I cannot say enough about our experience at Mercado Mia Ristorante Italiano last night! We didn't feel like customers ~ we were treated as guests (there's a big difference!). We were greeted warmly at the entrance by the host, and seated comfortably in the tastefully decorated dining room. The service was exemplary, the cocktails tasty and the food wonderful, plated beautifully. Our server, Kerri, was attentive, kind and very familiar with all of the dining options on the menu. Wow! Completely amazing restaurant hidden in a hotel. Honestly I had no idea it would be this good. The food was amazing. I had the pork with a brown sauce and mushrooms. My wife had the gemelli. Both were really tasty! For desert we shared the limoncello cake with a matching drink -- a lemon meringue drink with lemon and cake. AMAZING The drinks are really creative and great tasting. This restaurant is located inside the hotel. The decor and ambience were a nice surprise as it was nice, clean and quiet. There is a grand piano in the corner, so I wonder if there are live music nights. It's a nice place to go if you want a quiet dinner. Our server was Mark and if you saw any of the other reviews, Mark does not disappoint. He was very helpful without being pushy. He checked on us but wasn't hovering. He gave suggestions in a knowledgeable manner. My friend and I went on a Friday evening around 5:30pm and it wasn't very busy but more people slowly flowed in as we were eating. We had the bread basket with focaccia, whipped ricotta, tomato jam and garlic butter and it was really good (we were also relatively hungry ). For main, we got Nonna's Spaghetti/Pasta and the meatballs were well flavored and tender. Per Mark's suggestion, we also got the Rigatoni with lamb and short ribs in it and that was flavorful and hearty. For a protein option, we ordered the salmon and both of us really enjoyed this option. The salmon was tender with a slightly crispy exterior while the center maintained juicy. It was well seasoned and the veggies and onions that came with it were also very delightful and provided a wonderful crunch. All in all, we would definitely go again. For non alcoholic drinks, they have unsweetened/sweet tea (depending on what they have available that day) and a mocktail that Mark is excited about as he was responsible for it (I think). We attended a Yelp event catered by Mercado Mio. With 60 attendees, everyone was more than satisfied with the food and service provided by this fine establishment. Anthony, the Maître D', gave an introductory speech and a toast to kick off the banquet. Five courses were served, each paired with a thoughtfully selected wine and prefaced by Anthony. The head chef, an impressive 27-year-old from NJ, along with two sous-chefs, handled all the food that evening. Five waitstaff members, two of whom also tended bar during the cocktail hour, provided impeccable service. My son, who has a tree-nut allergy, was well-cared for by our waiter, who ensured any dish containing nuts was substituted. We're truly grateful for their attentiveness. The cocktail break room was nicely set up and inviting. Live piano music by Bob Barry set the perfect mood throughout the evening. As for the food, the freshly baked focaccia with tomato jam & whipped ricotta was phenomenal. Pesto pasta butternut squash salad was refreshing. Shaved Brussels sprouts with bacon was addicting. The main course, duck breast in chutney with garlic mashed potato... I needed more of that heavenly goodness! Finally, Tiramisu for dessert which was the only miss for me in terms presentation and also the lady fingers was tough (which is the only thing not made in house btw), but still tasted amazing. I heard a lot of good things about this place and was excited to try it but unfortunately I was quite disappointed. I almost never write a negative review but there are some things I wish I had known before going. At first glance the restaurant seems very attractive. I had a reservation and when the host took us to our table I immediately said no! The restaurant had only one other table used, and he tried to put us in the corner right in front of the kitchen door! He apologized and said he just takes people to the table the computer assigns. Once seated at another location I couldn't help but notice how dated the decor was. Worn carpet, drapes with gold tassels, plastic plate chargers ( mine was torn) and a dead fly on the window sill. We ordered the focaccia bread to start. It was ok, tasty but nothing special. My husband had the mushroom risotto which was very good. It was, however, more like a stew and not the consistency of a typical risotto. I had the shrimp with the lemon sauce. The pasta was good but the lemon flavor was too overwhelming for me and the shrimp were rubbery. read more

Nice spot in the Penn Harris Hotel in the space formerly occupied by the hotel restaurant. Actually, I guess it IS the hotel restaurant! My companion and I sat at the bar, which is a kind of an odd windowless space off the main restaurant. Our bartender, Lindsey, was super friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the Nonna's meatballs appetizer which were freakin' outrageous. The main dining room has a nice view and can be a pleasant spot for an evening meal. I was kinda joking to my wife as I told her I would take her out when I got home at 7. She showed up at the door to greet me all dolled up and sexy . There was no way I could back out of going to dinner now . I randomly selected Mercato Mio as a last ditch effort to act like I had reservations and put thought into my selection . I didnt . My wife , looking hot ....poo pood the selection on the way ...she never heard of it ...why Mercato ? What are their reviews like ...etc etc . Well when we walked on we immediately felt at home as both the server and manager were very welcoming. They sat is at a large window with a view of the mountains and the Route 15 bypass(lol) . The appetizer we ordered was the bread with 3 dipping sauces. El Vino did flow . As the night got longer I was tempted to book a room at the Penn Harris but the wife was appalled at my suggestion. I'm not sure anyone could find this place unless they were specifically looking for it . Restaurant is tucked away in the back of a large hotel. Food was decent, not spectacular. Meatball starter was very good, pasta main course had ok flavor, but was a little overcooked. I like my pasta al dente, and this was definitely not it. The cannolis for dessert was actually the best part of the meal. Service was good, but we were literally the only customers in the restaurant at 5pm on a Saturday. A solid choice if you happen to be staying in the hotel, but otherwise there are better alternatives that are a lot easier to find. read more

