Merci Market. What can I say? I have been here more times than I feel comfortable admitting. Largely because I'm seeing someone that lives around the block but I digress. They're open 24 hours is the catch. They make a mean sandwich. The prices of their sandwiches are different pretty much every day, depending on what cashier and sandwich guy I get. I appreciate when it's under $8. I usually end up getting grilled chicken on a hero with muenster cheese, spinach, avocado, and a schmear of mayo. This is a very specified request. But I've tried other sandwich combinations and I have to admit, his choice is usually better than mine.Their beer prices are insane. You're better off going to Trader Joes or Walgreens but neither of those are open past 10pm . . . . so you're left with Merci's $17-18 six packs. Holy s***. Balls. Snacks - interesting variety! I also recently drunkenly accidentally purchased $7 chocolate peanut butter covered banana bites. They were delicious. I was sorry to disappoint the grandfatherly man behind the counter who asked if I was Korean, but he was nice about it. Merci Market is pretty bling for a bodega. They have all sorts of rare and crazy imported chocolates such that when someone excitedly tells me about the Kinder Surprise they've brought back from Germany, I can be all blase and worldly like, eh, they have that at the deli downstairs. Which is somewhat of a buzzkill re my friend's $3000 vacation. The fresh fruit is sometimes pockmarked and the salad bar is a little pricey (and black flies sometimes take up residence on the artichoke slices late at night), but the general selection is wide and the service is good. read more

I'm a fan mainly because it's close to me. The beer prices are typical for the area and they have typical bodega items with a souped-up deli that looks worth a buy. I will only speak to the coffee, which was HORRIFIC. Worst coffee I've had since I accidentally poured salt into a cup of espresso blend that had been sitting in my coffee maker for an hour too long. My girlfriend ordered a different flavored coffee and it was CRAPTASTIC in a whole new way. I can only review the salad bar, because it's the only part of what appears to be a very cute store that I have taken advantage of. In a quest to find a salad bar (in that they take the ingredients I ask for and make a salad out of it) that can compare to the increasingly incomparable Garden City Deli on 43rd St., I tried Merci Market based on some of the reviews on Yelp. And based on what I was looking for, they have it. There's a little salad that's not too expensive that includes five toppings (which is one short of what I usually get). There's unfortunately not a large version of the salad (even if it cost more) and extra toppings are $1.50 each (which is a bit steep). It's not bad, and significantly cheaper than the $9.25 version of the same salad at Due Amici on 14th St. (which is the closest one to me). So, I continue searching. I wonder if Garden City Deli will deliver 30 blocks away? Somehow I doubt it. read more

This place should be called NO MERCI MARKET. I went to buy tomatoes today. After picking through all of the mushy ones I found four that were not over ripe. I got to the counter to pay and I did not meet the $7 credit card minimum. I figured it was okay, because in the past they have allowed me to use my debit card. However, today she would not allow me. It literally blows my mind that she would do this. Especially since everything in the establishment is overpriced and my four tomatoes was probably close to the $7 limit. With that said, I am never going to this place again. I would rather walk a few blocks and go to a Fairway or Whole Foods. At least if I am going to buy overpriced produce/groceries they will be fresh and allow me to use my credit/debit card. As a side note, I live across the street, and for the past five years I have spent hundreds of dollars in this establishment. The place looks nice, has a decent selection, plays classical music, yet the asian man and woman that are often behind the counter are rude. I go to Merci Market to pick up lunch several times a week. They have a great sandwich selection (including wraps and paninis), and I frequently order salads at their extensive salad bar as well. I have never had a problem with the staff -- they have always been friendly, welcoming, and helpful. (I have, however, seen some very rude, unnecessarily demanding, and impatient customers order the staff around to a degree I found appalling.) If I ever change jobs and am no longer in the area, I'll miss stopping by for lunch and to say hi! read more

The food is very good for pre made, always fresh, the salads are amazing and made for you and the food to order is always good, nice choices for bread or rolls and they can make anything quickly. The fresh fruit is awesome too and always fresh as well. And their flowers are THE best ..... lots of choice , freshly cut and not expensive. Their vegan/gluten free healthy snack choices are vast and so is their ice cream / frozen yogurt section ..... yum ! This is my go-to market. I started going here because it was convenient location wise, but soon realized they were better than most of the others. Their prices are high, but then most bodegas and Korean markets are. When I run out of the cat food from my normal place, I pay double here. The salad bar is fresh and they make good sandwiches. The flowers are great. I find the guys at the sandwich counter/salad bar to be extremely friendly and polite. The people at the cash register are nice, One woman is very friendly, (asks how my family is, etc) while the men sometimes act like they've never seen me before - not rude or anything - but a little surprising since I've been shopping here for about 7 years and I go in to shop about 4-5 times a week. read more

I walked in thinking how good can an omelette be in a small corner market? I had the mushroom and onion omelette with avocados. Unbelievably good!
