What an incredible business Ian and his team are running with Mercury Heating and Air. There is a reason Mercury has 5 stars on Yelp. Our furnace recently went down and was not blowing hot air, leaving our house less than 60 degrees inside and getting colder. We called the original installer (not Mercury) of the furnace to take a look and see if he could fix it. Couldn't figure out the problem but said he would replace the motor and pressure switches for $2,000 after looking at the unit a bit. He then told us we should consider installing a heat pump, so we decided to get quotes from several companies to install one. Ian was the only that asked us "do you actually want to replace it?" instead of immediately trying to sell us a new unit. Even just speaking with him over the phone for a few minutes, he showed just how knowledgeable he was and what questions we needed to ask the other sales reps. I dont regret it Ian and Jason were on time to arrive and finished the job on schedule. Ian even suggested I don't need to buy some other things a friend recommended. Ian wanted to come by Thursday or Friday. I told him Friday was better. He suggested he come Thursday because if he doesn't finish the job Thursday, which might be the case, he could finish on Friday where if he came on Friday, he wouldn't finish until Monday. Ian replaced a furnace at a rental property last year and I do not have any complaints about his workmanship. Unfortunately I was out of town with elderly parents when he called for payment at the completion of the job. I was helping my father climb down some steep stairs and asked if I could call back in 10-15 minutes to give my credit card information to him. Ian was very impatient and and practically demanded payment immediately. I was stunned at how rude he was considering all his positive reviews. I might have caught him on a bad day, but what it almost sounded like he prejudged me and thought I was trying to not pay for his services. Of course, during one of the coldest weeks we had here recently, my 30 year aged Heating system decided to stop working. I did some testing and believed I knew what the issues was so I started calling around to see who could assist and help get my wife her heat back. At the recommendation of a neighbor, I called Mercury. Ian answered right away and responded to my house later that day like an artic hero; restoring the sweet, cool breeze to my home. Fast forward to this year. My furnace was 23 years old. I didn't want it to go out at an inopportune time. I called Mercury and set up an appointment to have them come look at my system. Ian arrived on time and laid out my options. I was in that awkward time of my furnace being on its last legs and the a/c being middle aged. Ian provided me all my options. I don't think you can even call Ian low pressure. He's no pressure. He gave me my options and answered all my questions. Never once did I feel like he was being pushy. I got such a good vibe from Ian, I didn't get other quotes. I felt like he was my big brother looking out for me. Install day arrived and Jason showed up right on time and got started. Mercury Heating and Air did an excellent job reviewing our existing furnace and AC system which had broken down, and then replacing it with a heat pump. They recommended adding an additional return duct which is required for the new system. None of the other companies we received estimates from mentioned this requirement. They did a great job, were very polite, and did not charge us for additional required work not specified in the contract while installing the new system. They were hard working and kept us abreast of progress. They also did a great job of cleaning up each day when they were done. The owner (Ian) was very knowledgeable and explained everything so that I could understand what was going on. They mentioned that many other companies perform the installation but don't consider the system maintenance and repair during the installation. As a result, according to Ian, many times the installers have piping and other items blocking the furnace access door which doesn't allow the door to be removed causing a simple maintenance problem to skyrocket into a major problem because these blockages have to be removed and re-installed after the maintenance or repair is completed at a much higher cost. The other technicians - Jessie and Jacob were also very polite and helpful. I had a fantastic experience with Jason from Mercury Heating & Air who installed a new furnace and air conditioning for our home recently. I wanted to wait a few months prior to providing a review. I was first introduced to Mercury 3 years ago when I noticed an unusual smell coming from our vents. I contacted them via Yelp to schedule an inspection and unit diagnostic and it turned out we had a rodent issue in our crawl space! While this was alarming to hear I am glad we ruled out any issues with our unit and thanks to Mercury they recommended we contact an animal control company that specializes in rodent proofing and clean up in attics & crawl spaces (I left a separate Yelp review for the company for those that are interested). During that inspection, Mercury