Mercy Me is such a cute, trendy bagel shop located in West End, DC! The owner is the face behind Call Your Mother and Timber Pizza Co. The actual coffee shop is hugeee. There are plenty of seats inside as well as their outdoor patio. Not to mention, it is aestheically pleasing from their ambiance to their coffee cups and bags. We ordered the MIA and EZE bagel sandwiches. They were very unique! The EZE had smoked salmon topped with pickled red onion and chimichurri cream cheese. The sweet and smokey flavors were so delicious-- definitely not your typical bagel sandwich! The MIA was stuffed with pickled carrots, red cabbage and onions topped with a cilantro cream cheese. The positive part of this rating is mostly because of the manager's customer service (at least I think he was the manager. I forget his name but he was so nice!) Everything else was pretty...basic. He seated me quickly and then my server came. Since I came solo, I ordered my drink, appetizer and main at the same time. My appetizer, the pappardelle, came out first and was a bit bland. It definitely needed some seasoning. My drink came out and it was good. Then I waited for my main. And waited. AND WAITED. After a while, someone came to see if I needed anything else and I told them I was waiting for my main, but my server had never come back! He looked confused and walked away and then another server came to verify my order. It seemed like the first server had never put my order in! My moqueca came and was just ok. It also could've benefited from some salt and seasoning. I ordered a dessert but I didn't care for it. I went back two more times since my first review. The lox bagel is omg to die for - just needs an egg on top, which I hear they're bringing soon. Today I had lunch there with a friend and ordered the tacos. The tacos tasted fine (not spectacular), but to be honest, I was disappointed by the presentation. They give them to you rolled up in aluminum foil like a gas station or McDonald's presentation which ruined the vibe for me. Maybe it's just a COVID thing? Please reconsider how you serve them. The pastries are indeed amazing. But the wait and the system just needs ironing out. We put in an order for one taco, one breakfast sandwich, coffee and a pastry via the provided QR code. It said it would be ready in 30 min. Seemed a long time for a few items but we were relaxed. 50 min later, I finally found that my order had been lost. The manager did rush it and threw in a couple extra pastries. However that's still almost an hour wait for something that should take only a few minutes. I'd also say candidly that the squash breakfast taco was not good. Totally mushy and lacked any real flavor. I love the vibe and I loved my pastry filled with dulce de leche. So here we are 1 month later, and dreams were answered as they opened for BRUNCH! In terms of COVID, there is indoor seating, as well as patio seating in the back. The front patio is reserved for the grab-n-go section of Mercy Me. I risked it for the biscuit with indoor dining because I sweat like a monster, and I do not regret it. There are huge accordion-style windows that they opened up so it was as if you were outside, but you still got a nice breeze of AC. Do not @me about the environment in support of this outdoor AC situation. Its a pandemic - we can't go anywhere so at least let us have AC. The menu has something for everyone. The menu felt familiar in dishes, but they put a nice "south american-ish" twist on it, which made them oh so good. I got The Dip, and I loved it. Instead of roast beef, it was grilled sirloin that I was 100% all about. My other favorite from the meal was dessert. I loved the soft serve, and we also got the bread pudding french toast that was...**chefs kiss**... amazing. I would 100% recommend this place for brunch. My only feedback is that when I walked in, I had no clue where to go, who to talk to, and that kind of led me to feeling overwhelmed, but probably more a me problem lol read more

This popular place gets really crowded on the weekends, so it's better to reserve in advance. Almost everyone eating at the restaurant had one (but also note to list eating indoors). Since we didn't note that we were seated outside in the patio. It was a bit noisy and windy because there were big fans to blow away all the bugs, while playing some music in the background. The fan was directly hitting me so I asked to move the table or something and they accommodated. So they are helpful in assisting and check up frequently on the diners. 4.5 out of 5 Ordered: Baked eggs - $16.50 not including tax A large potion so it's great for sharing for two. It is basically a shakshuka that comes with a cilantro sauce and pan de yuca. The pan de yuca was firm and solid on the outside with a nice, slightly chewy and sweet inside. Loved the pastry (it was not too oily) and it was great to pair with the tomato base meal. The eggs were poached and runny so those who like soft boiled eggs will enjoy a lot. The tomato base I believe had some eggplant and plantain in it, had nice variety and texture. I guess the inability to relocate tables indoors despite the early reservation (reserved 2+ weeks in advance) and firm seating arrangement is a bit unfortunate. And the utensils having some watermarks/residue was a bit noticeable, but overall the service and food is evidence to the restaurant's popularity. read more

