I have a 50 year relationship with this bank. It was a typical bank relationship and they were always friendly. We found them having some of the best rates for mortgage and financed several cars. I found their rates to be better than regular banks and don't know if this has to do with being a credit union. We started with them at the old Lockheed site in Mountain View. I think at the time it was the only branch. They now have several sites spread throughout the South Bay. I recently visited their De Anza branch and kind of had a love-hate relationship because I thought they lacked friendliness & professionalism. On my last visit, I noticed several new people. What a difference good staff makes. Parsa in particular greeted me as I walked in the door, which I believe is the first time ever that has happened at this site. He further asked my reason for visiting and immediately helped me before I queued up at the teller window. I greatly appreciated this since he saved me a step in my banking business during that visit. As far as I'm concerned, he should be the bank mascot. He always greets me with a smile. I have been banking with Star One Credit Union in the past several years and I am very happy with them. My mother and my son also opened accounts at Star One upon my recommendation. I feel Star One is way better than any of the other major banks we have banked with in the past - Wells Fargo, Chase, and Bank of America. Star One's savings rate is much higher than the major banks, and I don't need to worry about being hit with high fees. Plus they offer very friendly service at the branch with a personable touch that has been lost at the big banks. Recently the tellers at the De Anza branch helped my mother with an IRA account transfer to a brokerage firm. The contra firm demanded various documents (even though the information was included in the statement submitted), and was not being responsive to inquiries. Urmila and Charlton worked with Lina in the IRA department to fulfill the contra firm's requests and got the account trasferred successfully. My kudos to them for going above and beyond to help a customer. read more

These people are always helpful and courteous. They even have a coin machine that automatically deposits the credit into your account .

Over the past 7 years of using Starone, I've NEVER had any issues. Credit unions really are the way to go, but Starone in particular is a step above the rest. Any time I've needed to contact customer service or needed anything outside of ATM/Teller services, the wait has always been non-existent or minimal. I've never had ANY issues to date, and that's saying something for a financial institution. Would highly recommend! read more

I've banked at Star One Credit Union since they were Lockheed Credit Union and operated out of little trailers in the Lockheed parking lot - 30 years ago? They have only gotten better over the years. I also bank with Capital One and Provident Credit Union. Star One has the best online check cashing. I love it when people send me checks and I can scan and upload them to Star One. Their process works. Capital One is kludgy and Provident is pathetic. Star One has the best banking website ever! It's fast and easy to use. I like the tellers at Star One - and the phone help. It's all excellent. They all must be paid well because they are all genuinely happy to serve me and answer questions on banking. I generally hate going into banks - but I like Star One. It's like coming home. Maybe it's because of the Lockheed connection - but I think it's because of the people who work there. read more

I visited this branch around noon yesterday (7/10/2020) to get some questions answered about my Star One account before I move to another state. When I first walked up to the door a friendly employee was manning the front door and informed me that entering the building was by appointment only, and that I'd have to book an appointment online. He also said if I had a problem then to let him know so that he could take care of me. I went back to my car and accessed the website on my phone to book an appointment but the next availability wouldn't be for 4 more hours, which didn't work for me and so I returned to the friendly deputy doorman. He listened to me explain that I was unavailable for the later appointments, and I said that my questions were brief and regarded the fact that I am leaving the area in a week and time was not on my side. The doorman connected me to John B from Member Services who said he could help me out and took me to his desk. I had a list of questions to ask about my account and had to make some changes, and John was a huge help and took care of all my questions showing his patience and professionalism. He even went the extra mile and looked up local credit unions near my new out-of state address before I had a chance to ask about accessing my account via partner credit unions. It was the most incredible bank visit I've ever had and I've become a Star One customer for life. I wish I caught the name of the deputy at the door, all I can say is he's lived on the Gulf Coast. Also when I was leaving he helped me avoid close contact with someone who didn't have their mask on. 10/10 to both John B and the friendly employee at the door. read more