First of all, the inside of the restaurant is beautiful..warm and comfortable but very classy. Second, the wait staff was so sweet and described everything we asked about. Thirdly, the drinks were beautifully combined concoctions (I had the Spiced Orchard Sangria) But ultimately, it's about the food which was DELICIOUS!!! We were there for a wedding rehearsal dinner. The cocktails were OK. My Dirty Vodka Martini wasn't dirty, but the glass was chilled. Not a good buy for $15. The pear salad was delicious, but my grilled chicken was dry, and was served with a side of arugala, and some kind of diced squash. I ate about half of it. I will start out with the positive- our drinks were decent. Most of the menu item drinks were on the sweet side. The appetizer was good - antipasto. The main dishes were just simply a cream filled mess. Seriously, the lasagna was unrecognizable as lasagna and the scampi and the gnocchi were simply a bowl of creamy soupy mess - very little protein. We hardly ate any of it and the waitress didn't ask if we wanted a box so I'm sure a lot of uneaten food is the norm. read more

I rarely write reviews, but this experience was bad enough that I feel obligated to warn people. From the moment we walked in, the place had all the attitude of a "fancy" restaurant without any of the service or quality to back it up. The staff acted like customers were an inconvenience rather than the reason the restaurant exists. Our server disappeared for long stretches of time, I went to the bathroom looking for him, found him by his shoes in a stall, and he was hitting what smelled like a weed pen, drinks took forever, and getting basic things like refills felt like pulling teeth. The manager didn't make things any better. Instead of addressing problems, she seemed irritated that anyone would dare bring them up. Her attitude was almost worse than her breath. It was also bizarre to see her fraternizing with the male server. Watching how the staff interacted with each other made it clear professionalism wasn't exactly a priority here. For a place that clearly wants to present itself as upscale Italian dining, the experience felt chaotic and poorly run. Between the slow service, the indifferent attitude, and the general lack of attention to guests, the whole night felt like a waste of time and money. There are plenty of Italian restaurants that actually care about their customers. I'd strongly recommend choosing one of those instead. read more

The service was great. our waiters name was Mark and he was amazing. But the overall experience with the food was very disappointing. I ordered the Nonna dish and the sauce tastes just like chef boyardee. So bad!! They are extremely pricey! You do not get any sides with your meal. No bread no salad...just your entree. For $28 for a bowl of chef boyardee pasta is just unbelievable. I would never go back to eat there. read more

The pasta entrees were very underwhelming and soup-like. Way too much cream in these dishes. Also, the majority of their cocktails are sweet or dessert cocktails. Cocktails are overpriced for this area ($16-$18). Service was very slow. Entire dinner service eclipsed 2 hours. Asked for a check without hearing any dessert options. August 2024 We started with the meat ball appetizer. I rarely experience a three meat meat ball this tender. The tomato sauce was spicy which added a positive to this experience. I had the Gemelli which had a lemon, white wine and garlic sauce. It was good but they could have tightened the sauce just a little more of course that's just me being me. My bride had the Rigatoni a lamb and short rig ragu cooked with Pancetta and Veal Stock. What I tasted was exceptional. This is my 3rd year staying at this hotel. The past 2 years have been the best with Lindsey and Molly! I bring between 7-10 employees down every year for the GAOS and have multiple rooms for 11+ nights. We take clients out to dinner every night and like to come back to the bar to have a drink after. Lindsey has always taken great care of us over the past 2 years. The manager, Kerry, threw us out almost every night and then proceeded to pour a drink for a waiter. The one night she said "Okay everyone out, I need to get these girls, Lindsey and Molly, out of here." There was about 15 people in the bar. That waiter sat down and she poured him a beer while we were all leaving. How does the make any sense? So most nights we just went to the room and brought our own drinks since this hotel bar is one of the worst we have ever seen. It took us 3 hotels to find this one and we loved it and now im afraid we may have to find yet another new one if things dont straighten up. read more

This hidden gem was absolutely delicious. Both the bartender and the host/server gave us great recommendations and they nailed it. Our Beef Carpaccio appetizer and pasta dishes were excellent, and portions are large, we had plenty for another meal the next day.' The service was excellent. I ordered the salmon. It was overcooked and over dressed with stuff. Did not enjoy it at all. Overpriced for the quality of the food. At the end of our meal our server never mentioned dessert. We've been here several times with old friends and family. The menu will have something for everyone and any choice will be exceptional.