also did us the favor of assessing the performance of our 20-year-old unit and informed us that it was on its last leg and to start preparing for a new install when the time was right. Fast-forward to 3 months ago our heater died in the midst of the severe rain storms and cold. Mercury came out quickly to provide repair and replacement options in a calm and informative way. I didn't feel pressured at all. Jason took the time to answer all my questions via phone/text and outline specific line items on a professional estimate. Four days ago I awoke to a cold wintery morning, and turned on my 25-year old furnace. I was surprised to find that after an hour, the temperature in my home had not risen. I checked the furnace in the garage and found that while the fan was running, the furnace burners had not turned on. I immediately looked for an HVAC repair company on Yelp to find one to call. I found that Mercury Heating and Air had a nearly perfect 5-star rating over more than 150 satisfied clients. After carefully reading dozens of the most recent reviews to ascertain that these were genuine, I called and left a message for them to come to my home to diagnose the problem and propose a solution. Within 20 minutes, Ian returned my call and set up an appointment for a home visit an hour later. He arrived in less time than that, opened the front of the furnace, tested the electrical control unit, and determined that a replacement of that unit would be necessary. We discussed the cost, and the financial pros and cons of replacing the old furnace and air-conditioner with new Goodman models that would be more efficient, and last the rest of our lifetime. We have a poorly-installed and very neglected furnace up in the attic that, when paired with a new smart thermostat, started acting the fool. I reached out to five HVAC service companies simultaneously via Yelp, and three auto responded, one came at me with a $59 diagnostic fee (waived if hired for service), and then there's Ian from Mercury who coached me through some DIY fixes, trying to talk himself out of an easy diagnostic service fee. We had some back and forth and an unsuccessful attempt to repair the issue myself, and twenty minutes into the two-hour service window on the same day, Ian was knocking on my front door. When we had an issue with our AC unit not producing cool air, we reached out to Mercury Heating and Air on Yelp and Ian immediately respond, which I really appreciated. Initially he was fully booked and couldn't fit us into his schedule, but later in the afternoon he called to inform us that another customer canceled so he offered to come by if we still needed the service. We did, and so we said yes. Ian was first off really knowledgable and was able to identify the issue with our central AC system really quickly. It turned out our AC had a leak so it was completely flat and out of refrigerant. He walked us through the entire process and provided us with some options and recommendations. After discussing options with him, we decided to replace the entire unit, and in the meantime till the replacement arrives, he refilled our current system with refrigerant - and voila, we got cool air again. Ian was easy to work with, highly personable, and when we asked him to put on booties over his boots inside our home, he gladly accommodated our request. It was a big deal for me personally, so it was a huge plus! He was really pleasant to work with. His service was $89 and the new refrigerant cost $361, so his total fee was $450. The very next day we found out that we actually had a home warranty that would cover for this AC issue and so we called Ian, explained the situation, and regrettably had to cancel our order of the new AC unit. He was very understanding of the whole situation. I highly recommend Mercury Heating and Air if you have any issues with your AC units. They replaced our furnace and added an air-conditioner in our home in Moraga and I am very happy with their workmanship and professionalism! We called Mercury when our 25 year old furnace started failing over the holiday break. Ian came out the same day. He was polite, gave an assessment of options (fix or replace), and did NOT push one over the other. He asked lots of questions, he looked over our PG&E bill to give perspective on what we were already paying, and in the end, he respected my decision to fix rather than replace. Unfortunately, 25 years was too much. After 12 hours of service, as well as having his partner Jason consult, the heater still wasn't working even with the replacement part. After that, Ian still only offered to try a new replacement part the following day rather than push for another option. My wife and I finally decided just to replace the furnace. Ian patiently explained the options and differences in prices without pushing me one way or another. I never had the feeling he was trying to convince me to spend more than what I was comfortable with or try upsell me. I picked a single stage 96% efficiency heater and 14 seer AC unit. Ian quickly looked up stock and scheduled us for the very next day since we no longer had a furnace working during our current cold weather.