My bank of choice. I found them 5 years ago and haven't looked back. Credit unions are great because they care more about the customer than the bottom line like at major banks. Their ATM card fee free at all 7-Elevens which is convenient. When I lost my debit card for the second time in a month (I need to stop putting it in my pocket and instead put it back in my wallet), I asked the teller if there was a charge for it. He looked back at me questioningly and then told me there's never a charge for getting new debit cards. Their savings interest rates are typically higher than the big banks and their car loan rates were lower than elsewhere when I needed one. Great rates, convenient ATMs (but not many physical bank locations), and good customer service. read more

I LOVE YOU STAR ONE CREDIT UNION!!! I've had a Star One Credit Union savings account ever since birth. Yep. I have literally been with Star One my whole life. I'm very thankful my parents have chosen Star One (thusly me too) since I refuse to have an account with a non-credit union bank. All of the bankers know me by name and we like to chat it up whenever I'm there. They ask me how school is going and how hot the weather is. The bankers are very attentive, courteous, professional, and knowledgable and everything banking. I haven't got any loans or other credit accounts at Star One, but I keep my savings and checking accounts there. The ~ 1% APY on savings isn't much, but it's far better than at the big banks. Star One's standards are sound, so they didn't struggle the way some of their larger competitors did during the financial crisis. The service has always been top-notch. Two complaints: 1. You have to go to/call the branch to do some things (i.e., change your address, or start/stop bill pay) that should be possible to do online. 2. Sometimes you have to watch their fees. If you have Bill Pay, but don't use it for a month, they slap you with a $4 fee. Bill Pay is normally $4, but they'll waive it if you have both direct deposit and e-statements. In addition, they charge a fee if you keep less than $300 in your checking, unless your total account/loan balances are over $5,000. In their defense, though, the free access to CO-OP ATMs (including 7-11) is nice. read more

I recently completed the purchase of my first home through a loan with Star One. My application started on May 6th and I was given the keys to my new home on June 30th. My loan officer was Maricela--she was professional, knowledgeable, responsive, and answered every question I asked. This place is awesome! Star One has completely changed my mind about what an experience at the bank should be. I came to Star One about a year and a half ago from a reference from my girlfriend who has been at Star One for almost 10 years. I think what sets Star One apart from other banks goes along the lines of what the branch manager (Noel) told me on the day I joined. He said, "At Star One, you're not just another customer, you're now a member." At the time it sounded all too cliche but I am happy to report, this is so true! Within weeks, everyone at this branch knew my name and I enjoyed my experiences there. Never before had I ever actually "enjoyed" going to the bank. Now, I don't mind it at all. Since then, I have been to the other Star One branches (there's now 5 in the Bay Area) and I have to say by far the Cupertino branch on De Anza is the best. I used their ATM today to get a $20 bill. Then waited inside for about 10 minutes to get change only to be told that if I am not a member they cannot make change. What? Seriously? I live in the community and refinance frequently. I would never consider using Star One given their ridiculous lack of customer service. I've never been told by ANY bank that they cannot make change. I was very happy with my service, and the people are generally very nice but, I went in to consolidate my personal loans - I wanted to sync them so I only make 1 payment per month instead of two. Guess what? They said I had to apply like it was a new loan - so I did and was denied!! I wasn't asking for any more money - just consolidation & they wouldn't approve it!! Star One is the BEST! I can't tell you how much I love this company. I've always received excellent customer service - in person, online and by phone. I left BofA, after 25+ years because the only way I could even apply for a car loan was online. Personally when I'm investing in a car, borrowing a substantial sum, or apply for a mortgage, I want to talk to SOMEONE in person, shake their hand, and feel comfortable... Star One doesn't slap you with fees like the big banks and it's awesome to receive dividends instead of paying monthly fees. I feel like they have bended over backwards for me sooo many times. I have been banking with Star One since I was a teenager. Their services are wonderful, and their employees are very helpful. Recently I encountered fraudulent charges from a company which I had a loan for furniture. Kevin helped me investigate that company, and helped me block them from further withdrawals, as he saw this company has done this with other people. They were billing me outside of a signed contract, which Kevin said was illegal. I have been fighting with this company since July in regards to my account being paid off. Even after their admission of their mistake, they sent me to collections, and ruin my credit score. As of Tuesday this week, and after help from Star One, I was able to finally get everything with the said company resolved. They are in the process of fixing everything, and are getting my credit back to normal. Had it not been for the diligence of Kevin, I would have not known this company's history of fraud. I appreciate all the help, and would recommend this bank to anyone. They also have the lowest rates, great offers for loans, and provide free tax services for clients. read more

