I found this spot while searching for a place to treat myself and I'm so glad I did. I got to sit at the counter so I could see the chefs cooking. They were very clean and worked calmly despite how busy it was. The serving staff was very accommodating, professional, and on top of everything. I received all my food in a timely manner and each dish was removed as soon as I was finished with it. Let me tell you I've had a lot of Tonkatsu ramen and this is easily the best tonkatsu ramen in Charlotte! The broth is rich and creamy. You can tell the broth was cooked the right way low and slow. The only place in Charlotte that you consistently get a ajitma egg(soft boil) as most place done even bother and give you a hard boiled egg. Cute spot with good ramen! I appreciated that there's ample parking in the front of the building. They have a unique system of ordering and paying via a QR code/your phone so, there isn't really "service" (which is completely fine! It's a pretty simple and seamless system). I was instructed by the host staff to find a seat and to order via the instructions. I sat at a two-seat table (with a booth side and a chair on the other side) because the booth has back support. A hostess came up to me and told me that I "have to sit at the bar" because I'm a single person, and that didn't really sit well with me (pun intended, lol). I love bar seating and it's typically my go-to, but because the bar seats didn't have a back, I went for a booth seat. It would have been much more courteous of the hostess to explain before hand that single guests should sit at the bar only, as opposed to me finding a seat and getting settled only to be told that I have to get up...it came across as rude. Her tone with me was sort of nice-nasty...it's not always what you say, it's how you say it. Nonetheless, I sat at the bar and ordered the Spicy Tan Tan which came out timely and was super tasty. Definitely some of the best ramen I've had in the city! The noodles and broth are house-made, and it comes across in the springy-ness of the noodles and broth flavor. Can we talk about what a cute little new ramen spot. This place has contactless ordering where you place an order online when dining in. I came here to try the ramen but I must say I'll be coming back for their soba. Their ramen is on par with others I've tried. Their soba is served warm, typical when you say soba you think the cold buckwheat noodle dipped in a cold broth. However theirs you add sauce to! Jinya and Futo Buta who?? Menya is the new kid in town and they're taking Charlotte by storm. Y'all, these reviews don't lie - it's literally the best ramen I've had outside of DC and the customer service is fantastic as well! Pricing is reasonable and fair - their ramen is a few bucks less per bowl than Jinya and FB. Ambience: clean, modern, no frills, and kinda small so it fills up fast! There's a long counter facing the kitchen and there's also a long booth with individual tables/chairs for parties who want to face each other. Great views of the kitchen, too. Food: absolutely everything we got was so flavorful and cooked perfectly. We split the Buta Bao bun and hot chicken sando. I loved how fluffy and light the Bao bun was and the flavors on both were incredible. My friend got the Tonkotsu ramen and I got the Spicy Tan Tan. Seriously, this ramen blows others in the area out of the water. The broth wasn't watered down at all - it was so rich and creamy. Especially when you cut up the perfectly cooked jammy egg and mix it with the broth *chefs kiss*. My only thing is I wish there was a way to customize spice level here like you can at Jinya. The spicy tan tan is probably a good spice level for the general public but if you're a spice fiend like me, you'll wish this was kicked up a few notches. I asked a waitress for something to level up the spice, and she brought me a jar of a dried red seasoning. It was nice, but didn't make it spicier. Maybe spice customization is something they can add to the menu later? Service: mostly minimal due to the QR code that allows you to place your order and pay. Water, napkins, cups, and chopsticks are at your table so the staff mostly just bring out your food. However, every staff member we encountered was very friendly and efficient. While enjoying our hot chicken sando, a waitress came over with another sando and said "we didn't make that one with the hot sauce on it so here's another one properly made". So nice! We didn't notice about the sandwich and were enjoying it regardless so it was really nice they took that initiative and brought out a new sando made spicy. So, run, don't walk, to Menya. I recommend getting there early as they fill up FAST! Word is getting out! We got there at 5 and it was empty but within 30 mins, it became completely full. I'm happy to see they're doing so well. Yes, as a guy who has travelled Japan many years ago, this brought the memories all flooding back. This is legit. There are quite a few ramen spots in Charlotte, and many of them are very good. These flavours here, however, are artisans recreating an experience. The broth is everything. From scratch and you can tell. I'll be honest, I don't do the meat thing often, and I chose the vegan broth. I can just tell from the effort put into it, and the FLAVOUR, that all the broths here are why the place is often packed. The noodles are made from scratch too, and are lovely. If I had anything to recommend to the people who run this place, I would say it'd be awesome if there were more veggie options. I'm not saying there are none- there ARE a few. And they are super. And we had them. If you are veggie it's easy to order because you order all the veggie options and you're done. If you like them then (and holy cow, we did) you know what you will have when you come here. But if you come here with the expectation "hmm, I wonder what I will have?" then it's probably not going to go like that. It's cool though- it'll be really fine food. Gotta get the noodles, though. It's what they do. We had the truffle yassai shoyu and I was really impressed. Always difficult in a vegan broth to find a flavour as intense as a bone broth. They do it with truffles, but they do it really sensitively. It's the EXACT right amount. I know truffles are trendy and whatnot, but whenever you get some truffle pasta at an Italian place for example they literally bathe you in truffles (like they want you to know you are "getting your money's worth"), but it's an intense flavour that you can't just throw around like a baseball. At Menya they have the perfect amount that creates a delicate, sophisticated but still somewhat bold flavoured broth for us vegetarians (and even us "fair weather vegetarians".) ;) Definitely recommend. First time going here. First they run business on a QR code system to make your orders online. No cash only card payment. I tried the QR code system, but it was giving me a hard time (really glitchy). So the server gave me a menu and took my order. At first I thought it was something with my phone until the table next to me was having the same issue, so I knew it wasn't my phone but it was the system at the restaurant. I ordered the Shotu ramen & pork Gyoza. Funny I got the Ramen way before the Gyoza Appetizer. Ramen was just okay. I needed to fix it a bit with white pepper. When I finally got the Gyoza I was a couple of bites away from finishing the Ramen. Took a small bite of gyoza to find the ground pork was still pink, I asked the server if it was normal to serve pork pink? I sent it back and the server said they will remake the Gyoza. Got the 2nd attempt, and same think pink pork. Sent it back. And asked for the check. I saw gyoza going out to other tables. And told the server I would not serve it. Or have the kitchen steam it for another 1-2 minutes I paid my check and left. read more

