Grabbed a cinnamon roll and a regular coffee while waiting for our plane. The cinnamon roll was very good and not super sweet, and quite big. I didn't really love my coffee, it had a bit of an aftertaste but that is a personal preference and no reflection on Merit. The location is just past security so super convenient, and has a nice counter and storefront/shop feel in the middle of the airport. The staff is friendly and service was quick. read more

Needed a little jolt before my flight and everything coming out of Merit looked good. I also saw they had a Rosemary latte, which sounded intriguing and what I ended up having. My goodness though, you pay airport prices here. The latte had 2 sizes, the small was already priced at $7.95. I was asked if whole milk was ok and I asked for skim, which they didn't have, but did have 1%. Ok fine. But, 1% cost another $1 more. I have NEVER been upcharged for "regular" milk before anywhere. My coffee, with the upcharge and tax, was $10 something FOR A SMALL. Kind of ridiculous. Unless you really have a hankering, skip the coffee here and pay less elsewhere. Or wait for complimentary coffee on your flight. read more

First-time visit and unfortunately a very disappointing experience. We ordered a small matcha and a vanilla latte, and the total came out to $19?! which felt excessive, especially with additional charges like $0.82 for vanilla syrup and an upcharge for oat milk. For that price, I expected much better quality. The drinks themselves were underwhelming. The matcha was noticeably grainy and poorly mixed, and the vanilla latte had little to no flavor despite the added syrup. Service made things worse. When we asked questions about the menu, the staff came across as condescending rather than helpful. We were told there was no cold foam available, but then offered something called a "purple haze." When we asked what that was, we were met with attitude....only to later find out it's essentially a type of cold foam. That lack of clarity and tone was frustrating. I also asked about a military discount, which felt like a reasonable question given this is San Antonio. The response was dismissive and added to the overall negative impression. Between the pricing, poor drink quality, and unfriendly service, this was not a great first experience. I wouldn't return and would recommend others consider alternative coffee spots nearby. If you find yourself at the San Antonio airport and need a caffeine fix look no further than Merit Coffee. I got through TSA early for my flight and like fate Merit was one of the first things I saw. It felt like stumbling upon an oasis the promise land of good coffee in an airport setting. The wait was surprisingly short which is rare for airport coffee spots especially during busy travel hours. The staff were friendly and efficient making the whole experience smooth from start to finish. It's clear they care about the quality of what they serve because the coffee was top notch. Rich bold flavor without any bitterness and perfectly brewed. It's exactly what you hope for but don't always get when you're grabbing coffee on the go. Merit also had a clean organized setup which made it easy to order and get moving. I didn't feel rushed but I also didn't waste any time standing around. The customer service really stood out because everyone seemed to genuinely enjoy their job and wanted to make sure customers were happy. This was my first time trying Merit Coffee and it definitely won't be my last. It's nice to know that even at the airport you can find a quality cup of coffee without the usual hassle. Ten out of ten would recommend and I'll definitely be stopping by again the next time I'm flying through San Antonio. read more

