Wow!!! Incredible, flavor explosion food!! Stopped by for lunch at 11 am today and got the pork Sisig tacos, okonomiyaki Brussels sprouts and the longganisa loco moco. We had the calamansi lemonade. Tart and sweet. Lots more to try and everything was cooked fresh and served hot! I honestly can't say what I liked best. I'll probably go again during my trip to try more. Everything is so delicious!!

Every item here at a Merienda Maui food truck was delicious. The only mistake we made was not eating here sooner, since we would have returned to try more of the menu. We selected two types of tacos, the Shrimp and the Thai Beef Tacos. The shrimp tacos are served with a cabbage slaw, a ginger sesame dressing (not a strong flavor), gochujang aioli (dominant flavor that worked well with the shrimp), and some pickled red onions on top. Somewhat simple but all flavors combine well, the shrimp stands out with the aioli, and it has a tropical sense to it. The Thai Beef Tacos use a Thai marinade on the beef (sourced from Maui, though I couldn't tell the difference from regular beef in these chunks in a taco). Beyond that it's a common taco with a tomato salad (pico de gallo), jalapeño, cilantro, and mint (rather than a common diced onion pairing). The marinade infused into each piece of beef and truly carried the dish. I would have eaten it without the garnishes, though they do help fill out the taco. I also thought this was the most basic item we ordered, and would want to try out other items before repeating this. Lastly the Phili-bistek Sando with fries was the true star of the show. It reads as a cheesesteak with bell peppers and onions, and Mayo/chimichurri sauce on top. Yet I think this meat was also marinated, since I can't conceive how much umami was oozing from this burger. It is hands down the best cheesesteak I have every had...and I've been to Philadelphia. I found other recipes online that use a soy marinade to prepare the beef (tapa beef seems to be the Filipino name), and this sounds like it tasted. There was a lot of beef pieces, we shared the burger along 3 people, and I think that the circular shape made it seem larger than if it had been on a longer hoagie bread. Onion jam rather then regular onions would keep the tastebuds working, the Japanese Mayo would introduce both tangy and sweet flavors, and the chimichurri would add parsley, cilantro, and garlic notes. The burger was messy, but worth it. And the fries were extra crispy, similar to In-N-Out double fried fries but thicker. These work perfectly with just ketchup. We considered the Umami fries, which have gochijang and Mayo and Furikake at the same time, and I think all that sauce would reduce the crispiness of the fries. I would still try it, but the fries are top notch and a quick dip in ketchup is all that is needed. The Okonomiyaki Brussel sprouts also sound like an amazing Asian take on the vegetable and something to try next time.

*Chefs kiss* Mereinda Maui is a Asian fusion food truck in the same plaza as Lahaina Cannery. My grandpa, husband, and I came here after a day at the beach. We ordered the phili-bistek sandwich, Chinese 5 spiced pork, tocilog, and sisig tacos. They were all amazing!!! The phili-bistek sandwich was cheesy similar to a philly cheesesteak with a Filipino twist. This is definitely a place to try when in Maui. I would say after trying out different spots throughout the island, there are better food at the food trucks versus an actual brick and mortar.

We came upon Merienda after watching a YouTube video on Maui food. We decided to give it a try. The ambience was good, but I wish the food trucks weren't so close to each other; the smoke from the generators was annoying. The service was good. I had a Philly bistek sandwich, essentially their take on a Philly cheesesteak. The sandwich was delicious. Would definitely try again.

Friendly hard working people running this truck. Interesting blend of choices on the menu blending Filipino, Mexican, Japanese and korean flavors. All was tasty. Pork belly and rice, Bulgogi beef and according to our friends pork tacos, all great. Umami fries worth a try as are the thai beef tacos, but I thought the corn tacos kinda ruined it. Would rather it on salad or rice. Good value fresh choice though in Lahaina.

My husband and I were on our way to a poke place when I got unbelievably hangry and came upon a strip mall area with some food trucks. One of our main goals during our trip here in Maui is to experience food that we can not get anywhere else and Merienda did not disappoint!!! Their beef chow fun was amazing - they really made it their own special version and the flavors together was straight up addicting. I also loved the umami fries! The sauces and toppings went together so well!!! I am no longer hangry but extremely satisfied while also sad that we will not have this where we live. I hope they continue to do well and grow so we can find them again when we visit next time!!!

The best tacos I have ever eaten. I hope to go back and try some other menu items. I had the Thai beef tacos. Tasty beef, fresh tasty veggies, spiced perfection, nice corn shells, they were wonderful. Two for $9 great price.

Great food. Period. I found out about Merienda from YouTube and so glad I did. We got the Thai Beef Tacos which had great flavor and the Tocilog. Love a great food truck and this one didn't disappoint.