i have heard so much about this place and finally got to come check it out! first of all, it is mostly self serve restaurant. you find a seat, you order from the QR code at our table and they will bring the food to you. i really liked the open kitchen concept where you can see them preparing your food in front of you. we got the red tonkotsu ramen and abura soba. the ramen was delicious, the pork was very tender and broth was on point. the highlight was the abura soba!! it is a dry noodle dish where you mix all the ingredients together in your bowl. it creates this saucy deliciousness bowl!! the noodles they use for this was a bit thicker then their ramen noodles. i personally prefer these thicker noodles more! it's more chewy and gets very flavorful! another fun thing with ordering abura soba is at the end they give you a little portion of rice. you mix the rice in with the remaining sauces and tada, you get a new dish and not waste any food. absolutely genius! read more

We went there at the time the store opened. There was already a line to get in. Counter seats were still available. I had a shoyu tori chintan ramen and pork gyoza. The soup looked so dark, but despite the color, it wasn't too salty at all. I chose shoyu over tonkotsu, because it had wantons, and I'm glad that I did. You can add wantons to any ramen, but to my taste, they don't go well with tonkotsu. Ajitama tasted great, also yuzu peel did a great job! As for tonkotsu, it tasted very strong garlic with a very thick layer of lard. I prefer "se-abura" to just melted lard. It's totally up to you. It took a while to get my ramen served. If you order some appetizers, that should do. I'll be back for shoyu ramen, but go to Saru for tonkotsu. read more

I was so excited to try this ramen spot. Had a hard time to find parking spot, there was a construction truck blocking some parking spots. Entered the restaurant, "server" told to sit wherever, saw a barcode so I scanned it. Found out you have to order from that website and give tips without experiencing any "service" yet. Really horrible. The only thing server did was just bring our order to our table and it's only 1 step away from kitchen. I don't think he deserves any tips tbh. They make their own noodle and it's the only good thing. It felt like self-service and you don't interact with anyone and they expect you to give tips ahead. Really weird style and we didn't like it. I've had the Tonkotsu Kuro and Aka multiple times, the broth is complex and the noodles are cooked the perfect amount everytime. And the pork belly! I am picky about my pork belly as I like it to be so soft it melts in your mouth and Menya's doesn't disappoint. I love to add extra bean sprouts to get my veggies in. There's tons of options to customize your bowl and the staff will generously provide chili oil as well. To tell you how excited I am about the opening of Menya -- the wife and I were waiting outside when they opened for business at 11:30a on the first day. A local noodle shop where I can become a regular? Awesome. For appetizers we had the gyoza and tofu bao bun. These were perfectly executed with a gorgeous presentation and exciting flavors. These appetizers were so good I almost considered switching to an entire meal of appetizers. We ordered the Spicy Tantan and vegan Truffle Yasai Shoyu ramen bowls. The Spicy Tantan had a nice creamy broth with a moderate level of spiciness. Delicious! The Yasai Shoyu has a clear, roasty flavor. The parking area is very accessible, but can be very cramped and hard to find a spot when it's busy. The dining room itself is made to accommodate several parties, and for a party of six, we only had to wait roughly 5-10 minutes for a spot to open up. To order and pay they use the QR code system where everything is provided with descriptions, add ons, etc. It requires you to put in your card information though before your order is processed. There are water pitchers, chopsticks, napkins, and cups already at the table. Food did not take long to make and service was quick. The food itself is small in terms of portion size, but oddly filling; tori karaage came out with three pieces and the spicy wonton with four, and having one bite of each already got me pretty full once the main course came out. I had the O.G. soba (I think) and it was good, but not great. It might be because I'm not the biggest ramen fan on one hand, or because I was full immediately after. We were given extra rice bowls though for the left over soup in our meal which was a pleasant surprise! Overall, great service and food, very filling and enjoyable atmosphere as well. read more

Seems ridiculous they won't take US currency. It's a new-age "hipster" style place that doesn't really hit the mark with authenticity or good flavor...The noodles on the tan tan ramen were a little undercooked and nothing really stood out.