A chai tea latte that tastes like hot water is almost certainly a demerit at Merit Coffee! After striking out on eateries at Terminal A of the San Antonio International Airport (SAT), my flight back home to SoCal was near, and I just wanted a drink to sip on while I wait to board my flight. Actually, I was considering getting a snack from a San Antonio Express News and bringing it back home, but I figured I could get similar snacks back home for much cheaper. However, I was curious how a Chai Tea Latte, a favorite drink of mine from Corner Bakery Cafe, would taste at an airport. I was also considering getting a pastry from Merit, but wasn't sure if the pastries were wrapped or are simply placed in a bag from a display case. I still went with the Chai Tea Latte, hoping it would taste as good as I remembered from Corner Bakery Cafe. The baristas were hard at work making all the drinks. The effort was there, but the result was not. After a few minutes of waiting, I tasted my Chai Tea Latte, and the flavor was really only minimal at best. I thought with every succeeding sip, the flavor would get stronger, but nope! It was almost like drinking a cup of hot water, which I definitely wouldn't want to pay $6 for. I was so disappointed with the Chai Tea Latte that even when I had plenty left when it was time to board, I chugged it all and tossed it in the trash right as my boarding group was called. I also noticed that while I was sitting at the gate, a passenger sitting directly across from me left, either to board or to sit at another chair, but he left his Merit Coffee cup on the floor. I doubt he liked his drink either, so I suppose that is another demerit for Merit Coffee. Prior to placing your order, you can get a snack or a drink from the Grab & Go section. After you pick up your order at the pickup counter, you can (try to) enjoy your drink/pastries at a bar-style table that spans the right wall. You can also do a little work there too while you wait for your flight. Overall, I do not recommend Merit Coffee. You'd be better off getting an energy drink from Boss Bagel instead. read more

They have changed up their traffic flow so, rather than forming a nice orderly line in the way of terminal walkers and post-TSA traffic, they want everyone to wait in a blob in the way of terminal walkers and post-TSA traffic. So a couple things: 1. It is more inconvenient for everyone, even more so for people trying to get to their gates. 2. It is harder to hear when your order is being called. Also, my name wasn't called with my food order and when I inquired about an item they couldn't say who it was for and "sometimes they don't call names food orders". Call me crazy, but maybe you should. 3. There is room for a couple people to wait inside and not congest traffic further with the outside blob, but I was asked to specifically move outside. It didn't make a ton of sense. 4. They also removed the minimal wall seating inside and replaced it with a merch stand. All in all, this was an unpleasant experience and downgrade overall. Food and drink were good though. read more

Quick stop at the Merit Coffee joint at San Antonio International (SAT). Even as busy as it was, I got through the line quickly, placed my order and got my latte in a blink. The coffee was good. The jalapeno sausage klobasniky (not kolache) was delicious. The early morning breakfast was just what the tummy ordered on my most recent trip back east. You can't miss this place as it is the first place you run into as you exit the security gate in Terminal 1. It was my first time at a Merit, and this place didn't disappoint. The staff was friendly and efficient. You have other choices for coffee in Terminal 1, Merit is probably your best bet for the java when you're traveling. read more

Merit Coffee at the airport is the real MVP! I personally like to take the first flight of the day to anywhere I go, which means I need to wake up at 3am or 4 am. At that time, I refuse to prepare coffee at home so I plan on getting some at the airport. I've visited this location a couple times throughout 2022 and my experience has always been amazing! They have a pretty basic menu at the front, but please know they can prepare other items if you ask for. On my last visit I had the latte with almond milk and lavender syrup, and it was delicious! I also ordered Jalapeño Kolache which are from Bakery Lorraine, and wow! The kolache was packed with flavor and the sausage was so delicious. It was so good I even considered getting a second one for the flight. Thank you to the staff for waking up early every day and moving the line as fast as possible! Y'all are the true MVPs. read more

Merit is from San Antonio and they roast their own beans. This is the place I go before I board my plane, when have some extra time, due to the short TSA lines. Their coffee is great, and they also have some wraps or sandwiches to take with you for on the plane, or the train ride I have to take after I land at JFK. Then I get my large oat milk latte (basically a drip coffee with oat milk), and it was almost $9 (before tip), for approximately 10 ozs.! I stopped here cause I was sure it was cheaper than Starbucks venti(large, probably 16 ozs.) drip. Never again. Smart business though, or shall I say strategic, as the space is immediately inside security check-in where all the restaurants are, so super convenient and extremely efficient service design. Was traveling and went to this coffee shop in the airport. Ordered a coffee and a latte and a croissant received the latte which was horrible. All it was was vanilla sugar. The croissant was so hard and not enjoyable at all went back an ass if they could dump out some of the latte and just put in regular coffee that was even worse than the latte.