Hands down one of the best customer experiences I've had compares to other loan officers I've encountered who are pushy and just looking for commission. He seemed genuine and personable. Adrian made me feel like he truly wanted to help me out and didn't make me feel rushed or pushy - he went above and beyond in his service. Also, on top of the great service, he was able to give me an offer lower than other other quotes. been a customer for more than 10 years now! and i love love love this bank! the customer service is great. their branches are only in the south bay and i live in SF, which makes it basically impossible for me to ever go into a branch since its only open on weekdays. but thanks to technology, i can still get everything done. i can withdraw money at a 7-11. i deposit my checks through mobile banking. i've done wires and other requests through the phone and faxes. i also always call if i plan to travel internationally (which is often) so my cards aren't frozen. i LOVE that if i ever call i can talk to a representative IMMEDIATELY. i dont have to go through 10 prompts in order to get help. read more

They have great rates with Mortgage, and their fees are also very low compared to other bank. Refi with any bank takes around 3-4 weeks to close (based on my experience with Fremont, Wells). They have great cust experience atleast so far. Once ur mortgage is with Star one , they have great rate Adjust feature...Overall quiet happy with this bank. Their online accnt is pretty basic though , however good engh to get ur stuff done. I dont have any complaints. I got my home appraised for better value when i used Star plus their closing cost and rates were better , hence i decided to go with them. read more

I absolutely love Star One! I was with Washington Mutual Bank before Chase took them over. I gave Star One a try with a basic checking and savings account and loved them. I have since moved all my accounts to Star One. They are so easy to work with and I do almost all of my banking online, including loans, which is real convenient. I have been with this bank for over 10 Yeas, everything seems fine until lately. Last two visits I were treated badly. First was last month, I signed up there in the branch to talk to the people work on the desks, I waited for 45mins, a guy just walked into the manager's office and talked to him for sometime, a woman walked in sat next to me, and the manager came out talked to her but totally ignored me until I said I already waited so long, he then asked for my name walked back to his office and never come out again to help me. second time was a few days ago I went to the teller to get a cashier's check, she repeated the amount several times loudly, made me worry that someone bad would hear that. When I asked her what happened if the check was lost, she said there would be nothing they can do to stop the payment. and worst yet, a big guy next to her started questioning me rudely, asked why would the check be lost, what would I do with the check to have it lost, on and on, that turn into a confrontation. I have never had that kind of treatment from any other financial institutions before, how can someone treats a customer such way, so rude and so discriminatory? read more

I've had the displeasure of having to deal with the bank tellers and most of the time it's been ok but there have been several incidences that left me thinking I never want to deal with the people in the bank ever again. A while ago, I deposited a bunch of checks amounted in the thousands in the night deposit box that somehow was lost, until I inquired about them and then they were traced back and correctly deposited, Talk about incompetence, they wouldn't have done anything had I not demand for my checks to be accounted for. So I subsequently had to go to the bank teller to deposit my checks for fear of my checks being lost. This last time this bank teller told me to take off my helmet and glasses for ID. I had already took them off and put them back on thinking they already seen me and know me. On top of that, the lady next to me had on big sun visors and glasses and they didn't tell her to take those off. Do I feel harrassed and persecuted! I pointed out these facts to them and the assistant manager who just brushed it off. I never want to deal with these bank people ever again. Stay clear if this bank or at least this branch. They play double standard and harass you if they could, maybe it give them a power trip. I just wish they are nicer people to deal with, but I would avoid them at all cost if I could. read more
