashu which was my favorite out of the 4 I had in the signature. Lastly, we also got an appetizer of karaage which was my favorite part of the meal. It was so crispy, perfectly cooked, and still wonderfully juicy in the inside. There were also sliced eggplant pieces and the OG chili sauce was tangy, sweet, and rich. Overall, 4.5/10. I brought my little sister when she visited me this week, 10/10 in every way. The interior made you feel like you were in a Japanese Tatami room, it smelled amazing and the space was clean. Tee got their signature ramen, mine with extra mushrooms. The runny egg was perfect and the soup was filling, noodles were perfectly cooked and the broth was incredible. I've been waiting to try out the mesa location but settled here because the wait time here are not as bad and the service was just amazing. The Ambiance here is very lively, good spirts and it's perfect for date night or a first date. I went here for date night with my husband and ordered the ramen, and a soda they had there. I forgot which one I got but it was pretty good, we also ordered the takoyaki. I will say it was pretty fresh and hot so make sure to blow on it because it will burn your tongue if you don't. The server was a sweetheart took care of us, and got us in and out of there. It was very nice and had a great time. Definitely will be back here for another date night or a girl dinner either way. Walked in on a random weeknight as someone I know said it was the "best" ramen place. I'm solo so I got seated right away. I skipped over appetizers because I was really just craving ramen. I ordered the garlic ramen plus an egg and ohhh my lord the depth of flavor on the broth was life changing and exactly the food hug I needed. I took the whole bowl out. Have been wanting to come visit Mensho since the Chandler location opened. Was waiting out the hype train. Then all of a sudden this location opens (minutes from my home) and I was so happy. However, for those who do not know, the two locations have different menus...Chandler offers a more traditional or authentic menu while the uptown location caters to its "unique" clientele more with flashier offerings. Regardless, my friend and I enjoyed our meal very much, enough so that now we are planning a visit to the Chandler location. The staff and service was great, ambiance was very nice without being too stuffy or Scottsdale esque. They have a huge parking lot in the back. We went between lunch and dinner so absolutely no wait. Sat at our table immediately. We each opted for the heavier creamy Ramen entrees and definitely felt it on our way out. No regrets, the fresh Ramen noodles was evident. The protein all so tender and flavorful. Our aji fish app was probably the only underwhelming thing about the experience. It was breaded thicker then we anticipated, very oil heavy. We were expecting something more Japanese centric like a potato starch coating or tempura batter. But nope, reminded of the batter they use at typical bars or Pete's fish n chips. I recommend you skip it unless you absolutely insist on having fried fish to accompany your Ramen. I am glad it's so close to me and will be back every so often. Craved me some Mensho ramen today and decided to drive to Phoenix from south Goodyear, as it's closer to me than Mesa. This location is a lot bigger than Mesa and ambiance was on point. What a treat! I lucked out and I got to try their limited time offering Chocolate Duck Matcha ramen... wow!! Thanks to Kevin who talked me into it! Guys!!! FOOD The food is amazing. It's the best ramen in the valley (and even in California). I think the Mesa location might be a bit better though. AMBIENCE It's less crowded than the Mesa location, but it's a bit louder. SERVICE I didn't appreciate the lack of transparency. 1) We ordered a $5 Genmaicha green tea and they just gave us a hot cup of water and told us to wait for it to steep. I was expecting something better at a famous award-winning restaurant, or at least for the tea to be steeped already like other comparable restaurants. 2) When we ordered our ramen, they asked if we wanted an egg but didn't mention that it was an extra charge. This felt like a scummy tactic to up-charge people. Adding egg to your ramen is an extra $5. Not worth it. read more

How can I even put into words how incredibly delicious the cauliflower tantanmen ramen is? It is a fully vegan dish and it is layered with flavors. Savory, nutty, spicy ... the noodles are the perfect amount of chewiness. My only small note might be that the cauliflower pieces are left a *little* bigger so they aren't so hard to find in the bowl, but wow. I would eat this again and again. The corn ribs in the appetizer menu were also surprisingly good and really fun to eat! Don't sleep on the spicy salt and lemon with the corn. The staff was friendly and multiple people checked on us through the meal to make sure we were set. We had questions about drinks and if they didn't know the answer, they found out and were patient about it all. 10/10 will be back! read more

I am not exaggerating when I say this place has the best Ramen I have ever eaten, the G.K.O bowl blew my mind and it's basically ruined Ramen for me for other places, the Tako was on par with that description as well. The establishment was the closest to authentic Japanese atmosphere that I've found in Phoenix. The entire staff yells out a greeting and a goodbye when we came and left, our waitress and server were both extremely attentive and explained the dish with great detail when served. went at 3:30 pm on a saturday and was surprised at how quickly my partner and i were seated, knowing how long the wait is at the mesa location even during slow service hours. i love how spacious and bright the interior is without being overly sunny. additionally, there's a good amount of parking. what's interesting is that although it's spacious my partner and i were seated at a two seater table that was flanked by more two seater tables on both sides with only a gap of 6 inches in between. we were uncomfortably close to those two other couples and could've jumped into their convos if we wanted to. we could've bumped elbows with them. now if this were the mesa location which has a small interior, fine. but there's enough room here where the tables shouldn't be pushed up this close to each other. i tried to tune out the other parties but i know their life stories now just because i was sitting only 6 inches away. also it was uncomfortable trying to squeeze into my seat with bumping into someone. at one point my server got stuck between my chair and the chair of the table next to ours. good grief (i love the server tho, she was kind and charismatic). onto the food, it was great. it was served quickly after we placed our orders and very delicious. the couple next to us weren't impressed with their signature ramen, maybe it's the fact that they probably had better japanese food in hawaii. ask me how i know all of that. i however enjoyed my classic ramen. i love that you get the whole egg, a lot of ramen spots only give you half. i'll come back to mensho again in the near future and bring my friends who haven't eaten here. it's def one of the best ramen spots in the valley. i also love that it's close to me than the mesa location! read more

You want a rich, luxurious, sumptuous noodle dish? You know where it is. I got the lobster miso A5 wagyu bowl, because I got some lunch stipend from work. It was definitely one of the bougiest bowls I've ever scarfed. And, it was great. Don't get me wrong. I can't imagine spending $50 normally on one meal. Buuuut, if you had the chance, I would definitely experience it once. That's why this is only 4 stars, I know I can't enjoy it too often.
