I was really disappointed with the tempura calamari with green beans. I had better battered calamari and outstanding aioli before. I don't mind spending $80 for lunch if the food is worth the money. My husband is a steak person and he was upset too. Also, when I asked for lemon for my water there was visible mold and the server said, "I'll give you a fresh one." They claimed their ingredients are fresh, with molds. Never again I will eat at this restaurant. The Callaway wine $60 was worth it. read more

We had a delightful meal here. It is a beautiful setting as you almost feel as though you are sitting in a greenhouse with misters going full blast. There are herbs and flowers everywhere. The views of the vineyards are outstanding from almost any seat. I had the pasta with meatballs and it was a gigantic portion of which everyone had a bite. My husband had the grilled angus hanger steak, and again it was delicious and a very large portion. It was just a wonderful meal. We had a couple bottles of the Cabernet at very reasonable bottle prices. It was an evening to remember. read more

First, this restaurant setting is absolutely gorgeous. We made reservations for my birthday dinner. I had read previous reviews about bad experiences but wanted to give it a try regardless. It was a lovely experience made 10000% better by our waitress Jamie, who was so attentive and accommodating. I'll be totally honest, I really wanted a table right by the patio but was seated a few tables back by the host who said no one was ready to leave those tables. Within 5 minutes we could see a couple getting visibly ready to leave. Jamie had come up to get our drink order and I politely asked if there was a possibility of switching to their table when they left. She said she'd absolutely take care of it and she did. It pays to be nice and respectful to your waitstaff. We ordered the cheese board for an app and the angus steak. The cheese came out right away and we enjoyed that with the Sauv Blanc and Pinot Grigio (delish) By then the sun was setting and was absolutely beautiful. We took some pictures up by the front. When we got back to the table Jamie told us the kitchen was slammed and said it would be awhile. We ordered another round of wine (the Zinfandel) and relaxed and enjoyed the sun setting. The table next to us (with a slightly better view) got up to leave and Jamie came right back over and asked if we'd like that table to watch the rest of the sunset. We said yes and scooted over and got to watch the most lovely sunset while drinking wine, it was the best birthday celebration. Our food did take a little while but look y'all- it's still a pandemic and all of these places are short staffed and just doing the best they can and busting their ass. We got the Sangiovese (my fave of the night) for our steak which was also delicious. Again, our server Jamie busted her ass and did a terrific job and made my birthday memorable and amazing. Meritage was the perfect place to have lunch! We ordered the salmon stuffed mushrooms. I ate the goat cheese/ arugula/ pear salad and my husband had the spaghetti and veal meatballs. Everything we ordered was delicious. I loved that the restaurant looked over the vineyard. It was a beautiful view! My only complaint is that halfway through our meal they turned on fans with misters. I did not enjoy being sprayed with water during my meal. I just felt like it wasn't very sanitary. read more

Beautiful location. Awesome view. Nice options for lunch. We arrived around 12:30 and the restaurant was not busy at all. By the time we left it is was pretty full, so reservations may be in order. This was my first time at a winery and it was really stunning, but I am no expert and am sure there are much nicer wineries. Funny thing about this whole experience, no one in my family had any wine today. So, I also cannot comment on the wine - quality, types, etc. Lunch: Their fresh baked bread with the hummus and pesto spreads were out of this world. And extremely fresh. I just had a Caesar salad, which was fine - nothing extraordinary. However, my son's grilled cheese from the "kids menu" was damn amazing. I pretty much ate 3/4 of his lunch. His came with a huge grilled cheese, their hand cut potatoes, and a cute little dish of fresh berries. My father and cousin had the "adult" grilled cheese with the fennel and zucchini and both absolutely loved it (theirs came with the potatoes and side salad). My mother had the fried crab sandwich which was delicious, although there was no way to eat the crab on the sandwich (it was just too big). My aunt had the ceviche, which she ended up eating (I think she meant to order something else). Cousin had the lamb chops from the appetizer menu, which were cooked perfectly. The server, Ian, was very nice, attentive, and patient with all of us. He even asked my aunt if she wanted to replace the ceviche and order something else, as it was absolutely no problem. The setting is outstanding over looking the vineyard. The food is also pretty good. We tried the veal, beef and ricotta meatballs over rigatoni and the"Pescatore" spaghettini with shrimp, clams, calamari and tuna sauteed with olive oil, garlic, saffron and roasted tomato. The meatballs were tasty and tender. The spaghettini was loaded with seafood. If there is one major plus, it is the portions. You will have plenty to eat to soak up that wine. read more