This was our first time dining out while we have a world-wife pandemic. I TRULY appreciated how clean and safe I felt with the staff for our brunch date. Each table was 6ft apart or more. The patio was open and didn't feel overcrowded. The frozen drinks, charcuterie, and pastries were ALL delicious! Mercy Me is an overall solid brunch spot in the Dupont Circle area with some pretty fun food and cocktails options. I really enjoyed my drink and the pancakes I got. Everything tasted pretty darn good! The space is absolutely gorgeous although I found it a tad bit confusing to navigate because of the layout but eventually found myself a seat at the bar. Also I will say the menu is fairly small so not the type of place to bring friends with dietary restrictions. Overall worth a try and I definitely want to try their little coffee stand the next time I'm in the area. read more

This restaurant was just 'ok'. I was expecting a lot more for the price and for the overall aesthetic. 1star is for the immaculate decor, the 2nd star is for our super amazing server who's name we're forgetting atm but she's blonde. She was a super star server, we really enjoyed her service. However, the food was just "meh". Their special for the night included lime calamari for $21 and it was pretty plain. It was hard to pinpoint a flavor for the croquettes and it was just overall under seasoned or not seasoned correctly. The yucca fries were alright, nothing special. The side salad was drowned in dressing--bleh. The adobo chicken was alright, the glaze wasn't bad but again, somehow under seasoned. It was cooked pretty well though. The drinks were just really lack luster too. We had the chocolate cream puff dessert and it was impossible to eat. We couldn't crack into it with the spoon. We definitely would not return or recommend it to anyone. We were deceived by the beautiful atmosphere. Their food is described as "sort of South American" and honestly it was just more "North American trying to mimic South American food." Maybe their breakfast is better but we wouldn't come back to find out. We had brunch at Paraisio Taqueria earlier this day and it was incredible. It was just as aesthetically pleasing and the prices were very reasonable and their food was flavorful and delicious. I wanted to say a huge thank you to the staff of mercy me for a wonderful birthday party. During the COVID pandemic I moved abroad and came back to celebrate my birthday. My fav spots for a big party had closed or changed too much to be doable. A friend suggested Mercy Me and it was a great choice. The service was incredibly good, Gus was helpful in setting up logistics and they were very kind when we have several cancellations due to COVID on the day. Our waiter was attentive and fun - even with our group who wanted to catch up badly. I adored the food and drinks. The spicy marg was delicious and I loved my ceviche and tostados (they are so creative!). Everyone was happy with their food and enjoyed it. It can be scary having a gathering at a place you've never been to but Mercy Me made it perfect. Thank y'all again for a great night, we hope to be back when we are next in DC! read more

