This is a small eatery (I counted max 39 seats between tables and the bar) with difficult parking…read more I was able to get a spot right in front b because I went to lunch, but the parking lot has signs saying it is for employees of the wood shop next door, and no trespassing in the lot across the street, so I think street parking is the only option? Service is great, very attentive and friendly. The food is what earns this three stars. I tried a stuffie, German onion soup, a Farmhouse burger, and a key lime Mason jar. The stuffie was a little small, and most of the flavor was imparted by the ham and the squeeze of lemon. The German onion soup, I'm not sure why it was German except to not be French? Outside the name difference, the onions were way too large, and there was a total lack of flavor going on in the soup. The crock was very large too. The burger and fries looked pretty good, and I enjoyed the flavors here. The fries were rough hewn, so there was good crispness from all the edges. The toppings of the burger, and the bun, were also hearty. Unfortunately, my medium rare burger was more like raw meat with surface browning. I'm a big fan of rare steak, but ground beef needs a little more cooking. Also, the house made ketchup is really more of a marinara sauce. If I'd ended up eating more of my plate before they took it away to re-fire the burger, I would have asked to replace the ketchup. The key lime Mason jar was e everything you want to wrap up a meal. Great flavor, lightness, citrus. I did have to bring most of it home but, unlike the burger they brought back in a box, I'm excited to get back into the key lime. From an accessibility stand point, there is no ramp to get in nor handicap parking, so the evidently don't want your business. Once you're in, there are some seats you could get in, but if this place were full it would be difficult to navigate for anyone. The bathroom is a single room, but very spacious and nice. So, mixed bag for access. Your mileage may vary, but I'm not racing to return.

We'd heard from friends that Shipwright's Daughter in Mystic was a must-try. Wow, were they right…read more From the warm greeting at the door to the beautiful decor, the experience started strong. We were seated at a lovely table for two overlooking Main Street - watching people stroll by from that elevated perch behind glass felt almost cinematic. The real star of the show was the food, which is ultimately what you're there for, and it delivered. The menu offers plenty of options without being overwhelming. I started with the Crispy Pig's Head as an appetizer - a bold choice that turned out to be outstanding. For my entrée, the bucatini with seacoast mushrooms, sherry, parmesan, mushroom cream, and fine herbs was perfectly cooked, and carried a subtle but deeply flavorful sauce. And the housemade sourdough with poblano honey butter? Absolutely outstanding. To be fair, our server took a little time to warm up but found their footing and gave us everything we needed. Parking in Mystic on a busy weekend night can also be a challenge and expensive. Neither is reason enough to skip this one. Ship Wright's Daughter is exactly the kind of restaurant Mystic deserves. Don't wait for a special occasion -- just go.

I really didn't want to write this review, but potential patrons should know what they can expect…read morewhen working with the event staff at Shipwright's Daughter - if they plan to have a private dining experience and event there. My husband and I got married last December. We decided we would hold off on celebrating with our family and invite everyone out from California to join us for a weekend full of activities in Connecticut and a special dinner at Shipwright's Daughter during Memorial Day weekend. We contacted the restaurant's events team to work out high level details starting in late January - to book a private room and hold a date and time. From the get go, the communication we received from the event staff was dismal to say the least. Not only did the events manager misquote the estimate for the room reservation, she came back and asked for a much higher price (up charging by an additional 30% of the original minimum fee) two months after we confirmed and discussed the date. She then explained it was due to the holiday weekend. Our date had never changed from the moment we inquired, so we would have appreciated knowing this upfront. Over the course of several months (and an absurd number of emails and a few calls), we tried to solidify the menu and wine selection and made multiple attempts before hearing back from the team. It was about two weeks before the big event when we were able to confirm a menu. It was about four days before the event that we heard back from the beverage director, but by then, my husband and I had already decided we would bring our own wine bottles, not wanting to leave it to chance with this team. I won't go into further details about the frustration we felt regarding their system for communications (they use an internal system that doesn't make it easy for guests to know who is copied on emails and who sees what). That is something I hope they will work out. When the big day came, I walked into the room and noticed there were a number of chairs missing, so I counted the chairs. They had an incorrect number of chairs for adults and not enough high chairs for the toddlers. We had requested a specific number of these chairs (weeks prior and mentioned it multiple times in writing), and I thought it was safe to assume that this was a basic checklist item for events set up. I was dumbfounded in the moment. I couldn't help but wonder what else they were going to miss or mess up that evening. It was disappointing to have our family members wait while the staff scrambled to pull other chairs into the room. From the time it took to take everyone's order from the set menu, the time between courses being served, and the attentiveness for pouring water and wine - all of it was a miss. The level of hospitality that we expected from a restaurant so recognized for its incredible food and approach to sustainable sourcing was completely overshadowed by the lack of attention and care by its staff - since day one of planning this event. Even a few of our family members commented on this during the dinner. At the end of the day, we felt like an obligation rather than welcomed guests, and that is mainly why I'm leaving this review. We had been patrons of Shipwright's a couple of times prior to this event, which is why we chose this establishment - to represent the best that Connecticut has to offer, when it comes to a dining experience we could vouch for. We no longer feel that we can recommend this restaurant. If you care about hospitality, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

