Really good flavor. I'm glad I tried it.

Actually, it was a really good experience. I came in really hungry, but one of the boilers was down so they offered a free appetizer to compensate for the wait. When checking out they said my meal was comped. I'd definitely come back either way cause the food was really good. Thanks

Worth the wait. I've been waiting a couple years to try this place and it did not disappoint. The staff were friendly and efficient. They did a good job getting people in and out and making sure everyone was happy. The food was amazing like you'd expect from their reputation. The Nagoya fried chicken was a surprise treat that was absolutely delicious. The ramen broth was savory and flavorful with plenty of umami goodness. Got an extra egg in mine which was worth it. The place isn't that big so make sure you get on the waitlist if you're not there when they open. Plenty of parking out front and they have a good number of tables in the place. Definitely worth a try if you're in the mood for good ramen.

Finally got to try out a Menya Ultra location. I thought it was gonna be the Clairemont Mesa location but my mom and I wanted dinner after a piano recital ran long and I thought this would be the best opportunity to try out this place. Have to say: It's probably best to go when the place is about to close. We got there at 8:30pm and there was basically no wait. My mom and I both ordered the Negi Miso noodles. I liked that the place provided a low sodium option for the more health conscious of us. I was of the thought that they might underserve on both the pork and the noodles (many other ramen places have done so with no forewarning) so I ordered extra noodles and extra pieces of chashu pork. Along with the corn. It was a lot of food. But it was very good. The pork was surprisingly so tender. I thought it was gonna be hard or chewy. I think the wheat noodles were the best part. I think you just have to come to this place on an empty stomach and starving, which was me about two hours before I ate here. Since I ate a little beforehand, it was just difficult to finish the bowl in one sitting. But hey, leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Also love that the place is bright and cozy (it's probably very chaotic when it's at full capacity) and not too loud with the background music.

My friends and I go to the restaurant around 11:30am on a Sunday. We were immediately seated at a table. We started with the 3 piece fried chicken (5/5). The chicken was tender, juicy, and had a delicious flavor. I also ordered the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen (3.5/5). I got it extra hot. It had a good kick to it. It only came with 1 slice of pork. Service was on the slow side.

Tl;dr Food is on par with the Convoy location, but group seating management is subpar and leads to unnecessarily long waits but still more room than the Convoy location. The food quality remains consistent with their other locations. The noodles were chewy and had a great texture. Between the two broths we tried, the tonkotsu was great, while the miso was a little too salty for my taste. For appetizers, the chicken karaage was not bad but nothing special. The takoyaki was the same, nothing special but it still tasted good and was up to my standards. Even though this location has more seating than the one on Convoy, we still waited for over an hour. They kept seating groups of two instead of us, claiming they wouldn't combine tables and refusing our offer to just split the group up into 2 and 3. Ultimately, when they finally sat us, they ended up combining two tables anyway. The food is still good, but the lack of flexibility and poor management for larger groups makes the long wait hard to justify. Overall, I would come back but just keep it to a party of 2.

I don't go to ramen restaurants often because the broth is too salty for my taste. This one is no exception. We ordered a kids meal, #3 Tonkotsu Chashu and spicy Miso. The noodle texture was good but the broth was salty and spicy (spicy level was ok but too salty). The kids meal came with chicken katsu and fries. We had to send them back in because they were cold and looked like have been sitting there for a while. They brought us fresh ones later after i asked. We waited for 20-30 min to get in and then waited just to get some drinking water to start. The check came pretty quickly though! Unfortunately this is not the Michelin restaurant standard that I expected.

Came in around 5:30 and missed the initial seating, we were quoted 20-35min wait but ended up waiting for more than an hour. There was a huge party of 10+ who wouldn't leave and the servers wouldn't combine single tables so they kept skipping my party and seated smaller groups of 2. Fried chicken was really good and a big portion. The tonkotsu broth is good but not hot enough for my liking.

Delicious! You can never go wrong here, I always recommend this location for ramen to my friends The broth is always rich with flavor and the meat and egg are nice additions as well service is great and quick! Ambiance is nice and feels like you are always welcomed!! Would def come back again!

Came here a little after they opened for dinner on Friday and was seated right away. For appetizers, we ordered the Nagoya style fried chicken and okonomi fries. The fried chicken was just okay but the fries were really good! They separated the bonito flakes from the fries which I thought was very thoughtful so that the flakes don't get soggy. For ramen, we ordered the miso ajitama and spicy tonkatsu. I didn't realize there was a layer of oil on top of the broth so the first sip I took was straight up oil. Definitely recommend that you mix your ramen before eating it. I really liked how thin and firm the noodles were and how tender the chashu was. However, the broth was a bit too oily for me so I only finished half my ramen. My boyfriend ordered the spicy tonkatsu katsu and said it was very spicy even though he chose the least spiciest option. We both thought the ramen was just okay. Service was good. Our server kept checking in on us and our food came out quick.

