They have a self ordering kiosk which is clever since it looks like a one man shop. Ordered the bao bun trio. Order came out quickly. Little Piggy (pork belly) was definitely my favorite. Island piggy (kalua pig) was also a very nice second with the pickled onions and pineapple was very nice. I'm still not sure I loved the duck, duck, goat (confit duck) but it wasn't because the ingredients weren't fresh. Probably more my preference of not having these together before. They also have some bowls and tots that also look tasty but didn't try this time around. Definitely a must try the piggies! read more

Located across from the Costco, this Bao food truck caught our attention. We chose the pork belly and the Philly. The pork belly we got was too dry so it was a disappointment. So the Philly was better because that wasn't dry but it was greasy. We paid about $20 for 2 baos and we felt it was way too pricey and the man taking our order was not friendly at all. I got the Uncle Philly and a classic pork belly bao (I forgot the name of it). The pork belly bao was lick your lips delicious! If you've never had a bao bun - do it now. If you have, still do it now. These were awesome. Like, it's hard to find a bao bun you don't like, but these solidly raised the bar. For the classic, we had to do the pork belly (little piggy) - soft purple ube bun, luscious pork, just the right amount of pickle in the daikon, slight heat of jalapeño, and a touch of cilantro. Bomb! For something totally different we also got the duck duck goat, and I can say it's rare to find confit duck this tender outside of France. I may have even preferred this one, though that feels like cheating on the pork belly. Next time I may try all the others. read more

Had some time to check out the food trucks before catching a flight out & I'll be back for this place as I'm a weekly flyer. Got the trio of bao buns, I picked the Little Piggy, the Duck Duck Goat & the Beef Bulgogi. The bao buns were soft and flavorful. The Little Piggy was my fav, the ube bun was fantastic with a nice piece of pork belly, carrots, cilantro & black sesame seeds. Great little meal! read more

During the recent tsunami warning on Maui, when nearly everything was shut down and the island was filled with uncertainty, Suns Out Buns Out did something truly remarkable -- they stayed open way past their normal closing time, working hard to feed people who had nowhere else to turn. It was well after 11pm when we showed up, exhausted and stressed, trying to find food while making sure my pregnant wife was safe and cared for. Not only were they still open, but they were doing it with kindness, calm, and aloha. Even as they were running low on ingredients, they still put out incredible food and did it with genuine smiles and an attitude of service that I'll never forget. My wife and I were beyond grateful. That meal was more than just food -- it was comfort in the middle of chaos, and a moment of normalcy when we really needed it. If you're ever near this spot, go support them. Really wanted to give the new location a fresh try as our experience at the Kihei Location was never great. Food still tastes frozen at this new location and service is even worse! The buns are not consistent either - the white ones taste freezer burnt and the purple "ube" ones used to look a nice purple but are now almost black! Located in an okay food truck lot. read more