Perched on top of the hill with surrounding vineyards, sheep grazing and clouds dancing lies the Meritage Restaurant. Everyone from the General Manager to the chef to Jamie our server care that you like the wine, like the food and like your experience. The food is unique and beautifully plated. Although we didn't stop at the winery side, the restaurant is worthy of going to in and of itself. It's absolutely beautiful here. Our table shared pork belly tacos, prosciutto & arugula flatbread, penne with meatballs, goat cheese salad and the ham, mushroom & fried egg sandwich. The pork belly tacos were loaded with flavor and totally delicious. Penne with meatballs was amazing. The sauce and meatballs were so fresh and really good. I would get those when I go back. The ham sandwich was good, but dry, so I asked for a aioli and that really helped. The combination of ham, mushroom, egg and cheese seemed weird, but once I tried it, it really worked. Especially with the peppercorn aioli. I wasn't a fan of the iced tea because it has a weird flavor to it that I wasn't expecting, but besides that and the price ($18 for ham sandwich), I have no real complaints about this place. Wonderful restaurant to enjoy beautiful views tasty wine and great food! My boyfriend and I came this past Saturday and they were completely booked with reservations but they were very sweet and still let us sit and have a few glasses of wine, so kuddos as I'd had a long day at work and was really looking forward to a night out. But I will always make a reservation from now on! John was our waiter and he was wonderful, quick, attentive and after I told him my tastes recommended the perfect Chardonnay for me. I actually ended up making a reservation and brought my dad here the next night for Father's Day and again had John as our server. They seemed to be understaffed as it was a bit slow but how can you mind that when they are clearly running around and working hard and you have a fabulous view to enjoy. We both had the chilled cucumber soup it was nice, but per my Dad please bring back the gazpacho! He had the pork belly and yuca tacos and I had the foie gras with fresh berries, gastrique, and toast points, we stuck to appetizers for a "light" meal. His tacos were a huge portion and very tasty, at least so I was told, ha! Mine was pure heaven, if you like seared foie gras they do it to perfection, so I'll be back to make sure I get to indulge while it's on the menu! I don't know that I am a foodie but I do know that I love food. I have learned the best way to learn about a resturant is to trust your Server and Chef. Tonight that proved to be the best choice our waitress Jamie was wonderful she seem a little off put, but went with it anyway, when I said I'd like to trust Chef and whatever he wants to make I'll eat (some Chefs love and some Chefs hate this) you also have to be an adventurous eater. I will say I am an adventurous eater although picky because I've eaten some amazing food. Chef took what I feel was a bold choice and served me scallops and my husband(who followed my lead and did chefs choice) had a (l think) skirt steak I apologize if I'm wrong I was terribly excited about the scallops. Jamie was wonderfully attentive and helpful when ever we had any questions. Before I go off on a food tangent I do want to say I am in the industry and thus have high expectations. I was blown away by the attention to detail and service we recieved. Thank you to our Chef, Server and Management for making our experience a first class adventure. For appetizers we ordered the quail knots and the steak fries. Quail knots- Simply fantastic they are done in a crunchy orange sauce. Being a fan of quail we were impressed I was a little off put by the orange sauce but was pleasantly surprised once I tasted it. Steak Fries- Wonderful, and the dipping sauce was again house made . Scallops- I always fear ordering scallops because unfortunately they can be over cooked or under cooked. I was not disappointed! The scallops were perfectly cooked. Not to mention they were layed atop asperagus another item I am finicky about I don't like my asperagus over cooked I like it a little crunchy and simply prepared. I highly commend the Chef on this plate everything was perfectly cooked and not over sauced or seasoned, a very natural and well paired plate. Steak- Again wow, perfectly cook and not over seasoned served with side of a to die for gorgonzola sauce. The pasta(spaghetti?)- My girlfriend ordered this it was her choice and it was a good one. The pasta is handmade along with the the sauce and the way the meat is prepared. It had chunks of garlic like whole cloves! To us this is amazing we love garlic everything about garlic the more the better. After our meal the Chef was kind enough to stop by our table and chat for a few we at the point sung our praise to him for being so creative and allowing us to let him select our meals. He at this point talked us into dessert I mean he really had to twist our arms... okay not really. We also got to chatting about other specials that he is adventurous enough to serve. Now I know this isn't for everyone but for those of us who know and love Foie Gras I highly recommend trying it here, we were lucky enough to be able to try this tonight and we're BLOWN away it was a mouthgasim yes I said mouthgasim. I could use word like delectable, ambrosia or astonishing but mouthgasim seems perfect. To put it simply it was it was like melted butter but better. My girlfriend who is not an adventurous eater but is sometimes willing to try had it for the first time ever and absolutely loved it. We also learned that he does bone marrow we weren't able to try this tonight but will be back to try it. Now on to the dessert. It's sometimes hard to describe perfection but I think he found it in this. I couldn't tell you exactly what was in it but what I think is it was a dense cake with white chocolate and berries that I believe had a salted carmel and mixed berries sauce. Fantastic and again an enexpected pleasure. Tonight was a devine surprise of unexpected oral pleasures. I want to say Thank You to the whole staff you were all absolutely wonderful and took impeccable care of us this evening. We will be returning and often recommending others to come and enjoy your unique understanding of food. Your idea of farm to table is perfectly placed in your almost green house like setting. Sorry for the low stars but it's well deserved. The people are great, the food is well below expectations and overpriced for what you get. A $20 chicken salad was actually a $3 Wendy's salad with some boiled chicken on it. Don the server was very accommodating when I was disappointed with my order and quickly helped me out with a replacement dish. The chef's special pizza was completely different than described and was the most ridiculous sauce made of 100% habaneros with some red coloring to fool you into believing it was tomato sauce. That was exasperated by 90 degree temperatures outside and no AC with 120 degree temperatures inside! Will never go here again. Made reservations for 4pm. They confirmed, got my phone number and everything and we live almost an hour away and when we got their there was a white older man, bald who said, "We're closed sorry." I told them we had reservations at 4pm, and he said, "Yea, sorry we're closed." I asked why didn't anyone call me, they had my number? He didn't say anything, and then the waitress was carrying something and told me, "Can you please move?" Wow. Horrible service. They didn't even say sorry or even care. We ended up going across the street to Thornton Winery and they were WAY better and the food was delicious and they had amazing service. read more