Menya Ultra has some of the best broth! The portions are very generous and the ramen is uber delicious. We had the tonkatsu charsu with a seasoned egg and corn. This is the first time trying the seasoned egg and it was sooo tasty. The miso ramen is also the perfect comfort food. Love the gyoza - it's light, crispy and delicately seasoned. The staff is friendly and helpful.

The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly and attentive, so over all I had a good experience but I have to say the ramen was just average. I had the vegan miso ramen and it was nothing special, that doesn't mean it wasn't good, it just didn't stand out. The noodles were cooked well, not super chewy or super soft, the broth was nice and creamy for being vegan, and the salt levels were good. There were many small tables for two, I'm sure you could push them together if you have a bigger party. There is no outside seating and it is not dog friendly. Plenty of parking is available as well. The only thing was the music was pretty loud, I like EDM music so I thought it was fun but it was distracting.

I ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen. While the spicy level was great, the broth was overwhelmingly salty and fishy. Siping a spoonful of the broth was similar to taking a swing of pure fish sauce. Maybe it was just a bad day, but even the noddles were off. I remember them having nice texture and a good chew to them. Today, they were rather stiff and broke away with a powdery feeling. I tried to finish the bowl, but ended up having to leave it. The regular chicken was fine, nothing very notable. I had no issues with the waitlist system and appreciated the text notifications.

Trien Menta. Long wait for paper thin pork chashu slices. Even ran out of the side order of pork chashu before 1pm on a weekend. Disappointing. There's way better Ramen options in Mira Mesa.

May I call and make a reservation?

No, but you can join their waitlist via Yelp.

Are you able to accommodate a party of 8?

Yes! We have gone with 8 people in our party. They have tables that seat 4 side by side.

Does the Yelp wait-list actually add you to the real wait-list?

Yes, I use it all the time :)

    Are dogs allowed?

I don't think so. There is no outside seating area

What kind of ramen is this? Okinawan?

    Tonkotsu Ramen from Akita.

Will you ever bring back the curry ramen you had for your 2nd anniversary?

Why isn't home kit for ramen not available anymore? That was awesome and we are very disappointed that it's not available anymore.

I am very sorry for your inconvenience. We had maintenance for the building and we could not make many noodles. The fresh noodles with best Hokkaido wheat is back now! Enjoy! order.menya-ultra.com

Can they accommodate a party of 9? I see on the website its says no more than 6 people but has an * sign next to it.

To accommodate a party of 9, you may need to be seated separately. Maybe a table of 4 and a table of 5.

Are you supposed to cook the noodles yourself when doing take out because mine came uncooked?

Only if you order the kits. The regular menu if you order take out is separated to keep the noodles and other ingredients from getting soggy. You just need to put everything together into the soup container and just eat. Less dishes and easy clean…

Will you seat 8 people? I am unsure from this comment on the website: "6 members maximum for each party online. Name will only be called twice, after that it will be marked off the waitlist."

i would sign up on the waitlist as 6 ppl and let the host know that you're changing your party to 8 ppl since i've seen big parties but worst case scenario you'll probably be split into two separate tables and make sure that everyone is there when…

I don't suppose anyone happened to see if they will be open Monday feb 17th? Tried calling multiple times on different days but they don't seem to answer the phone...Thanks!

I pass by there today and i did not see a sign saying if they were closing on Monday, so it might be open

    Can you order take out?

Yes! We usually order take out as it's easier for us as a family. The to go packaging is great as it separates all the soup, noodles and meats. As much as we don't mind eating outside I have been liking eating at home more.

Are there peanuts or peanut oils used in the food? I have a friend with a peanut allergy, so would like to know before recommending this place to them.

Our product does not contain peanuts and peanuts oils. We use meat, fish, wheat, soy, egg and milk (only for ice cream) and it may touch in the process of preparing. If you…

Is there vegetable based ramen broth?

Yes we have vegan(no fish no meat), Miso based. Please ask your server. It’s hidden menu. Thank you

For lunch on weekend, how long is the wait? For dinner on weekend, how long is the wait?

I have gone on Friday nights to the location in Mira Mesa, it is usually 45 to an hour wait. Many people show and sign in, so you will get the hour and half to two hours, but many people don't come back, so the wait has not been that bad. It is…

Do you sell gift card? Follow up question, can the gift card be used at the Mira Mesa location? Or is it specific to the Clairemont location only?

Yes only at Clairmont now. Thank you

    Do they have vegetarian ramen?

We have Vegan Ramen (no daily, no fish, no meat) It’s hidden menu. Please ask your server.

Will there be a tsukemen option in the future? When will you start making tsukemen?

    Not sure

Can we not get sesame seeds on our Ramen?

Please ask your server. Thank you

Are you open on Jan 1st?