One of the better food trucks we tried in West Maui. Food: We tried the Phili-bistek sandwich. It came with the freshest fries - seasoned not exactly how we'd like, but it was unique, hot, fluffy on the inside, thin & crispy on the outside. The sandwich itself was delicious. No complaints. Service: Guy was personable, nice and funny during our short interaction. Food came out within

Food was delightful. We stopped by and asked for pupus, and they recommended the shrimp tacos which were simultaneously very flavorful yet also felt light. The umami fries were perfectly crisp and smothered in a creative combination of flavors I haven't experienced anywhere else. Also really enjoyed the mango and ube horchata drinks, and the service was very friendly.

Eh, ok but wouldn't return. We ordered the pork tacos, salt and pepper chicken, and the pork asado sandwich. We upgraded the fries to umami fries which were by far the best part of the meal. First of all, the food was presented nicely, but a complete mess to eat, so much so I had to go to Safeway after to wash my hands. I had to re assemble the sandwich multiple times because it was so wet it would not hold together. The tortillas also completely disintegrated when you took a bite of the tacos. I enjoyed the flavor of the pork belly in the sandwich more than the pork used in the tacos. The batter on the fried chicken was very thick and none of the three of us that tried it were a fan of the spice mixture used.

I was getting in a hangry mood, needed to get some food into my belly--but every eatery we came upon either had a long line or the menu didn't quite appeal to me. My son finally looked up a place on Yelp and found Merienda's food truck, I was so hungry, I just said "fine let's go there". Glad we did! The menu drew me in, I liked what saw on the board. Filipino food with Latin and Asian twists! There were four of us, we each ordered something different! I tasted each one--and my tastebuds and tummy were very happy with this food truck discovery! PORK SISIG TACOS - two tacos filled with delicious citrus soy marinated pork, Pinoy de gallo salsa and siriacha aioli--Flavor explosion, fantastic! SHRIMP TACOS - these were good but not over the top. The description gave me the hopes it would be over the top awesome, perhaps a char grill on the shrimp would add more to complexity to the flavor? BEEF CHOW FUN - first bite, my tastebuds lit up! The grilled smokiness in the tender Maui beef was excellent. Nice thick noodles with perfect density that I like . Flavor was on point! This was a great dish! Would order again! BEEF BULGOGI - Korean styled beef topped on garlic rice, half hard boiled egg, and salted cabbage, really good! LUMPIA STICKS - 3 for $12, wasn't sure what I'd get for that price--but since I love lumpia, was willing to take the chance! It did not disappoint! These pork filled lumpia were not small, like the ones I'm used to, these were long and large! Beautifully fried to a deep golden brown--they kept crispy and hot for a long time! The Nuoac Cham dipping sauce was a nice compliment, light and tangy! I almost didn't share these! Haha! We found a great spot near the water to eat and watch the sunset--Would most definitely come back!

Merienda is everything you want a food truck to be. Quality, hot, delish, and friendly. We enjoyed every bite. We had the sisig tacos. Fresh with all flavors represented. Amazing! Salt and pepper chicken was fab! The chicken was juicy and tender. Clearly marinated and the crusty fried coating had hints of seasonings I couldn't id but were amazing. We also had tocsilog. The pork belly made me weep it was so good. Achara on the side cleans your palate as you eat the delicious belly and rice. We finished with bibingka. It had am amazing sauce custard and toasted coconut topping. We are already planning our next trip. Keep it up Merienda... we love you!

I brushed this off when the hostess said she was going to try to sit us at one of the waterfront tables. After waiting for ~10 more minutes she apologized and said she couldn't find us a water front table but had something else ready for us. She proceeded to sit us at arguably the worst table in the restaurant. It was directly next to the kitchen so we were constantly being brushed by servers delivering food and it was facing the sun so my husband had to wear sunglasses for the entire meal. When we asked our waiter for a new table he joked around that the sun would eventually go behind the clouds. For the food, it's all so overpriced. The garlic noodles are fine but it's just noodles and garlic, I don't understand how it's $18. Our waiter was raving about the pork buns but we found them to be very dry and low effort with huge slabs of raw carrot inside. The miso butter fish is good and the saimin was our favorite dish. The food also all came out within a few minutes of ordering and I felt we didn't have time to truly enjoy the meal. Especially with the sun glaring in our faces. Overall I wouldn't recommend or return.