The place is super cute and decorate well! It's clean and a everyone was so nice and attentive which made for a really welcoming environment. I really wanted to love the food but my Italo Peruano was way too spicy when the description on the menu/the ingredients listed didn't indicate anything that would give it that much heat. Also the steak was cut very large for being served in a pasta dish and in a bowl where it was very difficult to cut it. The Lomo was good but too salty. The dessert we shared however was amazing! We got the churros which came with chocolate sauce, strawberry puree and Lucuma ice cream! They told us it was a South American fruit! It's hard to describe the flavor but it was awesome! Kind of like a caramel/butterscotch with notes of sweet potato and maple syrup! It doesn't sound like it would all work together but it absolutely does! Overall we had a good experience and would be totally willing to come try the food again next time we are in the area!

Nice open yet cozy seating and friendly smiles all around. Two of us had a delicious Cobb salad - we both felt it needed a bit more dressing - but it was super fresh and tasty. One had a steakhouse burger which she really liked as well and we split Shed Fries and Sweet Potato fries. All was delicious. I knocked one star off because we all really felt the burgers should have come with fries as opposed to a pickle spear and coleslaw. For the price, an added pile of fries would have been nice as opposed to having to order a side plate. That aside, food was delicious, service was spectacular. John was super friendly and helpful with choices too. Tempted to go back to try their brunch items! Maybe before I leave I'll get back there!

We came in at 11:04 on a Thursday (4 min after open). There were not many tables sat as of yet. We didn't see our waitress for 15+ min at which point we asked for a round of waters and our order for the table. The menus had been at the table when we sat. The food took almost 40 min to come out and the water took 25+ min to arrive. The waitress was slow as anything at all of her tables to where she would apologize without any real meaning and then ignore her tables until oftentimes others did her work. She did seem to pay attention more to those who ordered alcoholic drinks but as this was brunch, it wasn't us. The food was pretty good. The wife and I got eggs Benedict and we were happy with our meal. The kids split a chicken and waffles and loved the hot honey that came with the dish. All in all, the food was a solid 4, not too flight but pretty darn good. The service would have a hard time reaching a 1 star on the ratings. If you have time and aren't afraid to wait a bit to get your meal, this is a good place to try. The portions are big and the food is pretty good, but don't force yourself into a situation where you need something from the server. I will note a person seemed to be helping this horrible waitress with another table brining out food and resolving issues they had, but she never even stopped at our table so no clue who she was for sure or her role in things.

Despite being attached to the Marriott, this restaurant currently feels completely disconnected from any standard of hospitality. The service was the primary issue. While our initial server was adequate, the older server who brought our food was unprofessional. She delivered the wrong meal a wilted Caesar salad and a "goopy" flounder instead of the salmon that had been ordered. She implied it was either our mistake or her colleague's fault. Worse, she took the incorrect dish back but left my short rib on the table. No one offered to keep my meal warm, and by the time my companion's food finally arrived, my dinner was cold. The food itself was "wannabe" high-end, but instead, overpriced Sysco-grade quality. There is potential in the ambiance, but the kitchen and staff are clearly just going through the motions.
