I was in the market for a specific type of loan and after searching around I found this credit union who had a product that fit what I was looking for. The representative Adrian was very friendly and once again was able to find a product that met my needs. After our transaction the representative asked me to "help him out" by purchasing additional products for the loan. Since I was so satisfied by the product and service I had received I felt it only fair to do so. The products I purchased was called life plus and covered disability and involuntary unemployment. Now when you're offered these type of products they should disclose all the stipulations of said product which did not occur. I think he was happy to have sold the product that we just got to signing. I got this loan on 2/7 and unfortunately on 3/28 I was let go from my job. Remembering that I had opted for this product I quickly contacted Meriwest and let them know about my situation. They seemed to have very little knowledge about the product and how to go about assisting me. Eventually they gave me a number to call to file a claim. I called and filed a claim and about two weeks later I received an email stating that I was not eligible for 30 days and that I would need to wait to file the claim. This didn't make sense as I got the loan on 2/7 and I filed the claim 4/1. Anyway I waited a few weeks and tried to file again they said that now I had to wait for 90 days. I asked what should I do, should I continue making payments until that time. They advised I should which I did to the best of my ability. After 90 days I checked again on the status and at this time they tell me that per the contract I am not eligible at all since the event "losing my job" occurred within 90 days. At this point I'm at a loss for words. This is a very important detail of the product and should've been highlighted and disclosed. I mean who chooses when they lose their job. I tried contacting several people to inquire about this and I just kept getting walls. I then spoke with someone and let them know that I felt this product was a scam and that I should at least get refunded for what I've paid for it. The payments I made on the product could've easily paid at least a month worth of payments on the loan for me. They told me they were unable to do so. So this is just a fair warning to people to read all the literature for any loan products they try and sell you. Also those products are provided through a 3rd party and they have hardly any knowledge of them. It's absolutely ridiculous, give your people proper training and don't sell products you're not familiar with. Smh Also if there are any law professionals let me know if i potentially have a case. read more

And the general manager sits in her fat ass office doing nothing to help. The service was night and day when I visited the other local branches. Christina Thach is the absolute best. I'm heavily invested in stocks and bonds but also have savings for myself and my children. Meriwest was where it all started. I met Christina and she helped me start custodial accounts for my three children. When my oldest child turned 12, she helped me with a flex saving account that he could use with a debit card but I had total access too. They pay a generous interest rate on your savings account. All that is great but what tops the cake is they have GREAT customer service. I've had very few issues but whenever I did it was addressed quickly and I felt satisfied with the outcome. The staff here saw me and immediately judged me by my appearance. I told them I would be depositing a check for more than 100k and asked how long it would take to clear and how much of it would be made available. They laughed a little and said "maybe $500" and then went in to explain how they would have to verify the check and hold it for 7 days. They didn't check my account or tell me how I can possibly speed the process up or get more funds available right away. I went outside l, spoke to my lawyer about how to make verify the check etc and went back in. They told me "it seems like you really need the money" as though I was broke or poor with an attitude because I was pressing for more information. They finally looked at my account and said maybe $500 would be available right away. The attitude and the lack of service at this branch was disrespectful. I feel like they thought I was trying to scam them because they thought I couldn't possibly have that much money. If all the branches are like this one I would recommend finding a better credit union. read more

My husband has been a member for over 20 years. After we married 8 years ago, I joined him in banking with Meriwest. I read a review that said the location is appalling. I don't get it. The bank is in newer shopping center, plenty of parking, and Sprouts amongst other great stores. The shopping center is "clean" and this Meriwest Branch is as clean as a pin as they say. Every time no matter what time of the year. We lived in Santa Clara for 8 1/2 years and just moved to Mountain View 9 months ago. We started with this branch ever since it opened in this location. While living in Santa Clara we went into this branch every time we banked. We did not use the ATM machine choosing the excellent service from the staff "every time" we were there. Why wouldn't we when one is greeted smiles and being welcomed as if you are the most important customer. Even if we had to wait to be helped, the staff greeted us to let us know we were "seen" and we would be helped as soon as they could. Never felt rushed. When my transaction was complete I was "Always" asked if there was anything else they could do for me. There is a Meriwest branch about 10 blocks from where we live in Mountain View (nothing wrong with this branch) - but we drive to this Santa Clara branch for our banking. It is worth every mile to Santa Clara, at least 4 + times a month, we drive to be helped by the excellent staff. Not only do we have a checking and savings account, we also have a car loan and personal loan with Meriwest. My most recent experience at this location was absolutely appalling. I have been a member for years and I always rave about the customer service, always refer people when they ask about credit unions. As I read below, I am not the only one who has been left with a bad taste after dealing with a certain older Hispanic teller at this location. I came in to do a few things that day and he greeted me by asking "What could he do for me?" Well I proceeded to tell him the few things I needed done and he replied "Wow, that was a long story. I almost fell asleep during all that." I was floored. YOU ARE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. I came in with a problem and a couple transactions. I wasn't reading "Pride and Prejudice" to him. I was LIVID. I quickly just reverted to short yes and no answers because I could feel my blood boiling. When we got to the matter of why my accounts weren't linked, he asked to hand write a statement saying I wanted them linked. What?? Isn't there some form or CAN'T YOU JUST DO IT IN THE COMPUTER? Well apparently he could not and seemed off put that I was questioning his methods. I just said nevermind and I would just call someone over the phone and he was flippant and said "if that's what you want to do..." Then I had to ASK for my card back and simply told him "Look, I don't appreciate how you spoke to me. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had at any branch" No, I didn't want to speak to a manager because honestly, I was so offended, I just needed to leave. Now here's why I decided to leave a review: I called and got a great guy named Alex to help me. Turns out, my accounts were ALREADY linked and there was just an error. So not only was he RUDE, but he was also incompetent and that is just unacceptable. I left 1 extra star because of service I have received before. Once upon a time this was the best credit union. They make changes that disrupt the lives of members, give snarky replies to emails, and are no longer user friendly. I am currently at 1 hour on hold to talk to a "member service representative" who will most likely NOT be able to answer a question or 2 about the "new and improved website". Forget about doing business with them from Europe since they don't answer the phone and only have one way to verify your account. Paying bills automatically? After Meriwest closed their Downtown San Jose branch I started using this location because of its proximity to my place of employment. I have dealt primarily with Jessica Gomez and she is an absolute delight. She is friendly and efficient and provides excellent customer service. She helped me rectify the situation within a few short days and kept me informed about what was happening the entire time. I've been having Meriwest for years and always praise their service representatives at every location. This location had two people who were great. Lately there's an older Hispanic man working the front who is very rude. The two times I been there for assistance with a joint account he's been sarcastic and he even scoffed at me when I was explaining my situation. I'm not a rude person in nature and if anything I was in need of guidance and answers and this dude is on a power trip to make you feel stupid. I don't know if it was because I am young and Latina but he comes off as rude and callous and he makes condescending comments like "if you're so worried why did you wait a week?" Or "so what do you want me to do?" I wish I could get his name. He is an older Hispanic man and he shouldn't be working with people if he has no customer service skills and feels he's in a position to put-down people who are customers. read more

I've been coming to this location in Santa Clara ever since they first opened. The fees are very reasonable given that it's a credit union vs a national bank, and the staff is extraordinarily professional and customer focused.
