Perfect anniversary dinner.Love the bar area & we were treated special by all workers. Bartenders are excellent & the wine steward helped us by several taste tests. We had a center booth that was very roomy..Ordered beet salad, center cut NY steak, asparagus & bake potato...all excellent & we shared. This is a very popular spot in Kalispell, MT. They take reservations for the main dining room with full bar. Then they have a back bar area and outside seating that is non reservation required. Food is delicious, decent size portions and seasoned well. Service was great and friendly. Would definitely recommend this place. read more

What a disappointment. We've never eaten here and have been looking forward to it. My husband ordered the bison ribeye medium well. It was brought out medium rare. Instead of just bringing a new steak cooked the way he wanted, the server asked if we wanted a new steak or this one reheated.... A $75 steak and we were offered a reheat.... Tried to be nice so said a reheat was fine. Said it would take 3 mins. About 10 mins later it came out, granted I was done eating at this point. The steak was still medium rare. Server wanted to debate this with us saying bison bleeding a bit is still medium well because bison is different than beef when cooked. No, it isn't. She wanted to reheat it yet again, told her no thanks just take it off the bill. Now my steak. I ordered the $66 filet with $19 Oscar ($85 steak at this point). Tasteless and chewy, both the steak and the lobster in the Oscar. Let's not forget the steaks were luke warm when they were served. I can't stress enough how disappointed we were. We won't be back. Ambiance was fine and overall the service was good except for the server debating our steak being undercooked. At the end she did agree the doneness of the steak didn't change after being reheated; so why the debate?? And never offer to reheat an undercooked steak at an expensive restaurant; seriously, bring out a new steak and make sure to test the temperature with a probe before bringing them out... read more

So I am visiting from NYC, and honestly wasn't expecting much from anywhere in Montana (we are a bit snobby about everything in NYC lol) However, mercantile exceeded my expectations. I sat at the bar, which is a full service bar, so I was able to order a meal. It was a bit busier than I anticipated for a Tuesday evening, but no big deal. The bartender was very busy but I wasn't in a rush. I got my drink order in, he told me about the special. I ended up ordering a Caesar salad and the fish special, which was pan seared scallops. The salad was huge, and the parmesan cheese on top was delicious! And the scallops were cooked perfect. Seared well but also melt in your mouth soft! I highly recommend this place, and will definitely visit again when I come back to Montana. read more

We heard from some locals that this is the new hip restaurant, so we had to try it. Most nice restaurants are all the way in Whitefish, so we were excited to try something more upscale in downtown Kalispell. I recommend making reservations, since they barely fit us in when we called two days ahead to get one, but being a party of two has it's benefits. First, the dining room is nice. High ceilings, copper ceiling tiles, Tiffany chandeliers, dark wood and a beautiful wooden bar. We were seated at a high top table, and immediately ordered cocktails. He had the KMOF, which is an old fashioned, and I got the jungle bird. My immediate impression was wow. My drink was so unique and so delicious. We next ordered appetizers, and I had the roasted carrots and he had the tuna tartare, and held the foie gras. He loved this appetizer, even though he modified it. The carrots were cooked perfectly, and it was a huge serving. For entrees, I had the lobster bolognese and he had the fish special, which was halibut with chimichurri sauce and cauliflower rice. He also added a side of fries. My pasta dish was delish, the tarragon and fennel flavors were perfect. He quite liked his fish and we both agreed the fries were very good. Lastly, we felt we had to try a dessert, so we went with bread pudding. It was really good, but I was so stuffed at this point, as the portions were generous. Overall, we were very impressed. Steak was cooked perfectly. We tried the sauces which were amazing. We had the sweetest server and was quick to grabbing us everything we needed. Appetizers were good and cocktails were good. Food was awe-mazing!! From the moment we entered we felt like royal guests as their customer service and attention to detail was spot on. A bit on the pricey side (especially if you're bringing teenagers that are content with a simple hamburger) but it's also good to treat teenagers here and there to show them they are worth it and that if they work hard in life they won't always have to eat rice and beans. ( For instance, sitting down and ordering and appetizers served with no napkin or utensils) The steaks are Always done to perfection the sides not so much. They are great tasting but we have experienced them either being lukewarm or the potatoes not being cooked enough. ( the fingerlings)This has been every time. If you like a buttery, oaky Chardonnay this isn't your place. This restaurant all around is the best one in Kalispell for steak. My wife ordered a steak medium well it showed up at the table rare, with so much seasoning it totally ruined the taste. We ordered food to pick up while we were staying in town. (As a side note, they make you go in to order - you can't place pickup orders over the phone.) We liked the seafood pasta, but wish there was a bit more to it. Enjoyed the Mac and cheese and the Coulotte steak (although it was a bit undercooked from what we ordered.) The KM wagyu burger was not great and full of grease when I picked it up. So, maybe the ambiance is worth the price here, but didn't have that with our pickup order. read more

He made the meal and experience well worth the drive. Food was good. Service from Paul was A+ Must orders: onion tower and gruyere Mac and cheese. Don't order. Loaded potato. Tuna app. Porterhouse cooked perfectly. Great toppings/sauce selection available. Will def be returning. Food alone was good. Do not waste your time coming here! Let me start by saying we were told by several locals this was one of the top spots so we were super excited to try this place. We eloped in national glaciers then decided to do our dinner here. We went in at 5 and the couldn't accommodate us, totally fine we should have made reservation. Their next available was at 8. We decided to wait around. So we went to the pup around the corner and had an appetizer to hold us over. This is considered fine dining and we had the furthest thing from it. Service was terrible. We were never asked about refills. We had to grab and then hand our own plates to the server who kept going mia which lead us to ask the random servers around us to get us refills. We had filet, ribeye, ny strip and the bison. All the steaks were mediocre at best. The steaks not being up to par is one thing everyone has different taste buds so that's never the issue. When you come into fine dining you expect for service to be spectacular. The service was a complete disgrace! They charged 20% gratuity on our table of 6 and I honestly don't even feel like she deserved $1. I tried contacting them but no one has called me back yet. Tried this out for a special birthday dinner and it didn't disappoint! The steak was absolutely delicious!! We ordered one of each of their desserts and enjoyed them all. My personal favorite was the chocolate peanut butter mousse. Browned butter & sage mashed potatoes were phenomenal. Fancy Mac n cheese for my 8 year old- I liked it, he didn't.