No we will close 12/31 and 1/1 Open regularly from 1/2/2019 11-2pm 5:30-9pm…

A normal meal. A casual San Diego ramen situation. Incorrect. What actually happened was that my child experienced a culinary event so powerful it rearranged her internal belief system. She took one bite and immediately declared it her "favorite meal ever" and "the best sushi on earth," which is impressive because those are two separate categories of food, but honestly I respect the conviction. At that moment, she became a tiny ramen prophet. A noodle evangelist. A sushi sommelier of chaos. I was no longer her father. I was merely the adult with a wallet and transportation. The ramen was fantastic. The sushi was fresh. Then, as if the first visit had not already altered the timeline, my daughter made me go back the next day. Not requested. Not suggested. Made. There was no negotiation. She had tasted the mountain and demanded we return to the temple. So we did. And it was still excellent. BESHOCK is now officially part of our family lore. After finishing the entertaining and riveting apocalyptic movie, we weren't sure where we were going to eat for dinner because our first restaurant choice Ramen Nagi closed at 9pm. My son's pahtner mentioned that the Ramen Nagi in San Jose had a last seating of 9pm, so we walked briskly to the restaurant and I learned that as long as you're in line before the closing time of 9pm, you'll get served. Three of the four members in our party talked glowingly about Ramen Nagi, so I was excited to grub here for the first time. After eating their Original King ramen, the chicken karaage, the gyoza, and receiving quality customer service, I wholeheartedly concur with my family's positive reviews and understand now why the restaurant was packed at closing time and why Ramen Nagi is highly rated with 4.4 stars and 738 reviews. Ramen Nagi is located within the shops of the University Towne Center (UTC) La Jolla mall. The restaurant is located towards the west end of the mall where you'll find Raised by Wolves, new spot Chef Fei, it's across from Katsuya Ko and Alo, and it's next door to Van Leeuwen Ice Cream. Parking is paid parking at the mall, but the first hour is free. There's bright indoor seating and minimally lit umbrella covered outdoor seating. Being the foodie that I am, I prefer indoor seating, so that the lighting would be conducive to seeing the food and taking pics. Look for the banners with Japanese verbiage and a large red lantern in front of Ramen Nagi. Adjacent to the outdoor seating, there's a water feature that gives off relaxing vibes. The customer service from all of the staff we interacted with was outstanding and is probably why it's such a popular eatery. To be completely transparent, I'm not a fan of having to make my food selections on the provided sheet of paper while waiting in line. I don't know if that's normal SOP and maybe it was because we were one of the last diners and they just wanted to speed along the process. I'd rather take my time, peruse their menu, and order what I desire. Luckily for me, my Pahtner had eaten at Ramen Nagi, so I just trusted her choices with a personalized deviation. What I ordered, through my wife's recommendations, was the following: Original King ramen flavor, normal strength of salt, normal richness in oil, normal garlic, chashu pork, green onions for vegetable, #4 for my spiciness, normal thin noodles, tamago (egg), and for appetizers, chicken karaage and gyoza. I felt rushed to pick my selections. For my spice level, #4 made me sweat, so be cautious when choosing spiciness unless you can handle a lot of spice. I really enjoyed the taste of the broth and the components I chose, but the chashu was not as tender as I would have liked. The ramen was a satisfying bowl that I consumed delightfully. Make sure to order both the chicken karaage and gyoza. The karaage was succulent, tasty, and would have eaten well with white rice. The gyoza was unique as it came out not looking like the dumplings I'm accustomed to. It came out flat and covered in a crunchy texture. That too was memorable and yummy. My family and I had quality time enjoying The Dog Stars and dining at Ramen Nagi. I understand now why my family recommended eating here and now I recommend everyone try out this delish ramen restaurant.

Our Date night done right by this cozy noodle shop. We went with the black garlic ramen (that…read moretonkotsu mayu broth is no joke with that deep, rich, and almost squid ink from the burnt garlic oil) topped with a perfectly jammy soft-boiled egg, tender chashu, wood ear mushroom, scallions, and crispy garlic bits. The broth had that long-simmered pork bone depth without being overly heavy, and the garlic oil gave it a smoky, almost umami-bomb finish plus a touch of seafood with that 燻 and 鮮. We also grabbed an extra chashu plate on the side which melts in our mouth, lightly charred at the edges. The space has a fun, energetic izakaya vibe exposed brick, big fabric noren banners hanging from the ceiling (the "Universal Noodle Creator" branding is a nice touch), and an open kitchen where you can watch the cooks in action. It gets loud and communal, which made for a lively date night rather than a quiet one good to know going in. Service was quick, water and shichimi/pepper grinders were on the table, and the seating (bench-style, close quarters) has the casual ramen-shop energy. It's just missing Naruto walking into this shop. If you like bold, funky, garlicky tonkotsu broths, this is a must-try. Will be back for the other flavors on the wall menu. This place doesn't do take out but takes your order as you wait in line. You can order the takeout after you sit and pack the food yourself.