Really cool ambience and I love that this place is set up more like a lounge versus a restaurant. The chairs were super comfy and the drinks were good but not that strong. The service was also incredibly slow for them to not be that busy on a Saturday night. That was kind of annoying. However the food was pretty good, nothing amazing but good. It was very healthy at least everything that we ordered to try. I like that they start you off with some spicy popcorn that was amazing! We tried the Dino tacos which are made out of quinoa and were actually surprisingly good. They were crunchy and flavorful. Also tried the ceviche which was probably my favorite, it was so fresh! They also give you a pretty big serving for this dish. Tried the meat and cheese board and since I don't eat pork I just picked at the cheese which was OK but two of the cheeses I did not like at all. The beef tenderloin skewers were served kind of cold so that was gross. They would have been better if they were fresh but the flavor was there they just needed to be served hot. They also could've been a little bit more tender. For dessert I tried the banana pudding which was a definite stand out! It was so light and flaky and ice cream served with it was delicious. Alright, finally Mercy Me has opened and it's showing no mercy to my tastebuds. This place is incredible. They're both a fast casual bagel/breakfast/coffee/pastry spot, and a massive brunch (and soon dinner) restaurant. The flair is South American-ish but everything is very accessible. I've tried the EZE and the GIG bagels, both fantastic. These are the same bagels from Call Your Mother, which are my favorite in the city. The pastries are the best I've ever seen, with the guava croissant and pineapple empanada being my favorites. We came for brunch on their first weekend and I wanted literally everything on the menu. Based on a rec from the owner, I got the Hen and Pancakes, which was great. Sweetish and savory corn and green onions pancakes with a sweet and smoky syrup. The hen was fried perfectly; dope rendition of chicken and waffles. The wife got The Dip, a steak sandwich with a spicy slaw. It came with a spicy aioli of sorts for dipping in addition to au jus. The more sauces, the better so they get extra points for having a strong sauce game. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Amazing furniture, great decor, perfect patio. One of my favorite restaurants decor-wise, with tables, couches chairs, you name it. I can't wait to try everything. Make a brunch rez or just grab a bagel. You can't go wrong here. Looked like a fun vibe but unfortunately the staff is impossible to work with. Some coworkers and I were trying to find an outdoor spot for a going away happy hour. A friend of a friend works there, so I asked who to speak to about an event. Even as an employee, he said he had no idea, and that I should call. I called, and was told from the prerecorded voicemail to email. So I emailed, and no reply. I called three more times over the next two days and wasn't able to speak to a member of the staff despite multiple attempts. At one point, I was put through to the hotel receptionist, who took down my info and said the entire events team was in a meeting and they would give me a call back by the end of the day. You guessed it, no call back. The following day I FINALLY got ahold of the manager after going through the receptionist again, and he told me they might be having a private party on the patio the night we wanted to come, but he would give me a call back by the end of the day to let me know. Again, no call back. I learned at the going away happy hour, which we were fortunately able to host elsewhere, that a coworker's friend had planned her wedding at the hotel the restaurant and had to break the contract based on the staff's inability to communicate at all. It seems to run throughout the restaurant also. With so many other great places in dc, this one is going to the bottom of my list of places to try. read more

I'm starting to become a regular here. Came for another dinner and was wowed by the adobo chicken with grits. They were out of the usual grits so they gave me coconut ones. I don't normally enjoy coconut, but I said yes--and I'm SO glad I did. They were the highlight of the meal! Creamy, flavorful, and the perfect side to well-flavored, saucy chicken. While staying at the Yours Truly hotel, we were fortunate to try Mercy Me for Sunday brunch. The vibe of the space is amazing, service on point and food absolutely delicious. I had the sourdough pancakes (banana pancakes with salted dulce de leche maple syrup and toasted hazelnuts) Im pretty sure these were the BEST PANCAKES I HAVE EVER HAD. Very filling, I was only able to finish half. 10/10 recommend both the hotel and restaurant. They even bought out a complimentary amuse-bouche from their new dinner/bar menu. I went here for brunch 10/24 with party of 6. We ordered around 11am, food came at 12:06. Someone else came to apologize for the delay but didn't offer anything like free fries or pastries. We all got Dulce de Leche pancakes for the table- it was thick and fluffy but was very dry, I think it would be better if the sauce soaked in for like a few minutes or given a side of butter and syrup. The baked eggs dish- it sounded so good but tasted like an underwhelming shakshuka with too much smoked paprika. 5/6 of us got this dish and we didn't like that the eggs were basically hard boiled (not soft boiled and not runny). The peach salad was tasty though although had like 3 slices of peach. Our waiter was only nice when he brought the tip back. Restaurant decor is nice, cute tables and chairs. Meh. Clubby vibe, so be warned. Staff felt a little snooty. It's expensive for what you get. The drinks were pretty good, except that my buddy went to the bar when we first arrived and got a double margarita, and they called security when he took offense and dressed down the bartender after being charged almost $50. I tasted the drink, and it certainly did not taste like a double. Anyway, after we sorted that out, our waiter just seemed annoyed with us, even though we were clearly spending money. I guess that is what happens when the wait staff is guaranteed an included 22% tip, no matter the service (to cover "high wages," we were told, smdh). That said, the mushrooms were killer! Loved them. Ordered seconds. The shishito peppers were ... different. Not my favorite, but maybe I prefer the normal preparation. The ceviche was OK, but if you're a Peruvian restaurant, you need to get the leche de tigre right. OK doesn't cut it at these prices. My buddy dug the pork ribs. They looked tasty. Had a bite of the cobia, too. That chimichurri is special. The cobia was just all right, though. Maybe it's more of a place to stunt on the 'Gram than to actually eat. read more