I am giving two stars as opposed to no stars only because George, our server was nice. Upon entering the host asked my name, no hello, how are you, nothing. Very uninviting. We were early diners and there were lots of empty tables yet we were seated directly in the sun. That paired with no AC on a 108 degree day was pretty much unbearable. Next we ordered a bottle of wine. George poured our glasses, upon lifting the glasses the sun allowed us to see how filthy the glasses were. Soap residue and finger prints. I got our servers attention and showed him how bad the glasses were and he agreed, they were filthy. George said he would get new glasses. When he came back with the replacements, he proceeded to dump the wine from the filthy glasses into the replacement glasses. Disgusting and extremely unprofessional. Next came my dinner order which was the Halibut. It was cremated. I had to use a knife to cut thru it. Hard as a rock I left it as it was uneatable. Very dissatisfying and disappointed. Meh. Callaway is one of the big, Disneyland-like wineries in Temecula and it feels that way. It's a big business, lots of people. The restaurant lacks charm. You're basically sitting inside a big banquet room, like you're at a work conference or something. The food was fine. I got a salad and added salmon. The focaccia was delicious--warm and fresh. I wouldn't come back to the restaurant, but it does the trick if you're hungry after drinking too much wine. read more

This is a wonderful restaurant with big portions of delicious food! I went here with three friends who have distinct tastes in food and wine and we were all happy with the food and service. Jamie was very knowledgeable about the wines and how to pair them with our food choices. I had the rigatoni with meatballs and it paired perfectly with the Syrrah that Jamie suggested for me. Been here several times and have enjoyed the food before but not so much on our last visit. The menu descriptions sound better than the actual dishes. We tried the smoked suckling pig tacos, quail knots and hummus. The pork had a decent smoky spicy flavor but the meat was very dry. Liked the blue corn tortillas but overall the tacos were just OK and overpriced at $18 for four small tacos. The quail knots were not what we were expecting. They were also overcooked and difficult to eat because of the dry meat and small bones. Not worth the price at $18. Lastly the roasted red pepper hummus was served in a extremely small ramekin and curiously also came with the same sized pesto. The house-baked bread accompanying these was good but very heavy. I did not think this was worth $5.00. I would rather have a larger portion of hummus and small amount of flatbread or crackers for dipping. The wines are always good here but the food here is not up to par for the prices and the gourmet descriptions. Dont' think the food lives up to the Callaway wines standards. We may come back but I'm going to ask more questions next time about what I can expect for the inflated "we're gourmet because we're next door to the winery with a view" prices. read more

My husband surprised me with a trip to Temecula this past Sunday. Wow, wow, wow! Everything about the vineyard and restaurant is extraordinary. Very romantic vibe and gorgeous views of the hills and vineyards. The food was quite delish and the service was A1! There is a greenhouse and garden on site which explains the freshness and food quality. My husband and I loved their Port as well as their Bella Blanc. We planned to eat at Thornton (side bar, they have excellent brut), but there was a concert so it was closed to non-attendees. Right across the street is Callaway, where I'd done a tasting before and really enjoyed it. I didn't realize they had a restaurant when we did our big Grapeline tour day. We were immediately greeted by the most friendly man, I'm assuming the GM of the restaurant, and given a table right away. Our server was so sweet and funny, and all the other staff would still jump in to help even though we weren't their table (like filling water cups, clearing plates, etc.). The food was all great, especially the ceviche appetizer. They are all farm to table so fresh grown vegetables and herbs, with other items like meat locally sourced and fresh seafood delivered daily. You could definitely taste freshness. We had such a nice time and want to go back next time! The restaurant also has great views down the hill depending on your table. read more