The waiter 'greets us', takes our drink menu, and leaves. He calls back to the other member of the staff, and says "you were right". His demeanor was cold, smug, and condescending. He was PUSHING a $185 8oz Wagyu steak like there was a prize for selling it. The menu is limited, but we made our selections outside of his "recommendations". The only bright spot in the meal was the assistant that helped our waiter throughout the meal. He was warm, engaging, funny, and all around a great human. He took his time, and asked us where we were from etc. The meal was good, but not great. The experience with the waiter aside. We ordered the chicken (2), noodles, and the up country salad. The food was fresh and flavorful, but not earth shattering. I still tipped the waiter over 20%, but I also made a point to find the assistant and tip him separately. We chose Ka'ana Kitchen for our final night to celebrate our niece's 15th birthday. Unfortunately, the way restaurant management handled a very simple wine issue completely derailed the evening. My father-in-law ordered a 2018 Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon, specifically as listed on the wine menu. The bottle brought to the table was a 2019. We noticed the discrepancy before it was opened and politely pointed it out. This should have taken 30 seconds to resolve: acknowledge the mistake, apologize, and offer an alternative. Instead, our server became defensive and tried to explain why the different vintage should not matter. Restaurant manager Matthew then became involved and continued focusing on why the 2019 was supposedly equivalent. But we were not asking for a discount or debating the quality of the wine. The restaurant listed a 2018 and presented a 2019. That was the entire issue. Matthew told us he had consulted the wine director, Vivi, so we asked to speak with her. That was when the situation became genuinely unacceptable. Rather than simply acknowledging an obvious and easily correctable mistake, Vivi was remarkably defensive, dismissive, and confrontational. She repeatedly told us that vintages "change all the time" and defended the restaurant's handling of the situation. When we pointed out that staff should verify the vintage being presented against what is actually listed on the wine menu, her response was essentially that she would "take that into consideration." The tone was astonishing. We have dined at excellent restaurants throughout the U.S. and internationally, and none of us could recall ever being spoken to by restaurant management that way over such a straightforward issue. Bringing the wrong vintage was a minor mistake. Refusing to own it and treating guests as though they were the problem for pointing it out was the serious failure. Before our entrees arrived, Matthew returned, apologized, and told us the wine would be comped. We appreciated the gesture, but the apology felt more like damage control than genuine ownership of what had happened. He then told us that he had checked the surname on our reservation, realized our family was Korean, and explained that he was Korean as well and that his mother would not have approved of how we had been treated. That was extraordinarily awkward. Why should learning that we were Korean have changed his assessment of whether we had been treated appropriately? Our ethnicity should have had absolutely nothing to do with recognizing that the situation had been mishandled. After that interaction, other staff members delivered our entrees and our server essentially disappeared. I had specifically asked before ordering the ahi whether the kitchen could provide a piece without the prominent tough white connective tissue and was assured the request would be communicated to the chef. The tuna arrived with exactly what I had asked to avoid, and our server never returned to check whether it was acceptable. My 15-year-old niece was also served an expensive steak with a knife so dull she struggled to cut it. Portions of my accompanying noodles were cooked until hard and crunchy. When our server finally returned near the end of the meal and I pointed out the noodles and asked that he show them to the chef, his response was simply, "That's how it's made." The restaurant ultimately comped the wine and took care of several desserts and drinks, which we appreciated. But removing items from a bill after an experience has gone badly is not the same as good service recovery. What began as a trivial wine-list discrepancy became a cascade of defensiveness, a remarkably unpleasant interaction with the wine director, an inappropriate and uncomfortable reference to our ethnicity from the restaurant manager, and then a noticeable breakdown in basic table service. That is especially disappointing because we genuinely love Andaz Maui and return regularly. We had spent a fantastic family vacation together in one of the resort's villas and deliberately chose Ka'ana Kitchen for a milestone birthday dinner on our final evening. Mistakes happen. Great restaurants own them. I sincerely hope Andaz leadership reviews what happened at our table, particularly the conduct of the restaurant manager and wine director. This was not simply an incorrect bottle of wine or a disappointing meal. It was a failure of hospitality and service recovery that warrants serious management attention. Eight members of our family left what should have been a wonderful birthday dinner talking about how badly Ka'ana Kitchen handled something that should have been effortless to correct. That should concern a resort of Andaz Maui's caliber.

We were looking around for a nice restaurant to kick off our weekend in Maui since we were celebrating my mom's 70th birthday. I think my biggest issues stem from the service as well as the value. We received everything in a timely manner so we had no complaints there but didn't experience any warmth in service itself. We had a reservation at 7:00 pm which isn't late by most restaurant standards but we realized that this establishment closed at 8:00 pm. Not sure if that contributed to our experience but it was a little disappointing because it felt like our server wasn't really interested in engaging with us. As someone who has worked in food and beverage for many years, I chalked it up to maybe our server was having a bad day. Still, it left unpleasant mark on our experience. Cocktails were okay. Nothing out of the ordinary. My husband mentioned his meatloaf was overly salty. The butterfish was a great portion size but was overshadowed by the tartness the lomi tomato. I couldn't taste much of the miso or sweetness. The rice texture was mushy which made it difficult to eat. A lot of menu items in concept sounded great but the execution didn't hit the mark. I think for the price, I think flavors could have been more balanced. At this point, I can't say I'd recommend this restaurant or consider returning in the future.