I had my wedding ceremony and reception at Mercy Me/ Yours Truly last year (2021). It was an amazing experience. Everything was great and our guests still rave about the food. If I could, I would have rated the restaurant 10 stars. So for our 1 year anniversary, we thought it would be enjoyable to back to Mercy Me for dinner. We were wrong. We were sat a few minutes earlier than our planned reservation (this was the only good part) but ended up waiting 30-35 minutes before a server stopped at our table. When the server arrived, we were immediately met with an attitude. Like we were an inconvenience and it was our fault for being sat in their section. We did not pick our table. We were escorted there by the host. Since we had gotten our own drinks from the bar during the 30 min wait, we were told by the server to just have dinner at the bar. We said no thank you, we'd like to have dinner at the table. We then placed an order for a starter. It came out under cooked and it was not very good. We decided to throw in the towel and have our anniversary dinner at another restaurant. It's very disappointing to see how much the restaurant has declined in a year's time. We will cherish the experience we had in 2021 but I'm afraid we will be staying away from Mercy Me moving forward. read more

I've had mercy me several times now and have ordered the rockfish on those occasions. Wow, the food is phenomenal. The coconut rice is so tasty and the rockfish with the curry is really delicious. 15/10 recommend. I've also tried the Colombian empanadas, which were good. The pandemic probably impacted the staffing. It took an hour to get a waiter to pick up our order. Then 30 minutes for the food to come. I asked for ketchup, and it took another 30 minutes for the waiter to walk by, get reminded, and another 10 minutes to get the ketchup. Mercy me needs better staffing... read more

This restaurant has a beautiful ambiance and great customer service. The staff is kind and friendly and the aesthetic is great for pictures. Now let's get to the food. Steak and Eggs with hot fries- I asked for the steak to be medium well and it came out well done and looked very pale in color on the inside. I took it back and when it came out for a 2nd time it was well done, but didn't taste good at all. It completely lacked flavor. The hot fries, however were very delicious. The fried hen and pancakes were okay but the portion was so small. The Pancakes were basically bite size and it was an odd taste with it having corn and green onions inside. It was a disappointment to say the least. Sourdough pancakes were very good and filling. We wanted to love this restaurant but it was lacking food wise. I don't recommend. read more

One of the best new spots to open in 2020. They are a hotel location, so the space is enormous, with massive seating areas, a huge bar, a front patio, and a back patio. You order at the counter and pick your seating. During the day it's cafe style, with coffee and tea along with pastries, sandwiches, chia bowls, bagels, etc. Personal faves include the chicken and mishroom pastry and the banana monkey bread. They also have cocktails in the evening, but I haven't tried that yet. Very intrigued, though! read more

I unfortunately went on a cooler night and the experience was a little ruined by being outside but after eating the staff moved us inside which I really appreciated. I definitely think that that was super sweet of them to do once a lounge area opened up. The interior decorator is really pretty. My only gripe would be it feels a tad overpriced, however I understand for the area and post-covid it makes sense. read more
